I’m sorry Safir but this isn’t about ‘pay to win’ for me in any way. I love this game.. I love almost every part of it. Why on earth would I not want to pay for the extra goodies? I don’t understand that at all. As for pay to win… this game isn’t pay to win.. unless you count buying gear, mats, and so on, like you have to do in pretty much any competitive game etc.

I will NEVER mind paying for my entertainment. I am a programmer… and I know what it takes to do these things. Sorry but I’ll never never understand people that get upset about anything they get for free when it costs huge amounts of money and time to develop these things.

It IS a business after all.. they want m o n e y! I want e n t e r t a i n m e n t.. so I pay. not to win… but to have fun.. . period.

oh and lastly.. “current generation of gamers”… I am 60 yrs old… not quite current.. but still having fun!

Ironically, EotM, where this would actually be useful, won’t get this.

I’m not even surprised.

Why do people keep repeating this when it unequivocally not the case? All you need to do is go back to the Desert BL debate. There was requests to add gliding to it several times over.

There were more then a few threads on the matter with many of those opposed concerned about it being used to Glide over the walls and into keeps and towers , a situation which was addressed in the announcement.

I can’t wait for this change, will bring different tactics and strategy, although I think being able to deploy glider while in combat is a mistake if it is the case.

Long before desert BL and s a lark I once ran my warrior with a combo of the snowfall runes and death from above. It was hilarious. There only a few cliffs I could find that were too high to jump from and not survive. More then a few chased after me or QQed as to how I could survive those Jumps at hills while they perished.

(people must of thought I was nuts as I carefully went around all of Alpine BL and jumped off the highest clifs just to see which ones could be safe in the future)

This is such a silly statement. If your enemies decide to run away by gliding, YOU JUST GLIDE AFTER THEM !

At some point they have to land since it’s not true flight.

Your statement is even more silly because you can only glide if you own the territory ;^)

“If you enter a territory that you do not own while gliding, you will be kicked from your glider.”

AND lets not forget that being able to ‘MOVE’ a fight a large distance (via gliding in this case) means they can pretty much grab help from anyone remotely near them and/or lead you into a tower killzone.

If you could move a fight 3000-5000 units “presently” in wvsw, what would happen? They would abuse objective entrances/gaurds/pve/siege/terrain and basically take you to a spot on the map that is definitely in their favour..

This sounds like a unique and viable strategy. Something that the blob v. blob rabble love to reminisce about and claim “hasn’t been here since pre-hot.” But I’m sure they’ll find a way to complain about this change just like every other change – all the while complaining that there aren’t enough changes.

Ohhh, I’m so looking forward to seeing a blob fall from the sky after a sneaky cap or being late rushing to defend!

I think this will make defending more fun aside from siege wars and see this spawning up new tactics and I love to see crazy new tactics. I’m glad they stated it will be a test tho but I hope it works out!

So how do you “Fix” the population imbalance?

I mean really? Without breaking up guilds, communities, third party VOIPs and websites, how does one actually do that?

Every single suggestion I’ve ever seen on this forum and Reddit ultimately involves some people getting the short end of the stick and having to re-locate.

Fine if you are on the winning side but not fine for those people that also play this game and may have spent the same amount of hours as you in it, or even more.

You cannot simply quantify people into a mold because people don’t work that way therefore the game will not work that way as it is people driven.

Zerg servers gonna zerg, that’s how it is, the only way is to put them all together and leave them.

Out of rebalancing world populations, eliminating server lag and separating skill balancing from PvE, Gliding was the one you chose to work on?! Seriously?

You still have not met all the goals of the Scoring changes: reduce need for off-hour coverage, reduce number of lopsided matchups, give teams real opportunity for a comeback, and decide matchup winner fairly.

I bet you next work on getting those PoF mounts, and HoT mastery track PvE crap to WvW. Oh, wait! You already added Blazing Speed Muchrooms (Blessing of Elements), Bouncing Mushrooms (jump pads) and Nunoch Wallows (more jump pads). Perhaps a more proper greeting would have been “Hello, PvEers!”.

I will give you some basic information here. The people working on server lag is most likely different from the people that worked on gliding. Server lag is more the domain of the network and infrastructure side of things. Features whether temporary or otherwise are likely done by designers and devs who do scripting, not network code.

It’s like saying “how come your hospital can’t do a brain operation when you have so many heart surgeons just chilling and sitting around” The answer is “because brain surgery is not the same as heart surgery and requires a different set of knowledge and experiences”

Besides map adjustments, we have also replaced Ballista’s fourth skill with an anti-air bolt skill that shoots people out of the air and immobilizes them for a short duration.

I’ve said this every time it’s brought up: Only if I can shoot you out of the sky and watch you drop like a lead balloon.

Sniff. I feel like I’ve been given a very glorious gift.

It’s going to be spectacular!

Also this thread feels like residents rioting over a change from green jello to yellow jello at a senior’s home. Actually wait to see how it works folks; the sky is falling stuff is such a waste of energy.

…one more thing. If you’re close enough to the objective for the little bar-graph thing to be visible on your screen showing the status of the capture ring, gliding should fail the instant the ring is capped. You had plenty of time to save yourself while it was capping.

Open up your minds. This is great news, things get stale if nothing changes and WvW has barely changed in 5 years. You’re all crying the whole time about about WvW not getting enough attention or changes, and then you cry just because a great PvE feature is added to the game mode?

You all sound like old farts with that fear of change. This sounds great and has incredible potential to add a feature that will greatly improve and refresh the game mode.

Perfect. Just what I wanted. Territories marked in the map, and gliding.

Specially Territories. There’s tons of cool stuff that can be done to improve WvW when we have territories clearly delimited. Like making Outnumbered work per Territory, and what seems to be already in place to an extent: Making Objective Auras work within the entire territory.

And remember, gliding ONLY works in your own territory. Don’t like enemies gliding? Take over the territory. I hope the test works well. I can’t wait to shoot off some ducks out of the air. That will be fun.

So it seems this djinn lamp I found actually works! Just look at that. I wish for 2 things, and there it goes.

If gliding actually stays, next I’m going to wish for a test for mounts to work without controlled Territories.

If that works, I’m then I’m going to wish for Shrines to be added to alpine so we can unlock jump pads to travel faster between the camps at the north and the sides when all 3 are controlled.

And after that, time to wish for a third borderlands map with a theme inspired in Cantha, with the Citadel being inspired by the City of Kaineng, the east keep being in a lake, inspired by the Jade sea; and the west keep at the top of a cope of giant petrified trees, inspired by Echovald.

SUGGEST-A-TRON says:
PAY—ONCE—UNLOCKS—ARE—ALWAYS—BETTER.
No exceptions!

Guys calm down haha. Actually think about how the gliding works.

1: From the looks of it you can’t glide in enemy owned territory. So no the enemy pushing garri cant just glide away. The defenders however could try and use it to there advantage to regroup.

This will affect roaming as well. I doubt youl see to much gliding away. Im sure there will be SOME. But not nearly that much.

2: Gliding isn’t flight. And while they are gliding they CAN NOT FIGHT BACK. SO whack them odds are if there just on a small hill they will still be in melee range for a bit. Also if you have a ranged weapon they are a free kill.

3. THIS IS A kittenING TEST PEOPLE. Cool yourselves down. If it really IS horrible they can turn it off later. If its NOT horrible its an actual dynamic change to how the game mode works.

Thanks to how there setting it up this also means that f2p players and PoF players can enjoy it. As it will be tied ot wvw ranks and NOT mastery. So its available to everyone.

Read before you flip your kitten.

I don’t think you have the strongest grasp of how gliding works. If they try and run away by gliding off a cliff, just toss out a little cc and watch them fall to death, lmfao.

For that you require to have ranged CC. So now you have to make sure you have ranged CC on you at all times which means you have to change your build AROUND gliding? That’s kitten.

BEARBOWS REJOICE, OUR TIME HAS COME! It is our time to shine for we have waited for this moment forever, lurking at the back of the zerg.. Never wanted, always rejected. Finally we will be accepted into squads and people beg us to use our glorious longbow #4! PEW PEW PEW!

Since Draconis Mons lighting and nVidia 10xx cards came up, I’d be curious if anyone else sees these (see attachment).

This is the only area that ever triggers this from my card, and only in the lower right corner of the GW2 window, but it doesn’t show on GW2 generated screenshots (only if I take the screenie with Windows itself).

Bonus: my minimap is usually there in the corner, mostly obscuring this flickering checkerboard, but not completely. The minimap is not in any way distorted (save for the semi-transparent parts where the checkerboard shows through). It becomes a lot more apparent if I move the minimap to the other corner. Especially well visible in the recording spot near Webby Mother.

I believe this is related to the other issues discussed in this thread regarding 10xx cards and shadows. The checkerboard glitch should be fixed when that shadows fix goes out again.

+10000 for the bookshelf idea. I love collecting these lorebooks in game, but its getting impractical to carry them around on my characters.

I also would like as a more general QoL update, any item that exists solely to fill out a collection should be auto consumed when you pick it up. That way, if it does stick around in your inventory you would know it has another purpose.

Things you should know before buying HoT

If you already own HoT, and you’re happy with it… this post is not for you. If you are on the fence about whether or not to buy HoT… this post is for YOU.

Now, first off… I own HoT. I believe it has pros and cons, but I’ve made my peace with it. For new players, however, there are some things you should know before diving in.

HoT comes with the original Guild Wars 2 game, plus the expansion. Now, you’re thinking that’s cool. I’ll play it from the very beginning, finish the original Guild Wars 2 game, then jump onto the expansion storyline… well and good.

Here’s the curve ball. After finishing the original Guild Wars 2 game, the storyline will cease to make sense. Imagine watching your favorite TV show, missing an entire season, then jumping back in without knowing what happened in between. This is essentially what will happen to you.

Why is that? Well… because you ARE missing a season. What you are not told is that upon jumping in… you must shell out ANOTHER $20 in order to buy the “Living World Season 2” storyline. This segment basically connects the original Guild Wars 2 story to the expansion story. Now I know what you’re thinking… “is it an optional story?”

No. The Living World Season 2, in fact, is the DRIVING FORCE behind the HoT storyline. Without it. You would be lost.

This is not a debate about the justifications or merits as to why this “Season 2” is not included with your HoT purchase… it is merely informational… to tell you that it is NOT in your HoT purchase.

Some people will tell you that Anet created some sort of “summary” to catch you up to speed… about some NPC who recites the story to you in Lion’s Arch. Realize that this NPC in fact is NOT talking about the missing Season 2. The NPC is talking about the Scarlet war. You have to understand that Anet will not create an NPC that reveals to you an entire storyline that is available for purchase.

Now veteran players will tell you several options to get around this… you have to decide if any of these options are viable (or acceptable) for you considering how much you just paid for your HoT:

Option 1: Youtube the story you’re missing.

Option 2: Find a player who owns the story, and ask them to replay the entire thing while you tag along. Keep in mind that they will most likely NOT make the choices YOU wish to make in said storyline… you’re just along for the ride (unless it’s a friend and you specifically ask them to make certain choices).

Option 3: (My personal favorite suggestion from other players) – Ignore the storyline and just play HoT.

Option 4: Each episode costs about 200 gems. You cannot buy them with in-game gold straight. You can, however, grind for the gold then convert your gold into gems. The CURRENT cost in gold for the entire season is about 370 gold. I believe this cost fluctuates depending on the exchange rate. You can do your own research as to how much grind you’ll have to do in order to get this storyline. Or if you believe you should be made to grind in order to understand what is going on with the expansion story you just bought for around $50.

Now, you’re going to get some justifications from other players as to why it is only right that Living World Season 2 should (or should not) be included with your purchase of HoT. But I’m not here to debate those points… I’m merely telling you that it is not included in your purchase, and that you have to decide if you’re willing to either shell out an extra $20 for it… or utilize one of the options I mentioned above.

So there you have it. I was blind sided by this big time, and I was not too happy with it. I just wanted to share with others so you know what you’re getting into before buying HoT.

zengara: Yeah I’m playing as a Charr character. As far as I’m aware I haven’t been skipping the story when it’s presented to me. I try to watch what happens but half of it doesn’t make much sense to me because they keep bringing stuff up which hadn’t been established yet. It was as if the characters knew what they were talking about due to actually living in that world, but they forgot to pass on that information to the player.


From what I’m getting out of these replies, to understand the story I would basically have to play through the story of every type of available character, kind of like one of those bad dreamcast era Sonic games. That sounds increadibly time consuming just to understand what’s going on with the game in general.
Also where are these season things that I’ve been hearing about? At the very least those sound like they could be worth looking up whether I decide to get them or not.

Okay, make it a bit easier:

  • You don’t have to have played Guild Wars 1 or read the novels to get everything. They, however, enhance your understanding and significance of things.
  • If you play through the GW2 mainstory (it doesn’t matter which race or Order), you will go through these steps: Your Character Background, your Race Problem, Becoming a Hero of your Race, Joining an Order, Rise in Rank with the Order, Discover the Danger of Zaithan on L.A. , bring the Fight back to Zaithan, Weaken Zaithan and finally defeat Zaithan.
  • You mostly meet unknown characters in the last part of the mainstory. Mostly, because they wanted to have all come together there. It might be confusing, but often you just need to role with it.
  • However just following the story, won’t give you the whole picture. You get more information if you look at the lore presented in the maps (Enviromental Storytelling). For example, the whole Orr maps are showing the struggle of the Pact against Zaithans forces and that is referenced in the Story. That means, you liberating and holding Orr, is the progress the mainstory is referencing (like claiming temples there, etc.)
  • The other significant story starts with the dungeons. Each race has a hero (For example Rytlock Brimstone for the Charr), who was part of a legendary Guild called Destinys Edge. They have split up after a certain event (discribed in a novel, but also told about ingame). You first meet a hero in the PS (Personal Story) as your liason and then you meet all member in Lions Arch. From there you can help them reform their guild via the Dungeon Storymodes.
  • The Living World/Story (LS). Right now we are in the 3 Season. The 2nd Season is available in the gemstore. Each episode of a new season will be free, as long as you log in, when it goes live. The experimented with season 1 and changed the format in season 2. Without going into details, you have to read up on LS1, as it isn’t available anymore today.
  • Raids are a new thing that came with LS3 and they are given auxilary lore, that is highly significant but you get the gists outside as well.
  • Current Events, extra quests you can go on, who change the world, but are mostly hints towards future events. For example the Anomalys that run around several maps.

To give you a chronological order (Not nessessary to follow all):
GW1 (+All add ons and Mission Packs) → Sea of Sorrows (Novel) → Ghosts of Ascalon (Novel) → Edge of Destiny (Novel → GW2 Personal Story → LS1 (Wiki and Movie ingame) → LS2 (gem-shop) → HoT → LS3 → Future expansion.
