Hey, lets give it another shot

I used to be really into GW2 and as a GW1 player I was willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt and explain away the first year as a “testing period” and “catch up” since we all know they had to release it earlier than scheduled release. I was a bit blinded by optimism and then work caught up with me and I had to take a break.

After coming back I expected to be…I guess I expected to enjoy it the same way, but now all I see are flaws. I want to adore this game, I really do, but I feel like they’re misappropriating their talent.

Don’t get me wrong, I suppose it’s just things I expected to see by now.

1-2 new weapons for each class
Some new skills (not just a storyline heal and class specific heal)
Precursor treasure hunt (more preferably a storyline quest for a soulbound one)
More “hardcore” 1-5man content
Player Housing
Class wide rebalancing

simply no. Those who noticed me around here know me as someone who criticized GW2 a lot in various aspects, yet defended the game against a lot of attacks, most of them unreasonable in my eyes. So spare me both that “fanboy” and “hater” thing.

The moment I picked up a new mmorpg I realized just how bad GW2 is. Which happens often once you escape the “oh, I have spent so much time there, cannot waste that”-trap. Just a few points;

a) rewards: yeah, I know, just play for the fun of it. Thing is, noone plays computer games like that. You play single player games to see the story unfold, to see that next level, for competition, etc. MMORPG are theoretically endless endeavours. And loot is part of the equation. In the end, it does not matter whether I attack Scarlet or some crab in Caledon Forest, the game mechanics aren´t that different. The "ahs " and “ohs” of being rewarded count in mmorpg – and anet is ridicously bad at delivering that. DR, play how devs want, you name it.

b) combat and builds: combat sucks, builds suck – I cannot deliver that more nuanced after having experienced a better game. Characters are different only in low percentages. Sure, half a second more of blind, an additional burn. In “that other recent game”, I build a skill deck like this: “oh, if I can remove some interrupt resistance from a boss with that skill, I can then add a freeze lockdown, port behind him and unleash my full barrage empty all clips skill” – or something completely different.

c) that casual thing: I´ll be honest – I hate casual players invading mmorpg, not that this is a secret if you followed my posts in the past. BUT GW2 is not casual friendly. It tantalizes all kinds of players, casuals probably even more so. You scrounge and scrounge and scrounge. There is no cool thing to find, no improving your character. In those “hardcore” games, well, you maybe won´t ever get that raid loot as a casual, but who cares? Some great drop from some more difficult mob, some dungeon played with your friends at your own pace, fun. GW2 sucks all excitement and fun out of gaming, for you casuals and for “hardcore gamers”.

Seriously, find another game, you will be relieved. Yes, that applies to you “casuals” too.

Ancestral Outfit and outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

With the introduction of the new Ancestral Outfit (that I haven’t got and probably won’t get) the problem of Outfit management is more present than ever.

On most of the races it looks good, but me, and other users on the forum, don’t like that it can’t be mixed with other armor pieces.

Now this brings the old problem alive. Some users here are happy with the new Outfit system, but it is indeed a step back.
While we can use outfits in combat now, we can’t mix them with other armor pieces or manage the single pieces. We can’t even mix different outfits together.
Personally, I don’t see what’s the problem in making it usable in combat, but selectable in its individual parts.

Now this problem may not seem a problem at all to some, or may not look urgent to others, but this is just an outfit, and many others will come, and this matter will surely arise again until it will be solved.

I usually try to see things in a positive light, especially with new releases, but I’m rather baffled here. Right now I’m in an instance where we’re killing Boom Boom and we still have 5 bosses to go. I’ve watched the past 15 minutes go by with her health dropping about 20% total, between her healing and just have waaaay too much HP.

I don’t know what the intention is behind Boss Blitz, but it surely isn’t having fun. For now I’m autoattacking while playing on my phone.

BloodFallsSilent.1703

The other day, while I was sitting out of wvw (the only thing I like doing anymore in gw2) after a transfer, unable to actually play anything other than eotm, I thought about getting a new game. Maybe go back to WoW, maybe try some D3, oh, I know, Wildstar. I’ve heard a lot about Wildstar. I go to pre-purchase it, but it’s an NCSoft game. Right there beside gw2. People tell me NCSoft is just the distributor, but after the “experience” of feeling ignored for two years in gw2, instead of pre-ordering like I do just about every other game that comes out, I hesitated. Did I really want to give money to people related to this? Did I really want to set myself up for another game of “Well I’ve put 1000 hours into this so I might as well stick with it?”. And the answer was “No”. No I do not feel like getting mired into another unrewarding gaming experience that sees my wallet like it has a bullseye painted on it. The only devs I’ve ever not bought games from based on past reputation are Peter Molyneux and EA, if that gives you any indication of how low my opinion is at this point, but just being associated with ANet now is enough to make me put my credit cards away and move on.

I know people are going to point out that I got my money’s worth from gw2. Fair enough, I certainly did. But it’s not 2012 anymore, and we’re still playing 2012’s mmo. That’s really clear to a lot of people. I’ve played mmo’s since everquest 1, been playing muds since they were back on compuserve and AOL online “was” the internet to most people. Only in the most pay-to-win games do I see new people join and drop out like they do in gw2. I see many, many new people (low ap scores) buy the game, join a guild, play for 20 or 30 levels and quit. They don’t even bother to max a single character, because everyone in their guild has told them, repeatedly “There’s nothing to do at 80, leveling is the fun part”. They don’t believe it at first. Surely there’s more to it. But eventually, after they’ve been told by several people “No, really, there’s nothing special at 80 except more dungeons” it finally sinks in that they’ve totally wasted their $25/$50/whatever.

I want to support this company. I feel strongly, however, that whatever made gw1 great (seriously, that’s my all time fave mmo, you really outdid yourselves in a lot of ways) has been watered down and neutered into something boring, formulaic, and so startchy-clean and perfect looking that there isn’t a spec of dirt on a norn. Giant sweaty dudes wearing leather and carrying axes, killing things all day, but every single one gleams like the top of Mr. Cleans bald head. That was ok in 2004 with 2004-era graphics, it’s not ok a decade later.

I can’t do it anymore. Between the writing (those hiccups to break what laughably little tension there was in the Scarlett final scene are a perfect example), the family friendly until it’s painful art style, the npc’s in major cities constant spouting about how wonderful war is (as a veteran, “I had a dream about a war, I must go fight in it” is the single stupidest reason I’ve ever heard to volunteer to be a body bag, fantasy situation or no), and now this… modifying of things, instead of adding content, and acting like it’s something special… It’s the last straw for me for a while. I’ve put a lot of hours into this game, waiting for it to get good. It’s not getting good. I understand that now. This update has been upsetting to a large portion of your userbase, and I think most of them are going to sigh quietly and either go back to wvw or just move on to another game. Normally I would join them, but things have been wrong (to me) for so long here, and I’ve abided it patiently, that I feel I should speak up.

I’ll come back for the next LS event. I won’t expect there to be more than an hour or two’s worth of new content, and I will expect to grind that content until it gets boring because it will be the only thing there is to do in gw2 that I haven’t already grinded into the dirt.

There are a lot of people out there with 3x/4x/5x the achievement points than I do. People who never stopped defending you. If you go to reddit and mention that you’re disappointed with gw2 you’ll be downvoted to oblivion. It still took you two years to give those fans account-bound legendaries and account bound WxP. The phrase “battered spouse syndrome” comes to mind.

[Constructive] Whole-map event vs. Zerg & AFK

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azreell.1568

Azreell.1568

If the people you are seeking to report for being AFK are saying anything at all in chat, including the message you quote, then they are, by definition, not AFK. You cannot type, “You can’t report me, there’s not an AFK option, you’ll get in trouble instead for a false report,” while, “Away From Keyboard.”

So technically they would be right. You would be sending a false report because you would be accusing them of something they have not done.

People call it “AFK” because it’s short. To be precise, it’s “idling” – which is actually abusing a game flaw for personal profit, thus exploiting.

After playing this content countless times now my suggestion to the GW2 player base would be worry about yourself first because I have never met a more skill less group of players in terms of pve then I have in this game.

Once again those cpl people sitting afk are not the reason you are failing the event. You are failing the event because the gw2 populous can’t see huge glowing circles on the ground or have no ability to dodge telegraphic mechanics. Add into the fact that apparently having to stand on pads to get 3 buffs is very stressful and confusing to most who play this game.

When you start loosing the event due to afk’ers then we can have a conversation.

Until then, You people should be looking in the mirror – not at other people.

Christina, we want everyone in Guild Wars 2 to feel like a hero in the game. But, it’s good for us to be reminded that there are those who exercise extreme bravery and strength every day in their real lives. Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings. It means so much to us. We believe strongly in the power of diversity, not just as a tool for telling good stories, but also as one of the things that makes our REAL world so interesting and inspiring. You’re very much a part of that. BIG HUG!

To the devs who worked on Taimi, who wrote her and created and animated her model:

I want to thank you for Taimi. I live with multiple sclerosis, and while I was only diagnosed a handful of years ago and am looking forward to a future where I won’t be trapped in my own body, I value characters like Taimi more than you can know.

My greatest trouble spots are my legs, specifically the joints in my hips and knees. There are days that I wake up and I can’t get out of bed. I’m young (in my 20s) and I walk with a cane and have a handicapped tag for my car – and I get nasty looks from people all the time because I’m young and, clearly, I shouldn’t need a cane or a handicapped space. I’ll never forget the day a pregnant woman berated me outside a grocery store for taking the handicapped space she wanted.

When I play games, it’s usually as an escape. I like to imagine that I’m the perfectly healthy Commander Shepard, or some outrageously good looking Final Fantasy character on a quest to save the world with magic. Games take me out of my situation and, for a little while, allow me to be someone else. Maybe this is why I play a hyper-mobile d/d Elementalist.

But when you introduced Taimi, I was overjoyed. I didn’t play the Marionette weapon testing update, so I didn’t see Taimi until just recently when I was mucking around the refugee camp in Gendarran. The friend I was playing with pointed her out, and I think I shrieked loud enough to wake the dead.

I don’t know where you’re going with Taimi. But honestly I don’t care. Because now, in Tyria, I can imagine having a giant golem cart me around when I can’t feel my legs or when they hurt too badly to walk. Now when I get derisive or pitying looks, I can take a minute to imagine I’m sitting on a golem’s shoulder like a complete kitten.

So thank you for thinking of people like me. Thank you for thinking about how someone with a disability might get along in your world. And thank you for making her awesome.

Christina

This…

… Is literally the best patch ever. So much loot… So much activity… So much art to appreciate. LA has never looked better than it has up in flames. As if I wasn’t addicted enough to this game I can hardly get enough of the destruction and despair that’s now plaguing our once peaceful inlets. Feels like we were suddenly slapped in the face with an invasion, thousands are dead and we’re now fighting to avenge the fallen and reclaim our lands.

… Or maybe I’m just over-imaginative ._.
Either way I love this to death. I’m not big on PvE what-so-ever. I spend 90% of my time in WvW occasionally farming dungeons for a bit of loot/gold but besides that PvE has never caught my attention for more than an hour or so. But now… I can’t pull myself from LA for longer than a few minutes. When we’re all sent back to the nearest safe zone when the event ends, I’m just waiting anxiously for it to start again.

Great job, ANet. For this player, this is by far the best thing to hit the game. I can’t wait to see how this progresses ( :

You don’t have to do anything except swing with a sword, swing again and oh look at that swing again – which is literally opposite of what was said in the manifesto you probably saw.

You really SHOULD try to do something other than zerging someday. You’ll be baffled about the variety of weapons and skills.

I don’t zerg at all, I fractals and dungeons. Your argument is invalid.

Then you should know that if you use a sword, you will always have to use the sword for your attacks (obviously). However, you have 5 different attacks with that sword. Then you can also us another weapon and also, you’ve got 5 more exchangeable skills. I doubt that all you do is autoattacking without ever using any other skill.

Considering the 4 other skills on a weapon are mostly utility based, auto attacking provides the highest dps in the game and as PvE is just a dps race, that is all you will be doing.

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

Here is the point:

ANet did not end the trinity. They just made healing and tanking not viable even though we have the options in most classes trait and weapon choices, leaving DPS the only role left for everyone in PvE.

People ask why other people would like a system like the trinity, but honestly, people just like to play different roles. Every class plays more or less the same in GW2:

Auto-attack, dodge, random-attack, dodge… The variety is very slim, and it gets fairly stale at some point. It doesn’t matter if you are a warrior in heavy armor or a elementalist in cloth, the mantra is damage to the face and dodge like a bunny.
With the melee/berserker meta in PvE, things get only worse. Everyone is a glass cannon melee class…

There is only only role to be played in this role playing game. How is that fun in the long run?

^ the problem is that they do this and PUGs dont bother with the content because it’s too hard compared to other existing stuff.

TA Aetherpath for example. It has a chance to drop unique skins, and gives a good bit of gold. But you rarely get PUGs doing it because simply its a horrible experience in one because it actually needs co-ordination, skill and non-Zerker gear which frankly most of the playerbase don’t have.

Not quite sure what you can do about it.

Trinity is fine. Every MMOs except GW2 have it. Even new mmos that is coming soon have a healer class. Trinity is important for raids. The role specialization is needed for co-ordination in a raid. That is the reason why GW2 has no raids and all world boss events are a Zerg.

After saying that I doubt we will see Trinity in GW2 since it is developed specify without it. To add trinity now will mean a total redevelopment of its core design. It would be easier to build GW3!
