Ascended gear grind is OTT ridiculous

Ascended gear is one of several systems put into the game because ANet’s vision of players repeating content endlessly because the content is fun met the harsh reality of players unwilling to repeat content endlessly without sufficient incentive to do so. Like it or not, MMO’s require a large population to make money in amounts that are sufficient for their upkeep and potential growth as well as profit for their backers. To maintain larger numbers, the segment of the population that would depart without long term goals must be catered to. Legendary weapons were supposed to serve as that incentive. However, I believe that ANet underestimated just how single-minded some players would be in pursuing their in-game goals.

I despise the way that Ascended weapons and armor are acquired. Then again, I don’t care for using spreadsheets to keep track of whether I have enough virtual materials to virtually make other virtual materials so I can then make more virtual materials and eventually make a virtual gewgaw. The process is boring. On the other hand, I like that the game is still around, and given the way Ascended was added to the game, I believe that ANet believed is was necessary for the health of the game.

I felt so bad for ARenanet at release. Because the players proved within 2 weeks that their vision of the game was extremely flawed and that players don’t care about content but simply want rewards.

I remember in Orr within a week people were running COF and orr continously for hours, got the full set within a week and promptly began whining at end game content. Legendaries that were suppose to be hard was also done within a couple of months because players just farmed the kitten out of the Asura even Orr.

The first few months of guild wars 2 was simply adjusting the game to meet the reality. A lot of people l ike to whine how they strayed from their vision. What those players don’t realize was that it was either kitten off a vocal few or eventually start firing people like other companies do.

As u know im pro. ~Tomonobu Itagaki

This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

Siege Troll Discussion

in WvW

Posted by: LumpOfCole.4701

LumpOfCole.4701

To kick off the brainstorm I’ll throw out this idea:

  1. When a player places a piece of siege they receive a stack of “Exhaustion”
  2. A stack of “Exhaustion” expires after three minutes
  3. If a player has three stacks of “Exhaustion” they can no longer place siege

This has problems:

Several EU servers are running a policy where only commander should deploy siege blueprints. He can easily alone put 3-4 rams on one gate or set up 4 catapults to take down a reinforced wall with the current system or deploy more than 3 superior ACs to siege up a tower or a keep. Now he would need to wait to break in the inner keep or somebody else would be needing to deploy the siege. Siege blueprints are a big cost for PuG commanders (myself included), but some receive donations from their allies. Popular commanders are generally trusted by their community and the least likely to be trolls due their visible role in the game.

Removing the suggested “exhaustion” restrictions from those who have the commander tag up would not completely stop the abuse, but make it much rarer and more visible. Many now have a commander tag, but a typical siege troll has his main on the enemy server and and is using an alt account and often has an upleveled character, who doesn’t have a commander tag.

I cannot invent a foolproof system stop the siege trolling. My best advice is: use the ingame report tool and have more Arenanet employer or volunteers (among the player base), who handle the reported cases. Serious violations should lead to banning that account from entering WvWvW. Hacking is another issue, which would need human interaction.

Because commander tags are fairly common, I recommend adding to this suggestion that might also hit two birds with one stone:

For every person in a Commander’s squad, exhaustion from placing siege is reduced by 1 minute (making it so only a few people in the squad would reduce this exhaustion to zero). Because of this, the natural ‘Exhaustion’ period could be something higher like 10 minutes.

What this will do:

- Promote people following a commander to join their squad (“Join my squad so I can drop siege!”). This habit will make it easier for commanders to check supply as well.
- Exhaustion will affect siege trolls who don’t tag up and also get multiple people to follow them. If they do happen to go to this extreme effort, they will be easily spotted on the map for what they are since they’ll have a tag up.
- Promote legitimate defenders to tag up to drop siege and to create a focal defense point for people to see on the map.

And, I’m now going to start a bet how long before people remember things cost . . . mostly, multiples of 100 or 50 on the Gem Store.

Which always made me wonder why people would buy odd numbers and then be unable to use them.

5 Foil wrapped candies: 118 gems.
Bank access: 35 gems.
Total makeover kit: 350 gems.
Riding Broom: 250 gems
5 Magic find booster: 550 gems
5 transmutation charges: 270 gems
Various finishers: 500-650 gems

Purchasable amounts of gems: 800, 1600, 2800…

Tell me how those numbers on top can divide evenly into the numbers on the bottom. (okay, sure, bank access goes evenly into the biggest one… so I should have to spend $35 in real money to get an evenly divisible costing amount of bank access express items?)

One more post demonstrating how the Gem Conversion debacle has been handled poorly.

From our own Gaile Gray:

Here’s an update for you:

It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.

In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.

We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!

~~~~~
Sorry for the delay in posting this, but out of respect to our international community, we wanted to be able to post in several forums at once.
As far as communication and transparency goes, this post is too little too late. Though I, along with the entire playerbase, am grateful that changes are coming, here’s the problem.
  1. No apology at all. This was a colossal mistake that should never have made it to the live build. An apology is due.
  2. We finally get a rationale for the change after over 24 hours worth of well-founded opposition, and that rationale is at apparent odds with the practical experience of the players.
  3. This, and two other posts, are worded as if the Devs have condescended to acquiesce to the playerbase on this, as if they are the ones taking the higher road.
And here’s the kicker: it took less than a few hours for players to suggest adding the “custom amount” button. It took less than a day for the Devs to decide it was doable.
SO WHY, BY THE SIX GODS, DID THE DEVS NOT THINK OF THIS ON THEIR OWN?
Madness? This is not madness. This is ANet.
I think it would be nice if LA could get some clean up of Breachmaker pieces going, and Kessex could get rid of fallen tower chunks. Re-purpose these things like the ship hulls were when LA was built after the flood. I think if we as players could see a gradual change in LA as it gets cleaned up, it would help us feel immersed a lot more than we are currently. We’ve seen “workers” hammering away at debris for how long now, and nothing’s changed. Heck, in WvW when the “workers” get going, towers and keeps change within the hour! (Ok, its not cosmetic, but you get my drift, right?) Maybe we need to get those “workers” out of the Mists and put them to work in LA.
Stuff like this is why I’ve begun dreading patch day. It seems like Arena Net doesn’t want me to play anymore.
ANet: “Morsus, you’ve played 700 hours over the past 2 years. That’s unhealthy.”
Me: “You shouldn’t have made such an awesome game then!”
ANet: “Don’t worry, we won’t make you quit cold turkey, we’ll just make your quality of life lower until your desire to play is gone.”
Me: “Stop it! Leave me alone! I just want to waste my life behind a computer!”
People saying that players are buying these things outright with real cash make my mind boggle.
I’ve just done a quick calculation using the current exchange rates, and to buy the Juggernaut directly from the trading company converting gems to gold would cost ~$617.
If people really are doing that, one, they’re just bloody stupid and two, I can understand how ArenaNet think they can get away with exploiting the stupidity of their punters by implementing more and more gem shop frippery.
Please note that due to restrictions placed on my account, I am only allowed 1 post per hour.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
Hi all,
juste finished ACp1 and i’m here to express my frustation… Well, the thing is, I did p1 with pugs … fine.
We arrive in the scepter part, I solo this part, so all the 4 others people stand here and do … nothing… Fine again BUT , one man, a war, drop dusk from the chest (me, I got 3 blue like always ….) !!
At this moment I’m like WTF man, what’s your mf ? He said “120%” … And he had like 3300 ap …
I know rng is rng but I can’t accept the fact that a player who just stand here and do nothing when I’m doing the stuff got dusk …
It’s so frustrating since I’m, for about 2 weeks now, saving to buy dusk (since I know I don’t have a lucky account) and POUF, in front of me a random guy drop it … Currently, I’m not feeling rewarded for playing this game …
ps: sorry guys for my bad english, it’s not my first language…
I still hope in vain for a real quest like event that leads to a Precursor. Something that involves defeating all the major world bosses (maybe not the newer ones, or maybe the newer ones specifically cause it’s that much harder. As long as actually completing the event guaranteed an account bound item relevant to the quest.) Then bringing them somewhere, to make another account bound item which is needed to enter a mini dungeon, and then used to open a chest that has another item. And so on until you’ve done enough sufficiently hard things that you get items to dump in the forge and the result is the Precursor of your choice.
Even better would be a different series of events per precursor, but I think just one is hard enough.
If we can do a “precursor quest” here and there, bang, got a precursor, what is so different to free precursor? For example, someone suggested AP chest, its a matter of time, so everyone can get a precursor, and everyone go craft their legendary.
Everyone who has played the game for long enough will be able to get a precursor, and indeed they should.
They are Veterans of the game. They have played the game and done the things that earned them AP.
The most frustration comes from exactly these players. They have played the game so much in fact, that they have all the materials laying about for a legendary to craft.
Let them have their precursor.
Let them earn it through playing the game and not because they farmed the gold for it. Farming isn’t legendary, nor is flipping the TP.
On the other hand 10k AP is a year worth of actually playing the game.
Just do it, please.
I got Dusk as a drop, once. Some friends and I were in Queensdale, they went to Shadow Behemoth, I was in the water by the temple doing daily aquatic. I killed a firefly while in the water, decided to step out and loot its corpse, and there was Dusk. I sold it. This was back when it was worth 600 gold. Yes, that is a very good drop.
The thing is, it seems like every single ounce of my luck, since launch, was taken up by that one good drop. Anything ever involving RNG, I fail horrifically. I never get good drops, ever, from anything, aside from that singular instance. The most notable drop I ever got aside from that was getting Celestial from a uniden dye I got during the dredge fractal, and celestial was only worth about 12 gold or less at the time, and I used it. That’s it. I think that if I had more consistent luck, I’d have made a lot more gold than that 600. I very sincerely doubt I’ll ever see another precursor in my inventory.
I just really hate the RNG in this game.
Yeah, 800 exotic greatswords and over 2000 rare greatswords into the forge…nothing to show for it. For a long time I threw ever single rare weapon I got into the forge in sets of 4 of the same….no precursors. I ran dungeons for months and threw all tokens into making exotic greatswords….no precursor. I went after and got every slayer acheivement as well as most of the weapon killer achievements, no precursor.
I’ve had all gifts to make 1 legendary for 9 months now, and gifts to make a second legendary since around december. I can actually make either twilight or sunrise since I have gifts for both. Never seen a precursor at all in this game and been playing since launch.
I’m one of those also that no longer even congratulate someone when they get their precursor….I’m bitter. I had a friend join the game 2 months ago…he got his first precursor (the shield) doing Lion’s arch events with me during the first part of the escape from lions arch event. Got his second two nights ago doing a fractal run with me…as well as an ascended weapons box (something I have also never seen).
RNG hates me. I really was looking forward to a scavanger hunt or some quest to go and get precursors….but, not happening this feature update.
I have 2 legendaries, I got the precursor on the forge, the first one was the legend, I used dungeons exotic staffs got it at the second try. Then I wasted 220 gold in the forge and don’t get nothing, don’t will do this never again. So i decide save dungeons tokens went i got 2400 of each dungeon (5000 of AC because i don’t like arah) I made exotic swords and try again got the precursor at the third try. So my advice is that do dungeons save a lot of tokens and use it to beg on the forge. I don’t know for sure but it looks like the dungeon weapons works better.
Doing dungeons you get gold and mats, and the exotic weapons that you made using 4 dungeons weapons can be sell, so you always get profy.
Sorry for my bad english.
You could work a week at a minimum wage job
I hate seeing this as a reply to these kind of threads.
Firstly minimum wage is different in every country (IF there is a minimum wage).
Many people here are students.
Many others have families/bills/mortgage.
Not everyone can afford to buy gems to convert to gold. Not everyone sees it as a justified expenditure either.
(for example, I have no problem buying a skin on gemstore or a gathering tool, but I HATE the idea of converting gems to gold. )
Anet needs to come up with another way for these percursors. Yeah they shouldn’t be completely easy, but you shouldn’t have to pay or play an unknown number of hours.
(notice the main problem is unknown.) The RNG in this game is dreadful.
But that is exactly what the OP means and complains about….
You seem to be arguing an economic rationale for why it happens the way it does?
He’s talking about meaningful progression, taking meaningful steps towards acquisition, that can be difficult to acquire.
If the number crunchers can’t set up a system that incorporates that without blowing out the market then that’s their fault.
Why create a market for something that has nothing to do with playing the game? Where is the reward for being good at WvW or PvP for example?
There’s nothing legendary about RNG/gold grinding.
cmud.5689 the point of topics like that is not that we want a-net to give all a free precursor u know…
But that is exactly what the OP means and complains about…. “I play for x hours per day, I deserve a pre drop”" Free or not, he expressed that he does not like the odds of getting one / methods of obtaining it.
U do remember what devs said about what a Legendary should mean… now consider what it means atm… means either you are super lucky or super farming… nothing special about it… that is the problem, and crafting them will not fix anything since the kittens runs about year and half and ppl that actualy Experience the game generay get nothing. The mere fact that they did not make those precursors bound is a hint for all the grind laid as a fondation to all this… and ppl will complain because A-net states one intend, ends up with the opposide result… Crafting ascended gear is more legendary and requires more actual doing then the legendary farming atm…
