I’ll be very clear here:
If a GM finds a player that is using a “Safe Spot”, that player will be moved out of the safe spot and warned (via in-game text). If they are caught again, that account will be temporarily suspended. If a GM finds a player that is using a “Safe Spot” and selling the dungeon run, that account will be temporarily suspended without warning.
If Anet is spending time and money on “hall monitors” I think that the focus has been grossly bent. Perhaps there should be more time/attention/money placed on fixing issues with this game that affect game play and not as a virtual police force banning people paying for and playing in an environment that the Developers did not fully vet – ie, QA testing with the mindset of a player instead of a developer.
Humanity is a storytelling culture. I personally like to think that we’ve all got an inner writer just waiting to be let out.
So, I thought I’d bring forward a question.
What’s your story? – A Forum Game
Let’s not stick to the Personal Story set forth by the game. Who is your character really?
What is their name?
What does your character look like? (Include a picture)
Do you imagine a particular song to be related to them (a character themesong)?
How did they grow up, or do they lack childhood memories entirely?
How and why did they start fighting?
What do they do in the world of Tyria?
What are their goals and aspirations?
What is their claim to fame, if any?
What are their personal beliefs?
What relationships do they hold?
What do they struggle with?
And more. The sky is the limit.
Or, you could just write a little excerpt that shows who they are.
Just share something. Anything. And have fun with it.

The vines maybe harmless now but just you wait …..after 4 or 5 weeks you will log into the game to find your character laying dead on the character selection screen with a thorny vine around his/her throat …and how can you “fix” this catastrophe? simple by buying Evon Gnashblade’s guaranteed super duper weedkiller for the cheap cheap price of 500 gems in the store ….if any Anet employee reads this comment please please disregard it , I do not want to give you ideas :P
I think she’s still just a manifestation. Her gasping and getting hurt represents the tree itself getting damaged.
This is true. The avatar is a visible representation of the Pale Tree that allows her to interact with her visitors and children. When she was injured, it was represented visibly by her avatar. In many ways, the avatar is her “face”. It’s not her entire body or being.
When sylvari run to the avatar, it’s because that’s their point of contact with the vast creature that is their Mother Tree.
Good thinking too, Electro, about the chamber being almost like the “heart” of the Pale Tree.
I hope you get to read this.
Personally I think the whole storytelling you have been doing is really nicely done, I really enjoy picking up pieces of a story here and there and gathering them to a large picture all the way speculating on the implications of the pieces.
The way the information is spread in visuals, sound and text is really nicely done, the games strong side is the artwork in narrative, visuals, sound and how that interacts with the actual gameplay and mechanics.
I really enjoy the art in this game, keep it up.
Omphalos means “naval” though if you take it literally but “heart” as the “centre of things” is close enough I guess.
I’m starting to think that these praising comments are made by bribed people or something. That’s how unbelievable they sound.
Just face the facts. This game ain’t doing well,
I’m tired of the problems.
I’ll give it until the new WoW expansion is released.
In sure it’s not the developers fault and may be that they are restricted and controlled by managers or ncsoft.
So why should I suffer with them when I could play a game that’s thriving ?

Mawdrey needs the nomad stats added to the drop down choices. If you’ve already got an ascended back peace, Mawdrey, as cute as she is, seems superfluous. Adding the choice of Nomad stats to her, would make her worth grinding for just to have that uniqueness in your collection. Otherwise, she’s just a skin and a massive gold sink. It also, wouldn’t hurt if the she occasionally shouted out with an audio clip “FEED ME!” Just because.
But Audrey 2, I mean Maudrey 2 wouldn’t hurt a fly….

It probably is a huge blow to ANet’s ego when people care more about a side game than the actual game itself.
Personally I uninstalled shortly after they announced in an interview they have no immediate plans to bring SAB back anytime soon, but I only gave this game a second chance because of SAB to begin with.
As much as I enjoyed looking at all the rioting pictures, I feel that asking for SAB is just making them not want to do it, much like a six year old that was told to clean his room. The SAB subject in general is one of the most questioned aspects of the game and not until recently was it even addressed.
Give up on asking for it and just wait for it to come naturally in another 6 months when they run out of ideas.
The community was actually pretty quiet, We were all willing to sit back and wait for updates because lets be honest, These last few LS have been pretty awsome….aaaand then they dropped SAB. Something they already made, and that just blew our minds. A lot of players aren’t just raging to get what they want, they’re raging because things that they like in the game get removed and then…ya know what? Posting on this forum probably doesn’t even matter I’m going to go play (Insert some older retro game with jumping).
Trying to justify a hissy fit is just another indication of a lack of maturity in my opinion.
Calling the expression of anger a hissy fit is unfair. Sure, some people are being immature, but simply being angry isn’t. The lack of communication has been a problem that has become worse and worse. People have become increasingly upset, and the latest interview pushed a lot over the edge.
ANet have demonstrated that they are willing to simply ignore their customers. Polite discourse has failed (and many, many people have been polite. The people who behaved badly do not justify ignored the majority of a consumer base), so being louder is the only practical alternative.
Of course, it is possible to express anger in an immature way, and I do not defend that. But the expressions of anger I have seen recently seem largely sensible enough.
Yes. The moment of seeing her fall over as the dragon attacked drove me to kill that thing as quickly as I could, even if the fight wasn’t timed. And the thought she is dying, and might die for good, pulled at my heartstrings. The only leader that didn’t come up with some stupid excuse to not help us, the only one that was kind to all visitors, regardless of race, and she’s the one they put in peril.
Jerk move ArenaNet…but well played.
Unless I’ve completely misunderstood the Avatar of the tree is just a projection she uses to speak with her children and anyone else who comes to see her. The actual Pale Tree is the huge tree that covers most of the Grove.
From the looks of things she’s taken a lot of damage but is still standing. And trees can take a lot of damage. Even if the entire trunk is broken as long as there’s enough of the sap wood still connected they can heal and go on growing.

Im not ok with giving away Taimi’s hard work, even if its for the greater good, I would just make them with my Might. I goes against things I believe in.
Trahearne, even with the wooden/monotone voice acting is 10 times better than Marjory, Kasmeer and Braham.
I just want to see some more kittening emotion in his voice – the character is good but the VA really lets him down tbh. Such unbelievably awkward intonation and lack of emotion.
To be honest, ArenaNet missed a really great opportunity during the endgame instance, in order to make Trahearne liven up a bit. I think the roles between Trahearne and the Player character should’ve been reversed… The player should’ve been the ones contemplating, while Trahearne telling us to loosen up.
Why does everyone want to go back to the days of dead or nearly dead zones? Go play a single player then.

Still running into non-TCers that troll RP when they see it.
Anet’s silence makes it clear they don’t care at all about their most dedicated section of players.
Now that Mordremoth is using the jungle tendrils to destroy the waypoints, you should make an world event where the Waypoints are disabled for a certain ammount of time, making the people of Tyria resort to other means of transportation in the meanwhile, such as trained mounts. Of course the story seems to be going the other way… Since Taimi is finding a way to fix it. But it would be nice if something like this happened someday if you plan on adding mounts so it adds to the story. Hope you consider this! Tell me what you think.
There is a Champion Rabbit in the Uncategorized Fractal that you want to kill ASAP. (Trust me, you do NOT want it running around nibbling at your ankles.)
or….. if we don’t take care of it and nurture it….. it strangles us from behind!
If they make Tengu as unique/colorful as this picture, I will proudly make one! Please Anet! The OP is on to something!
Hell, I found myself going “YAY” when playing PS on my Sylvari (who did the order of whispers joining missions) and Asura (who had the golem invention storyline). Why? Because they encountered the one Asura announcer with the holograms, who I FIRST encountered (as a player) in Orr during the naval storyline.
Some characters appeared often, others I think got shoved in places to have a named person with backstory. Like the first person human characters talk to (with the Coyote pet), never ONCE appears in the world or early PS, but appears in an Orr set of missions. The lost sister? Never appears in home instance or anything (Much dislike at that, given how many other PS npcs hang out in your home instance, WHY NOT THE SISTER!), but she appears in an Orr PS mission.
Elli is the best character development I’ve spotted in GW2 writting so far, and that made me happy. How you meet her starting out in Rata Sum, then testing out things in Gendarran, only to wind up reeled in by the Order of Whispers and falling for an NPC you met previously as well. That’s the things they should do for main characters. Not the whole… “You met her once in a bikini at the beach, have her as a permanent party member.”
sorry but i thought this was an amazing fight, it actually required you to think and understand.
I also LOVED the fact they used something that has been in the game since day one and made it have a purpose, so many times i’ve been to that statue and wondered why it seemed part of something, yet i never got to see what it was a part of.
EDIT: why didnt you just quit the instance then, find a group, then do it? why instead did you go through it all then complain afterwards…. especially when you would have had NO problem finding a party…. the quest up to that point is about 2 minutes in length if you skip the chat :/
Killing or not, he just needs to man up a bit and maybe Anet should hire someone else who didn’t just wake up from a nap to do his voice.
He’s seriously THE MOST anti-charismatic hero I’ve ever had to listen to. Like.. really. When he gives a speech to “motivate” troops, I just want to throw down my weapon and go join the enemy’s forces.
I hate when people blame the actor completely. The guy who voiced Trahearne has done so many things and is insanely varied. The director specifically had him do that voice.
Actors do not have free reign in the booth folks.
Reading Ask-Marshall-Trahearne Tumblr page and all the memes associated with him, really made me love Trahearne all that much more.
For any of you who didn’t know, Trahearne is a grumpy alcoholic who makes wonderful, drunken love with Riannoc.
How could you not like this guy!?

The early Living Story characters were alright too. We had Ellen Kiel, Evon Gnashblade, Lord Faren, Kasmeer, etc., but then we started getting the DE 2.0 cast, and it’s all been downhill since then.
It’s as if they didn’t learn from the mistake of Trahearne.
You listed Kasmeer in there but she is part of the biconics cast you mentioned. Also, Lord Faren is from the personal story (Human, Noble). I would say the story “went downhill” when they had to introduce Scarlet and fumbled it. Then they did it again with Belinda’s introduction (“Hi, you can call me Red Shirt”) right after they picked up the ball from Scarlet and managed to make it work.
Trahearne isn’t a mistake, and how he came into the plot isn’t a mistake, but a symptom.
The Personal Story plot moved too fast from chapter to chapter, and bounced through so much so fast there wasn’t much attention paid to building characters so much as putting them where they needed to be.
With the exception of early Personal Story chapters, which was better about it since it was introducing the world and fleshing it out. This was okay to start with, but they just kept it up and things came and went quickly without having time to mature or settle in.
You could have had Benn Tenstrikes, Sergeant Bigsby, the Gear Warband, or any other characters make interesting threads which could turn up. Heck, Demmi Beetlestone was a plot thread which had nowhere it went and it could have gone places. But due to the pacing, we didn’t get any chance to really deal with any of these things beyond “hi, help us out, okay bye”.
That, in my estimation, is where the biggest flaw is in both the Personal Story, and the Living Story – it’s rushing, way too fast, trying to develop something artificially (forcing us into a position) instead of naturally (making us care about being in the position). As much flak as people want to give Nightfall just for Kormir’s involvement – by the end, the companion heroes actually felt (for the most part Norgu and Goren) like we’d been on a journey and bonded . . . not just been pushed in there and “here you go”.

Yes, Kasmeer was fine at first. She wasn’t much of an important character. They could’ve kept her away, and only brought her into the story when needed, just like Faren, or Canach. The problem starts when she’s in every single story episode, along with the other DE 2.0. Even when they’re not there, they are still acknowledged as being somewhere else.
Agreed about the pacing of Personal Story. It was going fast, without any real character development, but imagine, if any of those characters showed up periodically throughout season 1. Imagine seeing the warband, from the personal story, fighting against Modremoth minions in Iron Marches, in this last episode. That would be a great nostalgic moment. It was great seeing Imperator and Rytlock again too. Imagine seeing Quinn again from the human story, involved in a major plotline. This is why people were glad when they saw Riot Alice in Dry Top, because they remembered her story plot from personal story. They never used her though, and she gets a brief dialogue section.
This is why DE 1.0 wasn’t really a problem, because they weren’t as involved in your personal story, except for dungeons. They could’ve kept introducing them periodically though, throughout the personal story, but i realize it was costly and there were conflicts with scheduling the voice actors.
Character development doesn’t need characters in every episode. Ellen Kiel and Evon Gnashblade are good examples of this. They had some great moments during Season 1.
(Spoiler Warning)
I hated the death of Belinda, it felt less like a heroic death of a character and more like a shock death or too get rid of Majory and Belinda. Her death is off camera, we don’t get to see what happened. It could of been done much better by having Belinda die by sacrificing herself to save Majory. It also ruined any chance to learn about Belinda’s past and her relationship with Majory and her family.
Stone Summit Dragon confirmed, there’s our seventh.
Yeah, I somehow think going “Pick who you save!” and hen turning around and going “HAHAHA, Nope. Both die anyway!” isn’t going to do anything but enrage the playerbase.
closest example I’d have is ME3 ending, where basically no matter which path you took, The immediate end cutscene was basically exactly the same, with the color being different.
Frankly, if they went a “EVERYBODY DIES!” end scene for an episode, I’d be very unhappy. I HATE those types of endings, hence why I disliked most Call of Duty games I’ve played, because you reach the end, you defeat the bad guy, and everybody but you and maybe one or two others is dead. Way to make me feel like I won.
