No one is complaining about the weapon skins being for sale. But many people are complaining about the way Anet is selling the skins.

These are the first really good weapon skins since Halloween. And those Halloween skins were in the kittening chests too. Does Anet like kitten off their customers? This is just pure greed on Anet’s part.

I’m am willing to buy some of the weapon skins outright.

^This^
This is what everyone who has half a brain is thinking/saying. Anet, please let us buy your content! We want to, it’s really good! Just don’t jerk us around about it. That’s what EA does. Don’t be EA.

Felt like checking how rare, “rare”, was this time. After roughly 100 Black Lion Chests opened and 100 Euro spending money spent (I ain’t fuzzed about the money, it was meant for supporting the game at any rate), I had a total of 0 Fused Weapon Skin tokens to show for it.

Now, as I wrote, I ain’t mad about the money involved, they were always set aside to spend on the Gem Store (as my incentive to not take up smoking again), however, I do get more and more annoyed at how rare they need to make certain things, Account Bound things at that, from random chance boxes. They’re basically pushing, at least me, further and further away from wanting to spend any more money on their game to support it.

I did get a Name Change Contract though! That’s always great, considering I don’t want to rename any of the 8 characters. Also got 3 Total Makeover Kits, although I don’t want to change my appearance. And I got a Self-Style Hair Kit, which was the only decent not-so-common item that I feel I can have some use for, maybe. Personally I don’t find it helpful/exciting to get these types of items in a random chance box either, as I would much rather buy them as I want them, if I want them. As-is, they are just taking up precious Bank slots.

If I didn’t luck out on the Unidentified Dyes that I got, where one turned out to be a Abyss Dye, the whole 100 Euro spent would be for more or less complete junk (personal opinion I guess, as I really don’t care for Boosters or one-use Mystic Tonics).

It’s a shame that their Gem Store team insists on milking the player base. Instead of additionally providing a direct Gem cost purchase for the weapon skins, though at a slightly “higher cost”. I wouldn’t mind spending 2000 Gems (25 Euro) on a weapon skin, if I really want it. I do mind spending 8000 Gems not getting what I want however. But, as others would say, it’s the players own fault for hoping ArenaNet stops these cheap business tactics in order to make money. On the bright side, we’re not forced to spend money in the Gem Store, though if everyone simply stops doing that and only convert their in-game Gold to Gems, I wonder how long they can keep the game development going.

PS: I honestly ain’t mad about it, I went in not expecting it to be too good of a chance when they worded it as “rare”. I am disappointed (in ArenaNet) yes, but not mad.

They better not only be available through the chests. They handled it correctly during wintersday with the weapons themselves being listed on the gem store. You would think they would learn from their past mistakes.

Couldn’t agree more with the OP. Blind praise gets you only so far.

If it’s a generally accepted truth that no game is perfect, why not look for the things that keep this game from being better?

@Vayne
It’s not the quantity that matters, it’s the quality. What Guild Wars 1 started with had more structure and soul. The campaign felt more fulfilling to complete than the scattered content you could rush through and ignore in GW2.

ANET could do worse than examine the masters of MMO’s..yes Blizzard and really investigate why an 8 year old game still trounces every new mmo release to the market…The simple answer is it listens. And Content..lots of it. They have a brand new 12 boss raid…what do we have?? Banging some fences in the snow and npcs we could care less for…

Actually not true. Blizzard analyzed the most popular and most played mmo of all time which is farm ville for their current game model. This goes a lot deeper then purely adding an actual farmville to their game by the as this game plan began implementation in mid Wotlk in making content appeal and tap into the huge player base farmville has and gain it on a subscription and microtransaction level.

Gw2 by that logic should analyze Farmville, but I love gw2 and have never had interest in farmville

Art work in this game is amazing I agree 100%

The fact is that currently WOW has 8million plus subscribers and is the leading MMO by far. I can’t go back because I really like the initial premise of GW2..however, I respect the fact they constantly churn out content and listen to the fans. SOmetimes I really feel that Anet comes across as disingenuous and arrogant in its dealings with the playerbase.

I disagree with your points made. How many content upgrades did Prophecies have when it was six months old? What did they get? Sorrow’s Furnace? FoTM absolutely was better than that.

Content takes time to develop. You act like the stuff they’re providing is worthless, but it’s not. It’s also not awesome beyond all reckoning.

You have a game that launched early by anyone’s standards. It’s taken them six months to get the game to launch quality. If during that time they had one decent upgrade, that’s ahead of the game.

I think people are just impatient. If you played Prophecies at launch, six months later it was like, umm, we need more stuff. Same thing people are saying here.

If you want more stuff to do, be patient, it’s coming. But comparing Guild Wars 2 to Guild Wars 1, when Guild Wars 2 had three full games and an expansion out, just isn’t right.

Sure we all want more content. The question is how reasonable is it to expect it so soon.

You should look at other MMOs six months out and compare, before you judge.

Well imo GW1 prophecies had a LOT more content at launch than GW2 anyways. I mean just look at the map…a good 3rd of the map has yet to be revealed! In GW1 it was all available from the get go. Also you have to factor in, that was like 8 years ago. the market has changed. Competition is stronger than it has ever been. It is in THEIR interests to up the ante. And the argument isn’t really about content per se..its about whether its the RIGHT type of content.

Does that make them any less valid? Or do you comment with genuine curiosity and agreement with the points made?

Yes, it does make them less valid. Every game that exists and has players get similar posts. The more players, the more complaints.

Well its easy to generalise without identifying specific points. So forgive me if I disagree. It wasn’t a whine post..it was pretty clear that there are legitimate issues with the game. But feel free to be an Ostrich

I love the game. I love the art, I love the mechanics and I love the fact that they tried to do something different regarding trinity. But as a loyal GW2 gamer and someone who played GW1 for 6 years, I can’t help but feel the last few patches have been utterly underwhelming.

They clearly have some very talented people at ANET. Great artists especially, but the potential and excitement of where the game could go has been worryingly deteriorating at a rapid pace. For me, the last REAL update content wise was fractals. An enjoyable update to the game that kinda gave it a mini raid feel without all the hassle that comes with a classic mmo raid.

Yet since then, what really has been added to the game in any meaningful way? Yes there have been updates to W v w and PvP, but as I rarely participate in those, I feel that the core playerbase of the PVE world has largely been neglected. The rot set in with the Karka event..Ill conceived, bugged and although it introduced a new area, it felt Spartan and unfinished with absolutely NO reason to go there other than a bit of gathering.

The guild bounties etc have also been poorly implemented imo too. What you basically have is guilds sending out members to find said mobs and then after a chore of a search we all gank them and that’s it..Sorry, this is dull as and not immersive in anyway. It’s also no where near as exciting in practise as we were led to believe.

And then we have Flame and Frost. Possibly THE single most underwhelming and pointless update yet. First off..no one cares. Seriously..no one gives a kitten at all. We are not emotionally involved AT AL! I have yet to speak so a single player in game who found the event..if you can call it that..anything other than a chore. It didn’t help by starting off with a main feature on the website, yet all you did was build a few sign posts for a few months. Now after all this build up, we find out the Dredge are involved. Do Anet realise that after the risen, most people hate fighting the dredge?

But mostly, the profession balance. Ordinarily, I really don’t complain about profession tweaking and one class over the other but in GW2’s case, its really really hard to ignore the fact that Rangers are getting screwed over and warriors are top dog. But no one knows why? They really can’t understand it..and who can blame them?

Like I say, its cos I love the game so much and its cos I CARE that im making this post, but I can’t help feeling really disappointed at the direction of the game. I already ditched WOW and SWTOR for this game, and tbh now I’m simply thinking MMO’s are not for me.

Really Anet? I respect your artistry, but I really sometimes wonder if you gusy actually paly your own game

The quickness nerf is the most devastating part of this patch. However the rest of the patch looks pretty excellent.

Now that quickness was nerfed to hell can you please buff Pistol whip back to its original damage? The only reason it was nerfed was because of quickness. Please put it back now.

The change to the outmanned buff looks like a huge win for WvW. Should encourage people to fight on even if they are outnumbered, and help more people to join.

The new living story instance should be interesting. Wasn’t expecting that, looks promising.

The improvements to the BLC are good, makes them a little more desirable.

I’m sure there is more, but those are what caught my attention the most.

Arenanet will always nerf ways to make gold. The reason why is because they want you to buy gems. If I was working at arenanet I would design things for people to buy in the gem store. You’d think this would be common sense but; apparently for them it’s not.

Arenanet is obsessed with the gem store to an degree that is killing the game. Many things like self-style hair kits and other cosmetic items would sell a lot more frequently if they’d halve the price, but they obviously have some kitten for brains statistician who has never once touched a game like this applying real world purchasing habits of people to a virtual environment.

I’m beginning to think that their business plan is to “grab all you can, then shut down”, just like NCSoft did with City of Heroes when they made it f2p.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

Number 3 is the biggest issue with this skill. The skill becomes absolutely useless in many areas simply because of the terrain. Please at least simply teleport/create a clone at the enemy’s location that we can swap to (and have the clone spawn at the appropriate time).

I’ve started to run into players who will simply strafe around on stairways and ramps in WvW because they know I can’t immobilize them there. In my opinion, this is getting into exploit territory, as players have learned to use this bug as an advantage vs. sword mesmers.

Exactly this. If due to technical limitations you can’t make the skill do what it says it does, then you need to change it to something you can do, spawn at target’s location.

I don’t imagine my company’s clients would appreciate it if we sold them our business intelligence software and when they installed it found out it only plays cat videos from YouTube because business intelligence is hard.

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Drew.1865

Reasons IMO:

1. Bad class imbalance. Balance of spvp and pve should b separate.

2. Condition damage is a useless stat in the state it’s in.

3. All content is a dps Zerg berserker gear only zergfest.

4. Boring combat system with supposedly bugged traits in some classes.

5. Wvw is totally pointless. You pay for repairs but are mostly getting a grey item toenail as loot or a few copper. The server that has the most players in the map always wins.

6. The dungeons are absolutely pointless and the bosses can 1 shot you and since the game uses a really bad combat system it makes the dungeons even more unfun. Sorry trinity is a much better system. Trinity is actually using a team of players where all members are important. Once you learned how to run past the trash in dungeons you could farm them and get tokens and almost always bad loot from them. Dungeon rewards are horrible.

7. No dungeon finder. Yes there is Lfg but it’s not ideal and every mmo should have the same features that other more successful game has on release.

8. The cash shop is horrible and there is nothing in it most players want. If the gems are what bring in the game’s revenue put the BEST and coolest cosmetic items in the shop. If players don’t like that then they should pay a sub. Sorry nothing in life is free.

9. The game’s rewards are horrible and make the replay of the content pointless. Why level an alt for no rewards (games combat system is bad so the cause it’s fun excuse doesn’t fix that for most players).

10. DR and the worst RNG. This game is basically a casino without slot machines or blackjack tables.

11. Until recently there was no reason to be in a guild and now the only reason is to do the guild missions and join a big guild. Anet offered nothing for small guilds. Main reason why my guild left the game.

12. The game community and forums are moderated very strictly but when many threads ask questions they mostly go unanswered.

13. Nerfs nerfs nerfs nerfs to loot and classes while buffing content.

14. Anet doesn’t use it’s own forum as the first place for news about the game.

15. End game is non existent and you can try to get a precursor for a legendary but the legendary requires gifts and those gifts require farming and grinding but they nerfed all the world drops so badly that by the time you might get something besides a porous bone you’ve been tagged by DR.

And the list goes on and on.

Is GW2 a game or a virtual casino?

Just some simple feedback to Anet; not looking to trollbait or debate folks who reply here. And FWIW, I’m a “fanboy” and think GW2 has been truly one of the best MMOs since the genre began. I’ve been playing them for that long and have played or beta-tested most of them. And I have 5 level 80 chars here in GW2 with three of them fully-tricked out in exotics or better. And I have participated heavily in all end game content, especially WvW. (Well, I never bothered with SPvP; not my thing.)

GW2 had the potential to keep me, my spouse, my longtime casual “family and friends” guild of 9 years, and my longer-time -very large and successful- hardcore PvP guild of 13 years still actively playing even now, past the 5-6 month mark where most of us have finally hit the saturation point. Even in the face of all the new 2013 MMOs that are about to come out (I’m beta testing no less than 3 different ones this weekend.)

But your endgame content frankly fails on three very simple accounts:

1. Your dungeon content has no “middle ground” difficulty level for less skilled players. Some of you will flame this post and say that the dungeon content is “too easy” even now, but I’ve got 20 people from my longtime casual guild who will beg to differ. A guild that did fine even on the middle tier of The Secret World (“elite” difficulty) and in other games struggled -greatly- with the overall difficulty of all GW2 dungeon content. Fractals were a bit better (easier) in the lower sub-10 difficulty levels, but the time investment to finish all three + jade maw to get any substantial reward is too heavy to accomodate the realities of gameplay windows for casual gamers. I’ll say it plainly and frankly: I know he means well, but Robert Hrouda should not be influencing or guiding your dungeon design in any way, because he does not understand the needs or capability of the typical “casual” gamer. Every one of my 20-member casual guild universally hates the standard dungeon design here: the stupid, senseless way they’re made difficult (and too much so), and the terrible “all or nothing” reward design. I’ve never heard good things from my large PvP guild either. Not -one- compliment for the dungeon design here out of the nearly 500 people I know who have played this game. Robert: Are you listening? Do better next time.

2. Money is too tight and the economy is too expensive. I’ve invested more than 1000 total hours in the game and have 5 level 80 characters. I’ve -never- had more than 20 gold in reserve at any one time. I have no hope whatsoever of ever attaining a legendary weapon for any one character. The costs are just way too far out of reach. Outfitting a single character in full exo gear is just stupid expensive and I’ve always resorted to grinding slowly for yellows, breaking them down with BL Salvage kits for ectos, and regularly scouring Orr and FG for ori and ancient wood. It’s slow and time consuming. Ultimately, it has made it -impossible- for me to experiment with different builds and gearing combinations. I’ve had to make a decision every time: will this character be focused on WvW or on dungeons? I couldn’t try the same class in both environments because I couldn’t acquire the two sets of gear necessary to do so.

3. Your “guild challenge” content completely excludes small casual guilds from the process. The unlock costs are incredibly and urealistically high for a smaller casual guild. After 6 months of spending our influence on very little (overall), we couldn’t even afford the very first unlock when you rolled that content out. That was the final nail in the coffin for my small guild. We didn’t enjoy your dungeon content as a group activity, and we were holding on only to see if the “guild challenge” content would keep us engaged. Nope: you left us out in the cold.

Anyway, I’m trying to keep this feedback relatively short. At this point you’ve lost my entire casual guild and my hardcore PvP guild. There are a few of us who still log in a few times a week to mess around and check whether the Daily that day will be fast and easy, but that’s about it. Most of us are already looking for the next game. I suppose you could say “hey, keeping you around for 5-6 months is pretty good for an MMO these days”. And that would be totally true. GW2 is a really strong game. The real point of this post is that if your end-game design were more casual-friendly in the three aspects listed above, you would have kept us engaged for much longer than that.

Better Blocking and Harassment Prevention

in Suggestions

Posted by: cmlanton.3496

cmlanton.3496

Dear Arenanet,

There is a serious flaw in the system put in place to block other players. That is, blocked players can still hear and see you, and you remain on their contact list. I’m the leader of a small guild, and have learned that two of my members have been verbally harassed in a graphic sexual manner by other players. The content of the harassment involved threats of kitten them, and was extremely explicit. This game is a T rated game, meaning that this shouldn’t even be an issue, and the dialogue was in the say channel for all to hear. This apparently has happened to them more than once, but this particular occasion was three days ago. They reported this to the game mods and the leader of the players’ guild, with screens, in an attempt to have someone take care of it, and so far it has not been addressed. I understand that addressing so many report can take a while, but in the mean time, the players have continued to stalk them. My argument, thus, is that another player shoulder not be allowed any interaction with those who block them outside of perhaps pvp and wvw zones. They should not be allowed to have said person in their contact list in an effort to remember his or her name, hear said person’s dialogue, see the other person, or interact with the other person in any manner. Some form of moderation should also be in place to observe areas and prevent such from happing. There should be a notification that someone received a report and is reviewing it. The blocking system needs to be overhauled to protect players from stalking and harassment. Reports on such matters should also be dealt with much more swiftly and severely. My guild members are disturbed by what has transgressed, and I’m very disappointed in the lack of response by management.

Ranger: Held back by pet

in Suggestions

Posted by: NinjaEd.3946

NinjaEd.3946

Safe to say, Ranger is not the best in pve, wvw, and especially spvp. Their dps relies on the pet being alive, and it kills them deeply since the pet is kitten kitten.

Ranger has received no buffs since release (no, the spirit buff means nothing. The spirits still die in 1-3 hits and just waste a utility slot). Ranger needs, and I mean NEEDS, an option without the pet/spirits for it’s own dps. It is too restrictive to make an entire profession dependant on an weak, uncontrollable pet that offers so little to those who just don’t give a kitten about it. Release new pet options, release new pet skills/families but the main problem is the ranger is entirely focused on something they don’t even ask for!

Ranger needs not just some numbers thrown in to buff it, it needs a rework. It needs an alternative to the pet in a profession friendly way that doesn’t trash it, but builds it back up. Ranger needs a options that increase it’s own dps and gives/takes away from the pet dps. Idk why this profession changed so dramatically from gw1-gw2 but none-the-less it was an aweful decision and deserves a rework. Make the pet a kitten einstein, won’t make a difference. Every profession deserves options and the ranger cannot even try to move away from the pet.

Maintain the pet option for those who want it, no hate for those who found a useful method to their pet. But give back the control of personal dps to the ranger so that it can be more controllable. We need options, not just a number change to make trap rangers even more “useful”.

P.s. why do devs abuse the word “like” out of context? i started counting the amount of times they said “like” in the last SotG and i got lost at 40+ and still had about 30min of video left o.O

Mega Boss loot changes

How is this going to change anything .

There is still going to be overflows there is still going to be guesting this cheap fix will do nothing.

I know when i get home from work there are overflows now and there will still be overflows when they patch this.

I dont know who decides these things for you Anet but man you folks should think things thru.

Firstly, let’s point something out in the clear. It is obvious that guesting is not the major issue here. I know what i’m saying here will never get through the minds of the mass because they’re so convince that the immigrants are stealing their jobs that no other explanation will be heard.

But hear me out, the issue with the current world chest is that people from all servers are running their alts through all the world chest daily in order to get the guaranteed rare. Because of this, high population servers are experiencing overflow issues because people on THEIR server are running alts constantly all day. Why is this not a guesting issue? Firstly, guesting was implemented a month ahead before chest were changed. No overflow issues were observed during that period. Dragon chest was repeatable at that time too so exploiting them was actually possible.

Next, dragon chest changes come in, immediately high population servers are experiencing overflow issues at peak times. Now let i remind you, guest are put in overflow as a priority.

If guesting was really the issue here, we would have at least experienced some sort of overflow problem prior to the dragon chest changes.

Now onto why the current proposed changes will work.

As I have explained earlier, right now if people had 5 alts and did 5 bosses, they would get 25 guaranteed rares. After the changes, people will only get 5 guaranteed rares from doing 5 alts on 5 bosses. Therefore, this change will bring us back to when dragon chest were NOT changed but with the addition that we now have a guaranteed rare from the chest.

To conclude: the proposed changes will be the same as the old world chest +1 rare per account. AND the chest is now limited to 1 per character so exploiting this is no longer possible as it was previously prior to the feb patch.
