I still do not see how people still believe the mechanics were a bug. I also do not see how people still do not see this as a big deal. For people with spectral builds (like myself) if you have spectral armor on and pop death shroud and if you are fighting someone, IF THEY ARE SMART they would stop attacking when you see the buff on, but clearly people love to troll and complain about how op it is when they should learn how to play better. There has been plenty of times I have faced smart players and when they see me have spectral armor on, they immobilize me, knock me down, and do every which way they can stall me until the buff ran out. But once again ANet sees it as “Unbalanced” since too many people “including them” do not know how to play their own game.

Anyone who keeps saying this isn’t a big deal has clearly not noticed how unbelievably awesome it was to use a full ds bar, pop a spectral or last gasp and be able to instantly reenter ds for that little bit of sustain we need or even to keep offensive pressure up with lifeblasts, or an extra fear, or an extra tele, or an extra immobilize. ..

Really it was most fun in pvp I have ever had in GW2 except team queues with 4 friends…..Why did ANET deleted something that was fun for most players? I remember 8vs8 was full all the time and 5vs5 were quite empty because guess what? It was not fun and 7vs8 is way better than 4vs5.
Think about it ANET.
1) It was not a bug fix. Every transform skill currently in the game triggers the cooldown the moment you entet the transform. Lich Form has a CD of 180s, once it expires, the CD on the bar is at 160s. Same goes for Plague.
2) Why is DS the only transform skill to get all the restrictions of Transform skills (No access to utlility or heal skills, no weapon swaps) and yet gets further more on top (no healing), while not even getting the benefit of CD starting on enter? Tripple punishment for using class mechanics? YES PLEASE!
3) Gameplay wise it does make a huge impact. I Usually tended to let DS expire naturally, using lifeblast untill its empty, because i was able to use Axe #2 afterwards or any spectral skill and to be sure: I can use DS again right after, even if just for little, the 12% DS is enough for #5 or #3 or a well timed #1 if the enemy was out of our rather small damage range.
Furthermore it gives a huge window of opporturnity for a counter attack, the enemy now basicly always has a 10 second window to CC and burst us to death once we should ever leave DS. Before we had to make a choice, quit early, with CD, but save some Lifeforce, or let it run out, leaving us with no Lifeforce, but also no CD.
Thief for example is the same thing: they only get a revealed debuff if they attack from stealth. If they let it expire they can stealth again without punishment, they can freely choose this. This enables another way of playing and it does feel very rewarding.
Furthermore, facing our current sustain problems this was another nail to the grave. They push our entire sustain and defense mechanics into deathshroud, and now they keep on nerfing DS.
Until you can spectate a live match (with a delay, 5 mins was the delay in GW1) there will be no real esport for GW2. You will have a niche group doing niche pvp tournaments and that is where it ends.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I agree that a flashing yellow message ig would be best.
The only people on the forums are those who cannot play the game. On the weekends I have time to play. When these ToG messages are UP on the forums, I am in game. Also, I have the auto log in tab checked, meaning that I don’t see the “news” on the front page advertising these tourneys such as ToG.
For months, PvPers got to see in big yellow text on their screens “SCARLET’S MINIONS ARE ATTACKING X”. Why isn’t that an option? Why isn’t “The Tournament of Glory has begun, watch at: http:/twitch.tv/guildwars2” Why doesn’t it say “Team X has defeated Team Y and moved on” (similar to GW1).
I have heard this isn’t the most elegant solution but at least its advertising! AND IN GAME! I thought it was sad, when my dota 2 playing friend mentioned he had NO IDEA there was any “esports” tourney going on for GW2, because he hadn’t seen ANYTHING about it. I personally had no idea what he was talking about either. I mean, I PLAY THE GAME and had no idea there was ToG going on or anything or even this WTS.
Wish there was more advertisements about it. That being said, I am NA and would love to watch these tourneys live. Hope they haven’t happened yet.
Edit: Oh, looks like I missed em, wish there was some advertisements about them or even where to watch the old ones -_-.
Am I good?… I’m good.
You have the technology available to allow all players to spectate team queue games in action.
This technology has been given to your “authorised shoutcasters” who do NOTHING to use this great perk either to promote the game or even to watch matches.
I think it is time to realise the authorised shoutcaster program is a complete failure in terms of delivering what you wanted. I am sure the aim was to give people the ability to spectate and stream games and shoutcast them to help promote the game. This doesn’t happen ever, and either way it would be preferable to just let everyone spectate games. Nothing against the shoutcasters, they do a great job for the community and are all really good at what they do now. But there is no use of the feature they are given to spectate tournament games (which I presume hasn’t been removed?? If it has this whole post is mis-informed so sorry).
This would give:
1, More interest in PvP
2, A way for players to learn and become “hardcore” pvpers
3, Alot of fun for all concerned
4, A reason for people to log in
5, A reason for people not to log out whilst waiting for a 4th/5th person to queue with (i.e. something to do whilst waiting)
6, This was possible in GW1
So please enable this for everyone unless they are network/server considerations which stop this happening (which I can’t see would be an issue).
Anet have some of the best coders of any game. I wish the great features they designed were actually applied better by the designers and provided to the playerbase. For example, the standard character models is amazing.

Boon flipping is quite literally the only thing that keeps condi necro in the meta right now, imo. If not for corrupt boon, there really isn’t a reason to run condi Necro.
This is a cool idea. I will pitch it to the team. What other things would you see going on this track? They all have a theme leading up to the end goal.
Maybe a bag in the middle of the tree that carries a new gamemode :P.
Simple:
Add an in-game message for when a pvp tournament has begun or is being streamed. Having the banner on the forum page with links is great, but an in-game message would help to promote pvp and draw in the masses of non-pvp players.
Base stats should have the same amount. If it’s ok for warrior to have more base hp/toughness, an elementalist maybe should have more base healing/power or condi/boon duration for example. Just make all the classes have the same global amount of base stats and we can talk about amu balance.
^^That…. too freaking true

Nerfentalist of Augury Rock
No, the route of the problem has to do with two classes having almost 80% additional base health over thief ele and guard. The idea that aegis once per 50 seconds makes up for the loss is insane and will remain a primary reason the Guardian doesn’t get played as much. Group effects are also difficult to value in a gamestyle where your team of five is attempting to control 3 simultanious points with extra objectives. To make up for that all other classes are going to need massive def./offense skills as compared to warrior or necro. This is in no way the case.
Some classes utilize all traits while others primarily deal physical or condi. So for celestial build all skills hit with slight boost, but for focused classes 80/90% of skills hit for massive bonuses. In terms of healing power the gains are significantly different for each healing skill making it difficult to value and not overly significant to offset other factors. Additionally healing in no way compensates for bonus health pool at the base of the issue. Extra toughness is a ridiculous argument for removing celestial as it has diminishing returns and you can go up against a class with 80% bonus health and max base toughness among classes. It’s not as valuable to tack toughness on to the heavies because they already have it….
The classes that benefit from the celestial are the ones that hurt from not being able to focus on a damage type. Sorry a warrior with 80% bonus starting life heavy armor and great healing signet can’t just blast auto attack to win. No one would play the game if they had to work crazy hard paying attention to a million details to get destroyed by someone pressing 1 button. Every class should have a high skill option with high reward. Celestial is in no way the problem; massive underlying imbalances make it impossible to balance.
yes, how will he do that? just like us i guess. he learns. from the peak on. just like we did back then.
Nope. If the combat system gives to the playerbase the perception of a massive mess, then they will leave, like they have been leaving, and they won’t recommend to their friends the game, and they’ll move on, like they have been, to other games where the pvp scene is far healthier.
oh and yes, please dumb this game down even further. plx remove all teh butoons, dey make me dizzy.
Quite the contrary, this game is so needlessly complicated, that it dumbs down itself. By simplifying and clearing the excess of details, there’ll be a lot more room for learning, for skillful playing and for spectators to even understand what is happening around.
This concept might be hard to grasp, but let’s say that more complexity does not always leads to more depth. UI infodumping, condition spamming, pet zoo, passive proc spamming, aoe spamming and the like make the whole combat more “complicated” due to how messy it becomes, but that does not translates exactly to adding more depth to it – it actually dumbs down the enjoyment and the depth behind it, tremendously.
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Nice post frand! The issue is very simple! The community is TINY! There’s just not enough people near your rating to match you up with! Or maybe they’re just playing hotjoins! Enticing PvE players over with rewards isn’t going to help either! PvE players don’t enjoy playing PvP! If they did, then they wouldn’t need an incentive to play! If you enjoy doing something then doing it is its own reward! Don’t get Vee Wee wrong, the extra rewards from PvP have been long overdue for PvP players! But right now it’s just a bunch of PvE players grinding out achievements or the glorious armor reward track! Vee Wee was asked recently why Vee Wee continues to play Engineer when Vee Wee already has the Champion Genius title! That’s the kind of people that the reward tracks brought into PvP!
The problems have already been discussed thousands of time on these forums! Vee Wee made a thread that a dev replied to but no changes! Skyhammer! Leavers! Balance patches are few and far between! No pause feature! Wonky camera! Stagnant game mode! Lack of communication between teammates! So many things! But this thread will just be ignored like all the others and you’ll just have to hope and pray for good things to come in the next patch in spring 2015!
Bye frands! No wahoo this time! Typing this out made Vee Wee sad! ):

The biggest problem with Lich Form, is that it always was the most useful when you spammed 1. They need to improve the other skills, and maybe even completely replace some of the other skills. Frankly, if it were up to me, I would give Lich Form a way to strip invulnerability, because it is one of the most game breaking mechanics in the game.
So I’ve been trying to get better at pvp, and I’ve recently moved from rabbit to wolf in two~three months. My main is guardian as in WvW and PvE, so I’ve learned/watched/played a fair number of matches using meditation build, support/bunker build, and hybrid build. The matches that I usually do are mainly solo Q and hot joins, although I do sometimes join team Q with full guild members.
That said, I really do think there is an immense gap between existing players in PvP playbase and newcomers such as myself. In rabbit and dear rank, I was matched up with people of my rank, and although game lacked any strategies and capturing/fighting in nodes, I still had fun. The problem started when I reached dolyak rank and I was facing shark/phoenix/dragons as my opponents. Now I know that after April patch finisher ranks have lost their prestige to certain extent, but it was still overwhelming for me to handle.
From casually winning/losing game while learning how to utilize PvP tactics such as LoS on rocks/walls, positioning, personal skill combos/etc, I am now matched up with people who are at least decent to excellent in their professions. After losing 10+ matches straight, I’ve lost intrested in PvP for a while and retreated to WvW and Pve. After a month or two, I’ve tried PvP again because of new trek rewards and PvP finishers, and I was able to endure all of Skyhammer, 4v5, 3v5, afkers, people with amazing skills and people with no skills to achieve wolf rank.
The problem I see is that matchmaking system is terrible and it is the main reason why people don’t want to PvP anymore. As an experienced PvE player who can earn 30~40g+ a day just by selling paths and running dungeons/fractals, I personally think lack of reward isn’t the problem. The community toxicity is much lower than what I’ve expected from such competitive players and gameplay itself is very fast paced and exciting. However the problem comes from high learning curves, very short/unnoticeable animations depending on skills/race and the horrible, horrible match making. There is no way that I’d ever want to play against a team of dragons and phoenixes when I am only starting to learn how to read animations and apply my own skill combos, or deal with 4v5/3v5 while receiving meager 300 rank points.
Anet should implement much better making software/program and try to attract more people for PvP since there is almost no unity in this type of gameplay. At least in WvW people are grouped into servers, whereas in PvP even friends and guildmates are prone to fighting each other. A new gameplay mode such as capture the flag/deathmatch/etc can be a short term fix, but anet should do much more than hosting some tournaments because frankly it has lesser viewers than DnT PvE tournament. There should be certain benefits for PvP players such as increase trek progression by 5% in guild upgrade system and/or comprehensive guide made by Anet devs themselves to help newcomers.
As of now I am taking break from PvP once again due to RL reasons and WvW tournament, but I really wish PvP gets some major patch as much as I wish for new dungeons/fractals in PvE. I really hope Anet drops Living World as their main focus and start working on other gameplays that really need fixing and revamping, but I don’t think I will see that until release of gw3. Just my two cents :P
On topic now; what is actually the biggest culprit for Celestial?
I see many here pointing out mightstacks, but is this really true in reality? Or is it a mix between the stacking of might and having enough self-sustain to run it?For example, Necromancer’s have some ways of getting might, and can get up to ~15 stacks rather quickly, but you would not see them running (and dominating) with Celestial – why is this? Is it because their builds do not lend for it? Or is it because unlike the other classes which profit from Celestial have great ways and mean of self-sustain?
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Heavy might stacking classes like Warriors and Elementalists have innate fire fields and blast finishers! A Necromancer has to sacrifice a utility for many might stacks!
Wahoo! Bye frands!

The game has been out for over 2 years and Im just wondering why we only have 1 game mode in SPvP? Doesnt it get stale? Wasnt GW1 filled with more modes? I am but rookie that dont play very often but surely this must have an impact on the game itself.
Perhaps there are official responses on these matters after such long time, of why they arnt focusing on such?
Ty
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
Why is this guy crying about necros? Dude you play a warrior and i assume you run the standard endure pain, berserkers stance and balanced stance.
Erm… … why dont you pop berserkers stance for 10 seconds to proc the passives? Then maybe use your 10 second stability so for a whole 20 seconds the necro cannot push you off him!!! kitten thats some OP build there and just to LOL in his face maybe use endure pain to break that one fear he might get through when all of that is over. Anyone mention to you also that your PASSIVE yes PASSIVE heals heal more than when a necros poison is on you? I mean the ele is a healing king but they still have to spam skills for their heals.
If you got a problem with passives drop the warrior dude.
The truth is Anet should completely rework necro animations.
Staff animations (#4 and #5 over all)
DS #3 (fear)
Passive fears are a bad design but at least, with better animations, you could counter 2 of 4 fears instead of nothing or random dodge.
Anet did a good job with pin down and air blast, why don’t add ar similar visual effect to necro fear too?
