I have no idea what's going on.

Post 1-2:
I began playing Guild Wars 2 a few months ago and have finally managed to complete the main story. Now I have started to play through the Heart of Thorns expansion but one thing has always been bugging me about the games story. I can’t seem to make heads nor tails of it. Time and time again I find myself hearing about something within the game but get no explanation as to what it is or what’s going on. I find myself having to go outside the game to places such as the GW2 wiki page to read up on various subjects, and even then I either don’t get much information or have to continue reading up on other points for it to make any kind of sense.
Even though I have completed the main story I’m still not sure what I did exactly, or why I did it. Every step of the way I found myself asking more questions and getting very few answers. I’m not sure how much GW2 is linked to any of the previous games in the series, so it’s possible that some things were explained in those which I haven’t played.

At the very start of the game I was dropped right in the middle of a large battle, my first thoughts were “what’s going on? Who are these people? Why are they fighting? Which side am I on?” I never really got an answer to any of those questions but can at least assume that because afterward the people giving me quests were sending me after ‘the fire legion’ that they were the ones I was supposed to be fighting against for some reason.
That battle ended abruptly, and I was sent to ‘the citadel’ where other characters were hailing me as some sort of hero. Again I found myself asking “what happened with the battle? Why and how did it end? Why is my character a hero? What did he do?” Once again I don’t think I ever got an answer to any of those questions.

On the whole there seems to be a severe lack of explanation in this game with the story, the features, and the gameplay. I still don’t know how to use half the features in the game and can’t find any information online which really helps.

The next questions I had in regard to the story was when my character and some others found out that a necromancer was raising the dead, supposedly using a dragons power to do so. Of course I had to ask myself, “How do we know that?” and again I got no answers or clues.

On the subject of dragons, that’s the next thing that confused me. Out of nowhere a bunch of characters started talking about how we’re all fighting a huge dragon threat. There had been no mention of this up until the necromancer incident, so I was utterly confused, I had no idea what anyone was talking about until I looked it up elsewhere, I kept asking “What dragon? How do we know about this? Where is it? Why are we fighting it? I was supposed to be going after the fire legion, how did the threat suddenly turn into a dragon?” I found no answers within the game, ankitten ot sure if I even found the answers anywhere outside the game either.

Then things took another twist and I ended up fighting some sort of zombie invasion. I had no idea where these zombies came from but somehow every npc did know, and they also knew thee zombies were linked to the dragon. They seemed to be rising up everywhere but then somehow everyone knew they were coming from a place called “orr” which I had never heard of until that point when again it was brought up out of nowhere.

The story takes so many twists and turns that it makes me dizzy, but I still hoped that everything would be wrapped up and explained towards the end.

I still have no idea who Trahearne is or why he was there, but he just appeared and made himself the leader of an army for some unknown reason. He was helping to fight the dragon, I get that much, but about half way through he started saying that his “wyld hunt” was over and pretty much disappeared. I have no idea what this wyld hunt is since it wasn’t even mentioned until after he apparently finished it. I at least expected him to be at the final battle with everyone else but he was nowhere to be found. Instead a bunch of other characters appeared who claimed they were part of my team, but the only one I even recognized was a character called Rytlock, the others I had never seen in my entire time of playing.

But in the end everyone defeated the dragon and I remained just as confused as ever.

Make crafting account bound.

Yes, I know, this will create a big cry of outrage from players who have already grandmastered a specific crafting discipline on more than one character. (Although I cant understand why anyone would do that, as it’s faster and cheaper to just switch characters, but let’s assume such people exist) They will cry that they wasted time, gold, and possibly even real life money. But we should never halt progress, never stop improving the game for all players, just because it undervalues the (pointless) struggles of a few. And to counter their arguement, this change may have lost them the gold they wasted to make a second or third master scribe, but it will have gained them an aditional master scribe for every character on their account for free. So the gains outweigh the loss.

As for the old arguement that crafting should remain character bound because it grants experience and thus helps with leveling, that has been a mute point for a long time, as experience from crafting is all but non-existant now. Really, there is no reason to have it character bound.

As for the benifets of having it account bound, that goes without saying, quality of life, ease of play, not having to switch characters to craft.

Yeah, try with a smaller amount. 90 or more gold will scream “scam” to most people and they will ignore or avoid.

Thank you very much hate to be banned for a bit of fun with emotes

OP, by the looks of it, you have chosen the first answer that you like as the ‘actual answer’ but if you believe it to be true and get caught using such scripts – you are going to get banned.

I know of one instance where a PvP player a couple of years back got banned for using a macro that spoke a phrase every time he killed a player. Small phrases such as “Die Noob” or “Owned” or whatever.

Auto-clickers for opening bags are also not allowed.

[SUGGESTION]WVW Guild server pass

I really want to play WvW with my guild that is not a WvW guild. We talked several times about trying it together but everyone is on a different server… it would be cool to have a guild wvw pass of a guild wvw team or better a squad(about 20 ppl? or less?)that if created put everyone from the team into the same server.
Maybe it would be better to manage low population servers and if the guild is not able to change the server without spending gems it would be fine I guess.

Would you be open to Biracial NPCs?

I agree with the people saying it wouldn’t make sense.

Interspecies relationships? Yes, absolutely go for it. In fact I think it’s already happened. But they would not be able to produce children.

Some Tyrian species may be able to interbreed. For example I don’t think it’s been confirmed but there is a theory that the norn and the kodan used to be one race (this is mentioned in-game by some kodan, not simply a fan-theory) so they may be able to reproduce. But like horses and donkeys or lions and tigers it’s likely the offspring would be infertile.

But in real life those examples are extremely rare and very much the exception (even with human intervention, trust me we’ve tried all kinds of combinations that don’t work, even with artificial insemination). I can’t see any reason it would be different on Tyria.

The sylvari are especially problematic given they can’t even have children with each other. It might be possible to cross-pollinate the Pale Tree with other plants (especially some of the others in the Maguuma), especially since plants are generally more easily hybridized, and can even have fertile offspring. But I’m not sure that would be a good idea.

Colorblind Support for Enemy AoE Circles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

WolfmanBurnsides.9825

I was fighting the Dredge Powersuit on the Tier 2 Underground Facility Fractal, dying several times, when I realized that the reason I was dying was because I was standing in AoE circles that I couldn’t see. I am red-greed colorblind, and can only barely see the color red, and I found the narrow red outlines to be nearly imperceptible against the backdrop of white snow. In the end, I switched to a ranged weapon and stayed at max range, which was more dps than I could do while dead, but much less than is possible with a melee weapon.

There are some contexts in which the little red outline is adequate (it stands out better for me against a blue background), and at low levels it isn’t a big issue, because you can stand in AoE for several seconds without dying. But I feel like I can’t progress to higher level fractals or raids because standing in an AoE circle for even a moment means death, and I can’t see the circles to avoid them. The same is true in WvW, where people often stack wells to make an instant-death zone. It’s frustrating to feel held back by a disability which rarely comes up in my everyday life.

Having thought about it, I could suggest a number of different potential fixes to make Guild Wars 2 more colorblind-friendly. For me, it would be sufficient to simply be able to change the color of the red outline on enemy AoE circles. Alternatively, it might be helpful to be able to fill in the circles with some sort of highly-visible pattern. I find AoE skills like lava font easier to avoid because they have a component which is visible inside the circle, and being able to do something similar for all AoE would be a big help.

The large yellow-orange circles and cones that are used for active AoE skills are very easy for me to see, because their color is high contrast, and the whole object is filled in. These are the AoE circles and cones that pop up under several bosses, keep lords in the desert borderlands, and Mordrem Punishers, among others. I know that red circles refer to something different from yellow-orange circles, but I think taking design cues from the AoE circles that are easy to see could help in making the game more colorblind-accessible. Being able to swap red circles to match yellow-orange circles, or circles of a different color which are similarly high-contrast and filled-in, would go a long way towards making the game more playable for people like me.

Keyring/chain (same as wallet UI, but separate?):
Currently using the shared inventory slots, and I dislike it.
#The keys do not automatically go into the shared inventory slots. Manually putting in 3 keys is ridiculous.
#The shared inventory slots have much better potential, like housing legendary weapons, more salvage kits, etc.

Bookcase/bookbag (bag would be with the wallet, for example)
#Only for completed books
#This is going to be a big problem if more books are added, and I hope they are!

Friends Panel – Groups
#I would love it if I could organize friends into, say, people I’ve met pvp-ing, so I don’t go around asking the people I’ve made friends with in PvE to PvP.

Build Swapping—Traits
#Having a drop down-menu would be ideal. Also codes so the builds become shareable.

Build Swapping—Gear
#The only way I see this working is having an “alternate” gear tab in the hero panel. The gear would be permanently stored there, and would have to be manually moved to change it.

Salvaging
#Salvage all light/medium/heavy armour.

Hero Panel—BL items
#This is just me, but as a completionist, if I had a tab for all of the gliders, for example, shown to me, I may throw more money at you.

Potions (and food, and utilities, etc)
#Maybe this is because dungeons pseudo-died, but the potions that went with them (powerful potion of svanir slaying, for example) seem to be extremely low use. Maybe this is because it’s more inventory bloat? Having a separate place for all of these may make a wider use for them and also increase the purchases.
#Being able to use the exact right utility/food for the exact right situation and changing it on the fly would be cool.

My suggestion is two fold:

Create “alpine” and “desert” landscapes for servers designating the respective borderland they’re assigned that week.

Place mini commander tags, with color, on the servers. Possibly have the ability to scroll over the tag and see who it is that’s commanding.

Outfit pieces toggle

There are a number of outfits I just won’t buy because of the shoulders. I’d rethink if I could toggle them off.

I think one-piece outfits benefit only one party, and it’s not the customers. There is a huge disadvantage to the players in not being able to mix and match outfit pieces- it’s impossible to get a unique look. Between that, the paltry number of outfits in the store to begin with, and most of the armor in the game being unattractive, I have to pinpoint the wardrobe feature being pretty weak in GW2.

Danikat.8537

i think its time that they change the way outfits work completely so we can use separate parts.

this would solve your “i don’t like a certain part” problem
(and also send outfit sales through the roof, because the majority of outfits will have atleast a little bit that you’ll want!)

I agree, but unfortunately that’s unlikely to happen.

Back when GW2 first came out outfits didn’t exist and instead we had town clothes which were basically the same thing but you couldn’t wear them in combat and could mix and match them (only with each other, not with armour). Oh and each piece had it’s own dye channels.

When the Wardrobe was introduced in 2014 town clothes were removed. The full sets from the gem store were turned into outfits (like the pirate and chefs costumes), the hats were turned into armour and the odd pieces (like the various gem store tops) were turned into tonics which gave you a random combination of clothing featuring that piece.

I don’t think they ever explained why, other than they’re easier to churn out this way. The change was unpopular at the time…and still is. But since they went to all the effort to combine them I think it’s unlikely they’ll revert them back to single pieces now.

Although I do think it could work, even for the newer outfits that have come out since. Anything which doesn’t have easy places to divide it could simply stay as single pieces and ‘over write’ anything else you’re wearing.

That’s what used to happen with the pirate costume. The top and trousers were one piece and if I put it on my human female while she was wearing her default skirt the skirt was hidden and she had the pirate trousers instead. The same could be used with things like the wedding dresses which don’t work as separate pieces.

I thought this would be negative too.

But now I know what it’s about I completely agree. I actually like the personal story (no it’s not the most amazing writing, even within a game, but I still found it enjoyable) and I really like this instance. The ending to it is really wonderful and the music is perfect.

I also like the impact of having everyone we’ve met throughout the invasion of Orr (and before in some cases) there to share the moment.

The one thing that bothers me is that Season 2/HoT has put a whole new spin on it.

We now know that the cleansing ritual consisted of a minion of Mordremoth (Trahearne) using a thorn from a champion of Mordremoth (The Pale Tree), in a ritual created by those two to create something that looks a lot like Mordremoth’s vines and/or the plant structures the sylvari create, which we now know is a modified version of dragon corruption. So did it actually cleanse Orr, or did it just replace one form of corruption with a prettier one?

THAT is one of the few little pieces of magic that HoT brought to the game for me. I loved it when it dawned on me, whilst playing GW1, that … maybe the Mursaat’s weren’t all that evil, and maybe their motives were just… but hang on, they were killing my race.

Hang on… did Trahearne do it because it was a minion of an elder dragon, or did he do it because he had free will at the time, even if he didn’t fully understand the tools at his disposal?

It’s those kind of thought provoking tugs that really makes the story in this game for me.

A PvEer's Perspective on WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Ceesa.1350

Ceesa.1350

I generally stay out of WvW, but now that the Gift of Battle requires ~10 hours of playing, I’ve had to spend a decent amount of time with everyone. Here are some of my thoughts on the experience. (And fyi, about 70% of the time was spent in EotM.)

1. When two zergs of roughly equal size meet, the battle is fun. When one zerg just rolls over another, it’s not so fun. When your commander can’t make up his mind about what to do, things are downright frustrating. (Last night our zerg was staring at another one, and we each had AC up. Com yells “push left”, leads a charge into AC range, and then immediately turns around and runs all the way back to where we started. Half the zerg follows him, half doesn’t see, so they die in the charge.)

2. Taking objectives is rewarding. I mean I get a sense of accomplishment from it, even if there was no one home to defend other than NPCs.

3. I’ve enjoyed having to tinker with my build. Obviously what works in PvE doesn’t work as well here, and trying new things, especially utility skills that I’d otherwise discount as a “DPS loss” has been a great way of branching out.

4. Despite all of this, as soon as I have my Gift of Battle, I’m going right back to spending 100% of my time in PvE. Why? Rewards suck in WvW. I can play for hours and not have to clear my bags. Just about anything I do in PvE makes me gold faster and with less down time between activities. There’s just so much time spent running from A to B in WvW that I get bored with it, and as long as I’m running, I’m not collecting loot.

5. The reward tracks aren’t rewarding. Tomes of knowledge? I already have thousands of spirit shards and 9 level 80 toons. Transmutation charges? I have hundreds. And the idea of a maximum tick is absurd when the only way to make progress on the track is ticks and daily rewards. If I’m in WvW to grind a gift of battle or the wvw armor set, then I should see that my participation is correlated directly to my rewards. Sadly, this system encourages me to do a soft afk. Here’s how it works: I join the zerg, get my dailies done, get 100% participation, then afk for 5-10 minutes. I’ll alt-tab, get some irl work done, browse 9gag or imgur, read a book, whatever. Then I’ll alt-tab back in, autoattack an NPC so far away from the action that no one cares, and then I’ll run away and afk again. The idea that that behavior gets me the same amount of progress on the reward track is ridiculous. The other rewards that I’m missing out on either don’t matter to me (karma – already have more than I need; experience – already have a zillion spirit shards) or are insignificant enough for me to ignore (loot drops).

6. Really then, it looks to me like the only thing keeping people in WvW is that some people just love the game mode. That’s cool and all, but I know all of you are worried about decreasing player population. If you want to generate more PvE interest in WvW, the rewards need to be increased significantly (not to AB Multiloot levels, but to silverwastes or cursed shore levels) and the cap on the reward track tick needs to be done away with. Well, either that or make all sources of WXP also provide ticks for the reward tracks. I’d be ok with ticks stuck at a hard maximum, but each time I kill a player I get 3-4 points for the track as well. It’d make me play more and afk less.

Anyway, just some of my thoughts. Congrats for making your way through the wall of text. I want to like this mode and play it more, but some things are just holding me back.

Or it could go the other way.
People hate the bl and don’t want to go there to defend.

That would be me *looks innocently

Which isnt really so bad. As I’ve said before if DBL is popular, great! Its never going to be a real WvW map with towers that far from keeps but it work decently with lots of players. If the map is completely deserted and people dont even go to defend, well then thats great too! Because it means that the border population will be concentrated to two instead of three, which means more action and more fun. The pressure to defend hbl will just shift to more pressure on enemy borders. The offset will always be that DBL will be so easy to backcap for its home border occupants if zergs come and go instead of staying.

The only people that get tired will be those actively seeing DBL as a real border while the majority of their server dont, cause they aint going to get EB or guild support when defending it. So my advice would be to go with the flow. Dont try too hard. Thats what borderers (well what do we call them lol) vs EBers did with 3 DBL and it was just toxic on a daily basis.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to let you know that the mixed borderlands will be coming with Tuesday’s release! This means that the red borderlands will now always be the Desert Borderlands and blue and green borderlands will always be the Alpine Borderlands. Changing the map will require an estimated 45-90 minutes of WvW downtime around the time of the release. This change also requires us to end the match early (on the Tuesday before the release), and run a new match from Tuesday to Friday. As a reminder, that Friday is also when new world links will be happening.

How will this affect the jumping puzzle achievements for the 3 BL maps? Will the garnet one be retired then?

  1. Posting on TP, we don’t need successful post confirmation, by default, if my item listed with no problem, I assume that everything is ok, bring me up only error messages if something went wrong. This would same millions clicks and minutes just for dismiss confirmation window.
  2. Mail. Same. “Mail sent successfully”, now have freaking dialog window with ok button which you cannot dismiss by any way but clicking smallest ok button. Also I would love to have warning window “Are you sure that you want to send 1g” instead, because of typos.
  3. Keeping positions in hero panel. Or at least give us different key bindings for build, gear, achievements.
  4. Sell blue and green quality items at vendors. Or right click at “sell trash” button and select selling level.
  5. Gathering tools. Please A.net, make unlimited gem store tools as wardrobe items. Then I will probably buy more, just for fun. Or remove gathering tools slots from hero panel and use them from inventory (now account wide slots come handy), and also level matching for consumable tools would be great. I’m good with bag space penalty for tools for different tiers of nodes, but equip them for every node is insane.

Basically, I am looking for an easy-to-play, mostly stationary class/spec, mainly for solo PvE.!

I’m a person with slow reaction times, Necro is the best for me, I totally recommend it. No blocks and other active defences (I am very bad at timing those things), naturally high HP and shroud is more comfortable to me. Also, my Necro is full Knight (max defence) and I can solo everything and I never get downed during HoT metas either. I don’t play minion master but I heard it’s one of the easiest Necro builds.
