I guess I should be more tactful this time when I post. This is coming from sPvP point of view, but I’m just going to come out and say it. You guys dropped the ball. I understand that the PvP department isn’t as large and has less resources then PvE or WvW.
However that doesn’t give you the excuse to just keep stringing us along. It’s been months since PvP had any type of meaningful update. Exploiters are running Skyhammer non-stop, leaderboards are still broken, and yet the only thing you seem to care about are esports. Yes, esports are great and all. Ergo, you need a player base to watch it. Which you don’t have because of the lack of communication with the PvP community and all the false promises. Most pvpers left this game long ago, but there are a few that stick around, such as me, hoping you guys pull it together.

Words, words, words. We’ve heard a lot of them, but only a change in action will matter. Many of the words you’ve said before are in complete disagreement with what you do.
So no, many players don’t feel like this is a “journey” they want to be a part of.
It also sounds like it was written by marketing. “Be sure to drop ground breaking in there at least twice!”
@Chris Whiteside
As an active player and forum reader/contributor since Beta, I have definitely noticed the many improvements to the game that originated from the community and ended up being implemented. I respect Anet for seriously taking player suggestions and shaping their game in the direction that the community wants to see it go.
However, I think the turn-around time from when suggestions are made to when they are released (if they are released) is something that needs serious improvement. A couple examples that come to mind are Edit Guild Message of the Day and Targeting without a party. Both are great quality of life improvements and I’m very glad that they are now part of the game, but I’m disappointed that it took over a year for them to be implemented even though they were constantly being suggested since day 1.
There are still many similar things for which the community has asked over and over, but have not even received an official response. Two which are in my opinion most important and most frequently suggested are Guild Features and TP Search Options. I feel that after one year, Anet has no excuse for not at the very least addressing these issues. Is that something we can ask for right now?
As for continual improvements, I think a good way to get a feel for what the community really wants is to monitor Reddit, as quality of life game improvement suggestions usually surface to the front page every couple days. Seeing a greater percentage of them come to life would really solidify this Dev-Community bond that you are describing.
While they’re at it, it’d be awesome if those people who contributed got a little shout out (not everyone, but ya know…highlighting the MAIN reddit post that caused the shift or gave the most valuable feedback) and saying “This -Link- was asked of us XX months ago. We kept an eye on it and thought we’d share our progress”
The problem with ANet is that, the secrecy for things that we are really eager to see, is not working in their favour. They’re attempting to create suspense.
You can’t be excited for something you know nothing about.
I’ve always felt ArenaNet’s participation both in-forum and in-game was leagues better than that of any other game company I have seen.
That being said, would you please stop posting things exclusively to stupid social media sites and actually add them to your official site or forums as well?
Thanks! ^.^
How are the ruins nice against blob power? They give you a spot to maybe move around the zerg, that’s it. While you’re sitting in a circle getting nothing but probably a sporadic ganking, they’re sitting in other circles inside your towers and keep and getting sweet loot too. It doesn’t stop the zerg, it doesn’t even slow them down lol.
I find it funny in GvG in GW2 … the rule is … go zerg smash into eachother. But GvG in GW1 … was about actual strategy, map movement and positioning.
This game doesn’t know GvG yet. It’s more like mini zerging
For anyone (like Devon Carver) who doesn’t understand how this works, you pop Endure Pain and/or have Last Stand traited, use Balanced Stance, drop the Battle Standard, then die and run back – you can run back from anywhere on the map in the time it takes for those skills to refresh. Repeat. It works better the more you have; a half dozen ultra-heavies with Battle Standard can prevent a capture indefinitely.
It is not impossible to stop this; if you have a much larger force, can wipe everyone else, and post kill teams at every single entrance to keep them from making it back to the lord pit (caveat: it’s hard to stop an ultra heavy warrior from making it to the lord pit). It is, however, ridiculously hard to stop this in comparison with how easy it is to execute.
I watched the Pax stream and it was so boring. People avoided each other the majority of the time to capture points to win. What happened to player vs. player? I thought pvp was about one person/team trying to beat the crap out of another through combat/skills.
Yea and when I watch LoL all I see is people losing the lane hugging their turrets avoiding the opposing laner. And then top lane just wards so that he doesnt get ganked, but I thought he wants to pvp?! And then the enemy jungler runs around to gank but thats very unfair cause its like 1v2!! And sometimes they kill these neutral creeps, omg pve in pvp waaatttt!!
Look can the whole lot of you stop talking about what is “pvp”. If you want anybody except yourselves to take you seriously stop trying to deflect onto the spvp game format or community. It is quite blatant a vast majority of you dont understand anything about pvp or what makes games competitive, the extent of your pvp experience is exactly what you describe, just running around with your character hitting skills to kill the enemy.
Guess what? No competitive game format has ever emerged from this concept. “PvP” involves not just out skilling with micro, but also out thinking the opponent, which needs map wide macro. The PAX tourney was not just people running around not fighting, thats just what you interpreted through inexperience and ignorance.
Now will spvp be esports? No, not a chance. But not for the reasons you say and furthermore is completely unrelated to anything about WvW.
The culling settings are universal between WvW and PvE, unfortunately they were inadvertently not re-labeled for this update.
Which is a rather poor implementation of this feature, but anyway.
I wish we had a way to turn off other characters’ particle effects. Not skill animations, but effects like backpiece animations and weapon animations. Those make the game slower, and I definitely wouldn’t die if I didn’t see every that every warrior is using the Shatterer holographic wings.
Vic. The issue is that people are having problems even despite that.
I have to agree that gw2 has some shortcommings on the social aspects and not only if you have a few friends. For example: my friends are spread over two guilds, but I can only chat with half of them at a time. Add to that the different worlds forcing me to guest all the time and play without earning influences or getting bonusses and I get slowly more irritated by it. I hope there will be some more improvements to the social side of the game, even more so if people are completely blocked from playing together like this. I believe so many people would be happier for it.
You have to take it all with a grain of salt after all.
But Scarlet has seen something all right. And Sylvari are arguably closer to the Mists than any other race.
Also interesting about her mechanical minions… the green vibe, the fact that they rebuild eachother from ‘dead’ scraps.

The presentation of her background bothers me, but the character can be salvaged. Assuming she has been insane for a while, I think the odds are heavily against her having complied with the Colleges’ rules to graduate legitimately.
As for her having “studied” with the other races, we have no idea what that means. Rumors have a way of blowing things out of proportion, so I’m going to ignore this part until/unless we hear more about it.
She has been hinted at since Flame & Frost, but is so far detached from the players’ experiences that she has been irrelevant. This is the biggest problem.
Players could have met her early on as a slightly broken but non-evil savant of interest, watched the emerging Aetherblades make promises to her that they couldn’t keep, followed her as she pushed herself through experiments to expand her capabilities, rescued College heads she kidnapped when they wouldn’t give her degrees in subjects she barely understood, stood by masters from all the races as she challenged them one-by-one and was beaten.
We could have come to care for her, and been saddened whenever a new crack appeared in the facade of her sanity as she was pushed further and further by the Aetherblade Admirals who kept making more and more promises.
It could have been SO MUCH STORY, and all we got was a maniacal laugh.
Just wanted to add my personal feedback.
I think Tara Strong does a brilliant job with the voiceacting for Scarlet, as well as whoever’s been writing her dialogue, and that alone really elevates her into a character I’ve been enjoying as being part of the story. She’s a fun character.
That being said, I’m also bothered by her background. It’s just a little too ridiculous, and it’s definitely where the whole “Villain Sue” accusations come from. A sylvari that got special dispensation and graduated from all three asura colleges in record time? Who’s apparently more intelligent and devious than any character we’ve met in the game (even compared to asura?) Come on. Especially considering she’s the insane type, which already brings down her credibility as being the mastermind; she seems like she would work better as a prominent minion that carries out the mastermind’s plans. Trahearne was bad enough, and now we have another sylvari that has no business being portrayed the way the story portrays them. Honestly, I think there’s a pretty big problem with how the story positions sylvari characters throughout the entirety of GW2 (second-in-command of the Vigil, for example) but that’s another topic entirely.
I’m really, really hoping that there’s a good explanation for Scarlet’s outrageous and unrealistic backstory. I’m having trouble coming up with one myself, though. If there isn’t, and Scarlet’s background is exactly what it seems, then I really hope you guys can temper your future story characters to be more believable within the context of Tyria.
I do want to mention that you guys do a lot of things right. The way you’ve handled Faren in particular, has been very enjoyable. I wasn’t really a huge fan of him during the personal story, but you guys really made him come into his own during the living story. I also like what you’ve done with Logan (the cutscene with the bomb going off and him using his guardian magic to protect the child was a great touch). The cutscenes have been getting a lot better, and Rox and Braham’s banter has been fun (if a little cringe-worthy sometimes…Kuh-Braham!). Revisiting places like Cragstead, North Nolan Hatchery, etc. that show a lasting impact on the story is when the living story really shines. And even though you guys have had some bugs preventing it from triggering at times, characters recognizing you and what you’ve done in previous living story events really go a long way to include us in a story that very easily runs the risk of making the player just feel like they’re along for the ride rather than being a major influence.
Looking forward to seeing how the story plays out, and I’m sure you’ll continue to improve your approaches to the living story and the characters you populate it with. Thanks again for all the hard work.
Exactly the same issue, changed all my graphics settings about to anything that may effect, no result. Running on lowest, still don’t see aoe’s/lines/marks. Running on lowest with char limit at highest, same, lowest with view distance up same etc… etc… Running at highest, middle, everything; still the same.
It’s impossible to play in WvW when you can’t see static fields, lines of warding, rings of warding, marks etc…
I really hope they sort this out, because it’s now either: Buy a new processor, or stop playing gw2. And that’s not a choice a game that came out, saying it would be playable on a large range of machines, should make me make. I could run with 20-30fps in big blob vs blob fights before this patch. Now this patch comes out, same frame rate, but it’s now unplayable.
And as well as fields, it’s also siege. Which means I can’t use siege on anything the enemy has because 1) I can’t see my own siege. 2) i can’t see their siege.
this is no fun and not fair for other server. now what to do after take all? sit for hours and no play wvw till they have a chance for taking stuff back? i and friends want to level rank, not sit around playing with ourselves.
Are you kidding me? You are partially the reason why they don’t want to come out. If I were the enemies, your safe presence on the keep is telling everyone that there are more of you waiting to wipe us. So why would anyone bother fighting you knowing it is a lost battle? The joke is on you for acting like that.
How is exactly not wanting portals being used to trivialize OPTIONAL content being selfish and anti-social?
It is being selfish for the mere fact it does not affect you and your game play in anyway As far as the anti social part.. Well a player playing a mesmer know they don’t have to put portal down, but they do for helpful reasons. By you opting to have the portals changed to prevent the use of portals in jumping puzzles makes it selfish and anti social as you don’t care to help out your fellow gamers. Portals are very helpful for players who try to do the puzzle and continue to fall and become frustrated by them.. I hate them.. they suck.. but I am willing to try for a while, but after a while I will take a port.. Another question is… Who are you to dictate that I can or can not take a portal to the chest? Who are you tell tell the mesmer they can or can not send me a portal? You aren’t my dictator nor anyone elses.. Players like you have no regards to their fellow players.. You opt for change of things and don’t regard the affect it will have on other players or you don’t care what the affect is as long as you get the end results in your corner. That is selfish. I don’t like people who give little or no regard for their fellow gamers. I don’t like bad apples..
Here’s my take on a constructive argument. Not all PC’s are created equal. For example, I have a desktop computer that is pretty fast and can run GW2 fine. I have an older laptop that can run PvE content ok, but can’t do WvW.
Using my laptop produces a lower framerate that makes it impossible to do jumping puzzles. I know it’s the laptop and not me because I can to them fine on my desktop.
Therefore, things like a mesmer portal may be the only way that some people (those with slower computers) will ever get the shoulderpads / achievement points / or whatever. Still other people can’t do jumping puzzles for squat. For whatever reason they suck at them. They also rely on portals to get the achievements and prize.
For some people, porting these people to the end of the puzzle makes them feel good because they are helping their fellow gamer out. For others, porting is a way to earn tips.
Having portals does not harm anyone, but helps other people. Therefore, they should stay in the game.
My second argument is that what good is a skill that gets disabled under the only PvE circumstance that anyone would want to to use it?

How is exactly not wanting portals being used to trivialize OPTIONAL content being selfish and anti-social?
So you’d rather make a personal attack on me rather than make a constructive argument against my suggestion?
LoL~~ that escalated quickly.
I personally dont see why TS is getting upset. The people who ported them up actually spent their personal efforts to climb up and is not complaining about the efforts they put in and the money they spent in wp-ing just to help others in completing that JP. These people are not paid to do this but they actually went ahead to do it.
It just seems to me that TS has a self-imposed justice and “right” way of doing things. Again, TS fail to understand that the majority just want to play the game as it is and helping others along the way. If one want to jump the JP through their own efforts, is fine. If one want to offer assistance such as portal, thats fine too. If one want to accept their offer, is fine too. All of them made their own personal decisions to do what they want to do in their own ways. However, TS suggestion is literally forcing everything into one single way because it is “right”.
Of course, I hope that TS understand the suggestion might actually bring frustration to people who are just plain bad in JP for whatever reason. Ultimately, if the suggestion is to be put in place, it will affect EBG JP and that will cause yet another round of agony to people who are there just to grab some blueprints and tokens which to be use in a bigger content like WvW.
PS: try reading “categorical imperative”

I’ll stress my point again. Just because something doesn’t affect someone else, doesn’t mean that it is right. Once again, just because something doesn’t affect someone else, doesn’t mean that it is right.
It also doesn’t make it wrong because you say it’s wrong. I think the final say on the matter is ANET’s and so far by their non-action I can gather they don’t see this as a problem or they see it as working as intended.
The thing is that jumping puzzles are optional and you don’t have to do them. There’s many people who play this game that have not set foot into a jumping puzzle.
I disagree with the logic that just because it doesn’t affect everyone else that means it is right. Let’s suppose I just started the game. I found an exploit to level to 80 in under an hour and a way to get exotic armor from dungeons without any effort. I also manage to exploit and get a ton of laurels to get my ascended gear. I also decide that I want a few legendaries for personal use so I use bots to farm the materials for me.
Since me doing this doesn’t affect others, then it must be okay? I hardly doubt many people would see it that way.
I agree that portals should be allowed but it’s uses within the jumping puzzle should be limited so it’s not abused.
The reward is a exotic shoulderpiece that is SOULBOUND. The reason so many people want to complete the jump puzzle is to obtain this reward for their own personal gain, you cannot exploit it because it cannot be sold for more than 3 silver.
Now lets say we have an older player who just wants to complete his exotic set but has a hard time with jump puzzles. You’re basically saying, either spend a huge amount of time attempting this puzzle or too bad for you, no reward?
What about people who only have 1 hand to play with and can only play the game casually? You saying that they should just avoid the Jump puzzle in general even though the chest contains an exotic reward?
I’m sorry but i still don’t see your point. Jump puzzle rewards are not valuable enough to be an exploit, and the exotic pieces that are valuable are always soulbound. Nerfing portal in JP’s would only make you feel better about completing the puzzle.
Based on the details provided by the announcement there’s no reason at all to deduce that you would only be rewarded for your existing achievement points after you get as many as you already had, that’s not even remotely what “retroactively” means. In fact, the wording here is quite reassuring – unlike laurels, which were only rewarded for completing dailies/monthlies after they were implemented and not “retroactively” rewarded to players who had been doing those things all along, here they’re saying “we’re not going to make it so that all the achievements you already got don’t count and only stuff moving forward from this point on will”.
And there’s no reason at all to suppose it would work like WvW (which is a terrible analogy anyways because ranking up in WvW is actually EXTREMELY easy, even if you have a VERY high rank because after rank 5 the Wxp needed to rank up is capped at 5,000; what gets harder to do as you rank up is get a new TITLE to go with your rank, as they space them further apart), which did retroactively reward players for the effort they’d already made but in a manner that ensured that people starting from scratch and people who were already rank “awesome” got chests the same way – ranking up. The veterans just got 2 per rank until they caught up with their backlog.
The thing about WvW rank chests though is that ranking up to 2 and ranking up to 132 are pretty much the same exact thing: some silver, badges, blueprints, and most likely a green item. From the sound of this though, there will be different skins and other rewards based on each “tier” you’ve reached, so a scenario wherein the previous tiers you’ve already attained only unlock after you reach even higher tiers really seems unlikely.
In short, don’t worry, be happy.
