My suggestions are:
- Introduce a required boss(es) that insta-kills you when you fail to dodge when NPC told you to.
- Introduce a required boss(es) that insta-kills you if you do not get a potion and nourishment from NPC which told you to, or a zone which kills you fast if you do not get a potion/nourishment “antidote”.
Those are terrible suggestions! Requiring players to use a consumable to beat content is bad and annoying. Insta kills are also bad and annoying.
What the game needs, is a tutorial, and slowly increasing difficulty. The game needs to teach players the required skills naturally as they play through PVE. Players aren’t lazy, but the game designers made a design mistake by not coming up with a decent way to teach players essential combat strategy.
Currently almost all of open world PVE makes zero requirement regarding skill, but doesn’t teach anything either. Then there’s dungeons, which are a very steep increase in difficulty and mechanics, without teaching those mechanics first. Fractals is a bit more gradual, but I think a lot of players falsely assume that since Fractals aren’t accessibly until halfway into the game, that they are there for at a higher difficulty tier than dungeons.

You can not easily make people better players and new players come to the game all the time essentially defeating the purpose.
I feel sorry for anyone that is truly bothered by other players lack of skill but you might as well learn to live with it as things are not going to ever change.
There’s plenty of open world dueling, it is called WvW.
If that form of it doesn’t stand well with you then place your complaints there.
Or at least ask for it in the sPvP area, where it would probably do some good.
Some folks in various threads like this have made the claim it would bring back people into the PvE maps. If that were the case ANet should really put the duel system in the Mists because there’s been constant wailing that sPvP is boring.
PvP belongs in the Mist, plain and simple. PvE needs a stronger story, interesting dynamics, and various other polish to some dungeons.
Back in GW1 times it was the Battle isles, which was separated from the PvE elements.
Yes other games might have this in their titles, but GW2 is not them.
It is GW2 and it should do what it wants instead of following other games.
Should I wish for skiing jet pack battle armor since Tribes has it?
Or ask for the Meld from Firefall? Pandas as a playable race?
No, because that’s not GW2.
If you miss the days of open PvP and can find titles that do such a mechanic go play them for a while. Bringing it to the open map will not guarantee it stop folks from camping Lion’s Arch.
The PvE map is for cooperation on missions and playing out storylines, the Mists is where people should go to bash one another’s heads in.
As stated earlier in my post, if any place needs dueling it would be the Mists because playing capture point game mode time and time again is boring.
Yes Costume Brawl exists and it is mostly played in the cities (LA the prime example) in at least my server. I’ve rarely seen anyone use it in PvE. No doubt they would fear someone troll them by dragging mobs to their area.
So if they are in PvE and try to Costume Brawl, chances are they would be in a remote area. We might as well keep them in a safe remote area like the Mists so their PvP experience isn’t interrupted.
Another point to address, “It’s simply change this code…” No chances are the coding isn’t a simple manner. If it were why wasn’t it added already? They have bigger issues to handle and if that were to ever occur it would have to wait.
tldr version PvP folks need the Mists cleaned/improved upon. PvE just need better story and rewards to drag folks out into maps. Combining the two doesn’t make sense when technically we have two game modes and a “middle ground”.
Exotics still work just fine… >.>
Irrelevant. The last major additions to the game were ascended weapons and armour, doesn’t matter if you ‘need’ it or not, naturally most players will want to get a set or two.
The cost and effort required are really a bit much, imho.
Nothing is stopping them getting it, if they don’t want to put the effort in why should they get the reward?

Wow, you would think people forgot all about crafting material management in other games.
Game shipped with stack limits of 250. Its an upgrade to go from there. the people complaining about this being in the gemstore probably think the extra character slots is a bogus upgrade as well.
Just something I’ve noticed with most people I speak to.
Those who purchase gems seem to have no affect on thier luck from MF, whereas people who never purchase gems are getting the same amount of precursors one would expect from RNG.
It would not make sense for anet to reduce your internal ‘luck’ or precursor drop chance based on how likely they think you are to purchase gems instead.. but do you think some one might think up a crazy conspiracy theory about how they would stoop that low?
I really don’t get it. I remember receiving my first gameboy and playstation games when I was 6 and dying over and over and over and over again. (I was playing Zelda. Those games told you nothing.) I picked myself up, thought of a way to beat what was beating me or avoid it. Why is that such a huge issue today?
Yes, those events are way too hard for a solo roamer. It’s written on the UI! They are group events. As long as you have a few people with you, you can even do those events in Queensdale in level 1 white gear on a cloth class.
Now, if they were SAB Tribulation mode kind of hard, that would be a serious issue, I completely agree! But they’re perfectly manageable as long as you go there with the required amount of people.
This game is extremely lenient and you can die as many times as you want until you figure things out. Dying in games is part of the learning process. ><
Can’t say I’ve noticed the difference, to be honest . . . I main a female mesmer.
The implication that women can’t run in exactly the same way as men does make me laugh, though. Being female doesn’t magically give you limp flailing limbs or a delicate stride or anything.
“I have to say that it irks me a little when people use the word ‘female’ as if it was a noun when it’s more of an adjective.”
The word “female” is both a noun and an adjective, depending on how it’s used.
“My father does not wear female underwear.” (adjective)
“Some females are more aggressive than many males.” (noun)
No charge for the tutoring.
You lost me at expansion. I ain’t paying $60 for additions to this game when they’re giving them out for free.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Insulting & non-constructive:
“Anet isn’t competent enough with this game”
“Anet lied to us”
“Fire whoever designed this dungeon/weapon/armor”
“whoever designes this dungeon/weapon/armor clearly has no clue”You consider these personal attacks?
Yeah… nothing insulting about being called an incompetent, clueless liar who’s useless at his job.
I think what we need to consider here is that ‘fun’ is subjective. If you watch the Twitch streams, the developers do very much seem to enjoy their game. They are having fun with what they’ve made. They are happy with it, and this is probably somewhat how they gauge what is fun and what is not. Which is fine.
That said, what is fun for one, is not necessarily fun for someone else. Which from the hollering on the forums, is very very obvious. So while they are potentially creating a ‘fun game’ to them, it doesn’t suit some of your tastes, so you take what they said and throw it back them claiming they are lying.
I don’t feel they were (or are) lying. I think it’s a matter of perspective.
You’re upset that having optimal gear makes doing the hardest boss encounter in the game more efficient?
Did BG gearcheck everyone present the what, 2-3 times they have beaten it?
You think getting full exotic gear requires some sort of “miraculous” grind?
Every post from Jonathan and other devs almost seem like a cry of frustration to me.
Indeed, and Cry of Frustration gives stacks of confusion, which seems the status you are in! /jk
Now really, what basis do you rely your conclusions that the company is experiencing sustainabily instead of growth? With Gigantic gaming companies behind ANet, shaping the business model, do you honestly believe that the actual business model is bad?
“What growth rate they want for Gw2?” This is the real question and the one nor you nor me have the answer to. For you it seems slow and dull, for them it may be perfect this way.
/cheers
If it seems perfect this way then clearly there’s something wrong with the company considering the amount of complaints on the forum about how the game’s hardly changed at all in the past year.
When one grows accustomed to receiving things one looses vision on what they have received.
As a consumer, telling someone that they should be thankful for the product they had received in return for what they had paid sounds as ridiculous as going to a restaurant, paying for terrible food, and them telling you that you should be grateful you got to eat at all.
No, it’s like going to a chinese buffet, paying the entry, eating for an hour and a half and then complaining that there’s only chinese food.

Ascended tier is the bridge between exotic and legendary. The materials reflect that.
If you don’t want it, then fine. It’s not needed.

What I’m gonna say has nothing to do with this discussion, but how do you not see yourself as a fanboi? I mean 2 accts and 44 alts that’s $340 worth of just plain old character slots. That in my mind is the definition of fanboi. This is coming from someone who has put over 2200 hours into the game.
“Fanboi” is not about how many characters I have or how much money I have spent on the game. I do that for me, I do that for my family and for my guild. That is how I play the game. I usually run most MMO’s with 3-4 accounts, often 2 and 3 boxing.
I believe “fanboi” describes an attitude/belief of “fanatic” support for the game/developer in a way that is not balanced.
Check my posts. I am not a fanboi.
I have an objective view of this game and the developers and have “called” them on things I believe are not being done in a way that makes sense for the entire playerbase.
I have problems with what appears to be a lack of marketing segmentation. (see threads on guild missions)
I have problems with quality, temporary content, etcetera.
13+ years of MMO play, decades as a Fortune 20 developer, and 56 years do not allow me to post absolute support for any game or its developer.
I’ve never been a fanboi of any game I’ve played, according to the definition of “fanatic” supporter.
-Hope that helps

This game better not go F2P… Why do you care about their revenue? As players all we should care about is the content
Imagine all the crazies that would flood this game if it was F2P… Sweet Jesus
well, what kind of craziness would bother you from an increase in playerbase?
For starters, trolls who deliberately start controversial threads because they get their jollies from conflict and argument.
This exact thread exists on every single non f2p MMO forum in existence, and generally pops up within the first week.
Nice try.
Look, I understand that you don’t want a reward, but just pick one of them and don’t use it. If you ever want to use it later, you can. Herpityderpity.
If all you do is invite the sheep/mice of the game,
“Constructive,” “objective,” and “non-troll,” do not equate to sheep or mice.
They do equate to important traits of a useful tester though.
Someone who is constructive and objective is, by definition, critical where criticism is merited.
YOU CAN’T IGNORE TESTERS ON BALANCE/ABUSE ISSUES and still call it “Testing”..
Of course you can, and probably should some or even most of the time, when dealing with volunteer (especially player) testers.
Balance and abuse issues are generally much more subjective than UI/graphics bugs and issues. Keeping those issues most subject to bias away from those most likely to be affected by bias is perfectly reasonable.

No, endgame did not get nerfed.
However, the propensity of players to completely flip their kitten and over-react to even incredibly minor nerfs continues unabated.
Why stop there!
Why not reward you with all lvl 80s for all your future alts when you get your first one?
Why not reward you all legendaries when you get you first one?
How about give you a full set of exotic gear for all alts?
Dungeon completion?
I suppose that will make you play the game more!

Hi everyone!
First, we would like to remind you all of the forum CoC – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/rules -. Please, whenever posting stick to what it says, as in this case, remember that it is not allowed to post trying to grab the attention of the Devs, Anet or any of its employees – as in, adding names or Anet to the thread title.
The moderation team is here for a reason, and if we see that some post does not comply with the forum CoC we have to remove it. Thanks for your understanding.
i dont think anyone is understanding the OP’s point,
he is referring to the skill that you compare with fellow challenge seekers, healthy competition likewise,
i do the same thing, if im friendly with someone and ive skyped them before ill teae them about something they dont have, its what makes you want to get unique items, it all links,
He is NOT refferring to going up to new players and laughing in theyre facing because they are still coming to terms with the game.
Read before commenting or you just look ignorant
Then he shouldn’t have lead with ‘go into LA and say you’re a good player’ and see what happens. Of course, you’re going to get jumped on. It’s not that people aren’t, or don’t want to be, aware that they are other, more skilled players than them in the game. It’s that they dont necessarily want it rubbed in their face. Only kittenholes do that, and walking into a town and announcing ’I’m a good player’ is going to precieved as exactly that.
Perhaps it was a bad example, but that’s precisely what I got from the initial post.
there’s no reason to be re-exploring the open world on an alt since it’s no fun
There’s also no reason to even log in at all.
The fastest way to earn in this game is to just to quit. Then you won’t waste time OR money on it.
Since you already hate playing the game, why stay?

I have 100% map completion on 2 characters, I like zone exploring. Your argument is invalid.
… there’s no reason to be re-exploring the open world on an alt since it’s no fun and zones are all dead.
This is where your entire post breaks down. The assumptions that every zone is dead and that no one could conceivably enjoy single player / small-scale multi player are wrong.
