Don’t overthink it. Otherwise, anytime you died previously in the game wouldn’t make sense either. Remember: it’s still a game.

You don’t die in this game, you become defeated. While defeated is similar to death, you don’t actually die, because you can’t come back to life really easily. You basicly just pass out from being hit too much. When you are “revived” its like someone slapping you to wake up after being passed out drunk.

Good thing jumping into lava can’t kill me, or falling hundreds of feet, or getting blown up, stabbed in the back, impaled, etc, etc.

It’s like Mount and Blade, where the player character only goes unconscious despite taking arrows, swords, two handed axes, and javelins to the head.

Good times.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Also one would wonder what player friendliness has to do with the game’s difficulty.

When the game is more difficult, people ask more questions. If the people there don’t reply (because they’re not friendly enough), then that affects the difficulty even more. When other people turn off chat because nobody is helping anyhow, that makes it even more difficult.

So, yeah, it affects difficulty quite a bit.

…..What? Is that even an argument?

Aside from a certain someone religiously defending HoT in every single thread…
Ahem.

I agree with the 3rd design flaw, which could have been addressed with more adventures.
But, then there is the issue of adventures just being mini-games, and I think a wider range of adventures with different challenges and goals in mind would easily fix this issue.
Adventures have a lot of room for improvement, and they still can expand on them if they wanted.

For example, what if there was an adventure with a mordrem sniper/sharpshooter ace and you had to have a sniper’s duel and utilize stealth and positioning to beat him, as well as well aimed shots.

Or what if there was one with infiltrating a mordrem camp and rescuing pact soldiers?

In my opinion, the problem with adventures is that they are set up as time trials with a goal attached, and none of them offer slower paced, but equally challenging and rewarding content.

Upgrading Dragon Champion to Raid Boss

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: AWACS.6537

AWACS.6537

It’s time to upgrade those pushovers into real monsters.
The elderly dragons are supposed to be our main enemy, yet we have a bandit with a flamethrower that is more dangerous than the Dragon’s lieutenants ever were.

We can have each dragon reward different builds and playstyles.
Here are my ideas… Didn’t put too much thought on each one though, just a rough outline.

Maybe the Claw of Jormag is less about DPS race and more about survival?
An unrage timer?!

Perhaps Zhaitan has a champion come back for revenge.
Tequtal the funless? No, no.. I think he’s been used enough.
How about one of the ones that got shot in the face in the final battle against Zhaislam? Maybe they summon lots of enemies that overwhelm you, but you can knock them off with focused CC. Doesn’t even have to be a dragon, maybe a lich or something.

Shatterer? Give him lightning fast attacks that will be a shocking surprise to anyone who face the storm.

I just threw these ideas in to help people make their own ideas of an ideal Dragon champion raid. If you’ve got a good suggestion, put it here.

You need to be out of your mind to expect an expansion to be as big as the core game..

Guild wars 2 is the only game where people complain about a reasonably priced expansion, the only MMO i have ever seen where people compare an expansions size to the original game(news flash, the original game took MANY MORE YEARS TO MAKE)

This community is out of its frigging mind. Compared to other fully priced expansions in other games HOT is just fine, especially if you consider how many patches and more content we will get for the price we spent.

WOD has less content than HOT has for example and recieved only a few kittenty patches, now everyone is stuck there waiting for the next expansion.

YOU DID NOT ONLY PAY FOR THE NEW ZONES, YOU ALSO PAID FOR ALL THE PATCHES TO COME. New living world seasons, new zones. New raids and who knows what else.

So are you telling me that I bought a season pass instead of an expansion?

The point I was trying to make is that its possible to have different groups of people in a guild. You dont have to have a guild that only does 1 thing. The incentive for pve’rs are no doubt in jeopardy because guild members playing wvw do not contribute to pve play. I would focus on recruiting pve’rs who like to occasionally play wvw, and have this occasional experience to be the best it can.

And you don’t have to be a guild that does everything.

I’m not sure about a solo mode, but I’d rather token rewards be increased
.
If there is going to be a solo mode, then they could remove the requirement of having players push stuff at the same time, and have NPCs make up for missing players. Obviously the NPCs would be nowhere as good as real people, but it’s better than nerfing dungeon difficulty directly. We would further cannibalize the content if everyone goes in alone, butchering the fact that it was created as group content.

Edit: Also, maybe include an option to customize the NPC commands.
Maybe NPC 1 has CC and more vitality and toughness.
NPC 2 blasts fields for you.
Downside of going into solo mode would be less liquid rewards.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

AWACS.6537

At this point..
Probably not. Unsure.

They seemed to have known that they could not make enough content, so instead, they gave you content you would have to play hundreds of times, over and over again. And I’m perfectly fine with the difficulty, it’s actually not difficult.

However, I feel very disappointed with the story’s writing and length.
The story is gated behind the open world maps, which are designed to be completed over and over again… Which is designed for you to have masteries…which you will need to do that content… Again, and again.
I like the meta events, I always feel excited when we’re at the final moment in Tarir…
But there’s only 3 maps that people actually do the meta on..
And now Verdant Brink is having issues with raiders sitting outside of the entrance to the raid.

The artificial lengthening of the story is completely gone once you unlock the masteries, and you can see how short it is on a second character or a third. I really like the mechanics within the new story, far better than the original story.. however, there is nowhere near the amount of text based dialogue that would allow players to learn about anything. In Rata Novus, there could have been LOTS of information that players could have gone through, instead, we trudge through and forget it. We’re even left hanging at the end with an incredibly weak ending that feels as if it was not finished at all.

Another thing is that sPvP only received one map, and we have no word on another stronghold map. Same with fractals, except there isn’t a new map there either. Dungeons were cannibalized, and they could have easily increased token rewards or changed the difficulty of the dungeon to make it worth the while. WvW is also dead, and there is rarely anything interesting in the borderlands.

The music is amazing, it’s way better than the base game. However, this music is not used anywhere else, not even the new WvW map or Stronghold.

I like stronghold as a new mode, but there needs to be more than one map.
sPvP is in need of more variation. There’s a lot of options open in this game mode, and I can see a lot of cool ideas working into this if they make more maps.
Right now, you just push down either lane. But how about a variation with more direct engagements? A variation with more fighting, replacing door breakers with swordsmen? An RTS version? There’s a lot of untapped potential here.

I’m not the kind of gamer that buys games to get my “money’s worth”.
I don’t measure quality with quantity.
However.. HoT takes good quality, and then it tries to stretch it out for as long as possible.

If they’re still releasing HoT content…

I’d want to see more masteries that are interesting and not required. ( Lore? )
I want to see new 5 man PvE content. ( Fractals/Dungeons )
I want to see new raids.
I’d like for the story to be properly finished with a satisfying ending.
Revive WvW, through server merging or incentives.
More stronghold maps.
Better LFG tool.
New weapons and armor sets.
A dialogue update across some Tyria that reflects a more up to date timeline.
Zhaitan has been dead for a while. Charr and humans have been at piece for a while too.. The world isn’t living if nothing changes.

I think I’ll be more convinced if we could get some of those.

Making gold without HoT became frustrating...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AWACS.6537

I used to run dungeons and fractals dailies, now one got nerfed very hard, the other is a gold sink and gated behind the expansion on top of it (can’t get past lvl76 without grinding a lot more because of masteries…), and the only way now is SW which is annoying because of how many times I did it. Let’s not forget PvP too with the unbalanced Elite specs…
There’s also TP flipping but it ended badly, I made a stock of Tattered Batwings before the end of Halloween, hoping that the price would go up a lot but it decreased by 100% of it’s initial value two days after…

I know this is to make the expansion more appealing, but so far I don’t think it’s worth 40€ (25€ seems more like a fair price), I’m waiting for Raids and the rewards for doing these aswell as the changes in Fractals rewards, but otherwise I’m not tempted to buy it, there’s too much content that have not been finalized within it like the story, some missing components etc…

its only 50 dollars, here is how u can afford it, instead of going to macdonald every day, just go once a weak, thats 35 dollars saved! Instead of going to movie theatre every week, just dont go to the moves this week thats 10 dolalrs, now u have 45 dollars. Instead of eating candies every day, just dont eat candies today and tahts 5 dollars! now u have your 50 dollar so go buy the expansion!

He didn’t say he couldn’t afford it.

ArenaNet... personal damage meter ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AWACS.6537

AWACS.6537

A very simple solution to the meter is to add a bigger and better meter.

One that tracks everything, like the PvP panel at the end of a match, detailing damage, boons, conditions, boon strips, Condi cleanse, Condi damage, revives, healing, interrupts,

Then, add a reset button and a menu that allows you to see those numbers, but not in real time. Maybe 10 seconds out of combat, so idiots will avoid staring at it while pressing 1.

ArenaNet... personal damage meter ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AWACS.6537

I never understand the argument for “how great a DPS meter is”, since we can go to games right now with a DPS meter and see how “wonderful” it is.

And while you can argue that the mighty few will use it properly to find the correct dps build, guess what the majority of players (you know, the ones that either don’t visit the forums at all, or very rarely), will do? Abuse the heck out of it or misuse it, causing more annoyances than needed.

People will be paying more attention to their numbers on the meter than what’s in the screen, thus missing when to dodge and just end up dying but “i hit 10k dps!”. Some people are downed and need help back up (note, not the dead dead, downed state), “but if I do that, my dps will suffer!”.

This is why even a personal one can cause problems, as again, focus will be on the meter and not the screen. Looking at it from a macro point of view, its a bad idea.

We can look at WoW and its Dps meters, and let me ask you this, how balanced are those classes in numbers? They aren’t? But they have so much outsourcing and people showing them the numbers to be adjusted!

How many instances in a dungeon group in WoW did you have someone linking the dps meter? In other words, their eyes weren’t on the screen, but on the meter. Or how often did you see someone in a raid standing in fire, continuing to dps because numbers?

So you can argue all you want how it can “make the game better”. I can already draw up current implementations and see how a dps meter hasn’t made a game any better at all.

We can visually see things like that.
If you run in, pew pew, die to AoE, ignore downed, only auto attacks, face tank…
Then we know if you did something or not, giving us visual feedback, which is already in the game. You will know if someone is inexperienced if they constantly do things that get them ( or others ) killed.

It’s not going to be a secret when Phil or Bob decide to stand somewhere and die. They can’t hide that fact.

It’s not a secret when John runs over to revive Jack, and stops attacking for a moment.

If someone has eyes glued to the numbers, then they have bigger issues to worry about.

ArenaNet... personal damage meter ?

AWACS.6537

However without a damage meter i fear we are looking at another 2 years of “meta builds” which work from about 50% less of what they are advertised at via math-in-a-void all… the way to 5% based on the encounter’s mechanics.

Essentially this guys.

Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on how you look at it), there will always be a “meta”. A mass amount of people will accept like always, and will doing the normal/expected thing of excluding casuals and whatnot… It’s unavoidable, undeniable, inevitable – get over it.

So, why not have the proper tools to do it right? To actually build a meta on solid data rather than napkin notes. It’s not as harmful as people think. Of course they can make the dps meter just show personal dps, so that dps isn’t the reason someone is kicked (since other’s still can’t see it).

a damage meter is very harmful for the community it will destroy the very fabric of what makes guild war great! Guild war at its current state is a very friendly game. For example I just completely a level 100 fractal after 20 wipes and nobody complained we just kept trying until we succeed! now imagine what a damage meter will do? people will whine complain and boot, it is not the game i want!
plus I think a lot of the fun is not knowing how good your build really is, it is about experimenting and feeling the game and the character!

Couple of things…

The dps meter can be either personal or not-personal (group can see it), it will have different effects. In the event that the group can see your dps, that will be the reason they kick you. In the event that the group can’t see your dps, you will be kicked due to not complying with the “meta” (which WILL exist, regardless of having a meter or not.)

Having a personal dps meter, which will leading to creating a meta based on factual data will lead to better meta builds.

The fact that you wiped 20 times and no one complained, isn’t because a dps meter didn’t exist. It’s because the group allowed it, they weren’t impatient. Perhaps, they didn’t even care for meta builds either.

Having a personal dps meter will lead to no change in community, but will lead to solid meta builds with real numbers as proofs. Since, let me explain it again, since people won’t be able to kick you for dps (since they can’t see it), they will still kick you for not complying to the meta if it’s something they care about (which already happens!). Which again, in your case of wiping 20 times, people perhaps weren’t impatient and maybe didn’t care for the meta…

You’re not afraid of a personal dps meter, you’re afraid of the meta and the people that care too much for it.

Hell, it will even help you experiment properly with different builds.

I honestly don’t see any harm from having personal dps meters.

we dont need a dps meter for meta, as I have played many RPG I know all the harm a dps meter can do to a group moral. When I was raid leading in world of warcraft one of the biggest rules is never insult me the raid leader, because as a raid leader I am responsible for group moral. Usually what happens is a tank who thinks he is so valuable to the raid he can say whatever he want and insult anyone he wants, and it usually is a big surprise when I boot his kitten . You see where I am going? if people join raid, get booted, get harassed, get kicked, get insulted, this ripple effect will effect every other part of the game, and over time guild war 2 will become just like wow, and I did not buy guild war 2 because it is like wow, i bought guild war 2 excatly because it is not wow. I also strongly believe the best part of the game is not have a damage meter, this allows me to try different build and to get a feel for different build, that alone is worth the price of admission!

So you’re upset that someone calls you out for being useless?

In a raid situation, the group can not afford to have multiple people like you ‘experimenting’ with different builds. It’s more than than just being ‘meta’, it’s showing how much work you put out. If you are a bit weaker than other people, then it doesn’t matter. But if you’re considerably weaker, then there is an issue. And if you’re downed most of the time on top of that, then you’re an even bigger issue. And if you bring no useful utility on top of that, you’re almost a liability. Raids are supposed to be considerably harder compared to dungeons or fractals, and wiping on it twenty times is not my idea of fun.

Even with the DPS meters, you don’t have to play with the meta build if you can find another build that works. But you’re different, you actually don’t want the meter so you can slack off, as revealed by your countless HoT nerf threads. If you don’t want to work for the rewards, don’t do the content.

How does one counter dragon hunter?

in PvP

Posted by: AWACS.6537

AWACS.6537

Channel your inner Admiral Akbar and avoid the traps.
If you absolutely have to go through the traps, avoid walking over test of faith too many times, you may get knocked in and out for massive damage.

Dragon’s Maw is also a killer, you’ll be trapped unless you have a means to escape, so remember if that particular dragonhunter is using that elite or not, some guardians say it is useless, but I find it to be a lethal tool.

When you get hit by a spear of justice, there’s a solid chance that you’ll be pulled into a barrage of traps, so watch out. Position yourself between an object if you have to, or dodge the spear. I found that pulling foes into a maw combined with procession of blades to be a deadly combo for enemy targets with no valid escape options.

Interrupt the healing skill if you can, the one with wings, as it can be interrupted and you can deny a heal to the enemy team. If you don’t, you’ll be punished by a healed dragonhunter who also may have just healed some of his people.

Notice the patterns of traps. If he puts it right on you, there probably isn’t another trap around, at least, not the same trap. If he dumps his whole load on you, then you’ll have an opening after the traps are wasted. Also, traps from dragonhunter have a distinct audio cue, listen for those.

Also, if they don’t drop them at your feet, there are probably traps at chokepoints. This is to control movement and punish players who walk into the trap. ’It’s a trap!’ Preemptive activation of the traps will essentially waste the trap for them, unless you get pulled back into the trap. Also, if you’re playing with conditions, don’t hit the giant blue shield. Every block will remove a condition if they’re running hunter’s fortification.

Again, the elite is lethal, especially if you are mainly melee and have nothing to defend yourself with and nothing to escape with.

Classes with blocks, invulnerablity, or a way to teleport out, will have a better chance of avoiding the upcoming burst that usually comes after the maw.

[Spoilers] Story quality way too low

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Story was much better in gameplay, but felt very rushed.
In fact, it only had TWO more chapters more than the final arc of the original story.

I’m hoping a living story season will conclude the story properly, as well as give some new insight and additional content.

I enjoy the new music, however, the old music in sPvP is getting a bit stale…
I also know you can just edit the files for the music, but I’m not really an expert on that, and I also think it would be a nice touch to spice up the old maps.
