My disappointment with this feature stems from:

In GW1, the explorer titles meant exploring the world map; areas outside the world (Underworld, Fissure of Woe, Domain of Anguish) were not a part of it. The Temple of Balthazar, technically part of the world, was not required. The only PvP areas were two maps in Factions, that could be done on one visit each (although, for a portion of the game’s life, getting Jade Quarry to pop was an exercise in frustration).

Exploring is something to do. At the moment, I’m not bothering to complete the Tyria map because there is no incentive to do so unless I’m willing to also explore in a game mode that I find to be anti-fun. This leaves me with one less thing to do.

Of course an easy fix to this would be to make every realm alternate colors instead of always being the same one, but it seems even Anet cant be bothered to implement this simple solution to help people out.

As a fairy regular WvW player, I have wondered why they didn’t do -exactly- that anyway, and not just for making mapping more accessible. Change is a good thing and getting red castle week after week after week just because we’re the weakest server in our tier is booooring.

Folks, notice something. Few people (if any) are complaining about the 500 badge of honor requirement for getting a legendary.

And as someone else noticed, this is the 10,000th thread on WvW mapping.

This is only tangentially about legendaries, folks.

What this is really about is people who see a bar that says 98% and they want the last 2%.

For people who complain about getting killed, yeah, it’s frustrating and I feel for you, but I don’t feel too bad for you. If it was just about randomly getting ganked, I think I could understand Anet not changing things.

But what a lot of people have to realize is that for some maps, it is really, truly, impossible to take some of the green keeps on Eternal Battlegrounds. I’ve been waiting about a month and checking the map at least once a day.

Completing an achievement should be fun and it should be challenging. It shouldn’t be nigh-impossible.

I shouldn’t be hoping that my server sucks this week and drops a tier. I really shouldn’t.

The problem lies in that you ‘do’ want to do it… you just want it to be easier and or more catered to ‘you’. Cry babies cry.

Read it again. Never said I didn’t like the argument. I said it’s an invalid argument. ’It’s optional" refers to every aspect of GW2. Never said I wanted it to be easier. Said that World Completion (a PvE achievement) should logically be limited to PvE play. Pull up the world map, and you see the world. Except apparently the WvW maps (which don’t appear on the world map) are a part of the world, required for 100% completion. But they’re not there. And, unlike the non-WvW maps, to complete them you have to rely on the efforts of others (PvP), not yourself.

It’s not an “I want it, make it easy for me” argument. It’s a “this doesn’t make any kitten sense” argument.

Who here actually believes this is a display bug? We already had a myriad of things updating a central MF variable, which should feed the loot rolls. So to display this amount you can either:

  • Simply display it (duh).
  • Create a second set of complicated intricate functions that update the display, rather than just display the variable you already have.

We are clearly being lied to; this has clearly been broken since launch.

1) It is a PvP area
2) WvW is not part of the world, it is in the Mists.
3) All PvE exploration can be completed solo while WvW requires groups to take points.
4) If one team remains first for weeks, other teams will have a hard time taking their points to get the exploration.
5) WvW is separated from PvE just like PvP is but we are not required to get PoI in PvP

This is in no way me crying that it is to hard to get these points. I just think that having WvW required for a PvE achievement seems flawed.

For future posters, This is not a topic about getting a Legendary this is a topic about map completion only.

There’s no conspiracy theories to be had. Anet announced flat out that they plan to do level increases. Everyone keeps trying to pretend like that won’t happen, like it will somehow magically go away.

Level increase WILL come. It’s a question of when more than if. Sure, ascended gear is the last tier of gear for now… but be prepared to start from scratch getting that gear again when the expansion comes out :-P

First off thank you Bill for the update. Sorry if we got a little rowdy. I also think I speak for everyone when I say this. I think the main cause for the sudden blow up here on the forum is because it was a sudden change without prior warning. I myself have been playing since the 3 day head start, and absolutely love everything about this game, major props. I also game on three 24 inch screens using eyefinity at 5760 × 1080 and up into now everything has been perfect besides character creation and cut scenes, but you learn to live with that for playing at such an awesome resolution. I got used to playing with how it was, and I think a lot of people did, people don’t like change. You also have to remember that us eyefinity users, arguably, are more passionate about our gaming experience because of the money we have sunk into getting our hardware just they way we like it. What I would like to see is either making it an option of going back to the way it was before the patch or just make the UI user defined. I personally would love to have my map and chat on the insides of my two side screens. That way its not taking up the view on my main screen but just close enough for easy access. Also please allow for the map enlarge to take up all 3 screens again, having it only on your center screen is a waste of real estate.

This had never been a big priority for me until the 4/30 update that totally butchered my experience. I’m an Eyefinity user, and now have the pleasure of having all the UI elements shoved together right in the middle screen… right in my face.

GW2 is a beautiful game, and I’d really like to be able to see more of the environment when I play. Less blocky, ugly, UI…

A robust UI should at the very least include toggles for the different elements. (toggle Mini Map, Toggle Objectives, Toggle Option Icons, toggle toggle toggle..)
In addition the main elements on screen should be at the very least movable and if possible sizable as well.

The only way currently to experience this game without annoying and unnecessary clutter is at max resolution on a large monitor. A UI that has no customization forces people to be limited in their experience of the game world itself by pop ups overlays and larger than needed buttons.

I do not understand why the main avenue for experiencing the game which is the UI can only be altered in a few minimal ways.

Please add UI customization. An option friendly UI is a must for both a games longevity and the user bases comfortability and navigational ease of use with it.

I rushed home from work hoping they would have pushed out a quick fix, but I see all our pleas are being ignored. Wow, I really wish I didn’t fork out hundreds of dollars on gems before you guys pulled this crap.

You are losing the faith of so many customers from your responses and lack of concern for our quality of life in game. The UI is such a MASSIVE part of MMOs. When you break it, you break the entire game. I was totally addicted to this game before this happened, and now I have absolutely no desire to play.

ANet, go and check my access logs and you will see that prior to the patch I was spending TONS of time in game. And now since the patch I’ve been logged in about an hour or less. You’ve ruined the game for me, and because of that I’ve closed my wallet to you. Don’t you understand, you are costing yourselves tons of money by ruining the playability of the game for so many of us.

If you don’t want to lose that income, I recommend you fix the problem ASAP and not wait for the next big patch.

WvW chests Once per account?

honestly they could have removed the 5-10 badges you get from chest and kept it character bound. Those of us that like to do WvW only and do PvE just because we are about to be broke appreciated the fact that we could set up EB jumping puzzle ports to get some siege refilled. Now we can’t even do that. I have to spend 1 hr to farm CoF buy siege instead because WvW itself doesn’t net gold if you upgrading/dropping siege/ buying gear with badges etc.

I have 3 1080p monitors in portrait on nvidia surround sli with titans.. this issue hasn’t been fixed yet.

May I make a suggestion? In order to avoid coding for every surround resolution, can’t we just have a moveable UI for the 5 or 6 static windows on the screen.

“fixed” mine to be playable by adjusting the interface size from small to normal and that moved everything to fit the center screen correctly. World map is limited to one screen but works. Lets just keep moving backwards one day I hope to play at 640×480 with text so large it fills the entire monochrome screen

Quick note first – for all you Eyefinity users who liked the original far left/right UI placement, you can try running your game in “windowed” mode in the UI settings. I don’t particularly like running my game this way since the borders around the window look like crap, but we’ll call this a workaround for now…

Now what I really want is the next ArenaNet employee to post on this thread to answer this one question: How is it even possible that the predecessor to this game has a far superior UI, with totally customizable window size and positioning… and eight years later the sequel doesn’t even come close?

Agreed. Having to physically turn your head to see the chat panel on the left edge of the left monitor is a ridiculous idea.

For many of us, we could care less if the chat window is positioned on the far left and think it’s just as ridiculous to have the chat window and the minimap blocking visibility on the main screen. It’s pretty clear to anyone reading this thread that some of us like the UI centered and others do not. Why, oh why Anet, do you presume that your entire player base wants the same thing?

Please give us the ability to re-position UI elements! At the very least, give your players an option in the settings to toggle the UI back to full screen. Right now, this UI feels like something that should exist on a console…

@GShock GW2 video settings is only reporting available resolutions as given to it by the operating system. When you enable Infinity, the OS sees the combined screens area as a single display.

If in Infinity mode, all applications and games that read available resolutions reported from the OS will give you the capability to operate at all resolutions; whether the applications can adjust and render properly at those resolutions is up to the application. So Anet saying that they do not support multi-displays in accurate in that sense.

Having said that, the way that the UI is coded in GW2 has no facility to re-position static UI elements. What the fix did was to move all the edge items to a relative offset based on 1/x screen resolution. In essence it restored the UI to a single screen with the other ones used as a peripheral viewpoint.

What is really needed to the ability to re-position those fixed UI elements as in the previous GW to accommodate all personal preferences.

I play GW2 using three monitors at a 3840×1024 resolution (1280×1024 times 3) and now the UI is all scrunched up and overlapping on the middle monitor. Changing the interface size does nothing. The interface gets smaller or larger, but the placement/overlapping stays the same.

Previously the UI made the chatbox all the way to the left and the map all the way to the right, while the ability bars were in the middle. Each element showed up on their own monitor and it was a much better use of free UI space. The way it is now the overlapping is making it unplayable and unbearable. Why can’t you just unlock the UI components so we can place them wherever we want on the screen?

As much as I love this game, I can’t play it like this because I can’t see some vital areas of the screen or even click on them properly. I notice that in the character selection screen the characters are normal sized and fit on the screen in their entirety like they would on a single monitor.

I would much rather have it back the way it was, because at least then I could play properly. Please have your developers and testers try it on a multi-monitor setup in both 4:3 ratio and widescreen 16:9 ratio to see what I am talking about.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix this as soon as possible. I can’t bare playing on a single monitor after playing this way for so long. It completely ruins the experience and game for me. I would appreciate it if other multi-monitor users would post their experience. Maybe some work around can be figured out, but I can’t find any .ini or .cfg files that would allow me to change the placement of the UI elements.

a 5-man story dungeon. There are not going to be any raids in Guild Wars 2.

On the other hand, they said you’d never have to grind for power and here we are with ascended items and WoW-styled dungeon gating mechanics.

So, I would be absolutely unsurprised if they ended up adding wow-style instanced 20 – 40 man raids at some point even though they said they wouldn’t.

I would like to suggest some ideas for a PVP style locker available for the skins of items currently available in PVE.

The current implementation of the PVP locker for skins is a fantastic way of being able to store your items obtained from PVP chests, and gives people with a collector mentality a drive to collect every available piece of equipment.

From a PVE perspective skins for each item needs to be collected and then combined with items of the appropriate stat make up. In the process one of the items is effectively destroyed. This severely limits people’s desire to chop and change their appearance, as they need to regrind / purchase the item that was effectively destroyed in the combination process.

I understand that the current system is in place partly as a way for Anet to make money from the purchase of both the transmutation crystal, and bank space to store the armour / weapon pieces. I fully support their current model to make money, and find it a much better way than a monthly subscription.

What I propose is a PVE locker system, that you can use a transmutation crystal (or something similar) to save the items current skin, as well as stat combination into a bank. The price of the item required to enter the skin in the bank should be commensurate with the current cost of storing that item in your personal bank / use of transmutation crystal as it is now.

This will give a powerful drive to those PVE players who have a compulsion to acquire every skin available in the game. This will lead to a higher income for Anet, as I can guarantee that my use of the transmutation crystal would increase dramatically (I am sure I am not the only one!).

From the PVE skin locker, skins of items already saved can be combined with stat combinations in the bank to create armour items with a transmutation crystal (or something similar). This will make it less arduous in swapping specs that require different stat allocations.

Given Arena nets current implantation is that most gear becomes character bound, the PVE locker will probably be character bound, but I would like to see discussion about whether skins can be available account wide, but may be stats for each armour slot being character bound – so that you can make your alts look great, but still need to work to get exotic / ascended level of armour for them.

Recombined armour probably should be non-salvageable to prevent their conversion into ecto’s but given the cost of the transmutation crystal this wouldn’t be a viable gold making strategy

Suggested Pricing

I have run some numbers for the cost of each step of the process that will give an idea of how much we are currently paying to store items in the bank.

I would suggest that they make a new item, that will allow you to take an item and break it into:

Skin for that slot
Stats for that slot

and store those into your PVE locker. It would use an item that cost 100 Gems for an item with 5 uses (half what a transmutation crystal costs)

This equates to 20 gems per item stored – which is what we are currently paying for a single bank slot i.e. – 600 gems buys you 30 bank slots.

For use the skin – keep the transmutation crystal at the current cost of 200 gems / 5 uses.

IMO, this is a terrible idea. Not because you’re attempting to address a big issue, but rather that the so called compromise highlights the flaws of your system design and the fact that any attempted fix is just shifting the burden from one group to another rather then eliminating that burden in the first place.

Also, why the heck are some of you Euro players trying to turn this into a “us” vs “them” issue with the NA players? Just because NA players are complaining about the change doesn’t mean they want you to continue being screwed by the reset times.

All of us should be directing our complaints to ANET instead of to each other.

It shouldn’t be that freaking hard to have separate reset times unless they literally have a monkey manually doing it every week and on’t want to wear him out. If that is the case, then they need to seriously reevaluate this process and work to improve it.

As it stands now, this change shifts the problem away from one group into the laps of another. It is a garbage solution for everyone.

Separate times are the best way really.

You say this new time will hugely affect NA players; but then do you not think EU players having to stay up at 2am is a much greater affect at the current time?

This new time means a lot more EU players can be on at reset as they wont be asleep, whilst NA will have to wait a couple hours to get back from work/school on the west coast.

If Anet are not going to give separate times, then this new time is the next best thing, not the current time, which is way too late for EU.

Macros, you can use them as long as they arent macros.
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.

No no no. This is really bad move for those on the west coast in the US. I think there should be 2 options:

1. Leave it as it is
2. Create separate reset times for NA vs EU. This is the preferred solution.
