How do you feel about GW2 right now?

I don’t know if everyone feels the same way I do about gw2 right now. For me, gw2 has become a ball of mess to the point that its become a little ridiculous:

EASY ways to make money: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHdeAaYz8gM

EASY dungeons: dungeons generally have become heavy zerkers only environment where everyones using the stacking “exploits”.

EASY pvp: AI minion builds (spirit ranger, minion mancer, pu mesmer) have become the new meta and the arenas littered with AI builds. There are also a few other OP builds that doesnt require AIs…

EASY wvw: Doesn’t matter how good your server is, more players + more coverage = win. Also, bring heavies only.

As for the open world pve, I get the idea of end-game ascended gear forcing players to go back to lower level zones for dragonite ores, but its turned into a waiting game: checking http://us.gw2stuff.com/ for world boss timers. The process of getting end-game gear is no longer fun, its become a time-gated waiting game; waiting for daily laurels, waiting for daily mats.

I understand that the devs are trying to fix some of these things right now (such as bringing down the zerker meta https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/PvE-Revising-the-DPS-Meta), but there have been some bad ideas that somehow managed to make its way into the game. Though, the game is still young and theres still time to fix a lot of loopholes and balance issues.

HOWEVER, if I could describe this game with one word at the moment, it would be frustrating.

Again, I am not using this thread as a way to defend female players, it’s a simple question.

Why is it that most guys think only guys play MMOs?

It’s an innocent question… Lets not all jump on Jaymee butt for it.

To answer the question, I don’t. I one time found myself in a full group of players, and all four of them felt the need to talk about how they were “Actual Girls”. I never revealed who I was, I just stood silent listening to their conversation about the same topic you are. I didn’t find that insulting, I just didn’t see the point in them having to identify themselves to me or anyone else when they are all playing on a game over the internet, thousands of miles away.

To me, I don’t care if you are a purple polka dotted gorilla with 6 arms from Saturn. You can still play the game, and do it in an intelligent, respectful way, right?

Uhhh… yeah… because lemme tell ya, should the situation be reversed, how many times does someone have to call you a girl before you feel the need to step up to that plate? lmao….

(Oh, and btw, that was an A-Class, 100% typical male comment you gave there… pat pat)

I wouldn’t care, unless they would treat me different because of it. But since this clearly doesn’t seem to be the case here, I really don’t see the issue.

And the last part is quite funny, seeing as you don’t really have a clue about if I am a man or not, so you are basically doing exactly what you are whinging about others doing.

Does it really matter? I was under the impression that girls wanted to be treated no different from guys when playing. But apparently it is important enough that you are a girl to warrant creating a thread about it?

Fitting penalties for committing this criminal act:

1. Guild influence and upgrade wipes, angering their leader and having him show up at their front doors with a hatchet

2. An angel loses its wings

3. Precision airstrikes

4. Permabanned from the internet

5. Banishment to the moon, life support included if any of the world’s governments will donate money

6. Perma-banishment from Guild Wars 2 with all the involved party’s collective wealth transferred to the victim(s)

7. A dinner date with Scarlet

8. Trahearne

9. Agents who follow them around and bring crying babies to every theater they visit

10. An arrow in the knee

1. Fix the issue where the dungeon ends if the party leader is kicked.
2. Implement a “kick timer” and require at least 3 people to confirm a kick. That way, if you abuse your kick privileges you’ll get timer that will cap out at 3-4 hrs. So people who kick randoms every dungeon run in order to bring in friends or guildies will very quickly face a four hour timer between kicks. The timer will start to go down if you abstain from kicking. The lesson here is : stop abusing it.

People who get kicked often, for ya know, playing an unapproved class in a dungeon will gain kick immunity after suffering through several kicks for daring to play the “wrong” class. Maybe this way, people who have the audacity to play something like a necromancer or an engineer will get to use the LFG tool and actually complete dungeons.

I must say this is the first time this happends to me, but it’s not the first time iv’e seen it or heard of it.
Just did fractals; two “fracts” in a necro in our team was kicked because the three other people in the group argued that he had an ugly face. So they invited a 4th from their guild.
We where then 4 from the same guild (some french server, don’t remember) and me a PU member.
When we came to Mai and after a few wipes had her down at less then 5% I got kicked.
I thought I DC’d at first, but then realized that the almsot 2 hours I invested in making this group move forward was a waste. When I then saw that my whole partychat was removed and that there was no “recently party members” tab I got angry.

Is there seriously no way to adress this type of behaviour?
Since every thing that tied you to the group is removed upon being kicked you can do nothing to prevent it to happend again! You can’t warn others or ignore them or anything, because you don’t know who they are.
That I didn’t receive my daily or progressed in Fractals is a bummer and annoys me. But I would rather have an option to contact these guys and ask them why they did things as they did. I think that an option as that would make alot of people think twice before they acted as a scumbag in a party.
As I stated in the title, right now you can easily be rewarded for being a kittenbag. Please fix this issue.

There are dozens of things they could have done with ascended gear that would have been better and more novel than the current implementation, including the things that you suggest. Instead they went with the dullest and most unimaginative implementation possible: “just put bigger numbers on it”. Ascended gear has unfortunately proven that ArenaNet is not looking to think outside the box at all when it comes to giving players a sense of progression.

tl; dr: when out of combat, characters can unlock, swap:
skins, stats, runes, sigils, infusions of all wearable gear

Guild Wars 2 launched with Legendary Weapons that require a lot of grinding to obtain, tons of various tier 6 fine crafting materials, karma, gold and a precursor weapon, obtained randomly or bought from the trading post for an outrageous amount of gold.

Throughout the year, I have seen lots of complaints regarding precursors in the official Guild Wars 2 forum, mainly about the acquisition method via the Mystic Forge. For example, some people have spent 600 gold by “gambling” rares or exotic weapons into the Mystic Forge but have not gotten a single precursor weapon.

I have seen guild members quit the game or become less active after obtaining their legendary weapons.

I have seen guild members quit the game after not able to obtain their precursors or legendary weapons.

Well, of course, they are also many guild members who kept on playing after gotten legendary weapons, and continue to work towards getting more legendary weapons.

Recently, legendary weapons have the new function to swap all possible stats combinations while disengaged (out of combat) while I agree this is a very convenient function however I cannot agree that this wonderful stats swapping function be limited to legendary weapons only.

The stats swapping function should be available for all types of wearable gear, not just legendary weapons.

With ascended armor being introduced soon, it is a good time to expand this stats swapping function into ascended gear via “piece by piece” stats unlocking for each piece of ascended gear.

For example, for a Zojja’s Greatsword to be able to swap its berserker stats into Soldier’s stats, a Chorben’s Chorben’s Soldier Inscription must be combined with the Zojja’s Greatsword with two (2) other more special materials in the Mystic Forge.

The legendary weapon will still have its prestige and convenience since it will have access to all possible stats combination right away as well as future stats combination as they are introduced into the game.

This way, people will have something solid to slowly work towards to instead of complaining not able to obtain their precursor due to the price on the trading post being too expensive. Even though it is said that the precursor weapons would be craft-able in the future but it will be quite a while before they implement that.

Factotum, explorable mode dungeons in GW2 are pretty terrible. I came from WoW too, so I understand. Dungeons are pretty much the only part of GW2 that appear blatantly defective. The best you’ll get to an experience you recall is doing the story modes. The explorables do not have nearly the same strength. The bosses really are not that difficult, but in time the correct way has become the cheesy way (simply because it is faster and more foolproof in a PuG setting.) There will be no change from the player until arenanet requires it. I’m sure the developers are well aware of the sad dungeon state. Possibly lacking here is time, manpower, monetary resources, and decisional authority. My understanding is that most of the dungeon team does living story now. Unless there is someone in one of the back room teams are working on major overhauls, these needed changes may take some time to emerge.

I hadn’t played GW2 in ages and decided to check what’s new and start a new character.

Besides finding that most of the bugs I reported over one year ago are still there (even some typos – how long can it take to fix that?) and that stealth is now seriously broken in PvE, I’ve now leveled my character high enough to do dungeons.

And it seems Arena Net went to the trouble of changing them (AC, at least), but somehow managed to make them even worse.

In AC story:

  • The troll is now insanely imbalanced for level 30 players (1-shot kills, attacks that go through walls and ignore stealth, etc.).
  • The “punchbag” bosses that just stood there (Kasha, Adelbern, etc.) still do just that (if anything, they seem to have been nerfed; you can now stand inside their AoE for ages). They really highlight the need for a /yawn emote.
  • The boulders now magically disappear every time they hit someone (they were the only thing that made the punchbag bosses fun – you know, fun, that thing people play games for?)
  • Ralena and Vassar no longer run to each other at 50% (the only part of the fight that required some awareness and tactics – now you just have to keep looking at the UI to see if you have confusion, and make sure someone has a bouncing attack to kill the little ghosts)

In AC explorable:

  • Half the encounters are now doable simply by stacking in some corner and casting randomly at the ground (sometimes without even seeing the enemy, due to the way the camera still gets stuck in walls). Blind spam wins the day 9 times out of 10.
  • The burrows in paths 1 and 3 are still DPS races, and having an elementalist with a frost bow still means instant win (while having five mesmers still means almost guaranteed fail). No wonder LFG is full of people asking for specific classes and pure DPS builds.
  • The only thing that seems to have been made more interesting was the final boss in path 2 (ghost eater / patriarch), but the new mechanics effectively make it into a DPS race as well (because players tend to just charge the three traps before pulling, and restart if the boss doesn’t die before those run out of charge); a much better design would be to have just one trap and encourage players to alternate between damaging the boss and recharging the trap.

I won’t say it’s as bad as what Blizzard did to the Deadmines in Cataclysm (because the original Deadmines were a lot more fun than any GW2 dungeon), but it’s pretty depressing to come back one year later and find that things moved backwards. Maybe the other dungeons have been improved, but I have a feeling that won’t be the case.

In addition to that, players still get booted from dungeons if the first one to enter has to leave (or gets disconnected, or decides to be a jerk), players still get almost no rewards if they leave (or get disconnected, or kicked) before the chest pop-up at the end, and players who join just before that pop-up still get the full reward (even if they don’t participate in the dungeon at all – no wonder LFG is full of people basically selling dungeon tokens).

Even assuming their in-house testing was horrible and they hadn’t spotted any of these things before release, surely they must be aware of them by now. How can it take a year and a half to fix this?

It seems Arena Net spent all this time adding temporary content (which new and returning players can’t even see) and adding a new and incredibly grindy tier of gear (which no one wanted – most people who came to GW2 from other games left those games precisely because they were tired of “stat upgrade” grinds), instead of fixing bugs and design flaws. And when they finally decide to change a dungeon, they make it worse.

How can a company get its pre-release “manifestos” so right and then get the execution so wrong? Were the guys who left to form Undead Labs the ones who had that original (inspired and inspiring) vision? Also, how hard can it be to hire someone with a clue (i.e., imagination and an understanding of fun) about dungeon design?

Guild wars 2 IS alt friendly

The game was alt friendly at the time of the original design. This has generally continued through the living story. The top level of itemization is now working against alts and will continue to do so as the gear grind continues continues. Making the fractal levels account bound appears to work for alts but the cost of high level AR could well exclude alts from top level fractals.

Ascended Armor Needs Laurels

Victory.2879

And yes, they did it…..

Now if you have more than one set of armor for each toon, and want infusions, you’ll be waiting MONTHS to be able to complete one set.

Add in alts, and the wait time gets even longer.

Stupid time gating.

Totally NOT alt friendly.

I guess they just don’t want players with alts or players who use more than one build.

I have a stunning total of 17 laurels, not even finished getting ascended rings etc for the current main and now face months before I am on a level playing field with the press 1 one build melee train heavy armor classes…

30 laurels + for one ring, then another 5 for one infusion..

and now 5 laurels for each piece of armor, +5 for infusions..

Thanks Anet.

By my reckoning if I NEVER miss a daily or monthly I’ll have my toons equipped with ascended items and gear sometime in late 2015 or spring 2016….

And WHY is it all account bound? At least make ascended items tradeable so everyone doesn’t have to do this ridiculous gear grind.

My normal fractal group and I had this same discussion two nights ago.
1 – Dredge is the longest most annoying fractal
2 – When the Dredge fractal is done… I’m wiped…. drained… done with the game
3 – I loathe Dredge so much, that I usually log out of the game minutes after leaving the fractal. I don’t even clean out my inventory or check the TP.

I love challenging new content, and not that dredge is that “challenging” it is just long and annoying as heck. Thankfully knocks on wood I haven’t rolled bombs in a while, otherwise I would probably just cry.

It’s rare to get a perfect run in, but it averages out to around 30-40 minutes…50 for a pug. Though I do like how you knocked it down to 20 minutes AND pugs.

Actually, if you were to read the posts above mine, you’d see that the people complaining about it in this thread are complaining about the difficulty, and that difficulty stems from the large numbers of mobs and the intricate mechanics required to progress (relative to other fractals, such as Battleground or underwater). They find it HARD to get past the dredge blocking the door. I find it easy with the right tools. Then they find it hard to kill the champion boss. I find it easy if you know where to stand. And if you want to speed up that fight, then you should figure out how to fight the boss in the middle of the “clown car” segment so you knock down both bars at once. As intended. Then they find it hard to kill the final boss. I find it easy if you have the right timing.

I can complete the dredge fractal at 40+ in a half hour, and come away with 40-50 heavy miner’s bags for my trouble. No, I’m not a special snowflake. Many more can do the same things. Those are the people who possess the capacity to learn and adapt their playstyle to the objectives they face.

I love fractals and I love 99% of the changes to fractals with this update. The new ones are great and I’m glad to see them revisited.

However, every single person I have ever run fractals with HATES dredge with a passion. It is the one fractal in the group that is just awful across the board. The amount of trash mobs and permanent respawns are completely ridiculous. I would be delighted to go into detail.

The beginning of the fractal is pure torture. The button puzzle is skipped by every single upper level group. Please understand how much we hate it. I don’t think you could find a single player that appreciates it. There should only be one or two mobs on the first buttons and about half of the trash mobs in the main room with two buttons and a switch.

After that is more trash leading up to two options the fractal chooses for you. Both are awful design and I’d be very happy to explain why!

The bomb room is caked full of unnecessary permanently respawning dredge. At 40+ levels (and even so 30’s) you cannot realistically kill them all before more show up. This forces you to skip trash even if you are trying to do everything legitimately. Using bombs on the wall spawns even more trash mobs are you serious??? So much so that shadow refuge or naked runs become a necessity. Even after the wall is down you still have an entire army of dredge to get through to get to the boss. Why would you ever need so many enemies for a 5 man team to fight through? It is pure insanity.

The alternate is the drill room that has a disgusting amount of dredge in it. Though this one isn’t quite as bad, it still requires an unnecessary amount of time killing hordes of dredge. When you finally get to the wall the respawns go infinite again and become so large that they once again must be skipped to get to the boss room. Please explain how this is fun for anyone. I have done dredge more times than I can count and I can’t remember a single time anyone has ever had fun with this.

Now, I’ll admit the mid boss fight isn’t bad. It has a block mechanic and a line AoE that makes it interesting enough. However, the big problem here is the horrendously long clown car fight. At upper 40’s you can clear the entire underwater fractal faster than you can kill the trash mobs that come pouring out of that clown car. It is excessive and dull and boring and why was this left in the game for over a year??? Of all the things to fix in fractals how was this not the #1? I don’t understand. It makes no sense. It is boring beyond belief. I seriously question my life’s choices every time I have to go through this clown care encounter it really is that bad.

If a group has decided not to commit suicide after the clown car then the end boss fight is probably the best part of the fractal. It is a unique mechanic that requires a bit of skill and coordination to get through. So, props for that but it is so hard to appreciate after all of the trash leading up to it.

Basically, can we please get this fractal fixed? Or removed? It is not fun and everyone hates it. EVERYONE hates it. Absolutely everyone. It is a horrendous blister on an otherwise great end game system. I cannot express how badly I loathe this fractal. If I had a silver for every complaint I’ve heard about this fractal I could afford an entire collection of precursors. Please, please, please do something about this. I never want to have to do this fractal ever again.

I have dishonored my server.

I have spent valuable minutes, perhaps hours, trying to do jumping puzzles, while there are queues to the borderlands, and the map chat is filling with requests to come defend hills, bay, and garrison.

I have disregarded cries to man the siege at garrison, simply because I only had 5 ruins left to flip to get my achievement.

I have let enemy players kill our dollies, when we’ve been so close to full T3 keeps, simply because they then would let me kill theirs.

I’ve abandoned the zerg, to stay in scout circles, while rushing to defeat an enemy zerg.

What have I gained for these dishonorable acts? What have I gained sacrificing fun and challenging play time for grinding out achievements? 1 rare, and some worthless skill tomes, and an ACCOUNT BOUND dolly.
