This is just stupid, learderboards are supose to keep the game(Fractals) competitve, but this, is just an excuse to reset the player base to lvl 30.

"Excessive Messaging" cutoff is ridiculous

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I ran a small Halloween contest for my guild this month. This morning I judged the entries and set about mailing the prizes to the winners. After sending out TWO main prizes and getting a ‘not found’ message for the third, the mails I try and send out are ‘suppressed due to excessive messaging’. At this rate, getting the four main category prizes and the half-dozen or so participation prizes sent out to my guildmates is going to take forever.

Why is it I can’t send off more than two successful mails without getting hit with suppression while during the trial gold spammers could stand in LA and spam their gold-selling ads for hours under the same name, sometimes several times a minute, without being suppressed?

The flaw of Ascended Weapon Boxes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bright.9160

Bright.9160

First of all, I checked the first 3 pages, and didn’t find anything, if a topic about this is already up, please redirect me.

To the point: there is a huge flaw in the design of the Ascended Weapon boxes. I realize that Anet figured out from Fractals that having random weapons drop for you is undesirable and people didn’t like it.

Now they implemented a system where you can get an Ascended weapon box with fixed stats that make you pick your weapon. For example, you can get a Occam’s Weapon Box, which let’s you pick any Ascended weapon with Rabbid (or Carrion? I dunno, doesn’t matter) stats.

There lies a big flaw in this design though, which honestly is even bigger than having a random weapon drop of which you can pick the stats: if you get the wrong stats, the weapon is essentially more useless than any other weapon.

If I got a Cleric’s Ascended Box, I would literally never open it, because I have absolutely no use for a Cleric’s weapon. A blue lvl80 Berserker weapon is literally more useful to me than any Cleric’s Ascended weapon. The only reason I would use it is if they opened lvl50+ Fractals and I would need the AR, other than that, I wouldn’t even bother.

Which is why, to me at least, having random weapons of which you can pick the stats is a better design than a random stat of which you can use the weapon. Because, at least an undesirable weapon can still fill some function on some character, whereas an undesirable stat wouldn’t even be considered by me. An exotic of more desirable stats will ALWAYS be more useful than an ascended weapon with other stats.

I’m not asking for random weapons though, since that design also doesn’t work, but to me it would be better if they either implemented both systems, where you can get either of them, a random weapon with choosable stats, or a random stat with choosable weapons. Or have a token-like system where you can exchange some ascended token for a box of your choosing.

Zaoda: I’m sorry that other players have engaged in behavior that is, quite frankly, unacceptable in the Guild Wars 2 community. It is not okay to use anti-LGBT slurs or to engage in homophobic behavior against people in our community.

The Customer Support Team absolutely relies on player reports to take action on people who are breaking the in-game Rules of Conduct by using homophobic language against other users. Please report these toxic members of the community. If the CS Team doesn’t know about them, then they cannot investigate or take action. Every single report from the game client is reviewed by a human; it’s not an automated system. The main blocker to investigating and taking action on problem users is that no one is reporting them. I cannot stress enough that we need people to report disruptive and toxic users in order for the team to take action.

Additionally, for whispers, if it’s possible to provide a screen shot that shows the message and the sender’s information, the Customer Support team will find this useful.

Secondly, thank you for providing feedback about the in-game ignore functionality. If I understand your post correctly, what you’re looking for is to have the ignore function include map and team chat. Is there any other functionality you feel “Ignore” should have or that you feel is not working properly?

Everyone else: let’s please get this thread back on topic. If you’re not able to stay on topic without derailing the discussion to off-topic issues or by victim-blaming, this thread will be locked.

I just want to make it absolutely clear: we do not tolerate behavior that is abusive or derogatory towards anyone, including LGBT people. Abusing others in-game on the basis of sexual orientation is not acceptable, and there is no wiggle room here.

The amount of karma you can get depends on how many levels you are above the one you are palying. The equation from the guildwiki:

6400 + 8 * Completed difficulty * (Personal reward level – Completed difficulty) = Karma awarded

The (Personal reward level – Completed difficulty) factor is capped at 10.

Since one of the content designers is kindly reading the thread, can I put in a popular player request for the enchanters to always respawn after a party wipe in their original state. That would be always with 2 on each side. If the content provides the right challenge to start with then it should reset to that challenge. It should never reset to a harder challenge for the struggling groups who are least able to deal with it. This type of punishing design drives the struggling players out of dungeons completely and does nothing to increase the challenge for the players who don’t find it difficult enough.

Why Skin Wardrobe should be a high-priority

in Suggestions

Posted by: gibzy.7329

gibzy.7329

This is not as simple as you think. Yes, primarily, a skin wardrobe is a quality of life thing. But it can influence PvE a great deal in a way, you might not realize.

The following is how I see it implemented (this is just my vision, which can obviously be improved by smarter people than me)

Why it’s needed: Keeping armor/weapon skins in the bank is messy and very inconvenient. It’s also impossible, due to space limitations, and a high price of buying new tabs. That’s why we don’t see anybody collecting armor skins extensively. Also, GW2 has an appearence-based progression. As in skins. As in the end-game boils down to getting more skins. /nuff said

UI: A new window, with 5 tabs: Light Armor, Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Weapons and Costumes. In each tab should be a list of all of the available skins in game, corresponding to that tab. They should be organizable alphabetically by name, by type (chest, hands, axes, bows, etc.) and by set name (applicable only to armor and costumes tabs), and should be greyed out at first.

As a skin is added (unlocked) to your collection, it should be available to use by any character on your account. There should still be limitation on light classes not being able to wear heavy skins for example, but any class should be able to add any skin to their collection, so that their alt can use it.

The process of unlocking skins can be done in different ways. My proposition – use transmutation stones, as they are already in the game, and are currently not used at all. Make it cost a different amount of transmutation stones, depending on the rarity of the skin. And make the original item be destroyed as you add the skin, to prevent people buying items on TP to just get the skin and re-sell the item. Using the skin that you’ve already unlocked however should be free and infinitely available for any character on your account, as it’s done with the HoM rewards.

Good things this will do for A-NET bank account: People will start buying transmutation stones, and using them up. Plus, all of the following directly profits Arena.

Good things this will do for players: Provides a new type of goal, to collect all (or as many as possible) skins. You’ll be amazed how many ppl are obsessive completionists, just eager for a new check-list to fill. It will also allow for people to change their appearance more easily and frequently, meaning a more visually pleasant and varied mass of players, instead of everybody wearing CoF armor.

Good things this will do for PvE: Throw more people in different dungeons. Right now, everybody is running 1-2 most profitable/quick dungeons. This will urge people to collect tokens from different places, to get different and eventually all dungeon armor sets. This is especially important now, since with the introduction of Fractals, the normal dungeons are turning into ghost-towns (not that Ascalon).

Also, it will create a new use for karma, as currently, people are just banking it in hopes to get legendary weapons one day. Now they can use it to buy skins for karma

You can even go a step further, and add zone-specific skins that can drop only from mobs in a certain zone (make it zone-specific instead of mob type-specific, so to prevent farming hot-spots). Those drops should be soulbound, so that people can’t buy them on auction house, and should have a small (but not frustratingly so) drop rate. This will throw a huge wave of players to all of the zones of the game, if each of the zones has a unique-looking set that drops only in that zone. No more complains of the world being deserted.

Show your support for this topic, so that we can get some attention to it from the devs. I honestly believe it can be a great benefit to the game.

TL;DR
Skin wardrobe is good. Convenient way of keeping and organizing unlocked skins. A new goal at endgame – collect all skins. More people will do unpopular dungeons, and other areas of the game, if they can unlock a new skin out of it. Unlocking the skin should destroy the item, but make the skin permanently available and free to any character on account.

NEWS
Well, I have some good news for you, guys. It looks like ANet are aware of this issue, and are thinking about doing something very similar to what I suggested with this thread. In the recent interview Colin Johanson even mentions a wardrobe and how collecting skins should be supported. Here’s the link to the video with the timestamp on that question:

Fix Rewards, Time, Fun; Fractals of the Mist

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hamartia.3421

Hamartia.3421

STABILIZING DIFFICULTY, TIME, AND FUN!

Volcanic Fractal:

This Fractal is considered too hard by many players, and requires specific utilities that not every class offers.

Add a second type of mob that spawns when the Shaman enters its shield called Lavalings, similar to the gravelings from Ascalonian Catacombs. (Perhaps even have them spawn from burrows until these are destroyed, to give Elementalists’ Frost Bow some utility in Fractals.)

This mob will be a small, fast melee attacker that does less damage than the current Elemental spawn and inflicts burning. It has a higher chance of spawning the lower the Fractal level.

Whenever the Shaman enters its shield, you have a 33% chance of getting the Lavalings, the Elementals, or a mixture of both.

This change is intended to reduce the need for Guardians and Mesmers to complete this Fractal, as reflects will not be quite as useful. This also allows groups who wipe on this fight multiple times the chance to get a lucky roll where they get Lavalings multiple times in a row.
****
Dredge Fractal:

This is the Fractal that needs the most work. It is simply too long and tedious. It is not that it is necessarily super hard, but it adds an undue burden to players who wanted to do a Fractal run that didn’t consume an undue amount of their time.

To the left side of the initial starting puzzle, add a mini-jumping puzzle that allow players to skip the beginning puzzle as they were able to before the bug fix. Make this puzzle challenging enough that some groups will choose to do it the normal way.

Completely remove middle section with bombs and turrets. Completing the puzzle will move the players right on to the mid-boss.

End-boss health reduced by 25%.

Another important note is that the number of waves that spawn on the Dredge Midboss is simply insane. Perhaps there’s a glitch going on there, like with the Southsun Skelk. Nerf the amount of mobs that spawn by half, at least, on higher difficulties.

Cliffside Fractal:

Blowing wind and bomb stairs removed. This fractal simply takes too long and the jumping puzzles only end up being a layer of tediousness—having to sit there while two of your party members make their way up four different times. Alternatively, remove the very first boss encounter and simply allows players to start with the hammer. Perhaps both of these changes.

Tweak End-boss to be more interesting. It is a very lame fight. Perhaps consider adding Acolyte spawns with low health, but that can only be damaged by the hammer. One player, rotating, will be on hammer duty killing Acolytes/smashing the seal while the rest of the group handles the boss. Saving the hammer from the first fight would allow two players to kill Acolytes to make this go faster. In exchange, require players to both 1) Destroy the Seal, and 2) Kill the Boss.
****
All Other Fractals:

Mostly the other Fractals are far more even with one another in terms of time and difficulty. Some could still use tweaks, such as lower boss health in exchange for the boss hitting slightly harder. In fact, I think you could probably stand to make some of the other Fractals more challenging in exchange for these tweaks, as you have been doing recently with the changes to Snowblind, for example.

Jellyfish Beast could use an HP reduction. Perhaps lower its health by 25%, but add a high-damage low-health mob that attacks at 66% health and 33% health— this mob needs to be kited and DPSed down. Something to keep us awake.

Mini-bosses on Harpy Fractal also need an HP reduction.

Thanks for reading, please critique and provide feedback and additional suggestions!

Fix Rewards, Time, Fun; Fractals of the Mist

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Hamartia.3421

Hamartia.3421

Lately, PVE players have been getting upset about the lack of end-game options available to them. New content is ideal, but perhaps Fractals can be tweaked to be more fun and rewarding so that current players can continue to enjoy them, and so that future players can have more fun working towards their rings and back.

Let’s Fix Fractals of the Mist!
****
I am going to focus on 3 things.

1.) Improving the existing Rewards System

2.) Stabilizing the difficulty, time length, and FUN of various fractals.

3.) Taking into account the months of player feedback on specific fractals, bosses, and other issues.

THE REWARDS SYSTEM:

Currently, running Fractals is net loss in terms of Gold for almost everyone. Running COF p1 outpaces it immensely, and to be honest, solo farming Orr probably beats it too.

The obvious tweak is to improve loot, so I’m not going to get into that too much. I do believe that loot in general should be improved from boss chests, and that perhaps an additional item, perhaps a chance at a core or lodestone, should be added to the daily chest above 20, with improving odds of getting a lodestone the higher the level.

Here are some less obvious tweaks. I’m not suggesting that all of these be added, but some would certainly help.
****
Five Fixes for Fractal Rewards:

1.) From Fractal level 30 onward, the Fractal daily chest has the chance to contain Fine Infusions. These are the infusions that offer +5 stat, +5 agony resist. Very few players ever bother to obtain these due to their high cost, and giving us a way to obtain them would get more players seeking their +30 stats they can now obtain through ascended.

2.) From level 40 onward, infused rings have a chance to drop with the Fine Infusion that corresponds to their primary stat. Red Ring of Death drops with a Mighty Infusion, for example.

3.) New Mystic Forge Recipe: 1 Fractal Weapon, 1 Shard of Crystallized Mist Essence, 3 Globs of Condensed Mist Essence, 5 Vials of Condensed Mist Essence. Gives you a random Fractal weapon of any other type than the one originally placed in the mystic forge. Or, if this is hard to program, just random Fractal Weapon, so that we can re-roll until we get the one we want.

4.) Level 40+ has a rare chance to drop Ascended Amulets and Trinkets.

5.) All Ascended Gear, including Rings, will now count as Yellow Armor for Mystic forging Purposes. 3 Ascended Rings + one yellow weapon will be a viable mystic
forge recipe for gambling for exotics/precursors. Four ascended rings will get you back a yellow armor.

Server Match up is terrible

Next

The concept of tiers has little meaning at this point and you should try to stop thinking of matchups in those terms. Servers are matched up by proximity of rating, not proximity of “tier”. If the tiers have ratings that are within the range of the random adjustment, they can end up fighting each other. This is going to result in blowouts, no doubt about it. However, we are not going to make changes to this after just 2 weeks of the system. There are things we can do. We will almost certainly end up adjusting the total added to each server rating to group the matchups a little more closely. First however, we need to let the ratings adjust by having more varied matchups like these. If you look at EU, which is using the exact same system, you can see matchups with numerous surprising results. The same will likely be true by the end of the NA matchup.

TL;DR: We are going to wait at least a couple more weeks before changing any of the math behind the new system, but it is very likely we’ll decrease the size of the variation at some point.

Over in the Black Lion Trading discussion forum, some players noticed the change in ecto salvage rates from .9 to .5 , after a patch.

After a few messages, John Smith spoke up, saying that he would look into it.

Now, roughly 24 hours later, there is a patch issued to correct the error.

replace listing fee on the TP

in Suggestions

mercury ranique.2170

== Problem ==
This topic got me thinking:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Selling-a-Precursor-The-Hunter

It shows in my opinion that the current system of the listing fee on the trade post is broken when it is limiting poor people to make money.

The listing fee is an amount of money you have to pay to list items on the trade post. This is done to prevent people to make bogus trades or use the TP as storage. (put an item on the TP for 10 times the normal price so it is out of your inventory and you cant pick it up later)

The amount is 5% of the value. if you for example get the precursor dawn you can make a lot of profit on the market. Currently it sells for 515 gold. The listing fee however is 5%. So you actually need 25g75s to be able to sell it. This is for many people a steep price. Besides the listing fee you also have a tax (10%).

Both the listing fee as the tax have the function as a goldpit. Every MMO need several goldpits to keep the game economy from inflation and its actually a good thing. Still it should always be possible for poor players who got lucky to sell on the market what they want to sell for the price that it is worth.

== Suggestions ==
1: Remove the listing fee of 5%
2: Raise the tax to 15%
3: Add a penalty to the removal option of 5%. If you want to take an item your selling off the market you have to pay 5% of the price you where asking.
4: Add a warning if you put something up thats worth more then 20 times what you currently have saying something like: ’ Listing this item means that you can’t remove it again from the market with your current funding. The remove penalty is (insert amount of money). Are you sure you want to continue?? Yes – No.’

== Effects==
This suggestion doesn’t really change anything. You still have the money sink, you still can’t use the trade post as a free storage, but it does allow poor people to make a profit if they have a lucky drop

Requesting WvW status update

in WvW

Posted by: ViperWire.4261

ViperWire.4261

It seems very odd there have not been any moderator posts in the past few days/week to touch on some more details of the WvW update. I would figure if Anet wanted to have a truly successful WvW “makeover” they would have to keep open communication with the community that plays WvW 24/7.

So this is that opportunity since most players do NOT use GW2 twitter or if there are any other social sites that Anet prefers to use instead of their own official domain.

(No quoting/posting updates/status from a month ago, that would just make you look silly to say the least)

What baseline can we expect, this is a very simple question that should be able to receive a really simple or even detailed response that might be similar to a table of contents. Granted Anet will say “We cannot tell you what we will do because even we do not know until the last minute”. Which is true somewhat, but mostly that is used to make it seem like they have no idea what CORE elements of WvW will be addressed.

For example: (Anet, you can list with bullets what main issues you would like to address

  • Culling
  • WvW reward
  • Badges of honor reward
  • Dynamic event credit reward
  • Dolyak guard npcs not efficient/effective
  • Siege blueprints being soulbound but still able to transfer between characters (seems like 2 people in the same department disagreed on this solution which is why we can trade the blueprints by dropping them but yet they are “soulbound”)
  • Bigger or new map(s)
  • Rework npcs such as Grub/Champion Tree/Mosquito event/Quaggan/Temple
  • The water in the Borderlands that every single person hates
  • Is the “glitch” where the waypoint is available for 1-3 seconds after Repel Enemies event going to be “resolved” with this patch or is that still a method we can use to reinforce falling Keeps
  • Is Outmanned buff going to receive an update? We all know how pointless that buff is and HAVE known since release of this game 5months+ ago
  • Will Orbs come back? If not what are we doing to replace them? WvW has become even more stale since the removal
  • ADD THE OPTION IN REPORT FOR HACKING/EXPLOITING PLEASE
  • Resolve current queue issues that have recently been reported but have not been addressed recently
  • Current WvW titles are far out of the limit of many if not everyone who plays GW2, all kittentalk aside nobody can rack up one of those titles in 6 months – 1 year unless 24/7 focused on that single title
  • Guild claiming currently has no purpose unless to activate guild buffs when under attack, why can we not see who claimed the location and or have additional options upon claiming a Keep/Tower/Camp
  • Additional rewarded loot for killing enemy commanders (and/or higher loot table)
  • Invulnerable zones/anti camping zones that reach into supply camps in the Borderlands (These are not a big issue by any means, but lots of people are ….. and believe this is hacking/exploiting and I’m sure that’s racking up the bug reports/paperwork, would be efficient to remove so that frees up time for whomever has to read all those support tickets)
  • Address siege locations that “cannot be countered”, remove or maybe even add more
  • More high ground/cliffs everywhere, Borderlands and Eternal
  • Incentives for WvW both for guilds and for players (The virtual score that may or may not get reset has no bearing on if my guild is in WvW, rather if we feel like doing pvp together we go into WvW, which is always . But we are not an entire server and at many times servers lose even when there is enough active population, but not enough actually in WvW due to score and/or seeing a map 100% another color or the fact that there have been literally no incentives to WvW (other than PvE world bonus maybe? I personally don’t believe anyone has seriously considered those that valuable enough for PvE players to get into WvW.

Without incentives this has created a catch 22 where if a server loses, morale drops, participation drops, server’s ranking drops, server drops whole tiers, people transfer, dead server until massive alliance comes and makes active again. Granted with paid transfers, not every situation will immediately result in transfer, but with weeks of terrible participation in WvW combined with constantly losing, players will either leave Guild Wars 2 (which many have) or they will just leave WvW (which far too many have)

(Again please no quoting from 1 month ago or even 2 weeks ago; issues like culling and queue and maybe a few others require constant update as those ARE game breaking, but this thread is not to agree/disagree on these topics as much as it is to help Anet create their own “table of contents” of what they KNOW will be updated)

Nothing wrong with condition dmg on guardian. Just keep binding blade (5) on them, have eoung burns for upkeep in your build, and keep the mobs in your symbol (4). Added up that can tick for 1k easily. Given you are lvl80 ofc.

You will never feel like you are doing good damage in dungeons, everything has TONS of health.
Purging Flames and Bow of Truth should be dropped; they are mainly for condition removal, which is not a problem in dungeons.

Condition damage is not a viable stat for guardian in general—guardians will get the bulk of their damage from basic auto attacks, and you should plan accordingly.

If you find you are generating a lot of aggro in dungeons (has something to do with armor values), use blinds, blocks, and healing to mitigate damage. Greatsword has a great blind, and virtue of justice can be traited to blind. This is often not enough for some mobs, where you need to dodge or strafe out of everything they do, no matter what your build is.

In general, the glassier you go, the more you will have to rely on block/blind/evade/dodge to keep yourself alive. This does not always go well in dungeons because fights last a very long time, so it is not advised to go full offensive gear.
