[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

I loved the trinity in other games myself. But I don`t think you can really blame its system more then you can blame the devs from past games limiting the way it was handled. Nobody wanted to play a healer class because only a certain kind of person enjoys that style of play and they were few and far between. They could have made the healer class more fun to play so it would appeal to more people but most games never did. So I don`t think the trinity was bad idea but the devs in past games never made you want to play a healer or a tank. And the investment required to be a good one limited what you could do outside your main role a lot.

Runes of magic had a really nice cross class system. I was a knight cleric and I could switch my primary to either to get the benefits of the class. I could go knight/cleric and tank in dungeons or I could go cleric/knight and main heal in dungeons. Each primary had its own gear set that was saved so you didn’t have to carry extra gear or juggle it around. Was probably one the best class systems in any game I ever played. They could have done something simaler here or had certain trait lines more dedicated to certain roles then they do now.

I do know from experience that the every man for himself type games do give the instant satisfaction faster then the trinity based games. But in the longrun the trinity type games rewards feel more gratifying.

This is what I know about the trinity:
tanks: spam taunt skills, put something heavy on the key mapped to that skill
healers: spam heal skills, put something heavy on the key mapped to that skill
dps; dps rotation

what do people like it so much?

…Actually requires you to know your role?
…Whole team relies on you?
…If you fail, everyone fails?
Challenge? Coordination? Team work?

If UWsc was so easy as people claim it to be – why did exp teams require you to show Stones to enter? Why did most random pug teams fail? Why were pug teams slow?

DPS over everything else. Personally I find it extremely shallow.
PvE requires no healing and close to no support, only massive DPS.
I’d love to see content that actually makes it rewarding to play as a full cleric guardian, support ele, ranger or engineer, which doesn’t doesn’t slow down your team.

I miss risk, I miss failing, I miss team work, I miss coordination.
I hate – 1 1 1 1 1 1 . Combat may be more active but sure as hell is not anything special.

Its been a year of GW2.

so Forget all the pre-release hype
and all the pre-release hopes for how you wanted the game to have turned out.

We are talking about the here and now.

How does Anet feel about the Trinity now that you have experienced how the Trinity-less system would turn out in the long run with players?

Have your view that ,“the Trinity is bad”, changed?

Because before release, the Anet staff made a huge push for shaming the trinity in any way possible. and many of those reasons of shame turned out to happen in the non trinity as well, which is what makes me question how Anet feels on the trinity now that they see this for themselves.

for one of the excuses against the trinity was the efforts of getting a group together. but even in the trinity-less system, we see that the difficulty of forming a group in MMOs wasn’t a trinity issue, but another totally different unrelated issue to begin with, which lead to the LFG tool being added.

So Anet I ask, how do you now feel about the trinity after seeing what happens in the Non-trinity for over a year?

Please fix the human female left leg.

The human female left leg is beyond broken at this point in terms of anatomy. With some foot gear you can clearly see how bad this is visually. I have 2 examples and they both show the problem pretty well. Most of the leg, the thigh knee and most if not all of the shin is pointing inwards while the foot is pointing out. It is also clear since the right foot is straight up and down and since the human ankle in real life doesnt really move in a way to make the foot point out i think either it needs to follow with the rest of the leg and point in, or adjust the rest of the leg to fit with the foot.

The first screenshot showing the shin and ankle in the starting cloth boots. I chose these boots because it has a clear line down the shin and suggests where the center of the foot should be.

If you don’t think necromancer’s are wildly powerful in WvW then you seriously don’t know the class. I’m surprised to even read that.

I’ll happily stay with my necro. I find the playstyle much more fun than most other classes, and it fits my playstyle very well.

Oh lawd. Necromancers are in a strong state in WvW and PvP. They can still condi bomb someone to death and wells are a great WvW tool.

OP: you want to play an ele? Prepare to feel like an idiot compared to the necromancer, unless it’s for zergs.

Necros keep whining and I agree you have some issues, mainly mobility but you’re FAR, FAR from the worst class in the game.

I’m a PvE player. I don’t know how Necros do in PvP areas of the game, and I really don’t care. Balancing patches that are focused on PvP have really hurt Necros in PvE. You may have valid points about the PvP side of things, but those things don’t matter to me. In the area of the game that I play, Necromancers suffer greatly.

The profession as a whole is neglected by the devs. The only attention Necros get is PvP balancing to make sure Necros aren’t overpowering the other professions in that environment. Perhaps because Necros do well in those environments, the devs feel that there is no need to give attention to Necros in PvE, which has resulted in the profession’s steady decline over the past several months.

Why crafting is so unpopular.

in Crafting

I don’t get why anet still tries to get attention to crafting through ascended, because it is probably one of the most useless parts of the game. Here’s what is wrong with the crafting system:

- It’s cheaper to just buy any items from the trading post than craft those items yourself.
- You don’t earn any benefit from crafting things yourself: you don’t make profit, you don’t get ‘special’ items from chance discoveries etc.
- Materials cost so much that it makes crafting nothing but a huge loss of money.

What should be done about crafting:
- Make it useful: have a chance at crafting a precursor or other special item or getting materials back. Allow us to make extraordinary items that have a use and that are exclusive, yet not necessary (contra ascended crafting, because it costs way too much money).
- Make crafting profitable. I don’t know how it is, but a crafter actually looses money. In any other game I have ever played, the items you made through crafting were more valuable than the raw materials. The only way to achieve this at this point seems to be to nerf material prices and make craftable items equal price as drops.

A problem I think here is that crafting involves making items from 1-80 and most players just buy cheaper versions on the trading post that were dropped from a random mob. Not to mention that nobody actually buys a lot of armour from 1-80 (or buys karma gear from a merchant), basically because the gear is worthless anyways: after 5 levels it becomes redundant. This is basically a problem with the leveling system. Crafting should have been a matter of skills/usage not of stats and levels.

Hi everyone,

During the last few weeks, there have been a lot of discussions about YouTube and the hot topic lately has been policies about posting to YouTube video content that contains videogame assets. This situation is continuing to develop and we’ll be monitoring YouTube changes, but we’d like to provide some clarification on the matter of our policies.

To use assets (e.g., screenshots, footage) from our games, any content creator needs to comply with the Guild Wars 2 Terms of Use that are detailed here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-content-terms-of-use/. These rules are pretty explicit and haven’t changed since we put them together. They define what content ArenaNet considers out of line. Content creators are not permitted to use our assets to create a commercial product and use of our assets for non-commercial purposes is permitted. Monetizing a fan-created Guild Wars 2 video on YouTube via its partner program is generally not against these Content Terms of Use, just as serving advertising (Google Ads, for instance) on a fansite is not against the Content Terms of Use.

We actually support people sharing their experiences with our game, such as Let’s Play, guides, reviews, or other types of fan videos on YouTube. We generally do not take any action against YouTube videos using our game assets. We will investigate what’s happening with the PlayNC claims. You can contact us at community@arena.net if you have further questions. We’re also going to start reviewing our policies to make sure they’re clear on where we stand regarding content creation. Keep in mind that this will take quite some time since it involves legal reviews.

Thanks a lot for supporting the Guild Wars 2 community by creating awesome content to show your experiences with the game!

Players with full ascended armor already?

Calae.1738

That is only one more proof, that if the timegating was supposed to slow down hardcores compared to casuals, it failed badly and is, in fact, having exactly opposite effect.

Designing content for hardcore players works better with difficult and punishing content. The back lash that the casuals caused surrounding Liadri was quite evident.

It’s the casuals they want to slow down, not the hardcores.

So can someone actually tank or heal?

MorceluLebeau.5109

That’s sad. looks like I’ll stick to WoW and Rift because I can’t stand the inability to not heal or tank when someone is going down. It’s to much of a zerg mentality of just throwing damage at something with no real mechanics for me to have any fun. Tha and I’m still upset about Anet just blatantly lieing on their manifesto and making the game have that vertical progression (remember now when I left, it was after that November patch.

So, I’ve been gone for god knows how long because I couldn’t stand the zerg mentality and the all dps run around like a chicken with your head cut off game play. So I left for games where I could be a true tank or true healer once again. Now I am wondering can one be either of those things in this game yet or is it still be like a DPS with it’s head cut off routine that really just seems like a giant cluster-@%#$?

1. Ascended armor gives 60 Defense (for heavy, less than that for medium light), +14 on major, +11 on minor stats (or +1% on crit) over exotic.
1a. Therefore stat gain is so insignificant from armor.
1b. You survive like 0.02 seconds longer and deal like +20 more damage to an average enemy out of like 5,000 with exotic
1c. You can do fine with ascended trinkets and exotic weapons/armor
1d. The argument that : vs some unknown enemy in WvW with full ascended in irrelevant and invalid. You don’t know if your enemy has full ascended. Such “what if” question is irrelevant. To assume in a zerg of 30 vs 30, that everyone in your zerg is exotic and everyone in their zerg is ascended is stupid. To assume that there is such an even number of people 30 vs 30 is also irrational.
1e. Therefore ascended armor is irrelevant in WvW.
Hence
2. You don’t need to have ascended armor for any “casual” contents. (Fractal 40
is not for casual, even if you want to do it efficiently just use ascended trinkets to have enough AR)
3. You mention you have a full time job. You may earn 30-50k a year. Pay 100$ for 8000 gems = 450g, and you have more than enough gold for two sets of ascended armor/weapons if you must. I’m not saying you have to, it’s just an option.
4. There is no such thing as free lunch. You can’t just say I want x,y,z and Kaboom avadakabra and you have it.
5. The cost is determined, everyone has to pay xxx gold for the set, you are not exempted.
5b. You can farm for it like everyone does, play the TP for gold, or pay for gold.
5c. There is an opportunity cost in everything. If you are not willing to do what it’s needed to obtain the set, you won’t have it.
5d. The people that farm all days to get the ascended stuff would lose out in life and other things, so in a way you’re even.

Ground Targeting? REALLY?! What is the freaking point?!

I don’t understand the reasoning behind it, I really don’t. It was a useless buff to an already useful skill, why make it stronger?
You can now use it with focus and staff. I understand that.

What I don’t understand-
But what about Arcane Blast?
Why not buff Arcane Blast and leave Arcane Wave the same?!

Why buff a skill already used a lot and not one that is almost never used?

There are 3 VERY viable solutions to this. That won’t kitten any players off.

  • Get rid of the Ground Targeting on Arcane Wave, give Arcane Blast a BLAST finisher.
  • Add ground targeting to a trait like Arcane Retribution.
Arcane Retribution: Gain Arcane Power when your health drops below the threshold. Arcane Wave now uses ground targeting.
  • Make Arcane Brilliance ground targeting and Arcane Wave not.

Have you looked at the actual stat differences? Ascended Armor might as well be cosmetic – two of the pieces give a total of 6 extra stat points. Two give a total of 9.

There is very, very little reason to chase after them unless you like the looks or literally have nothing better to do with hundreds of gold.

No need to rush. REALLY.

OP, I know you mentioned fractals and agony, but what we are actually witnessing are simply the effects of power creep and vertical progression. Imagine someone with all the professions at 80. Vertical progression, at least as this one is implemented, becomes impossible. What’s worse, is that you are actually grinding for nothing. You grind and get more powerful (or more damage resistant) and everyone else grinds and gets more powerful. Meanwhile, to keep the game from becoming trivial, the environment becomes more powerful. There is no relative difference between you and other players or you and the environment in terms of the before state and the after state. You’ve gone nowhere and that’s why they call it a treadmill; you get on and off at the same place.

Flamekissed Armor Skin

Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.

Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.

We will do a few things to address this issue.

  • We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
  • Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
  • We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
  • Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
  • When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.

Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.

Thank you everyone for providing your feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know how you feel about the new armor set.
