A game that’s 100% WvW

Stonemist makes me want to go play Planetside 2. It really highlights this game’s server-side performance issues. Even though MY machine is getting good FPS, culling issues mean I can’t see more than a quarter of the enemies in the room and my skills may take several seconds to fire off (sometimes they simply don’t fire off at all).
Arenanet is aware of the general issue but Stonemist makes the classic Warhammer-style mistake of “cramming tons of people into one room”. It’s a place where there’s usually a 3-way battle so the entire server is there and all the action is in the middle.
I suggest Stonemist have 3, perhaps 4 lords:
North Lord
Southwest Lord
Southeast Lord
(Middle Lord?)
There is a 1000 point pool. Whoever owns 2 positions is gaining points. When they hit 1000 points, they claim the castle. If you camp 1 position you’ll never win.
This might not solve the underlying issues but at least it will keep it from being so bad.

Nexon wants you to buy dye kits from the Store, guys.
I’ve noticed they drop more frequently in lower level zones, however looking at gw2spidy demand is FAR exceeding supply with a dramatic dropoff in supply around Nov 5th through Nov 12th. However the volume of trades has steadily increased. It looks like the dyes are being listed and bought up immediately.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/20323
Now one thing to keep in mind is that they are used as a component in the legendary staff, The Bifrost (need 250 for Gift of Color).
With roughly 5000 supply at 15s each, that’s 750g. Could someone be manipulating the Unid Dye market? (Note: 5000 Unid Dyes would be enough to make only 20 Bifrost legendaries – TWENTY worldwide.
I know I’ve been hanging on to my dyes rather than listing them. I imagine many others are also.
I am currently scouting out Yak’s Bend. This decision will not be made quickly as we don’t want to make multiple moves. It’s hard enough coordinating one move with more than 20 people at once.
I apologize about not responding to PM’s. I’ve been reading them, but I’ve been getting 10 new PM’s a day and don’t have time to reply to all of the PM’s sorry!
Blackgate would be the perfect server for you guys! Blackgate is a determined WvW server currently ranked #4, which is T2.
This means you come here and you can be someone; you can help our (and possibly your server) achieve something together. We have no inherent chain of command and our commanders and guilds all work together to get things done; even the little guilds.
Our WvW crew never backs down; and we refuse to go down without a fight. A win or loss without a a few bruises to show for it doesn’t make you stronger and each week we are getting stronger by fighting tooth and nail to live up to the name Beastgate!
Our NA timeslot while it is the weakest; is improving very much and we currently only have queues for EB and Home BL on Friday/Saturday. If you want to be apart of a server that is rebuilding and trying to re-establish themselves as a dominant T1 force with guilds that respect eachother and work together, the Blackgate is open to you!
If you’re as laid back as you say you are, why not pick Blackgate?
Why did you offer the ability to change gender but not give the option to change your characters name along with it. I mean seriously, who wants a male player with a girl name or vise versa.
I appreciate all the responses and personal PM’s. I’m sorry I opened the thread without making sure I covered everything. EU server isn’t really an option for us, sorry to some of you! I like what I’ve seen on the forums about Yak’s Bend so I’m going to personally check it out this week and get a feel for it.
Again, thanks for the responses. Willing to listen to more in case we don’t pick Yak’s in the end, so feel free to advertise your server if you haven’t already!
My suggestion is to add an option when creating a squad which allows players to choose their commander tag color.
When a player then looks at my icon it would then say
“(Role) + Commander Shira Rae” along with its color.
The reason for this is to distinguish the different commanders on a map AND to associate role with color.
Blue = Defense
Red = Assault
Green = Support (Militias)
Gold = Supply (Economy)
Then taking this into account, the four possibilities when my name is looked at in the WvW map would be:
Defense Commander Shira Rae
Assault Commander Shira Rae
Support Commander Shira Rae
Supply Commander Shira Rae
This would help practically every WvW become a much better experience and will end the frustration of both, players and commander-alike dealing with the mass confusion associated with organization.
Players can see the colors and know where to go, while commanders can take better focus and responsibility for their roles when multiple commanders are on the same map coordinating with each other.
So why did I choose Red, Blue, Green and Gold? Aside from those being standard military colors, its also something the world can associate with video games. Those are the standard colors of buttons on Video Game controllers that we all know and love.
Guild has about 40-50 players on at night that are willing to hop out to WvW. Haven’t fully agreed on transferring yet, but hypothetically this is what we’re looking for.
-Tier that is competitive and doesn’t have crazy queues(don’t think queues exist anymore!)
-Guilds on the server that are WvW focused like us
-A good fun community without super elitist guilds that think they own the server.
-People on the server stand their ground more than they run. Fighting spirit!
-EU server is not an option, sorry
We’re organized with good leadership and know how to WvW. We also have relaxed personalities and out there to have fun while playing competitively. We’re good at splitting up or sticking together depending on what the situation on the map calls for. We’re also not looking to transfer into an already super competitive matchup to turn it into a landslide if there were 40 more coordinated people in US Prime-time. So ideally I suppose it would be the bottom server in one of the middle tier matchups. I hope that made some sense.
Our main playtime is 8pm-12am EST. If you guys think your server would fit with us, let me know and we’ll scout it up!

Isle of Janthir has an amazing community, and everyone that plays WvW strives to play their best. We do have a very strong Oceanic coverage, able to rival Blackgate, There are many days where we actually are able to lead in potential points, even if it is for a small time slot.
T2 at the moment is amazing, the fights between all three servers is a blast! SoR is amazing to fight against, and so is Blackgate, SoR performs great with lesser numbers during the Oceanic period, and they are so strong during NA time. You would have great fun trying to vs them, I have no doubt.
Isle of Janthir also has;
- A Community Website
- A 1000ppl TeamSpeak 3 server, which is being used a lot more frequently now.
- Several commanders that you can have a real fun time with
- Strong PvE action aswell, I doubt you will struggle at all to find Fotm runs!
Please consider IoJ, We would become a lot stronger with your support
Another here from Sea of Sorrows recommending Isle of Janthir. They’re a good group of kids who need a bump in NA coverage to stay competitive during the NA primetime.
Of course Sea of Sorrows welcomes all cool people as well.
HI, I am a guild leader on IOJ for NA primetime. As soon as I logged on this morning I had mail and whispers talking about this thread. This is how hungry our community is for players like yourself. How much value we think you would add. We are a tier 2 server, and are fighting tooth and nail to maintain.
We have been trying really hard to reorganize the server and have made great strides. Our server has really stepped it up over the last 2 weeks. This week we kept the score within 10 until Wednesday night.
We are in great need of more NA WvW players. When it comes to fighting. We never run, we can take on numbers 2-3x ours and fight both servers at the same time. We are always outnumbered but we are never outskilled. We really would love to share our home with you!
If you want an opportunity to play with skilled and fun pvpers while making a difference in WvW, IOJ is definitely the place to do it. I have never seen a time where the pvp is not competitive. I think you will not regret your choice!
Hope you pay us a visit, on behalf of the server we all are looking forward to hearing from you!
From Sea of Sorrows i would reccomend Isle of Janthir, they could really use some NA leadership presence to inspire the massive Oceanic force there, plus they seem quite laid back.
T2, Blackgate (where i am right now) and IOJ both are shorter on NA than SOR and have no queues for NA timeslot. I know the people on Blackgate are amazing, coordinated, and extremely friendly and welcoming. IOJ probably needs more people to be competitive in the bracket though. IOJ would absolutely stomp the next server below them but could for sure use a population bump in the tier they are in. SOR seems pretty heavy on NA and light on all the other times. i’d recommend IOJ just because a 50 person guild could really make this a tight bracket.
T3, FA and Yaks both have room but i’d strongly recommend Yak’s Bend. Yak’s has fewer players than TC or FA but the organization on that server and the people there have such a fighting spirit they hold their own all week outmanned and the numbers don’t lie, they punch well above their weight class. Go here if you want a server with a T6 population that fights so hard they can sit in T3 all they like.
T4, CD has an amazing non-NA team and almost no NA coverage. Maguuma is tough as nails and amazing at strategy and could also do to have more NA people for sure. heartily recommend Maguuma
Only other tier i’m familiar with is T8 and there i would say go to Ferguson’s Crossing without a doubt. they have a good thing going on in that tier with healthy competition and moving to any server but Devona’s would help keep that competition alive. It’s possible that ET and HOD will end up there and get smashed by Ferguson’s so they too could probably also use a bit of help. but that is just speculation.

Isle of Janthir could use some more NA coverage as well. We are a strong oceanic server but lack an EU/NA primetime. There are a few NA guilds on the server but we are lacking compared to most of the other T2 teams. With some more numbers we could make a good solid push on the rankings as we are still keeping up despite our lack of those 2 timezones. Also there is almost never a queue for borderlands around that time frame other than reset night. And at most only one borderland has a queue outside of reset nights.
^ Agreed. You will really enjoy your time in IOJ. The only time I have ever seen a queue is on our own BL trying to defend it. We have some great guilds and a fighting spirit. We are usually outnumbered by the other two servers (being BG and SOR atm) but still put up a very strong fight.
The NA timezone is one of our weakest and one that could use your help immensely. We are not looking to dominate the other side but just to have good fun match ups.
Hope to see you on IOJ, if not enjoy your new server
Lol. Every server is going to extend an invitation. If your guild is truly looking for a home where you will be most comfortable, then split your transfers among a few servers to try them out and get a feel for them. While you will not have your full guild on any server for a week, you can get a preview of many servers and hopefully choose one that is best for your guild.
Good Hunting!!

This^^ they could use a lil more help

It kinda does’nt matter if they said ‘we never said’ the vast majority of players percieved that they did.
Customer perception is a key step to customer satisfaction and the moment you have to point out ‘we never said’ is the moment you’ve lost their trust and confidence.
Ahha – thank you to all who told me about the context thingy.
Didn’t realize I needed to learn to use Reddit to discuss or listen in to things about GW2. Seems I should have studied before hand! :P
I’d suggest learning reddit for more than just this AMA. It can be a valuable informational tool about pretty much anything, and posts you make have high potential for traffic. People have used it to get new indie games out into the market, or get their blogs known.
Meh its just more PR spin, the funny thing is once the math is explained the ascended items probably will have very little impact over exotics but anet won’t actually come out and explain the math.
People have tried to explain the math, and the difference comes to around 1% increase to your total stat pool. People either ignored it, or said it was plain wrong because it didnt match the increase of the individual item increase of a backpiece.
Yeah but its not anet explaining it. Coming from someone in authority does make a difference.
This is an interesting quote
“In retrospect Ascended should have been deployed pre launch and earn able throughout most activities in the game (which is how we are moving forward).”
Which seems to imply this was in the pot pre-launch. But it also raises further questions.
1. Arenanet was surely aware of the perception of Horizontal progression statements. Why was’nt this perception corrected at the time
2. If a mild vertical progression was in mind pre-launch why was’nt this feature announced before time and as part of the advertising.
3. If the game was launched ‘When it was ready’ why were features as critical not even mentioned.
Did anyone ask why they lied about rangers and what they’re going to do to fix it? don’t have the chance to scroll through all of it.
Is it only me, or is Chris an extremly slow chatter?! I mean, if this would be a conversation it would be over after 5 minutes, concerning the answers he has given so far in over 1 hour.
I am sure he is not alone in this. each question is chosen, the answer carefully crafted, and then delivered. This takes time.
Sure there are a room of PR people round him discussing the answer then getting the approval of Nexon : ) Oh no I went there.
“Hi Samurai,
I am going to take a quick break then answer one of your questions at a time then go pick another and come back to this list. Time permitting i will try to get as many done as possible.
Chris”
The list of questions is going to be tackled, just give him some time to go through it.
I want to know what ‘moving forward’ means to ANet. Chris has used it in every single reply he’s made, and it’s far too vague a term to have any weight.
Shocking amount of time being taken between answers only for most of them to be generic PR replies.
Agreed. As someone with lots of experience in making PR-appropriate statements, this is just silly.
Shocking amount of time being taken between answers only for most of them to be generic PR replies.
Serious question: why do mainstream companies like Anet use Reddit to answer questions like this, when Reddit is most famous for being a site that people use to post creepy pictures of underage girls? Also: it’s a horrible site for organizing any kind of information. It seems like the sketchy nature and poor structure of the site would be a terrible match.
because if they host it on their servers its going to lag.
“hehe”.

So a small minority of the reddit community now represents the whole, stereotyping is a beautiful thing.
