Badge drops from bags is the worst way to acquire any form of currency. I said during beta it should be a bounty point system and I will stick by it even now.
They could even do it now by letting badges drop still but make them an item you turn in for bounty points. 1 badge equals x points. That way there are still badges that you can get for your legendary or you can trade them in to get bp that you then spend on gear and upgrades and siege.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!
I think the issue is compounded by the fact that the bags aren’t auto-loot. As a thief, I am often in the back of a large zerg trying to take out the casters. When I get a kill, I often am exposed and need to escape quickly, and I can’t even begin to imagine how many hundreds of loot bags have been left behind.
This has been discussed a lot though, and there are many threads that cover how to maximize badge drop. It’s all for naught though, if you’re leaving bags of loot littered all over the map.

If your immersion is broken by map chat, you need to hone your imagination a little bit. And honestly, if you think an “official” roleplay server is going to stop people from doing that in map chat, you are sadly mistaken. I’ll tell you right now. Many other games have an RP tag next to some server names and the only thing it has ever accomplished is painted a target for griefers.
Something needs to be done about the Post Processing effects in the game option. It controls several options all together, and frankly, I find it annoying to have so many important graphic options clustered into one option.
I like my light rays, I like the distance lod, distortion, and other effects that it causes. But the I HATE the bloom. The bloom in GW2 is simply to much to handle, and as well as the character outline. Which is the single most thing that keeps me from having post processing turned on. At very least, could we get a option to turn character outlines on and off without having to disable post processing?
I like the concept of town clothes, but I’m disappointed in the lack of choices available.
I know other people have spoken about this. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in without being absolutely and completely skimmed over as part of someone else’s post.
This system already exists to some degree in sPVP. I full support this thread and it should be carried over into PVE.
Multiple stones per armor part is a bad idea and just promotes farming them ingame. It only takes 1 stone to transmute any armor to any other similar armor piece. ArenaNet did away with multiple level stones to keep the game more streamlined and for ease of sales. So to keep this positive here is a suggestion as to how this transmutation could work using the same amount of transformation stones that are used now.
- A Skin Transformation item becomes available from an NPC in your Home Instance (makes people actually visit the home instance) who sells it to the players for 50 karma (a small karma sink).
- This item is then combined with the armor/weapon/item you wish to remove the skin from giving you an armor/weapon/item skin.
- That skin is then placed into your skin locker or shown to an NPC who records it and lets you obtain as many of them as you wish, just like the Hall of Monuments works.
- These skins can not be sold once placed in the skin locker/shown to the skin NPC, or obtained from the skin NPC.
- L80 armors would still need to use fine transmutation stones with the skin transformation items, thus promoting sales but not being mandatory to buy from the store, just like they are now.
- They are of course account bound allowing use on any of your characters.

Many of us had great fun dying the weapons in GW1. Also, some of the skins I would love to have available (holiday events?, special skins?).
This is not as simple as you think. Yes, primarily, a skin wardrobe is a quality of life thing. But it can influence PvE a great deal in a way, you might not realize.
The following is how I see it implemented (this is just my vision, which can obviously be improved by smarter people than me)
Why it’s needed: Keeping armor/weapon skins in the bank is messy and very inconvenient. It’s also impossible, due to space limitations, and a high price of buying new tabs. That’s why we don’t see anybody collecting armor skins extensively. Also, GW2 has an appearence-based progression. As in skins. As in the end-game boils down to getting more skins. /nuff said
UI: A new window, with 5 tabs: Light Armor, Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Weapons and Costumes. In each tab should be a list of all of the available skins in game, corresponding to that tab. They should be organizable alphabetically by name, by type (chest, hands, axes, bows, etc.) and by set name (applicable only to armor and costumes tabs), and should be greyed out at first.
As a skin is added (unlocked) to your collection, it should be available to use by any character on your account. There should still be limitation on light classes not being able to wear heavy skins for example, but any class should be able to add any skin to their collection, so that their alt can use it.
The process of unlocking skins can be done in different ways. My proposition – use transmutation stones, as they are already in the game, and are currently not used at all. Make it cost a different amount of transmutation stones, depending on the rarity of the skin. And make the original item be destroyed as you add the skin, to prevent people buying items on TP to just get the skin and re-sell the item. Using the skin that you’ve already unlocked however should be free and infinitely available for any character on your account, as it’s done with the HoM rewards.
Good things this will do for A-NET bank account: People will start buying transmutation stones, and using them up. Plus, all of the following directly profits Arena.
Good things this will do for players: Provides a new type of goal, to collect all (or as many as possible) skins. You’ll be amazed how many ppl are obsessive completionists, just eager for a new check-list to fill. It will also allow for people to change their appearance more easily and frequently, meaning a more visually pleasant and varied mass of players, instead of everybody wearing CoF armor.
Good things this will do for PvE: Throw more people in different dungeons. Right now, everybody is running 1-2 most profitable/quick dungeons. This will urge people to collect tokens from different places, to get different and eventually all dungeon armor sets. This is especially important now, since with the introduction of Fractals, the normal dungeons are turning into ghost-towns (not that Ascalon).
Also, it will create a new use for karma, as currently, people are just banking it in hopes to get legendary weapons one day. Now they can use it to buy skins for karma
You can even go a step further, and add zone-specific skins that can drop only from mobs in a certain zone (make it zone-specific instead of mob type-specific, so to prevent farming hot-spots). Those drops should be soulbound, so that people can’t buy them on auction house, and should have a small (but not frustratingly so) drop rate. This will throw a huge wave of players to all of the zones of the game, if each of the zones has a unique-looking set that drops only in that zone. No more complains of the world being deserted.
Show your support for this topic, so that we can get some attention to it from the devs. I honestly believe it can be a great benefit to the game.
TL;DR
Skin wardrobe is good. Convenient way of keeping and organizing unlocked skins. A new goal at endgame – collect all skins. More people will do unpopular dungeons, and other areas of the game, if they can unlock a new skin out of it. Unlocking the skin should destroy the item, but make the skin permanently available and free to any character on account.
NEWS
Well, I have some good news for you, guys. It looks like ANet are aware of this issue, and are thinking about doing something very similar to what I suggested with this thread. In the recent interview Colin Johanson even mentions a wardrobe and how collecting skins should be supported. Here’s the link to the video with the timestamp on that question:

So cheer up, hopefully it won’t be long till we can close this thread.

i also want to quick change looks whenever i want, like DCUO’s style tab but with color change.
I’m sure many would be willing to buy the feature for 800 gems(account bound hopefully)
Foreword: Please refrain from conspiracy mongering or angry/negative comments about the Gem Shop or any associated employees who work on it. Posts that derail the topic will be reported.
I have a few suggestions for the Gem Store, and I hope the Monetization Producer employee (who will remain unnamed) will take note!
- Offer ExtravagantTown Clothing! This has been a common suggestion, but I’d like to point out that less fancyTown Clothing skins should also be available through normal gameplay, and prestige skins should be available ONLY through gameplay.
- Offer less random grab-bags, more direct products. I’m no economist, and I don’t have the professional experience to back any claims that RNG are a bad idea. It’s worked well in other games before. However, I personally feel grab-bag offerings should be kept to a minimum, and only to Dyes and Event Chests.
- 1h, 6h, 24h or 1 week Waypoint Tickets. Eliminates waypoint costs completely for the duration of the account upgrade.
- More Freebies! – Keep at least one monthly freebie up on the Gem Store at all times. A single item, changed out once a month. It could be a hat, or a pair of gloves, or a common minipet.
- Unlimited/High-Capacity items – Yes, I realize that offering an unlimited item means somebody won’t buy it a second time… so offer it at a steeper price. Offer unlimited bank/merchant/trader summoners for a heavier price. Offer multiple use repair canisters (50 uses?). Multiple use boosters, or better quality boosters. Offer unlimited tonics. Deluxe versions of other items may just sell well.
- Armor & Weapon Skins – You can continue offering both of those through your chests, but consider adding different sets through direct sales similar to how you handle costumes. Leave the super sexy stuff in the chests if you like… but I personally would have purchased a box of Halloween armor transmuters for the holiday.
There are all sorts of other ideas out there. Let’s see what the rest of the community has to offer?
They just had the bad misfortune of building their colony on top of a very valuable resource (A big golden chest with precursors in it), much like the Na’vi in Avatar.
We’re lucky that there wasn’t some “heroic” human that switched sides to the underdog and showed the Karka how to be better at being Karka…
In the Claw of Jormag event, we have an NPC telling us “It’s coming back” “protect the golemns” “we’ve moved the cannons!” It sort of gives us an idea of things from a zoomed-out perspective. Just helps with storytelling.
I had no idea that catapults were even being built or that we had found a way to penetrate the shells. We have a lot of stuff to read, and most of it isn’t important. Some clear and concise pre-messages saying “If they come back, we are going to have siege ready for them and weapons for everyone. If you see an invasion, run to ____ to arm yourself. We will be more prepared for future assaults” would have given us the feeling like we were supposed to have an invasion to stick around for.
Can I have your stuff?
Yes, if you’re on TC tonight @6 PM EST.
Im a 43 year old IT professional who has played MMO’s since the late nineties. I’ve been enjoying GW2 since early start. I have 3 level 80,s spent in excess of $500 in the cash shop.
Tonight I will uninstall GW2 and instal Planetside2 in anticipation of its launch tomorrow.
This weekend event made me realize that ANET created an AAA title that they will turn into a small A rated game that once again, can barely be called an mmo, will have a small but dedicated following and will linger that way for years to come.
Please note, this is my only post; I am not a troll.
I love these people, who regardless of the fact that ANet has stated there is an issue, still continue to say “get a better PC”.
Culling? Get a better PC…
Lag? Get a better PC…
Even after ANet has admitted to issues such as the lag during the events and the culling of models when masses of player are grouped…and you still think the problem is on the players end? Get a clue already…
And another fanboy trying to defend the game.
There are lots and lots of reports of server lag. When your character can still move but the server does not update anything or does not register your button presses then it is not memory, graphic or any other PC lag but server lag.
And I seriously doubt that everyone who experiences this lag is on dial-up. I certainly am not.

So those of us who weren’t level 80 and were on our highest level character were only supposed to get items that were for level 80 characters?
You chose to play on your lower level characters. Why should those of us on our highest level characters have to wait longer to use items because you chose to not play on your level 80 character?
I was playing on my level 55 elementalist. Got one set of gloves I could equip right away as they were level 53. A couple pieces of exotic armor for level 62 and above. A level 80 exotic accessory. And a harpoon gun of some level which I didn’t commit to memory since I can’t use it.
I wish they had coded THIS event to only give you items you can use (as in: scholars not getting heavy armor). 2.5 hours for mostly items you can’t use at all even if you were level 80 would anger me.
Now as long as a low level person stayed with the zerg they could get to the end and possibly even get the chest. So was a very low level person supposed to get level 80 stuff as well? I’d have been disappointed if I didn’t get anything I could use within the next 10 levels but not angry if everything had been for level 80 characters.
Now, if I had been under level 40 (ie: less than half the way to level 80), I would have been angry at ANet for only giving me level 80 items. Because I would have just spent 2.5 hours on an event that gave me a reward that I won’t be able to use for several more levels.
because any exotics <80 are worthless? The same reason the dungeon exotics are all level 80. You will outlevel that gear so quickly that it’s worthless.
I’m absolutely furious that we got scaled loot. I was on my 52 elementalist and getting 62 exoitcs is a kick in the groin. I have 4 level 80’s that could have used some level 80 exotics or even a pre-cursor. It should have been flat out level 80 stuff for a level 80 event, PERIOD. It would give low levels something to look forward too and give people with an 80 already something to use.
act 1:Oh new event!!!, lets play with my lv 70 guardian and not my 80 mesmer, to get lv fast.
act 2: nice!! 50% of my guild is getting awesome items, OMG some1 get dusk!!
act 3: i open de chest….. scaled items……. salvage… 5 ectos…..5 ectos= 1 gold a good item = 60 gold
thanks Anet!!!
LOL, leveling during the event? You need to actually get XP from the kills for that to happen!
If you are having trouble finding groups for dungeons, you can use our LFG system.
The system could be made more useful with the following additions:
- make it cross map
- let players add a comment so others know what they are LFG for
- provide predefined names of activities for players to select what they are LFG for, e.g. name of the dungeon, dungeon mode (story / explorable), path in the explorable
- let players filter the LFG list by comment/activity
- and most importantly, promote the LFG system to the players – we are already receive a mail for each new dungeon – add tutorial hints to introduce players to the LFG system when reaching the corresponding levels – maybe even add similar tutorial hints when players encounter their first group event
A useful and popular LFG system would help me a lot to get to know more players, and then join a guild or two with those I enjoy playing with.
When looking at two different systems of the game, the trading post and the LFG system, I can easily identify one of them in need for some more features, in order to improve the social experience for players in the game.
Thanks for reading.

I’m not entirely sure how the LFG works.. I click myself to be looking for group… A little blue icon appears by my name. BUT, how do people know what dungeon I’m wanting to do if it’s not posted?
I love how Aion did their.. Was very simple… You had a comment box next to your name when you post… OMG SIMPLE! Where we can post dungeon name. The LFG would automatically post your name in LFG channel chat which I think should be the only thing that posts in it. No Global chat with LFG, it’s locked out to system posts through LFG only.. That alone will get people using it.
there are currently no plans to implement a dungeon finder.
If you are having trouble finding groups for dungeons, you can use our LFG system. Open up your contacts menu in-game, and there should be an option in there for grouping. That way it’s not just people standing out in front of dungeons shouting LFG until someone invites them. This system does not stretch across servers, or to other maps.
Hardly anyone uses the LFG system from Contacts. It could be that people dont know its there or it could be that these LFG systems where you put your name on some list has never worked for any MMORPG that has ever used them.
Systems like these are only as useful as he number of people in the system. If there is no one in the system then the system is useless. If the system is useless then why is it in the game?
Why are you neglecting a system that does work for a system that does not work?
It seems to me that if we’re going to have a community of interest portal for GW2, we ought to be able to come here and get the latest without having to go spelunking through somebody’s Twitter feed or Facebook hooha.
Would it be that difficult to include a widget to show the live and dev team tweets within the forum architecture?

Why shouldn’t they take inventory space?
Why should they? They don’t contribute anything.
Neither does my quaggan tonic.
Your tonic is a consumable. I hope your minis are not. I play a ranger. My ranger pets do not take an inventory slot. My equipped town clothes do not take a slot. My secondary weapon does not take a slot.
