I do not want mounts as they are in most MMORPGs.

However, properly implemented, they would be a great addition:
- Mounts don’t magically appear from the shadows. They stay wherever you dismount, and stay there waiting for you.
- The mounts have realistic movement (acceleration, deceleration, turning, etc)
- The mounts are given a health bar, and if they go below 50% of their health, they run away and leave you behind, and if they somehow reach 0% health, they become downed/die.
- The mounts are given a stamina bar, so that their normal speed isn’t amazing, and if you push them to run faster, they will get tired.
- There are appropriate costs to maintaining a mount – food, water, etc.
- The mounts have appropriate mounting and dismounting animations, not a silly “puff”.

This would make mounts less about rushing through content, and more about a realistic, seamless and immersive experience.

Another problem would be how mounts will literally shrink the world… Previously massive, epic zones will become quick “Press your Autorun and Steer”

You can traverse several hundred miles in an instant using waypoints and warp gates, all that land in between may as well not even be there.

Not sure why all the GW’s 1 fanbois keep bringing up WoW and have such hate against mounts, but Ultima Online had a superior non-summoning mount system.

UO had a variety of mounts you can either buy from a stable or tame out in the wild that you could mount/dismount – but when dismounted the mount could be killed.

IMO if ArenaNet does decide to add mounts, I think this should be the way it is done. They could add horses (ground mounts only, no flying) that you could buy for maybe 50 copper or so that will last as long as you keep it alive.

Also I agree with the no mounts in cities, maybe have a stable outside before you enter where you can store your mount for a daily fee (charge a daily fee if you keep it there for over 24 hours).

As for PvP, I think it would be very useful also, maybe from stables inside the wvw map that you capture will allow you to buy horses with the same rules above, or just allow mounts that you buy in the pve map to enter with you in the wvw map.

Perhaps they could be mainly for vanity but have a faster movement speed while on the road.

We may even see mount combat, you never know. If they do add mounts I hope it’s done differently than other games have done it.

Well, siege weaponry comes to mind.

That’s the only actual place i wouldn’t mind to see expansive mobile combat

What about mounts to bypass content. I think that would become a concern. GW2 has many areas that have large concentrations of mobs, right now you’re somewhat forced to deal with them if you’re trying to get somewhere. Mounts would serve to trivialize that danger.

Most games handle this by forcing you off your mount if you get hit.

The bypassing content argument doesn’t fly with me. All the waypoints are a bit more ridiculous in my mind with regards to bypassing content. Even if you have to find them first, you only need to find them once and then you can bounce around anywhere instantly? Waypoints severely break up the flow of exploration.

Mounts would be far better than waypoints. You should have one recall stone that brings you to your major city, portals, and mounts. Nix the waypoints I say.

Agreed. It’s amusing that people try to argue against the inclusion of mounts on the grounds of “trivialising content” when that is precisely what the waypoint system does. So essentially, they are for the waypoint system because it’s already in the game, but against mounts because they are not.

Mounts contribute to lazy gameplay and a “run past all the mobs” mentality. No.

Incorrect. In a lot of MMO’s, players are dismounted when they try to “run past all the mobs”.

In fact, don’t the waypoint do the same thing you are describing?

Signed… however mounts are pointless to me without mounted combat. Ultima Online had mounted combat in 1998. I can’t believe modern MMOs have never been able to pull it off since. I think LoTRO just added mounted combat but it’s very zone restricted and weird.

If any team is talented enough to add this functionality it would be ArenaNet. Come on guys! I believe in you!

I’m all for mounts. Yes, we have a teleport system, which is akin to a public transport system in real life i.e. nice to have and will get you to specific points without you having to drive yourself, BUT it doesn’t take you to your actual destination AND can end up costing you a lot more money than if you owned transport yourself.

In other words:
Waypoint system:
Benefit: insta-travel to specific locations (not necessarily your destination).

Drawback: Can end up costing you a lot of money at high level if you portal around a lot.

Land based mounts:

Benefit: faster travel than running, with ability to take you to wherever you want to go faster than running. No cost per travel once purchased.

Drawback: possible high up front cost to purchase one.

And irrespective of what SOME think, mounts ARE a part of the guildwars universe. Some npc’s are notorious in the personal stories for having a “mount”.

Make the useless Asura elite skill Combat suit a Racing suit, remove the silly weak abilities and give it speedboosts, the ability to jump and spawn 2 or 3 of them for you and your friends.

Watch golem races

About flying mounts:

Why so hesitant? It is basically underwater combat in the air, and as far as I am concerned the underwater combat mechanics work just fine.

Make a level above the Tyria level and disable flying mounts on the Tyria level thus eliminating the problem of people flying up to Vistas or exploiting it in other ways.
Where can you enter this flying realm? From any of the already existing helicopter pods in the world, mostly Orr.

Fortunately at the moment, with this kind of set up, mounts aren’t needed as the waypoints are so tight.

My point is, I want my racing golem suit.

No matter how much you hate WoW, it will not change the fact that mounts have the potential to add so much to the exploring/leveling experience in this game if implemented properly, even at the cost of removing X% of waypoints. Skipping content by teleportation removes alot of the “absorbing the environment” feel when travelling across the world. There’s really nothing that could go wrong if ANet added mounts in a reasonable fashion. It’s ridiculous how many people post here acting like they would go back to Guild Wars 1 if mounts were added. -_-

Players have already found ways at traveling with a permanent speed boost of 30% and the world hasn’t ended. Substituting that method of traveling with a cosmetic one shouldn’t be a problem.

However, mount combat should be considered, as it helps the mount system stand apart from being just another dull mount system.

Alright…going to have to support mounts again…

first off, to say the game doesn’t need mount cause of waypoints. by that logic, the game doesn’t need voice acting, it has Texts, there is no need for voice acting…

I have not yet read a single good reason to be anti mount…

I see a fantasy world…full of swords and guns and magic…full of creatures and machines….mounts are as integral to such a world as much as the invention of the wheel is. why are you guys so against it? some pve and roleplayers probably would love to immerse themselves in a world that has some basic common sense to it. out of common sense, in a world such as gw2, one might expect at the Very Least, npcs riding on mounts. it isn’t unreasonable to request mounts in such a world.

a compromise, make it purely cosmetic, you have items where you can run around as a little blob or a pig….so what is the big deal if it is a character riding on a creature/machine instead. Everyone is happy, mounts only adds to the realism of the universe. It adds to the immersiveness.

I’m fine with mounts as long as
- they can’t fly
- you get dismounted as soon as you pull a mob
- you can’t perform any actions while mounted
- you can’t use them in towns, dungeons or pvp

I really am not 100% sure why some posts in this thread take such issue with the concept of having mounts in the game, as though doing so undermines what makes the game great.

I would be in support of the game having either mounts, or some other form of travel (waypoints/asura gates don’t count). Why?

Because I want the game to feel more like a massive world, and when I’m just teleporting from place to place it feels less so. While I do have to discover areas before waypointing to them, I would still prefer to take some sort of taxi or ride a mount from the Black Citadel to the Bloodtide Coast instead of teleporting there and breaking immersion.

What I love, in any thread, is when people give the reason “No, because WoW has it!” I guess, if you look at it that way, we shouldn’t also have guild banks, a working auction house, or persistent worlds? That’s a bad answer, and you should feel bad.

I’d kill a quaggan for a ground mount. Travel costs are insane, and since it’s either ‘shut up and run everywhere’ or ‘farm for gold, you stupid noob!’ whenever the subject is brought up, this would be a great solution.

I really just wanna clomp around on a dolyak mount We’ve already seen NPCs get around via airships and helicopters; I can’t see how the lore nerds can ignore that and then go BUT IT DUN FIT!

Firstly, Mounts (NOT flying) immerse you in the world, because they are riding beasts. It’s natural and realistic that riding beasts would be part of the lore (as they are in any fictional world). Honestly, having no mounts due to the fact that there were none in GW1 is not a reason to exclude them. GW2 is not the same game, in fact its quite different from the first game.
Second, you’re not going to bypass content cos you’ve already experienced the content by walking there first. They can make it that you can only get a mount by exploring content and unlocking it. You couldn’t summon your mount in an area you haven’t explored, this forces you to experience the content on foot.
Thirdly, mounts can be disabled in cities and when interacting with NPCs, so there’s no reason for players to be whinging about people on mounts covering up NPCs and such.
Fourth: mounts will NOT give an unfair advantage. Because everyone should have the right and the ability to get them. Mounts could be mostly cosmetic but be slightly faster than walking so pretty much like the speed boost except not so lame. But I’d be fine with it if they were the same speed as walking.
Fifth: It is quite exhilarating and satisfying riding beneath the stars on your loyal steed.
Sixth: They’ve said they want the player to feel like a hero. Steeds are a classic and traditional part of a hero’s story. I already have doubts about Anet’s ability to make the player feel like a hero; mounts can only improve this.

So I would vote in favour of mounts.

Correction, there were mounts, mounted mobs anyways

And honestly if the current state of PVE goes on its current path in gw2, id rather pay off a one time large sum for a perma speed boost whilst on a mount than pay the ridiculous way point costs.

I feel that, if done right, it can add further depth to the game. Heck, seeing Seraph patrolling on horses wouldn’t look too out of place.

If each race has an aesthetically pleasing design (I believe one of the GW novels starts with an Asura riding on the back of a golem, for example) then it wouldn’t be so bad.

Of course, seeing everyone on mounts that are GIGANTIC OHMAHGAH SUPER MEGA DRAGON DELUXE mounts would look out of place, but im sure something could be done.

I would appreciate something a little special to go exploring on. I wouldn’t want to skip content with a mount, in fact there are lots of times I’ve thought it would be nice to speed up exploring while on a mount. I’ve enjoyed the area, I quest in it and like to complete each area 100% which requires a lot of seeing the same area over and over again…

That’s not a complaint per-se, because regardless, I’m not enjoying the environments any less… although I can see why people are concerned about people just not caring and skipping content.

There are ways to implement content-jump countermeasures however. For example, non-mount areas.

Im for it, but only if its done correctly and with dignity… not done in a way which is intended to give players something to boast about… just to ease our characters tired feet adventuring.

A Few General Suggestions from a RPer's Perspective

in Suggestions

Posted by: DragoTheWise.7256

DragoTheWise.7256

Hello Folks!

I thought I would throw a few suggestions up that would help us out in the RP community. Right now, Tryia is an awesome world to RP in. It’s even better for a GW1 player as myself to see how the world has changed since I last step foot in this world. However, there are a few things that would help RP be a bit more fun and engaging.

Dueling:
A dueling feature would be really helpful in a hostile RP situation. As of now the only way to characters would be able to “duke it out” out of X reasons would be to do it by text. This is time consuming and doesn’t work well within the game itself. With dueling, it’ll allow the game to have a bit more depth for RPer’s that wish to have something more outside of emotional conflict with other characters.

Show/hide chest function:
A lot of Norn players from my guild would really like this function. During character creation, they would choose their favorite tattoo design and expect to be able to see them, but most armor sets(especially heavy) block the view of the tattoos. So, to have the ability to hide the chest piece, would allow them to show off their tattoos without having to store away armor pieces.

More Emotes:
The current handful of emotes suffices. It covers a lot of the basics every mmo has, however, as an RPer the more emotes at our disposal for our characters to animate themselves the better. This will also allow us to rely less on the /me command to do certain actions.

More Town Clothing:
This may already be in the works, but I would like to suggest it nevertheless. Town clothing allows characters to have access to a wardrobe that better defines the character and his/her personality. Also, not every warrior may want to RP in their armor all the time. A good example would be in the cities like Divinity’s Reach where this warrior may live. Instead of walking around in his/her armor while staying within the safe confines of the city, he/she may want to wear something more comfortable. RP events such as a banquet for X reason, may prompt for the players to want to wear something more social/formal rather than a large bulky armor set. I would prefer that there would be some basic sets (outside of the starter ones) of town clothing available from a vendor in-game, but wouldn’t mind if a few special sets went to the store.

Now, for one suggestion outside of RP

Trading:
I believe I’ve seen this come up a few times, but quite a few from my guild suggested for this to be added to the list. The Black Lion Trading Company does its job well, no doubt about that, but sometimes trading outside of it can have useful rewards. Yes, we could trade through the player mail; however, this isn’t very secure as one side could send the agreed trade items/coin while the other simply doesn’t comply back and steals the items/coin just sent to him or her. With that being said, a trading option between 2 players would be welcomed.

I would like to thank everyone in advance kittenads this and perhaps consider the suggested listed here. Also, any feedback on the items listed is most welcomed

Town Clothing Ideas

in Suggestions

Posted by: SpyderArachnid.5619

SpyderArachnid.5619

So this is just some ideas of mine for Town Clothing. Feel free to add your own if you so choose to. Hopefully this will give Anet some insight as to what styles we are all looking for.

Different Underwear Choices
Now I know what you’re thinking. But there is a logical reason for this, trust me. When our armor breaks, it vanishes. So we end up running around in our underwear for a limited time till we get it repaired. I see it a lot mostly in dungeons when people forget to repair after a wipe, and end up topless/bottomless. So, why not give us different underwear choices so we all aren’t wearing the same odd yellow underwear? Maybe some smiley face boxers, or Juicy shorts (kidding, but just some funny ideas). In all actuality, would like to see some different styles though (long johns, corset and stockings, boxers/briefs, gowns, etc) or even just different color choices.

NPC outfits
So many different NPC outfits, that aren’t available to us. For instance, the Mesmer trainer in Divinity’s Reach. This is one that I want for my Mesmer majorly. It would fit perfectly. When I first saw the render for it on the wiki before release, I instantly fell in love with it. Yet I can’t get it in game which saddened me. Another is Queen Jennah’s outfit, which is also worn by many Nobles in the game as well. Bandit outfits are awesome and would love some of them too, but these are just some ideas.

Holiday outfits
I remember GW1 costumes for the Holidays. Tons of awesome designs. This is probably an obvious thing they have planned, but just wanted to mention it anyways. Am definitely looking forward to Halloween costumes come October, and then some cute Christmas outfits come December. Would even be neat to see some Pilgrim/Indian style outfits for November, but that probably won’t happen. Of course I don’t want to be biased towards certain holidays, but am looking forward in general to holiday costumes.

Armored Glasses
This isn’t really a Town Clothes thing, but wanted to bring this up anyways. In GW1, we had glasses we could wear in combat (Asuran glasses made in Rata Sum). I am hoping that we can get the current glasses we have in the Gem Store, to be transmutable onto Armor instead of just Town Clothes. The reason behind this, is just common logic. If I needed glasses to see, why would I only wear them in town, and not in combat when I need them the most? Glasses would make sense to wear anytime as you need to be able to see what you are doing in combat. I know the whole “Don’t compare fantasy to reality” argument will pop up, but just thought it would be nice.

Well those are some ideas I can think of at the moment. Hopefully they don’t sound too far fetched and seem reasonable. Thanks for reading and happy gaming all.

Anyone having motion sickness from gaming please try one (or more) of the following, cause it works:

You know what else works? Stop playing the game and tell the developer exactly why.

Seriously, people have been complaining about the GW2’s camera lag / bouncing / wrong FoV / wrong height since before BWE1. How hard can it be to give us a “normal” camera (locked to the mouse, with no laggy smoothing) and a FoV slider? The game already supports variable FoV; you can see it in boss encounters and some Vistas.

The current system has no positives, and tons of negatives. It’s harder to code, it gives a huge advantage in PvP to people with multiple monitors, causes nausea and headaches, makes us look at the ground instead of seeing the game’s scenery (which frankly is an insult to the environment artists), etc., etc..

What is this, I don’t even …

You can zoom right out with the mouse wheel, and you can look at the sky.

The camera bounces a bit in a few cramped areas, that’s about the worst you can say about it.

What are people talking about here, it sounds like there are several topics being mixed up.

You should really read the thread and watch the youtube videos linked above, zoom and fov are NOT the same thing.
