Well if you fix the dungeons first then you’ll be alright. I have no problem with taking away the rez-rushing in that case. Seriously since day 1 your dungeons have been terrible. It has not been about team work. Its about being as far away as possible and never stop kiting unless you can hit immune for a few a seconds.
Basic truth of balance, random mobs should never one shot anyone.
And a side note. CM. I’m a hero of the land…. And I’m afraid of a dog howling? Really? This world is doomed. Dragons win.
There are times when the designers are from a different planet, or might not really be in touch with the game they designed. I’ve played many MMOs and GW2 dungeons are the most out-of-sync of any game I’ve ever played. They are nowhere near the level noted for the quest, not even close. I don’t mind “hard”, in fact, I enjoy the challenge…but the dungeons are so unbalanced, they are not really fun to do. This new change is quite frankly, following right in the footsteps of equally insidious designs. In most fights, it is also virtually impossible to rez anyone due to how long it takes (another mentioned that in their post), and the amount of AoE damage spewed forth by the encounter. I can only think that the game designers are thinking of some other game than the one we have to play, or are just flat out of touch. Tis a sad day in MMOville due to that.
level scaling is one of the best features of the game. if you remove it you will have a totally different game and basically will have to design everything else from the ground up
Orr is just fine unless all you want to do is Farm Nod’s all day and frankly thats not what Orr is about.
Maybe all of you complainers could group up and kick the crap out of orr.
IMHO, what killed Orr, and pretty near everything else, was FotM. Ever since Anet introduced Fractuals the other zones and dungeons are to all intents and purposes, dead.
That was, IMHO, a bad move in a MMO that was only a few months old. There was no need for it at that time, it should’ve been introduced much later if at all since there was (and is) still plenty to do besides fractuals.
I will forgive them for everything ever ever ever if they just make one change. I won’t even care if they don’t add anymore content like they said they would.
- Players receive level appropriate drops at all times. Downscaling has been fixed to where mobs are challenging no matter how far a player is downscaled, and mob AI has been updated so that lower level mobs will use more advanced tactics and abilities on downscaled players.
It’s about time they kept their promise about every zone being an end-game zone, that was one of the principal things that attracted me to GW2, and so far it’s been patently false. You don’t have to be more than 20 levels ahead of an area before you can 1-2 shot nearly every mob in it.

It’s great how food it like 3-4 times as effective as a complete set of Superior Runes.
Im curious what all of the pro-raid folks thought the end game would be when they purchased GW2. Or did you think you could eventually influence Arenanet to cater to your needs(the progression-style endgame that most of the MMO community likes)?
Whether or not arenanet always had plans to put in ascended gear(which they did), theres your progression via fractals. This already PO’d so many people. Isnt this enough for you guys?
I hate seeing this stuff in threads related to GW2.
It’s as bad as people crying for mounts.
Raids aren’t needed.
Instances have virtually nothing to do with a game being MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER.
You want raids, there are plenty of games that already provide you with sticks to scratch that itch.
Please do not continue trying to turn GW2 into something it shouldn’t be. You’ve already had your way with Ascended Gear.
Oh and as for the massive open-world meta events being easy and uncoordinated messes, yeah, that’s why Cathedral of Eternal Radiance is never contested. Oh, wait.
More stuff like this please.
No raid content thanks.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.

actually, as a somewhat casual player (just starting curaed shore on my first toon), i was reading the forums and seeing this or that complaint…
Orr being among them, as “too difficult”.
Gosh, im already more than halfway thru it and seriously.. no problem there.
is it a bit harder than other zones? yes.
but lol at people saying it needs a nerf…really some people must come from some other mmo for kids even younger than target kids for gw2.
anyway.
the grind in this game is; legendary and ascended backpack.
thats it.
and by the time you get there….
i mean, i am already having a tuff time getting myself geared up with exotics armors and 3-4 weapon sets + trinkets.
and 1-2 sets of runes.
gosh.
As a personal opinion, from a newbish player…
I have a fresh 80 necro (my very first lvl 80), with pretty bad gear (green mostly, my only serious exotics are weapons I bought). I haven’t touched Cursed Shore yet but have 100% Straits and around 85% Malchor’s done. I don’t have a guild and I’m mostly running solo or joining random flash mobs.
I believe the zones in general are fine.
From what I observed during my stay in Orr it seems lots of people run into problems because they’re not paying attention and simply run ahead like headless chickens, or try to avoid killing anything and just run past mobs (really, what’s with the “no violence” attitude?), or have no patience and bang their heads against impossible odds instead of asking for help on mapchat (while there are hardly enough people for major events, I have yet to see a truly “dead” Orr zone, you don’t need an army for POI’s or skill challenges). Yes, there are areas that could use some tuning, and having every stupid risen farmer with knockdown/stun moves IS somewhat over the top, but TBH, it’s not nearly as bad as reading this forums led me to believe. I can easily imagine that with more people the zones would be way more fun, I really hope they give more reason for people to hang around there instead of Fractals.
I agree though that minor, WP specific events should stay “done” way longer; as it is now, there should be at least a couple players camping at every uncontested WP just to keep it open for more than 5 minutes, it’s fairly ridiculous.
its funny for as long as I’ve played MMO’s (long time) the folk as you say who are rich in time ( students, unemployed etc) have been the kings of MMO’s. with the subscription model it was largely irrelevant how much time you played each month to the game, as you all payed the same sub.
So in effect the rich in time folk were free to lord it over those of us who are not so rich in terms of spare time to sink into a pastime. ( or even turn it into a virtual job)
One consequence of this was the growing hostility from the Rich in time (hardcore) towards the casual gamers who reacted with utter contempt when the devs would be seen to make any adjustment that would negate their supremacy over the casuals. For example by nerfing a massive time sink (grind) for a certain item .
now the whole dynamic has changed, The market has realised that those with plenty money are willing to pay in order to nerf the massive timesinks themselves and this should be harvested.
after all If I was very wealthy I would pay someone to do the jobs I dislike wasting my time on IRL thus leaving me more free time to enjoy something fun. (for example hiring a house cleaner )
now the market has decided it’s better to cater to the folk with money rather than serve the folk with nothing but spare time.
now where this becomes bad is where they essentially price folk out of the game. where they keep shoving things into folks faces that are highly desirable but very expensive either in terms of time or cash.
when EQ2 went free they offered heaps of very cool armours (cosmetic) for reasonable prices and i bought a few but never felt i was being gouged, I also spent money on mounts for low level toons etc. one off deals. I had no issue spending money like tht.
conversely the F2P release of SWTOR has me uninstalling in 5 mins due to them instantly trying to gouge me simply to unlock all the parts of my UI setup I had used while subscribing.
This game has open raids which folks refuse to even attempt to figure out. There are 1500+ DEs which are open world raids.
Have you made any attempt to solve these? Especially in Orr?
Game Director
We’ll be releasing more information on our blog in the next couple weeks that details our plans for first half of 2013, including more details on the kind of stories and features you’ll see in the January, February and March releases.
you guys created one of the most detailed and beautiful worlds out there..and yet you are intentionally pulling people from it and pushing them into dungeons.
really..wtf?
Its all about exploration. Please implement RANDOM DE’s that spawn spontaneously and reward you with unique components for crafted gear.
Things like dragon events that happen in random places that occur after someone does a jumping puzzle at the right time of day and activates an item that has a 5-10 minute spawn window.
Start implementing things like this all over the map. This is the only thing that will save this game at this point…not fractals
I’m not going too expect anything otherwise I might get dissapointed. Im just going too be happy with anything we’re getting.
Personally I’m still having a blast and I have been here since beta, there is tons to do other than the idiodic gear grind that WoW is so infamous for, the community is excellent now since most of the D-bag GW2 Zealots have left, it’s one of the most mature and friendly communities I have ever seen.
You don’t need a spreadsheet or even a wiki to play the game and have fun, you’re character is viable even if it’s not the “right build.” Basement dwellers whine how causal it is, but to me it’s accessible fun and that is why myself and a couple million more people enjoy this game.
This game is extremely frustrating for me because, like many, I bought into the whole “GW2 takes everything you love about GW1 and puts it into a persistent world” part of the manifesto.
If they put up a survey asking players what the best and most loved features of GW1 were…I think they would find that almost -none- of them are in GW2. Either because they just aren’t implemented or because they have been blatently thrown out the window.
Don’t get me wrong, GW2 is absolutely brilliant in a lot of ways. But in the areas it falls short…it -really- falls short. And possibly unrepairably short (looking at you gem shop).

If you want an example of everyone else’s level I have solo completed all 3 Orr maps on ele, mesmer, necro, warr, guard and thief so far and it really hasnt been that hard. If you pay attention and learn what all the mobs can do, you should have no difficulty. Every risen type in Orr has glaring drawbacks to their most dangerous moves that can easily be exploited.
I didn’t want to have to be the one to say l2p but really, this is world pve, the easiest part of the game. Stop whining when you die and try to figure out what you could have done to not die.
I, for one, don’t like the “every man for himself” attitude a lot of you people have (in-game, as well as IRL). Too many people go around taking advantage of other people (and other peoples’ trust and good nature), which just creates more pain and suffering, and makes life a little less worth living for everyone else. It also makes the world a more hostile place to live, and perpetuates more suspicion and paranoia.
Have a little compassion. There is something to be said for being a good person and loving one another. And I’m sure most of you don’t need me to tell you about right from wrong… Perhaps instead of going around trying to harm others to gain something for yourself, you could perform random acts of kindness.
And to the OP, I’m really sorry that happened to you. I’ve personally lost my trust in humanity years ago, and it makes me sad to see the same thing happening to you. My advice to you is, don’t let this experience sour you too much about interacting with others (although it may be a good idea to stay vigilant to prevent being scammed in the future). And don’t become one of those people that say “well, someone did something bad to me, so I’m going to start doing bad things to other people if it could be advantageous to me”. Just continue being kind to others and hope that in some way it comes back to you.
Anyway, just my 2c.

I think Guild Wars has a lot of tactical options available, the game just isn’t necessarily challenging enough that its’ required to know about them. Dungeons aren’t difficult enough that you really need developed team co-operation to succeed. PVP is generally more of where that is going to be developed and take place, and we can already see it happening with its’ evolving meta-game. PVE, as per usual, is mostly designed around casual gameplay, and probably won’t ever get too terribly challenging as it would turn off a large percentage of players.
Everyone likes to play Sims and decorate houses. It will be implemented very soon with brand new furniture available at BLTC costing very affordable prices in gems.
Where did you get this information from?

I’ve been playing MMOs for, what, ten years now? And I’ve been reading casual/hardcore threads for ten years.
Look, there’s no point in pleasing casual players because they’re not committed to the game, might leave at any momnet, and in any case they just want to get all the epic rewards without actually having to acquire skills or finish content.
And, honestly, hardcore players are just terrible, terrible people, and they’re lucky that they’re barely tolerated to play this game instead of being put in jail, where they can whine about how lenient parole systems are ruining the challenge of the custodial experience.
It may be that Arenanet are secretly breeding magical loot pixies that will shower tolerance dust over both casual and hardcore alike and bring about a new golden age where everyone is happy. That is possible.
But more likely you should just accept that this is a basically insoluble problem of MMO design, that casuals keep playing MMOs despite whining about not being catered to, that hardcores keep playing MMOs despite whining about not being catered to, and that the world goes on turning and we’re all having fun regardless.
SWG’s November 15th patch didn’t make that list? Really?
No, no second chance. I promise ANet they will never again see a dime from me.
Who knows, some of these guys may have a good second career as a word contortionist.
Carefully worded Manifesto so they can never be held accountable to strict horizontal progression is deceptive as far as I’m concerned.
I bailed from WOW to avoid this garbage, there is no way that I’m paying anything to do it here.
