LOL—pure theft!!! Retail price is 25

Not theft. Not a troll.

Amazon can sell it to you for same ingame prices because they most likely buy it at a reduced price in much larger bulk directly from arenanet and can sell to a larger population.

Seller most likely can/does not buy in a large enough bulk from arenanet(if at all) to get a discount from them to make a profit. Thus the seller has to sell for higher price to hopefully gain a profit.

If you dont understand that then you have never attempted to sell anything on ebay.
Never worked in a small store only to have a walmart/home depot pop up.

That price is not theft. And considering that the seller has only made (48434 sales) in its lifetime and is competing against Amazon I would buy it from them just to support a small company. If I werent a cheap bum who could get 2000gems for less than $25

Give me a break. you’d spend 52$ (with tax and delivery to be added as well)for a 25$ item??? He’s likely bought all up the stock from legitimate retail store and artificially ups the price to look make a quick buck. It was 30 dollars a few months ago, then 35,now 52+. You could get double the gems plus free delivery if amazon would bother to stock them.
If he wants to sell it on ebay more power to him/her. But for a lagre retail site to allow that kind of rip off for 3rd party sellers instead of stocking the item is wrong.
There is a sucker born every minute, I won’t be one of them, but feel free to support him if you have that much disposible income.

Darn flippers on Amazon.

I’ve read the thread, it’s not actually about inflation, but a misunderstanding of what indicators of inflation are, it’s about precursor prices.

I don’t understand what point you’re making here? You’re saying veteran players are upset about the economy, because you’ve heard that from people. It seems your primary concern is that TP flipping is the only way to make money and that’s upsetting people? We’ve discussed in great depth why that isn’t true.

John, I think it’s a losing battle trying to explain things like this to certain players. We’ve done our best to try and explain to these players that their misunderstandings about the economy lead to misapplied “solutions” to problems that don’t exist.

How do you feel about non item based trade, such as the selling of services, player to player.
like dunegeon completion, puzzle portals, guided tours, whatever else people can come up with.

Would you ever attempt to formalize the system?

but there is no way you have the numbers to claim that the players think so, from a psychological perspective.

You’re adorable.

Economists have ways to measure how much your parents love you and the scariest part of all… it works.

I’ve gotten a lot of mixed feedback about this comment and I wanted to agree that it’s unnecessary. It’s an overly caustic response to an accusation (which isn’t the worst thing in the world), but it’s been pointed out that this isn’t a two way street which changes the situation entirely (and makes it really bad). My community team are saints and allow me the time and medium to interact with the players, I’ll be focusing more on providing positive responses as much as I’m able.

Hi John,

How does wealth / material distribution affect how you think about sinks?

For example, I imagine that gaining wealth for the sake of gaining wealth could be, under some circumstances, be very similar to a sink – as wealth and materials are held outside the market. The problem being that at anytime those materials and gold could flood back in. Or is this a self-correcting problem that you don’t need to worry about?

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

Guide: Efficient Geode Train (Dry Top)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RlyOsim.2497

RlyOsim.2497

Hi All,

I’ve been commanding a lot of trains in Dry Top recently in order to get geodes. The route contained below is what I’ve found to be the most efficient, hitting 2-3 events per 5 minutes. I wanted to post it up in case there were any other aspiring PvE commanders/general players looking to get a greater amount of geodes per 5 minutes.
The events are listed in the order you do them. Without any issues along the way it will result in a Tier 4 map. This path works best with a large, high dps group.

Starting at xx:00
Tendril A [&BHMHAAA=] (Always for this Tendril you need to stack outside its spawn range, this causes it to spawn in with much weaker mobs. I find stacking at the end of the ramp by where the Basket event starts to be the most efficient)
Tendril B [&BIYHAAA=]
Shaman [&BIsHAAA=]

Starting at xx:05
Light Golem [&BIMHAAA=]
Inquest Leader [&BIwHAAA=]
Colocal [&BHwHAAA=]

Starting at xx:10
Town [&BH4HAAA=]
Basket [&BHUHAAA=] (Here you may get champ spawn which confirmed drop loot. Also, due to time constraints this is generally best of start on your own while the main group is still at town in order to progress it a bit before the many players arrive. In this regard I will typically stay with the town group until the first mob is dead then rush to start basket on my own).

Starting at xx:15
Tendril A [&BHMHAAA=] (Again, make sure you stack outside of spawn range)
Tendril B [&BIYHAAA=]
Race [&BHIHAAA=] (The champs that spawn here do not drop bags, there is little point in focusing them)

Starting at xx:20
Light Golem [&BIMHAAA=]
Inquest Leader [&BIwHAAA=]
Colocal [&BHwHAAA=]

Starting at xx:25
Town [&BH4HAAA=]
Basket [&BHUHAAA=] (SEE PREVIOUS NOTE ON THIS EVENT).

Starting at xx:30
Tendril A [&BHMHAAA=] (Again, make sure you stack outside of spawn range)
Tendril B [&BIYHAAA=]
Race [&BHIHAAA=] (The champs that spawn here do not drop bags, there is little point in focusing them)

Starting at xx:35
Light Golem [&BIMHAAA=]
Inquest Leader [&BIwHAAA=]
Colocal [&BHwHAAA=]

Starting at xx:40
Haze [&BHIHAAA=]
CaveIn [&BH4HAAA=]

Starting at xx:45
(I always try to find Burglar during this 5 minute window, ask in chat often if anyone has seen it)
Devourer Queen [&BHkHAAA=]

Starting at xx:50
Haze [&BHIHAAA=]
SkrittQueen [&BIoHAAA=]
SDust [&BHoHAAA=]

Starting at xx:55
Generally here I spend 5 minutes chest hunting/buying t4 stuff/taxiing people looking for a t4 map.

That’s it! I hope this is of help to some!

The Ghost of Christmas Past

The TP, a "philosophical" question.

Posted by: Illconceived Was Na.9781

Illconceived Was Na.9781

In answer to the OP, yes, I find that the TP as currently structured is a good match for the kind of social system/philosophy the rest of the game is based on.

  • You play how you like (for the most part).
  • You can sell most of the stuff you can’t use on the TP for market rates.
  • You can buy most of the stuff you want or need on the TP for market rates.
  • You don’t have to care at all about the economy, because other people do that for you, including John Smith (in a role that few other games support) and including market players (whose actions end up removing a ton of gold from the game and also keep prices more even than they would be without a “free” market).

That’s pretty close to the ideal setup for the state of MMOs in 2014, in my opinion.

As an addendum, keep in mind that market “players” (speculators, flippers, etc) exist in every MMO’s economy. The difference in GW2 is that their actions are public, whereas in other MMOs, they are hidden. This allows the market to adjust to manipulation attempts far faster than in other games.

I’m not saying all speculation is good nor am I saying that market players are altruistic heroes. I am saying that the TP allows people to behave like…humans do (some greedy, some not) and still end up with a largely positive result for the vast majority of players.

I think there’s often a lot of public reaction about savvy trading (and how much some people earn from it), because it’s so easy to see. In other games, it happens behind the scenes, so that most people don’t even realize how much better it is in GW2.

Hi John!

Cool idea, would love to hear some of your experiences when creating the BLTP

Can you explain how you started designing the BLTP when approached by Anet? Like how big was/is your team, how many variants and iterations did you come up with and how different were they? Did you have to change some aspects that make perfect sense economically but didn’t fit lore?
If there have been others, what were the alternative names for the BLTP?
How many hours aprox did you spend working with sound engineers & audio artists?
How much gold do you have in game?

Angel’s post was really interesting

Questions aren’t about the current economy, still fits the spirit of the thread I hope. More than one because I don’t want a specific answer.

Question:
Do you care/will do something about the fact game economy is really perceived as broken?
Or if you instead think its well perceived, why don’t you look at every single thread that had the luck to remain for few hours in general section?

There were many threads about how important economy perception is in a videogame.

If by “really perceived” you mean that you mistakenly perceive a fantastic and functioning system as broken, then no… I don’t care.

How to sell an item on the TP

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Omnitek.3876

Omnitek.3876

This is going to sound crazy to most of the people here.. but hear me out. It seems, that the majority of players don’t understand how to sell items on the TP. This is a very very very basic guide on how to sell an item properly. You can take some of this info, twist it a little, and flip items. This is selling only. Not buying.

First, Every item that is not soul/account bound has a potential cash (Ingame gold) value. Yes, that last statement means I am a TP flipper. I am going to show you how to almost maximize your items value with MINIMAL work. Disclaimer: This does not encompass extremely high value items, very rare, or very volatile markets or speculation. This is for your everyday item drops you get when you dungeon/explore/Whatever else you fancy.

At this time, please view the attached screenshot. This is a screenshot what pulls up when I right click an item in my inventory and select the option “Sell at the Trading Post”. Edit: I have no idea why I put a red circle on it….

We have all seen this, but most people don’t understand it, so lets break it down in a simple way. You have 4 options for your item on this screen(we only care about 1 or 2 though). Lets talk about all of them. Pros and Cons!

Meet highest buyer: Someone is willing to pay 73c for your item right now. You press the button, you get your money, minus 15% TP fee. Very easy to understand.
Pro: You get your money now
Con: You settle for 66c(minus the listing fee of 4c) instead of 2s.
This is the option that makes flipping items on the TP possible. It is bad. You should never use this option unless you need the money right this second. (there is an advanced reason why you might use it. This is Selling 101 though.)

Match lowest seller: Very complicated, but I am going to simplify and link it to the above option. You think 73c is too low for your item, and think that 2s21c is fair. Click this button if you don’t have 3 seconds to spare for option 3.
Pro: You get more money than Option 1.
Con: It isn’t instant. You will have to wait for the 7 already listed to sell before yours will.

Setting your own price: Exactly what the title says. Click match highest seller and lower price 1c below. (tip: if you click the copper field at the top and press down arrow or mouse wheel down, the price will lower by 1c)
Pro: You will sell your item before the 7 already listed and get more money than Option 1.
Con: It takes 3 seconds to change the price.

Last option: Close the TP and don’t sell your item. You would use this when The price of the item to a vendor is more than you would get minus TP fees.

Why would you ever click Meet highest buyer after reading this? I’m serious. Please tell me the reason. I want to know.

To all of you “Master Traders”: I know it can be more intricate than this. I made it as simple as I could.

Another Disclaimer: This is an actual item I flip on the TP. I am a flipper. If everyone did this, it would force the highest buyer and lowest seller prices closer together for lots of items. It would ruin my profits. But, I would guess 99.9% of the population will never see or understand the concepts posted here, so I am not worried at all. You will not become rich overnight. This will increase how much money you make. The little things add up.

Plus, this will be buried by the “Market Rigged” “Market Controlled” “Flipping is bad” “The economy is bad, here is how to fix” threads all over the forum

It was due to an exploit letting people list stuff on the TP without paying the listing fee.
And nobody was banned for that afaik.
Few (really few) were burnt selling few precursors for 2 silvers when the exploit was stealth fixed.

A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

What is the purpose in trying to even the balance of player wealth? This isn’t real life where rich use poor people for labor and service. What is the justification for this in a game?

Who cares how much game money a player makes? Players who spend way more time in the game are easily going to have way more money than players who don’t play as much. All players coming into the game start with 0 gold, and will have far less money than players who have been in the game since release. Who cares?

Likewise, if somebody starts the game, and plays once per week, he won’t level as much or have as much gold as a player who plays every day.

I’m about to be level 24. The fact that many players are max level with tons more gold than me doesn’t really affect my ability to play, level up, and make lots of gold the same way as those who have played for a much much longer time than I have.

It also depends on activity. Somebody spending most of their time adventuring or playing PvP/WvW all day won’t have as much money as somebody crafting and playing with the BLT all day.

Some players play on the BLT because it’s fun and rewarding to make lots of gold. I personally find it a fun and enjoyable part of the game. Some players enjoy running around the train thing all day which I find to be anything but fun.

I guarantee you that somebody playing on BLT will make more money than somebody running around the train. Yet will not gain nearly as much XP or level up remotely as fast.

The idea of trying to even out wealth makes no sense if it’s up to each player how they want to build their character, and how they play the game. If they want to play WvW, PvP, adventure, fast level, great. They will level fast, and build a high level character. If they want to make lots of gold, they do the things in the game that will make them lots of gold.

There’s a huge pleth of characters of different levels and different income all around. All regardless of any players who have leveled up to the top or made a million gold. Most of the players in the game will be poor because that’s how the game starts you out and continues to provide opportunities for gaining and spending gold.

If you want to spend all day crafting and playing on the BLT, then do it, and make millions of gold. If you want to spend all day adventuring and playing PvP/WvW, then don’t complain about others who are massing up way more money then you. Because you could be doing the exact same thing they’re doing to make lots of money in GW2.

Yes real life is completely different. There definitely needs to be something done to stop the rich from destroying the planet and human lives all over the world. However, in game, this isn’t an issue.

I have enjoyed all aspects of the game thus far including how the BLT operates to give me the ability to make extra money by making it easy to buy gear from other players or sell garbage that I find or craft to other players. I even spent 95 silver on gems in hopes of selling them when they eventually increase in value (which turned out to be really dumb/terrible way to make money because of how long it will take for the price to rise enough to profit beyond their unnaturally enormous spread).

I am not actually sure, if the API allows us to track how many buy orders and sell listings of an item get filled in real time.
If that is some kind of information Anet doesnt want us to know, this solution might not be very good because it allows players to more or less acurately determine when an item sold last.

It’s theoretically possible using the listings.json API. The issue would be your sampling rate. That API will return the top 20 Buy Orders and Sell Listings for a single Item ID with the following information:

  • Price
  • Quantity
  • Listings

It will return a maximum of 20 price “buckets” on both the buy and sell side, the quantity in each one of those “buckets”, and listings is the number of buyers or sellers (I think). If you were able to sample an Item ID fast enough you could see when there is a change in price, or a change in quantity…..allowing you to calculate the approximate time the last item sold….again based on your sampling rate.

From what I have noticed using that API myself, I can request about 100 Item ID’s before I have to reset the connection and log back in. Those 100 requests take about 5-10 seconds. I’m no programmer and I doubt my code is running as efficiently as possible. That’s also a ballpark guess as I don’t sit there with a stopwatch and run my code.

If you were wanting to monitor ALL of the items on the Trading Post continually, I fear the sampling rate between samples would be too low to give you an accurate assessment. If you limited the number of items you were getting that information for, you could increase the sampling rate on each one….limited by the API itself of course. I’ve seen a post in a different thread asking how many requests per second is “ok”….I think the result was 5 requests per second, but don’t quote me on that.

The proposals I’ve read so far seem to be a plea for a type of government controlled trade restrictions, where the government (ANet) actively restricts trade (stops people from undercutting at will) in order to protect a privileged group (people who have listed earlier than others). The people who are harmed by this price protections are

a) the people who wish to list later for a cheaper price (they have to list at a lower price than they would prefer, therefore taking a loss) or
b) match the higher price (therefore not selling as fast as they wanted) in spite of wishing to sell lower because they don’t want to sell at the mandated lower price.
The other people who are harmed are
c) the buyers who don’t get the sales from group b) because they listed at the higher price.

What I haven’t seen is a reasonable argument saying why the privileged group (the earliest sellers) deserves a better price protection from the government (ANet) and a better deal for their goods (higher prices and faster sales) than the later sellers and the buyers.

History has consistently shown that government imposed trade restrictions increase prices, making goods more expensive and economies more rigid. The arguments I’ve seen here are from people who are upset that their goods are not selling at the prices they want at the speed they want but that is never a good reason for trade restrictions.

Skye Marin.3250

Hello all!

I’m Skye. I make replica props and I’m super excited for the new content drop appearing on April 15th!

In fact, I’m so excited that I’ve decided to give away a Real-Life Steel and Leather Nine Pound Fellblade to the winner of this friendly Trading Post competition.

Here are the rules – Please Read Carefully:

  • Pick any one item to invest in (could be a type of rune, sigil, weapon, etc.)
  • On the TP purchase screen, select a quantity that will push the total price just over 5 gold total. You can dial in an exact number if you wish. Spend less than 7.5g.
  • Take a screenshot showing the total cost. Do Not Forget To Take This Screenshot!
  • You must buy from sell orders – you may not buy through a buy order. Example is below.
  • For that price, buy it – From this point on, you are not allowed to buy any more of this item until the contest is over.
  • Take all that you bought, and post the entire quantity on the trading post in a single “sell order”. Sell the entire quantity at one price. Choose your price wisely. Set it as high as you think you can sell out at by the deadline.
  • Take a screenshot of your “What I’m selling” tab. Do Not Forget To Take This Screenshot! Keep it in a safe place
  • Post your Total screenshot to this forum thread before 11:59pm EST on April 14th.
  • Wait for the Update on the 15th – the markets will react!
  • Before 11:59 EST April 18th, post a picture of your TP history, showing how many of your items sold for the price you set or take a picture of your favourite TP tracker, showing you sold out.
  • The highest positive percent Return on Investment wins!

Entry requirements:

  • The item you choose can be any one thing found on the trading post.
  • On your entering post list your:
  • Full item name
  • Quantity and total purchase price (with “Total” screenshot)
  • Listed selling price (hold onto your “What I’m Selling” screenshot)
  • If your purchase fails, stitch together screenshots and do your best to communicate your entry.
  • Return on Investment formula is:
[(Listed selling price)*(Qty sold) – (Total Purchase Price)] / (Total Purchase Price) x 100%
  • One entry per person – make it count!
  • Multiple entrants may pick the same item, but should have different purchase and sell prices.
  • For a winner to be declared, that winner must have a positive RoI
  • If you post an attempt to enter once and fail, you get one more chance to re-enter.
  • FAILURE to post your SCREENSHOT means NO ENTRY – You have been told!
  • These rules may change for clarification. If you have a question, ask!
  • If the case where the current first place winner is not clearly disqualified, but not clearly the winner, it will be the job of the next runner-up to decide if that winner should be disqualified.
  • This contest is for one fabricated Fellblade – Shipped to Canada or the US (If you live outside of Canada or the US, we’ll work out shipping)
  • If you know that you can’t receive or own a heavy steel Fellblade-shaped object, simply don’t enter
  • Please don’t cheat. Winning entries will be checked against market histories.
  • If you’re willing to spend thousands of gold at a chance at this Fellblade, drop me a line at info@heroicreplicas.com instead, and I will make one for you outright!
  • I reserve the right to disqualify entries for shadyness.
