New players have a lot of restrictions we didn’t have. They have less character slots. They can’t buy whatever they want on the trading post. They can’t send money or items in the mail.

The game, the whole game, was on sale for $10 three times anyway. I played this game for 3 years and got 3 years worth of entertainment out of it. I experienced things new players never got to see. By logging in during the Living Story Season 2 I got that for free.

You’re not out money by getting in 3 years early. You’re far far ahead of new people just starting out.

I honestly don’t get these posts.

Give them something else to do. They are obviously bored. Hehe.

Can Anet please, please remove the annoying non spesific NPC’s around Trading Post NPC’s, Bank NPC’s and probably other daily useable npc’s. Specially in Lions Arch, ever 1/2 times i run over to either bank or trading post i end up talking to the random npc who does nothing but standing there.

thumb this up or write something if you agree. this needs attention and i specially don’t see the need for a useless NPC who does nothing other then interrupting you pressing “F” 5 times to try talking to the npc’s you need.

i have done 2 events , got gold reward on second event , except one time, never got a drop or a chest, and telling ppl that it takes a week to get it in the mail is not a viable answer, when everyone else is getting stacks of blooms, this event is a joke, this expansion is starting to look like a joke.

And it has been worth every penny.

Good for you, free-to-players – but you weren’t there when the Mad King burst out of the fountain in LA.

You didn’t get to play choir bell guitar hero at Wintersday.

You didn’t have a GM watch you glitch on top of the old mystic forge and whisper you to say ‘hey buddy, get down from there’

The thousands of hours I’ve played – I would’ve paid 10 times the £60 or so I was charged on release.

Well played, Anet

Today is your birthday. It is a great moment to reflect on your past time, present moments and future life, with memories spent on GuildWars2.

Now it is the time to ask yourself why have you not manage to create a legendary or ascended so far. Now it is the time to brace yourself, take courage and be brave. Now it is the time to wake up from dreaming about obtaining everything for free. Now it is the time to enjoy life, appreciating every reward the game has to offer with hard work.

Get up, and take a leap of faith in hard thinking and rewarding work to create a legendary or ascended.

Rise! Rise as a great player of GuildWars2!

This is a good opportunity to make use of the newly-added “displacement” mechanics present in revenant skill. Make the elite something like “Seven Winds” (type: Arcane), displacing foes caught in whirlwinds scattered around the area which rapidly move in random locations. Displaced foes receive damage equal to Lightning Rod.

The Hitpoint System is Outdated.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aetrion.8295

Aetrion.8295

Healers in Guild Wars 2 are in a bad spot. They aren’t useful, and any attempt to make them useful gets negative reactions because people don’t want them to be required.

The problem is not with the healers however, it’s with the way the hitpoint system works.

Hitpoints currently only have one function:

  • If you have hitpoints you are alive.
  • If you don’t have hitpoints you are dead.

This is the root of the problem.

You cannot benefit from gaining more hitpoints unless you would die without them!

Guild Wars 2 does not want to make healers mandatory, but because of the primitive way hitpoints work healers cannot possibly be useful without being mandatory.

If hitpoints had more different effects than just being alive or dead a healer could be useful even if people wouldn’t die without the heals.

  • Maybe you could spend a portion of your hitpoints to reduce your cooldowns.
  • Maybe you could gain boon duration when you stay topped off on health.
  • Maybe you could receive a buff for being healed past 100%.

There are hundreds of possible ways hitpoints could have other effects than just life/death that would make getting more hitpoints desirable without killing you if you don’t have them.

The hitpoint system as it currently exists is just as old and outdated as the trinity. In fact, hitpoints governing nothing but when characters die is the whole reason why the trinity exists in games. It’s time to change that!

I am a veteran, I survived

I was there for the first rollout of Jade Dragon skins in the gemstore, when there was no account wardrobe. Back when you couldn’t “keep skins.” Lo and behold, account wardrobe comes out with very little forewarning, and I find out I permanently lost several expensive weapon skins because I had reskinned my main weapon to preserve my stats.

I was there when my entire collection of RP townclothes was blown up and turned into useless tonics because of the wardrobe overhaul. Town clothes could have easily been added to the wardrobe as armor pieces or even the outfit tab.

I was there for the 1 year of Living Story S1 that ran us on an insane content treadmill that was nearly impossible to complete while having a full time job due to temporary content constantly being removed. As a result I have so many unfinished achievements and missed out on temporary content items.

I was there when the NGE edition of the game came out and introduced a horrible leveling system for alts. I was there to spend hundreds of skillpoints and gold on unlocks for characters when the new system came out and just unlocked everything at 80 for free.

I was there when the horrible fractured update came out and rolled fractal progression backwards to level 30 even though I was already at max level. I was forced to rerun all of the fractals again and deal with those horrible mistlock instabilities for even lower drop rates than before – just to get back where I originally was.

I was there for when the entire skill system was blown up and revamped, losing some of my best PvE/WvW/PvP builds to make room for specializations and a new meta that is even more imbalanced than the old.

I am a veteran, I survived.

Now I wonder, when is the next time that someone decides that an older system is useless and they are just going to remove it and roll back my progression?

When is the next time that one of my characters is going to be rendered useless or I’m going to lose something valuable “for the greater good” of the game?

When are the developers going to finally decide on a stable framework for the game and reliable core systems that I can build progression on without wondering if its going to get nuked in the future?

When I can I ever get a sense of stability or trust for the systems of this game?

When I can be a veteran and not feel punished or lose out for sticking around?

Oh it’s a joke. It needs a small change to make it perfect.

(1): +25% Magic Find
(2): +10% Swiftness Duration
(3): +50% Magic Find
(4): 25% chance when struck to shout by using skritt’s voice – “Plan Failed!” and gain swiftness for 15 seconds (Cooldown: 30s)
(5): +100% Magic Find
(6): +100% chance for a random precursor to appear beside you when you die. It disappears by the time it takes to rez you. If you waypoint and run back, it disappears just as you get within area loot range.

I promise you, everyone who uses this version will be highly amused.

Please improve Staff non-fire attunements

Air, Water, and Earth are all weaker than they should be for the utility provided IMO. You are forced way too commonly to treat Fire as your fallback attunement and to stay in it disproportionately to keep up damage pressure.

#1-3 are all under-tuned on Air. Chain Lightning is too slow, Lightning Surge has too long of a cast time, and Gust is way too situational – it should at least have broader targeting and knockdown/cripple targets. The autos on Water and Earth sacrifice too much DPS for the healing/utility provided and need to be buffed substantially.

Low level more powerful than down scaled

Blood Red Arachnid.2493

The thing that I find troubling is the implication that “AC P1 80s only exp” is the preferred mode instead of just “AC P1 exp” for so many people. But I digress.

We’re not looking at the whole picture here. We’re looking at just power. What also should be included is versatility and defense. But first, a little history lesson: What you’re seeing in lowbie dungeons now is closer to how it originally was in the first place. The utter faceroll that 80s could pump out in sub CoF dungeons was the product of the scaling changes that occurred awhile ago. It was roughly the same time the ferocity change if I remember correctly. Yes, this scaling change made it so high levels utterly plowed through everything at lower level, so much so that there are videos of Ele’s soloing Ascalon Catacombs in 8 minutes.

So, lets take a look at a more direct comparison. I’m going to be using the two necromancers, since that set of images actually has similar classes.

Power: 17% lower
Precision: 75% higher
Vitality: 60% higher
Toughness 60% higher
Ferocity: Some vs. none
Malice: some vs. none
Healing power: some vs. none

Armor: 33% higher
Health: 75% higher
Crit Chance: 73% higher
Crit damage: 4% higher

Effective Power: 102.5 (level 80) vs. 116 (level 2) = 12% loss
Effective Health: 140,732 (level 80) vs. 60,003 (level 2) 135% gain.

Now, this is limited, but there’s another thing to consider: At higher levels, the necromancer gains access to all of their traits and utilities. A lower level necromancer doesn’t have those things. So, no fury in DS, no 20% increase against half dead enemies, no self might stacking against half dead enemies, no piercing life blast, etc.

The end result is that toons at their appropriate level have, on face value, more power at the sacrifice of everything else in substantial quantities.

Now personally, I wouldn’t mind if lowbies were as strong or stronger than scaled down 80s. Leveling up to curb stomp lower level competition is an antiquated model that Arenanet purposefully built away from in the first place. At higher levels you still get more gear choices, more build choices, more utilities, more access to the game, and more skins. Downscaling exists solely to make it so higher level players can play alongside of lower level players without being overpowered.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

The "entitlement" meme needs to stop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: savageschemer.1036

savageschemer.1036

People throwing around the word “entitlement” in the HoT pre-purchase discussion(s) really should learn what the word means. Entitlement in the ongoing community discussion would be, “I’m a veteran player, therefore I should get the expansion for free”. That’s not, as near as I’ve been able to tell, what one single person over hundreds of pages of threads has said. Instead the ENTIRE discussion has been, “if ArenaNet wants my money, then something needs to change”.

That “something” has been different for different people joining in the discussion, and is central to the debate. For some its that the price is too high no matter what. For others, they want ArenaNet to “sweeten the pot” a bit before they commit their hard-earned money to a purchase (which is how business negotiation and trade works). Others still feel the value being offered in the product punishes the very people who’ve provided ArenaNet with past revenue over those that have never provided them any revenue. Finally there are those who feel the product for its price is completely fair as-is. I assume most of the "entitlement’ meme repeaters fit into this last category. These are all examples of people making value statements.

To reiterate, the discussion this community has been having, then, is 100% based on the exchange of money for a product, making the entire discussion one of value by definition, not entitlement. So please, please stop using the “entitlement” meme if you’re one of the people who disagrees with the value statement being made by others in our community. It just makes you look ignorant.

By the same logic, veteran players should get a free copy of HoT to make it easier to get into it.
