Do I really need to remind people of the absolute HORROR expressed by Anet devs anytime the class is even mentioned and the total state of panic if some one suggests that a team of rangers for anything.

If you wouldn’t mind, I’d certainly appreciate it. Please provide links.

Fixed.

You can’t speak for everyone, since there are people who are happy with what they are doing.

It’s also impossible for ANet to meet every customers expectations, since a) customer expectations vary and b) customer expectations might go against their vision for the game.

The knowledge that this expectation is unrealistic does not, unfortunately, make it any less boring.

It should, however, lead you to conclude that the problem and solution are both on your end of the equation, not arenanet’s.

Dailies are a punishment to some

It’s called daily wars for a reason, everything from dragons to dungeon rewards revolve around dailies. It’s pathetic, why I quit playing. GW2 wasn’t the best of games before, but now that I have to log in every day to keep up is just… WoW 2.0

Especially with laurels… lawl, terrible terrible design. “play your way” yeah right.. maybe if you wanna be poor the entirety of the game and never get ascended gear.

If you can’t even be bothered to log in occasionally to do simple tasks in exchange for END GAME gear then MMO games as an entire genre is not for you.

While you are at it you might as well not play any other online games where there’s ANY progression whatsoever because if you can’t even stand the minimal effort that it takes to do dailies(Which is completely OPTIONAL) in GW2 then you aren’t cut out to do anything.

In fact just quit online games all together and save us from your inane rants on the forums. That would be much appreciated.

And if those other people want more rewards, then they can put in more effort. You know, like doing events, dungeons, fractals, WvW, whatever. Dailies in no way interfere with that and do not impose any kind of “artifical ceiling”.

I meant laurels, not gold or the other currencies. You can get them only by completing dailies and monthlies. The amount you can get is fixed – and low, and there is no way to obtain them faster, even if you put a great effort in the game, much greater than logging off after completing your dailies. There should be more ways of earning laurels, or a way to earn more of them – with DR – but without the absurd ceiling of one per day and ten per month.

Why, exactly? If you really want to deck out your characters with ascended trinkets, do fractals. Laurels are for those who play the game casually, so that over time, they too can get ascended gear.

It was never meant to be a fast or better way to get them. Just a less efficient alternative for people who can’t or won’t do fractals.

As for necklaces, if someone is so fixated on getting a 3% increase to their stats that they feel they’re being punished with the laurel system, I’d say the problem is in their mindset, not the game.

And as far as dailies are concerned, as others have said, they complement your gameplay. There really is no donwside to them. They’re extra. A cherry on top. A cherry that requires literally 15-20 minutes of effort if you’re focused on them, or zero effort if you just play the game.

That’s a nice little recounting of what happened but you left out a few points:

- Anet acknowledged the possibility of a problem.
- Anet felt the existing thread was insufficient and wanted more data. This doesn’t mean they ignored the thread they closed, more is well… more not the the same stuff they have.
- They created a stickied thread with an Anet post to start it to make it more apparent, official, and hopefully get noticed easier.
- After declaring it an “X-files level conspiracy” they kept working on it. Seriously, think about that for a moment. The problem they found didn’t jump up and slap them in the face after they gave up. No, they kept looking in to the problem.
- Once they found a problem (may or may not be ’the problem) they were big enough people to admit it publicly. Again, think about this. They created another sticky post to say “Hey, we were wrong. There is a problem. Sorry about that.”

Just the fact they made a post to say “We were wrong” is more than you ever get from most companies. Heck it is more than you get from most people.

Sorry but if you’re going to talk about what happened you have to give credit were it’s due and Anet IS due some credit here. Sure they aren’t perfect but the way you tell it it’s like they covered their ears screaming “LALALALALA” until the code jumped out and slapped them forcing them to fix it. Which is obviously impossible and it’s disrespectful to the hard working people at Anet to ignore the time they put in to checking and double checking loot tables and lines of code to hunt down what amounts to a bug.

being a hero doesn’t mean strutting around in your shiniest gear never getting a spot of dirt on it except when facing a dragon solo in which it would give up based on the shininess of your gear.

really, being a hero(especially one of the common people) usually means connecting with the common people on every level of their lives. so what if you have to go plugging holes in a leaky pipe? you just saved a town’s water supply and their agriculture.

so what if you have to go rounding up cows to put back in their pens? that’s less time a farmer has to spend chasing runaways instead of growing crops to feed his family

lastly, didn’t you ever watch Hercules? being a hero doesn’t mean only doing the best things. it means doing your best at any given task.

First of all, I have seen only 1 of these, and I was in WvW, and they were in my group I was running with. I was intrigued at the beginning.

It is a given with me, anything equestrian is going to draw my attention – instantly. I saw ponies and got excited. I love horses, have horses, ride horses, have been for over 30 years (yes, I am an adult).

I am also female.

So let’s get those things out there, as it is sure to color my response here.

I don’t understand the OP and the other hater’s problems, but I do agree, if Anet would put in an option on your own graphics interface where you could throw the switch on ALL effects from legendaries, do it – so we don’t have to have more of the same of these distateful forum arguments about who is more adult, who is more fun, who is more manly, who is a homophobe etc.

To me, I love it. Puts a little magic and whimsy into the game, which is actually full of magic and whimsy if you get down to it. It just takes a bit of creativity to see it just like it does in the real world. I love magic and whimsy because it keeps me from becoming so downtrodden by reality that I couldn’t just go on.

I come to play games to escape, to have fun, to do things I couldn’t do in reality.

Where can I talk to a frog/rabbit/lizard hybrid genius who runs around with a giant robot golem named Mr. Sparkles and fight a giant cubist hand that is bent on destroying me even though I only just walked into the room?

Where can I hear rats talking about whether they should or shouldn’t go into sewers and explore?

Where can I see a giant cat/human cub creature and a human playing ghost and charr and making social comments about acceptance regardless of differences?

There is tons of examples of the “goodness” and “lightness” all over this game. I believe you are going to see what you want to see at any given time, and that what you want to see will be directly affected by your current state of mind.

Not to say those who see the dark are bad, or the ones who see the light are better, just we all come from different spaces, places, experiences, and exposures and we all enter into this joint alternative reality from a different perspective.

What upsets me is the drastic attacks on anyone who likes the bow from those who don’t and that those people can’t see that their arguments go back the other way too.

If this bow is what they like, who are you to force them to loose something they enjoy in the game.
If you don’t like this bow, don’t buy it. Don’t affect the market price. Don’t advertise it. Don’t talk about it. Ignore it like last weeks garbage.
If you like it buy it, make it, use it, enjoy it.
We all make this game what we want. We all get as much enjoyment as we wish to get out of it. We all paid the price to own it, play it, and each of us plays our own game.
Someone having the bow really shouldn’t affect your enjoyment one way or the other, but if people really can’t see past it, Anet, please to avoid these things, put in a “no legendary effect” switch on the individual’s graphics so they can shut off all the legendary effects, but still allow those who don’t mind, don’t care, or actually like them to enjoy them.

To those haters who hate because they don’t have any options – Anet has implemented 3 Greatsword legendaries. Who is to say you won’t get your gritty, dark, depressing option in the future.

I personally want the bow. It is the only legendary I want. I didn’t desire any legendary before the redesign of this bow. I thought all the legendaries were boring, uninteresting, and unoriginal. I make no fault on those who wanted them because that is their game and I am playing mine. Same goes the other way.

Hope everyone has fun with the game. I close with an alternate reference as to where the “Dreamer” bow came from… just as a toss into the mix (I don’t know if it is right or wrong):

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they’re wrong, wait and see.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

In my opinion, this game requires too much grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ProxyDamage.9826

Yes, you can always not grind and do absolutely nothing, and that applies to both games. Your definition of optional is really warped. When doing something and quitting are the only two options, then doing something can’t really be considered optional to playing the game. It’s like saying shooting things is optional in call of duty. Yes you can play call of duty without shooting things, you just won’t go anywhere.

When doing something and quitting are the only two options,

…What in the kitten…?

Yeah, I think this says everything I needed to know about you. You’re one of those kids aren’t you? The “Call of Duty” generation. So formatted and creatively barren that the only way you know how to “have fun” is by having the computer constantly flashing “DING! YOU’RE DOING STUFF! HERE’S A … SOMETHING!” at your face. You’re not really having fun mind you, you’re just doing a chore you’ve come to accept as “having fun”. You don’t really care what you’re doing so long as it comes with some arbitrary fireworks saying “atta’ boy!”, “good girl!”. You don’t do things because you like them, you do things for external reward. There’s no trace of intrinsic motivation.

So there’s only grind or quit in this game? What the kitten game are you playing? See, I’m playing GW2. In this game, while there are some end game limitations, there’s definitely things that people can do and enjoy other than kittening grinding.

I’ve personally spent hours just discovering the land. It’s a massive, and fairly detailed at that. You can learn about the land and the people, the lore you could say, read about it in the libraries or talk to the NPCs to learn more about the zone. Exploration is worthwhile on its own in this game.

You also have all the varied instances, which you can do for reasons other than “grinding kittening tokens”. They have a story mode and, while some are more interesting than others, they’re generally interesting enough to explore.

You have WvW, where I’ve personally spent entire days not only exploring the land but my own builds as well. Testing, tweaking, adjusting, rebuilding my builds and strategies. Joining massive zergs or going on small group raids.

You can go to sPvP, which I haven’t fully explored yet. You can do this at any time, with no need for anything even remotely resembling gear or level grind at all, ever. Everyone’s level 80, with everything unlocked, and max stats gear freely available.

You can do jumping puzzles, ranging from “very easy” to “stupid, random and unfair” (kitten you Gryphoon Rook Run), and even some quite clever that involve no jumping at all (<3 to whomever thought of the lab one).

…I could go on, stuff like crafting and playing the market, but I think I made my point. There’s so much kitten you CAN do OTHER than gear grinding. Yes, you can work at acquiring more expensive but better looking gear. I’ve done some of that too, I’m ok with it in moderation, but there’s so much more to do that isn’t that…

If you can’t find anything else to do than “grind or quit”, I’m afraid that’s entirely your fault, not the game’s.

Anet said that stats should grind-free.

When did they say that? Where did they say that? Cite an interview. Quote a developer. Link an article. Give us something of substance. Go on, we’ll wait.

Well even look at the people arguing. They believe spending 3-5 hours min. a day is ‘casual’ or ‘normal’.

Funny, I’ve never thought of time played as a measure of “casual” or “hardcore”. I’ve always defined a “casual player” as someone who enjoys the game with little concern over obtaining the best gear available and a “hardcore player” as someone who is driven by the need to obtain the best gear available.

In my opinion, this game requires too much grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

You’d have a point if they hadn’t made statements to the effect that max stats would be readily attainable

They never said “max” stats would be readily available; they said we wouldn’t have to run gear treadmills. And we don’t have to. Sure, we can grind away in an effort to obtain the most desirable gear in the game, but we can also participate in and enjoy every aspect this game has to offer without it. That’s what they meant when they said we wouldn’t have to grind to enjoy the game. I think a lot of people have greatly misconstrued what they said,

Anyway, it’s one thing for you or I to hold or share your opinion; it’s entirely different for Anet to do so. They need to focus on keeping as many people interested in the game as possible, and blaming the player starts them down some slippery slopes.

If a game developer tries to please everyone, they’ll ultimately please no one. Keeping as many people interested in the game as possible is certainly ArenaNet’s goal, but there’s a fundamental problem with that goal. There are too many players looking for too different things out of their MMO.

Hardcore players want to the best gear to be difficult to obtain, but casual players want a chance to obtain the best gear too. Skilled players want to be challenged by the game, but bad players don’t want to be left behind. Open world PvP’ers enjoy the thrill of hunting other players, but PvE’ers want to go about their business without being ganked.

Perfectly appeasing all of these people is impossible. You can shoot for a balance and please many of them, but you will never please all of them. There are a lot of player who need that carrot dangling from the end of the stick to keep their interest piqued. And ArenaNet has given them those carrots in the form of exotic and legendary equipment. But they’ve also given those who don’t wish to chase the carrot the freedom to enjoy every aspect of the game without them. Let me reiterate that, because that’s the important part.

There is not one single aspect of this game in which you cannot participate if you do not own exotic or legendary equipment.

That is a statement of fact. And because of that truth, the statement that the game requires grinding must be false.

In my opinion, this game requires too much grind

Always blaming the players…

In this case? Absolutely. The “Waaah! I’m required to put forth effort to obtain the best gear in the game!? They lied to me! This game sucks!” attitude being displayed by the TC certainly isn’t the developer’s fault.

This is NOT WoW. As far as I’m aware this is not WoW. Tell if I’m wrong though.

This is GuildWars 2. I’m talking about as far Gw2 is concerned this is grind.

You keep on this logical fallancy. You keep on doing this: You compare A to B even though A has some of B’s faults A is not that bad.

The fact is A has faults. That does not give A an excuse.

So it’s a logical fallacy to compare A to B? Okay…

This is way to much gold. In Gw1 you wouldn’t spend so long getting the stats heck they were so cheap people even gave them away or it would only cost around 3k (which was like 1.5 gold here)

So there’s that. And then there’s this…

You need around 75-100 gold to get the stats, armor, runes, jewelery etc. you need. This is way to much gold. In Gw1 you wouldn’t spend so long getting the stats heck they were so cheap people even gave them away or it would only cost around 3k (which was like 1.5 gold here)

No map completion isn’t grind since you do different things. I even have 50 gold atm. But I realized that I’d need 100 to get the stats/armor/armor looks (dye included) I want. THEN what? Grind another 2300 for a legend? I mean cmon… that is pratically my only option.

Which is it? Is it gear your need? Or is it gear you want?

Heck I’d like to go to FOTM but:
1. Eventually I would need a aginy resist item which costs alot of time and money.

There you go again with that word, “need”. If people needed agony resist items to run FotM, then nobody would have been able to run them when they were first introduced.

2. I’m a University student and simply can’t put 2 hours into a run.
I played it once and found it fantastic but realistically I can’t put that much time in.

I say this with all due respect, but judging by your posts, filled with “ME! NOW!” borderline hysteria, childish “I know you are, but what am I” retorts when called out for multiple contradictions and logical fallacies, and a general lack of care to any kind of proper grammar or spelling, I never would have guessed you for a university student.

New Dailies

As a Ranger I demand that all my pets get a dodge ability so that I can complete the dodge daily without having to turn my pet off. As it is, I have to put my pet on passive and get in close and tight with my shortbow.

I feel silly doing it. But some would say I should feel silly picking a ranger anyway. I dislike the new dailies.

You can always use one of your four other characters as well if it’s really that much of a problem. Personally I did it with my ranger and my pet was in combat, it’s not that hard unless you’re purposefully trying to do all fifteen in the same instance.

I don’t think dailies are meant to be grinded in fifteen minutes like everyone currently thinks they are. Some of the daily requirements are stupid and buggy (looking at you, kill combos that robbed me of my dailies.) but I love the fact that they’re random every day instead of having to do the same thing every single day, making it feel like less of a grindfest and making me feel like I worked for the laurels I got.

People just hate change if it’s not handing them the game on a silver platter.

If you did the research you would have found out that Guild Halls are being introduced sometime ( this year ) hopefully in the next month or so.
Secondly they have already stated they are adding a dueling measure that will allow people to duel other players in a private room that you control.

Seriously people do 5 minutes of research before you post on the forums if you truly want to have your idea be taken seriously. Maybe if more people spent more time thinking instead of blindly posting we could get some real suggestion on the forums.

I did my research, and yes, i know about all that, im asking about PvE Dueling, random people, you know, there are skills which can ONLY be used on PvE and WVW, right?

Also the gear……… dunno if you knew, but sPvP has standarize gear and stats……..

The pvp gear is standardized but it is on par with the PvE exotic gear at 80. Also what good is a duel going to do you against a “Player” for PvE, since the mobs never react the same as a player. Also fighting a player is greatly different than fighting a mob.

There is nothing that Dueling can do for you, that will increase your skill for PvE, by dueling in a PvP aspect period. Nice try on trying to redeem your self but your reasons don’t add up. Trying reading other threads you would have knowing about these things before you Blindly posted this new thread.

Firstly I never said games with linear progression cannot survive !

Second, this is GW2 so what ever happened in GW1 doesnt mean toss !

Third, this game is very much geared towards becoming a vertical progression game. Fractals started this trend, AND Anet themselves said they want to increase lvl cap later on which is vertical progression.

Lastly, they only said there would be no new tier in 2013, they did not say there never would be, so vertical progression in GW2 is very likely.

For one thing it would open up a lot of potential for griefing. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you were trying to level in a low-level area and every time a DE started a group of level 80’s came through and 1-shotted everything before you got a chance to even hit it so you couldn’t get any credit for the event?

I actually experienced that during my brief time trying out WoW – I was trying to do one of the “Kill 10 rats” type quests outside Stormwind and 2 higher level players came through, killed every single one of the enemies we were supposed to find, laughed about it and then stood there openly debating whether they should wait for them to respawn and do it again or move on to griefing someone else. Personally I’m very glad it’s not really an option in this game.
