How do you pronounce your name?
Yeah, solo arena should be just removed, leaving only ,,team" arena which can be also played solo. That would shorten wait times for matches, and if there are any good players left in solo que, they would at last move to team que.
Make it a water field and I’ll approve the change.
hey guys. my name is arrdee.2573 and i am a new player. well i just got the game yesterday and boy oh boy pvp is just confusing! i keep joining solo and team arenas trying for glorious armor and i feel like all i do is cause my team to lose. i noticed you guys put some helpful restrictions in pve and maybe it might be a good idea to place these helpful restrictions in pvp too.
for example i have no idea how to play this game. i have no idea what it means when people say rotations. i can’t even spell rotations. i think it might be a good idea to restrict me to only hotjoins until i reach a certain rank in pvp so i can learn this game.i also think that i should get matched up with people that have a similar rating as me. why am i getting matched up with the most skilled players in this game as a new player? it’s crazy.
anyway that’s just the perspective of me, arrdee.2573, a new player. thanks for reading

They should simply redo it like they did with Thieve’s “Choking Gas”.
Giving the skill an impact that lands, and that impact determines if the fire field will go off or not, and whether Cleansing Ire should trigger.
Does anyone know if you can blind the skill, or destroy the projectile?
Or does Cleansing Ire trigger the moment you fire the arrow?I still haven’t tested that yet but are you saying that Choking Gas only trigers if you hit someone? I thought the only change was the reveal on hit.
Nope. Sry for the bad explanation and confusion.
It does not only trigger if you hit. But they added a “hit” which reveals thieves.
What I meant was simply that Combustive Shot should have such a “trigger-hit”, which should be blockable, blindable, and dodgeable. Without the hit, the fire field should not trigger.

If you’re looking for meta staff builds there’s these:
Zerker Staff: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAWhMM6c2zwyBr0AEAS4ARWIuUlOleD-TJRBwARuAA02fgcZAAPAAA
Bunker/Support Staff: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAWhMMqc2zwwBr0AhAG5NwCoBOKAUuGUCWBA-TJxHAB1eBAQqMwP7PAwDAAA
I would recommend you make your own adjustments to them to fit your own playstyle, but they’re good starting points. Zerker staff is imo the harder to play of the 2 if you’re playing solo because it takes good positioning and some team support, especially if enemy team has mobile, burst dps specs to kill you before you can do any good. Played well and in certain situations, can totally turn the tide of a team fight.
My personal preferred staff builds:
Modified Zerker: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQFAWhMM6c2zw6Bf0AEAC5qFjGKQ53fLD-TJBFwAOeAAl2foaZAAXAAA
Has a lot more survivability than the above one (cost: less damage, but still hits quite hard), can actually contest/sit points if needed (not ideal but you’ll last more than 5 seconds) and not die instantly. I take Ice Bow to use the 4 when you get a down – if they try to res, usually you can take out the the resser too, it’s pretty nice. With FGS nerf it probably won’t be worth taking anymore, but until tomorrow it’s good for Khylo/Forest to hit treb/beast, or on Foefire if you plan to go for the lord.

It’s a lot of fun to play since people usually expect zerker when they see a staff but you can burst pretty well, and it’s a total surprise. Can 1v1, contest/sit points, etc. I’d reccomend going to the original thread, I believe there’s a video that explain combos.
Good luck(: I don’t play staff as often as I used to in PVP but it’s a lot of fun, and I hope you find what works for you.

Your nuts probably havn’t dropped yet. One day you will realize you were not bred to live the american dream, you were bred to be a consumer and that’s exactly what you have become
I don’t know if you realize this…
ad hominem: Meaning against the man. An arguer who uses ad hominems attacks the person instead of the argument. Whenever an arguer cannot defend his position with evidence, facts or reason, he or she may resort to attacking an opponent either through: labeling, straw man arguments, name calling, offensive remarks and anger.
It’s one of many logical fallacies you should probably avoid.
Since there aren’t many videos of Lockdown Mesmer out, I tried to upload a few to hopefully help out people who may be having a hard time learning the playstyle. I use a variety of builds in these different clips, some using CS (6/6/0/2/0) and some using CI (4/4/6/0/0)

What reasonable person would expect a game developer to have the same skill set as a professional spokesperson? Give the guy a break.
As someone who is always pushing for more information/communication, all I can say is that if a dev is willing to take time out of their day to sit in front of a camera and communicate with us, then the proper response is appreciation for their time, not criticism of their screen presence.
On the plus side, though, I’ll bet Karl has a lot more supporters and fans now than he did before this thread, lol.

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t this “buff” even dumber than the Mesmer changes.
Any Necro who has LF will already be in DS if low on health. Almost any Necro with DS on cooldown is one who has run out of LF.
Thus, this “buff” is something that makes absolutely no sense.
Go ahead and spectate 2 hours of any necro and count how many times a necro is low on health…AND…has LF…AND…DS is on cooldown.
Maybe they also forgot that they removed the ability of DS to save you from a killing blow as the damage will xfer over to your health pool.
Thus, even in the 1% of times where this thing would even proc, you almost assuredly won’t have much LF and die anyway. Think about it…if DS is on cooldown, then that means you just used virtually all of it.
Who would get OUT of DS with low health AND LF still remaining, such that you would put DS on cooldown and be susceptible to taking a killing blow? Is this the “problem” they were trying to solve…lol
How on earth does something like this even get out of the “idea” phase if vetted by any person who plays a Necro?
Major props though on the 1 second increase to Signet of Vampirism. It’s exactly what was needed and will definitely make a difference…smh
Want a third clue that whoever came up with these changes has no clue?
They changed the damage potential in the game, but didn’t make any changes to the size of the Life Force pool.
Think about it…LF does not scale infinitely like Block, Immunities, Evades, Stealth, Dodges/Vigor, Aegis, etc. Thus, whenever you impact the total damage of professions via a major patch, the size of the Life Force pool should increase/decrease proportionately.
The fact that nothing was done confirms my suspicions all along that it’s just a pure “guesstimation” game they are playing, which is why Necros have such a ridiculous delta in survivability and viability in different aspects of the game.

I had the highest hopes for this game going in to release because of their history with GW1. I figured GW1 was (mostly) a PvP player base towards the end, and since it’s got a great pricing method, I thought I would have a new MMO home. Boy was I wrong…
I pleaded on the forums here reguarly for the first months of the game, when dev communication was actually pretty good. I wasn’t alone obviously, the huge majority of the playerbase was unhappy and taht was obvious by the decline in players week by week.
Finally after a few months one of the devs told us in the “Big PvP patch around April” (LAST year) they were FINALLY going to look in to improving PvP with new game modes, etc!
So I took an extended break to see how things happened… and sadly things BARELY changed in this whole time.
And it seems the tone has not changed. People are still begging for the same things they were a year and a half ago, and still getting the same excuses… (and yes I call them excuses, because if they were only “reasons” or “explanations” that would imply they would have gathered evidence and found a solution to work towards by now).
Now the topics going on to “how do we add objectives to the modes to make them work” and “how do we add progression through the game modes”….
Brings me to the topic here… Why doesn’t GW2 base their PvP off their successful systems they had in GW1??
There was many different modes, some of which had special objectives (and some of which that did not – ALL of them were fun regardless of this!).
There was a clear progression! Not just with moving from random arenas>competitive>HoH>GvG, but also a clear progression of unlocks/gear/skills/etc, but done in a way that NEVER felt like you were at a disadvatange.
Also the reasons given to us of imbalance and requiring healers… but this really wasn’t that big of an issue in GW1 either. In random arenas, people tend to spec completely different cahracters that are more viable for multiple roles and soloing. And that did not stop players from promoting out of random in to competitive (with theier random team) and getting more than a dozen consecutive wins! If you are in any other premade team mode, you can obvious add a variety of healers, which in this game is highly beneficial as well.
And it seems that ANet is blinded by the fact that they want to succeed as an eSport nowdays… it’s so easy to forget that GW1 found some success at this as well, when the game was not even designed for it!
You do realize, the top eSport games were NOT initially designed as an eSport… but evolved in to one over time! You need to build from the bottom up, a strong foundation and then work on making it an eSport, not the other way around. DoTA, LoL, SC – they were not worrying about what viewers would think when watching a game! So why are you worried about that when the player portion of the game is being neglected for the viewers? Viewers aren’t going to care much unless the players & gameplay could match the viewership features!
To the developers: GW1 succeeded at EVERYTHING you wanted out of GW2… WHY don’t you take advantage of this solution you have had in front of you all along??? This game is supposed to be “GUILD WARS” 2! A game with possibly the best PvP system in an MMO… and GW2… Being honest here I would say it’s one of the bottom 50% worst PvP implementations in an MMO (at least the structured portion, WvW isnt as bad).
The more we stray from the essence of the first game, the more it feels like a betrayal to the customers that have been fans of the series.
..
I beg you (still, after 2 years)… Please learn from these mistakes and go back to your games own path of success.
I have no problem if you add new features on top of it, but AT LEAST give us the modes/features we had in GW1. Until then GW2 is going to feel like upgraded graphics/combat mechanics but downgraded everything else…
Please… Stop wasting all this potential.
(Edit: Case and point:
I agree. We’ve done some of the core stuff we wanted to nail w/ the conquest format, so now we’ll start getting into different secondaries that provide new types of gameplay.
^ Over a year ago… Still hasn’t happened, and this “new PvP format” just simply is not working…
Which brings me back to topic… Why don’t we switch back to what we KNOW works, what we KNOW is successful from GW1… and just add all these new ideas and features on top of that hugely successful framework??? That will bring players, which can eventually lead to eSports, but we need the actual players first! Why make a game for spectators if noone is watching…?)

Biggest tournament you don’t even make any money and its not even lan. I think the gw1 factions tournament was bigger lol.
Test Servers: These are hard to do at the moment, and not something we will support for now. It takes a lot of manpower to manage another live environment and iteration on features in that environment takes a lot of extra lead time.
Unfortunately, test servers are probably the single most important change you need to implement.
So many of your implemented changes seem to require additional tweaks after they’ve been live for a month; best case scenario, those tweaks will come in 6 months, and some issues have remained for over a year without being addressed.
I’m not going to pretend that a test server is free, but I imagine the benefits will eventually pay for themselves. The only changes that need extensive testing are PvP oriented changes, so the server could simply be an instance of the mists. Instead of having to spend development resources to tweak things you’ve literally just introduced/tweaked because they aren’t performing as you expected (look at the thief trait changes as just 1 example), you could work all that out on the test realm and deploy the properly balanced version.
It’s also worth noting that 6 months between balance patches will be easier for the community to swallow if they’re aware of constant balancing going on for those 6 months.
If you have to, charge people a fee (gems, gold, real money, whatever) to access to the test server. It’s not the best solution, but it’s better than no test server at all.
pre-ordered HOT at this point,
save yourself the money and don’t bother.

Necro will get nerfed. They will nerf lich and fear. I suspect by making terror a grandmaster.
In addition, they will balance this with some meaningless buffs to axe/dagger. These weapons will never be viable because necro lacks the sustain necessary to stay in melee range.
Well lich and terror are kinda cheesy so i could understand the nerf. But if necromancer dont get buffed in other areas to compensate (mainly our sustain) we will probably see even less necromancer in the tournements.
But hey lets wait and see…
Terror isn’t cheesey at all. Condi necro is one of the few builds which takes a lot of skill and experience to use well in PvP. Terror is decent but nothing more. Basing your damage around conditions is flawed vs teams with a guardian and staff ele (as most have now). This essentially means the other teams have so many cleanses that the necromancer might as well not be there.
Power necro, unlike condi necro, takes very little skill to use effectively. It is still flawed because it dies sooo easily. But the build takes no skill. Spam aoe, DS auto and lich. Really brainless. I have little experience on power necro but I can play it probably as well as anybody, even people who have played a ton of power necro. And this is because the build is so easy. I hope this build does not get buffed out right.
I think if they add life force generation to all weapon sets (as you say – more sustain) then they will need to nerf necro in some way. Because currently running 0 6 4 0 4 with reapers prot, master of terror, terror, nightmare runes is very strong in an ideal scenario. The reason, imo, it is not overpowered is because soul marks your life force generation is terrible and not viable. Unless you can gtd your team will win the first fights so you can stack some life force there (or on khylo I guess where you can exploit to get LF).
I think soul marks is kind of required to generate the life force you need to even have a tiny bit of sustain in team queue. If you can get this same life force generation WITH the passive/longer fears then necro would be OP. But like you said, if we don’t get this increased sustain then the expected nerfs necro will receive will just make it go from the 7th to 8th best class in the game. IDK why they like nerfing a class which is not even in the meta but they do. Before dhuumfire nerf the class wasn’t even in the meta…..
I would consider making soul marks merged with one of the staff traits in the death magic line. And I would consider making the grandmaster “scepter condis last longer” trait to be “Scepter condis last longer AND scepter attacks grant life force”
Necromancer/Casual Warrior
[Team] Best WvW guild of all time. EASILY.
Have to say it’s a shame seeing development spent on this map. It should be left as is and dropped to hotjoin only. Development saved for stuff that really needs it, i.e. new maps or game modes.
I think you underestimate the buff to scepter. It’s going to apply torment on AAs. The AAs will generate clones that will stack even more torment. Right now, I need to disengage if I get 5 stacks and one or two other conditions put on me. Can you imagine what your condi bar will look like post patch if that mesmer change goes through?
It’s not just the scepter buff, it’s this buff plus illusionary elasticity to staff, makes condi builds crazy strong, and not in a good way as it will all be about being passive and letting the clones do the work.
Visible MMR with a slow, but permanent decay is how GW2 leaderboards should work.
Why Visible MMR?
1. It’s more transparent and shows skill better than a leaderboard number/percentile. Maybe there are just two players at the top who are way out in front of everyone else, or maybe everyone in the top 500 is very close in rating. Without visible MMR, you can’t tell.
2. It gives new players a concrete evaluation of performance and a way to improve. Rather than seeing themselves as a percentile, new players would be more likely to try and improve visible MMR incrementally by setting a new personal rating record(even if only by a few points).
3. If people can actually see what amount of rating they lose or gain while playing, instead of seeing their leaderboard number fly around like crazy after each win or lose, players will stay calmer. Losing 20 points off your rating doesn’t seem as bad as dropping from 55% to 49% on the leaderboards.
4. Visible MMR works for other games, like Chess and WoW. It’s a proven system that most people have no problem with.
It’s hotjoin. Who cares about that.
The new players playing the game.
^ The issue doesn’t impact me, but if we’re trying to grow the playerbase, this should be the top priority

Hi frand Vee Wee,
Skyhammer: I don’t think it necessarily needs to go either but the skyhammer room in particular should be made with a wider area and less insta kill potential. It’s too easy to camp with a decap build and pure cheese. I think the rest of the map is natural enough if someone didn’t hug a wall at the right time they pretty well deserve to die.
“Leavers”
Most 4v5 are not based on true leavers but the terrible queue system initiating 4v5s due to auto queue of alt tabbed players. If you truly want to promote the game, punishing casual pvpers (and already an auto ban system linked to an auto queue system is very sadistic way to program) even more is not the way to go about constructing a popular PVP game because those casuals might transition to e sports and otherwise pay the bills. Handing out auto bans after someone was sucked into a match while getting the pizza at the door is a self destructive way to build a game.
Next up: a true leaver mid match may have been a disconnect, or may have been a true leaver. In either case, I don’t think it disrupts the ethics of sport to bring in a substitute. This is analogous to substituting for an injured player in NBA or NFL which teams are allowed to do. If a player just walked off the field in NFL he could be assumed to have a mental injury lol.
There should also be a vote forfeit option to promote more games in less time.
