I wouldn’t mind if shield 4 was a ground targeted symbol, but I’m not sure how to balance that.
Or maybe it could turn into a melee range knockdown/daze.

I currently feel shield 4 is boring to use, and I don’t see myself using it over the other options.

Life Deal with it.

Seeing as how you apparently were parted from your money by buying this expansion, you are one to talk.

On the other hand, the new players that got GW2 during the $10 sales were specifically told to do so. http://web.archive.org/web/20150401200009/https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/105801626-Guild-Wars-2-Heart-of-Thorns-FAQ

Q: Do I have to own Guild Wars 2 to play the expansion?
A: Yes. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is an expansion to Guild Wars 2 and not a stand-alone campaign, and therefore it requires the base game to play.

So, you are honestly trying to support that a corrupt-to-the bone company that directly lies to get more sales is above criticism, and these players should just “deal with it”?

You need to learn to read bro. Nothing in the quote you stated contradicts Anets decision to include the base game with the expansion.

That is:

(1) the expansion isn’t a stand alone game (true);
(2) therefore you need the base game to play the expansion content (true).

Their inclusion of the base game with the expansion doesn’t contradict their previous statement in anyway.

That is:

they didn’t say you had to PAY for the base game in addition to the expansion.

Right?

Yeah… getting outraged for no reason other than your poor reading comprehension… sigh…

Q: Do I have to own Guild Wars 2 to play the expansion?
A: Yes. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns is an expansion to Guild Wars 2 and not a stand-alone campaign, and therefore it requires the base game to play.

I don’t know what that says, but you are a pretty obvious fanboy if you think the above statement changing has nothing wrong with it even though it’s misleading consumers.
You are being so literal just to defend them, but every single person who has read that FAQ and the one after that can tell it was changed for very clear reasons.

“therefore it requires the base game to play.” That alone pretty much says we need the base game too, and then shortly after it was changed because GW2 came with the base game, so they changed the FAQ too. I wish I sold something to you, because I know you’d defend it even though I’d change important details, trying to be discreet as possible, get caught, and you’d still try to defend it. Again, HoT is now the base game as the core game isn’t available to buy anymore, it contradicts everything and is extremely anti-consumer, especially since they had a bunch of $10 dollar sales a few months ago and they need to buy HoT ( which happens to come with the core game )

How much did Anet paid you for this message? Explain why existing players are denied a chance to create a revenant without paying another $10 more. I am not even factoring the free game.

Because it costs money to develop the revenant? Explain to me why paying for the core game entitles you to free content in perpetuity?

You know… the all the real HUMANS who work for the company have bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Uh, they don’t work to protect or anything, we don’t owe anything to them and they’re trying to sell something to us, we are not throwing money at them so they can survive. Explain to me why you think we should just buy it just so we can feed them and pay their bills? THEY are selling to ME. It is not the other way around.

Same boat….

Old customers/loyal player base are expected to pay more for the same game than newer players…

I’ll explain as simple as I can:
Player 1- Bought the game at release for $60-$80 depending on situations. (mine was $80, EB Games Australia)
Player 2- Still hasn’t looked at Guild wars 2 because they have been enjoying other games for the last 3 years

With the expansion coming out:
Player 1- Will now have to pay a further $50 for an expansion to a game they own, which I believe no one would have cared about, making a total of $110-$130 spent.
Player 2- Randomly walks into a game shop with some birthday money or spare cash, see’s Guild Wars 2 + expansion on sale for $50, takes it home and enjoys full benefits of a game, a total of $50 spent.

The loyal customer has paid more money just for the original game without the expansion while the new player pays less and acquires more. – Understandably making vet players a little angry and left out after having stuck with Anet for so long. The best compensation they can provide is a free game copy in which they hope player 1 will use to bring in player 3 but all that will most likely happen is a bunch of forgotten codes, hack accounts, alt accounts, spy accounts for wvw and what have nots… It will also provide an unrealistic view of how many actual players are on a server or play the game…. kinda adds to population balance problems even further.

I think it would have been in good taste to give us a char slot. But i don’t think you can expect them to still ask 50 bucks for a 3 year old game. If i buy COD 2 years after release, it’s gonna be cheaper. Even if they added some extra maps.

And why have people never been this upset about the sales weekends then? New ppl were able to buy the game for 10 dollars, a lot less than veteran players. Noone kittened about that

Obviously not, because they have to buy the $50 expansion just like the rest of us, AND they still get a copy they can’t use.

These sales was cool, cause people was able to buy it cheap, and play a game before HoT comes out. Lvl some characters and stuff like that, to be rdy for HoT. But alot of them probable knew that basic game will be much cheaper or even Anet will giveaway it with HoT. What Anet already did. But if some1 did not expect this then… he’s not smart for sure. Sorry.

That makes zero sense if you already had the game before it was announced, and it doesn’t help with the fact that they would ALREADY own the game.

I’m sorry but it’s kinda ridiculous that people are angry that others are getting sth that they don’t need themselves. I’d agree if the expac was cheaper for new players or sth like that. That would have been very unfair and not okay.

But that some new player is getting the core game with it, why would that bother me?
I’m glad, cause it’ll be an incentive for people to buy this bundle and that means more players ingame.

To be honest, the game does not need to be aim for brand new players, the game already hit it’s peak at release and probably won’t ever be as high again unless they release something incredibly amazing soon, most likely they won’t even have that many more brand new players, veterans will still be the largest population by far.

GW2 is a 3 years game no matter how good the expansion will be. its not a brand NEW GAME. expansion still an expansion.

So? How old is WoW and people continue to play it and return to it every time one of their $50 expansions comes out. The fact is, people will and already have bought it. Dozens of people have posted that they bought the ultimate edition. Obviously this isn’t an issue, nor is the price, nor is the fact that the standard version doesn’t include a character slot.

Of course they bought the ultimate edition.

As I remember, FAQ said that u’ll need the base game to play HoT – and nothing changed. U still need the base game. They just announced that there’s new option to buy a game, which is 2 in 1 (GW2 + HoT). Deal with it.

That is THE option to buy the game.
The core purchase is not available. You are STUPID if you think we just ‘deal with it.’
That means HoT has essentially become the core game and that older copies are now worthless.

IMO the only stupidity is to buy a basic game, when u already know that expansion is coming out. It was obvious that they’ll announce some 2 in 1 stuff, or something like that. Anyway, I was writing about it months ago… ’ -’

What, are you saying we should have never bought GW2 in the first place? Do you always buy your games 3 years after release?

I kind of started the day outrage surfing, essentially laughing at all the kitten kids going crazy with their overwrought sense of entitlement.

Now though, now it’s just kind if dirty. Is this really how the world works now, where people riot over someone else getting a gift or over not being given enough gifts themselves?

I am only sad.

LOL, yes so much entitlement. They are all ‘kids’ right? I mean, they have to be childish if they are annoyed and irritated when there are cheap business practices.
It’s not just about the ‘free game’. ( Although it certainly isn’t free. )
Of course, you wouldn’t know that because you are sad. You have no idea why people are angry in the first place, do you?

I didn’t it was such a childish thing to be cautious about things.
It must be an ‘mature’ thing to blindly throw money at the screen without even knowing the details.

People are angry because of many things. The pricing for one. Is the expansion REALLY worth $50? Is there enough content in it? Or, is it 50 dollars because they tacked on the ‘free’ game? Why is there no option to not buy the expansion individually? If it’s free, why do we not get the option to use it on another account as we please? We’re the ones who pay for it.
Another thing is the fact that they’ve been really dodgy. They’ve changed the FAQ, they’ve provided VERY FEW responses, and with one of them being very useless and honestly, it seemed like it was just intended to vex the players. They will not tell us how much is actually in the expansion.
Another thing is the complete disregard for players who already had GW2. It’s not about entitlement, it’s the fact that if we buy the standard edition ($50) we’re going to have to spend $10 more dollars to get a character slot so we can buy the new character, and yet they can’t even provide that for whatever reason, despite it being digital content, meaning they’ll lose NOTHING. For players saying ‘Convert Gold to Gems’, those players have no clue that gems prices are going to drastically increase, making a lot harder to get a character slot without paying REAL money. Perhaps because they’re blindly and mindlessly defending something and being extremely aggressive, or maybe because they’re like you. Sad.
Another thing, the expansion IS the core game now. The option to buy the core game alone isn’t even there anymore, meaning Arenanet has now defined HoT to the base game as it is the only option, and they are charging full price for it.
This means that what we have now is WORTHLESS.

I will repeat this as many times as I have to.

The players do NOT work for the game developers.
It is NOT our job to pay for them, it is NOT our job to support them.
In fact, THEY should try to convince us to buy the expansion, we shouldn’t buy games to ‘support’ them when they are doing well enough. It’s not like they won’t eat if you don’t buy a pack of gems. They work for our money, and we buy what we like.
It’s simple, if I like what they are doing, I see something on the gem store I really like, I might grab it. Players who simply purchase gems just to ‘support’ the developers are encouraging bad behavior, of course, we’ve already seen this with the amount of things they release on the store, and now the store is going to be important if you want that extra slot to play the new class.

End of controversy, and watch the wallets come flying out!

No it won’t. People would start complaining that they don’t want the character slot and demand gems instead.

HoT Standard Edition with garanteed access to Revenant: $60

XD. For veteran Only.

Yes, of course. New players will gain direct access to the new class if they wish to.

We are so greedy.

And in return they lose access to one of the core classes that you got ‘guaranteed’ access to when you bought the game three years ago.

Everybody who’s never bought slots will, in HoT, have five slots to split between nine classes. Nobody’s gaining or losing anything they didn’t already have/not have.

Seriously. Slots are not that expensive. Yes, it was churlish of ArenaNet to not include one in the budget-priced expansion, but I would posit that the sixth slot should be a bonus for everyone, not just vets. They already practically give the base game away on Special Event Weekends as it is, why is this such a poopocalypse?

Seriously. This is not the issue we should be concerned with. The issue we should be concerned with is the appalling and unacceptable lack of a physical Collector’s Edition. I need a gloriously oversized RevLock statue to sit on my shelf next to my OG Rytlock.

Let’s break it down, assuming typical numbers…

WoW, EQ2, etc:
$15 per month for a year = $180
$40 for an expansion
TOTAL – $220 a year (assuming 1 expansion per year)

GW2:
$60 for game at release
No monthly subscription
$50 for 1st expansion in 3 years
TOTAL = $110 over 3 years, or average $36.67 per year

So, over 3 years, the typical player would have spent $660 in WoW, EQ2 or any typical subscription game. But only $110 in GW2. Does not seem like a bad deal to me. The only criticism I have is that, with a new Profession coming out, I feel all editions should include the free character slot.

Cashshop…..cough cough…

Cash shop is completely optional. No one has to use it. There is nothing game-changing in the Gem Shop. Any money you, I, or anyone else used to buy gems was by choice, not a requirement.

Cashshop isn’t a requirement but it’s a source of revenue for Anet & some player spend a lot on Cashshop in real money.
You are just taking the lower end of the bracket when it’s come to player spending on GW2.

The cash shop WILL become a requirement if you want to play the new class and don’t want to delete an existing character.

The core game for free to new players is a nice gesture.

Show me the link where I can download the base game for free. Hint: There isn’t one.

It’s not a nice gesture. It’s a product included in a bundle and given an arbitrary estimated value of $0.

I would say the vets still have the advantage, they were able to play and progress throughout the game for 3 years.

And they paid $60 for that “privilege”, Anet didn’t do them any favours.

The core game comes free with the pre order, look it up on their official facebook.

Yeah it’s great we all bought the game early but they are helping new players, and not obligated to offer us anything. 3 LS and EoTM has been a blast.

Is it really free like they’re saying, or are they tacking on 10 bucks to the expansion and claiming it’s free, so we’d have to pay $50 under the idea that it was free? Also, it’s certainly not ‘free’ for veteran players because they’re still paying $50 and not getting the extra piece, and we’re spending an extra $10 dollars for a character slot if we want to play the new class.

If you do not like it, just don’t buy it and SHUT UP

well, that’s a nice attitude you’ve got there, but it’s about as constructive as a lit stick of dynamite.

the way that companies and customers get the best relationship – and the best value – form each other is by communicating. after all, you can spend a million dollars on ten ideas and none sell, or you could ask people what they want, spend a fraction of the money, and have it sell well.

feedback is an important source of information to companies. true, much of the feedback on the forums is excessive, confused and contradictory, but knowing what their fanbase thinks is going to help Anet a lot more than not.

if people just don’t buy it, then Anet sees the low sales, and thinks “what went wrong?”
if people don’t buy it, and explain why (preferably with polite, constructive feedback) then Anet can fix the problem.

I don’t disagree with what you said however public game forums are not the best way. Perhaps a focus group setting would be better. All I am stating is I’m tired of the forums blown up by a bunch of spoiled brats.

Yes spoiled brats who feel THEY know what is best. Ever heard about opinions? Has anyone stopped and asked, hey I wonder what ANet’s overhead is. I mean everyone seems to forget that game companies have bills. Everything is going up including developer costs. If they have a good developer how are they supposed to keep them if they can’t pay competitive wages because the public is irked about the cost of a product.

If you are going to call everyone with a valid reason a ‘spoiled brat’…
Can I call you a mindless fanboy? How about a deluded zealot? You keep trying to defend anet, but you really aren’t helping with the amount of ‘constructive’ posts you’re making.

Also, it is not the player’s job to fund the game developers.
No, far from it.
It is THEIR job to make us WANT to buy the game so they can get money. We are not investors, we are consumers who are looking for something to buy. The fact that they’ve lost consumer trust with fishy marketing, lack of real responses, and not really giving consumers enough details is probably the worst part of this situation. Again, why in the world would you want to buy something from someone you can’t trust?

People like you are making the games industry fail, you are lowering your standards because you are a fan, and you are supporting moneygrubbing attempts, and you seem to believe the playerbase lives to support the developers of any game, but it’s simple. They make something we want, we buy it. We don’t know what they offer, we become skeptical, they lose our trust, we become distrustful.

They can see the opportunity to NOT give us a character slot, so we’d have to get a better edition of the game so we can actually buy or, we’d have to buy gems.

Why I almost bought the ultimate edition

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: AWACS.6537

AWACS.6537

  • Saw the in-game thing, and was all excited.
  • Saw the ultimate option had a gem discount, and was “:-O want!”
  • Saw that standard didn’t come with a character slot when every previous guild wars series expansion that added classes did, and I would also be paying for a base game account I don’t get, and literally logged out of game in disgust.

I am no stranger to the gem store, and was literally moments from dropping a hundred dollars on a game with no release date like it was nothing, but how can I morally support this nonsense? Anet has clearly changed from their gw1 days, and this is a change I can’t support. And for that, Anet just lost out on a $90 sale, and ensured that I probably won’t making any gem purchases for awhile(I had been eyeing up more than $50 worth of stuff). Makes you wonder how many more sales like that they lost.

Now if Anet were to come to their senses, and added a character slot to the standard version(even if just for veteran players like in GW1), then they could easily count on my purchase of the ultimate edition.

Well if you wanna play the new class, you’d better shell out even more money for that slot, because Anet is being pretty mute on these issues.

I’d be happy if I got a free base game code to make an alt to do ac with and a hot upgrade code for my main for $50..

Or at least a free character slot or something.

You’re asking too much.
I’m afraid you’ll need to spend 10 extra dollars, sorry, but I can’t explain to you why.

Quit your whining. The customer service, the constant new content we get, and now this amazing expansion…… We need to help them pay their developers. Get over yourselves.

I don’t know about you, but we got a bunch of repetitive open world content and a subpar story that really only got better at the end. If you think people are just ‘whining’ then you need to stop bending over for anet and understand the developers are doing well enough and we don’t need to ‘help’ them pay for anything, they should be trying to convince us to buy the expansion, we shouldn’t be wanting to spend money just to help them. We are CONSUMERS. Get over yourself.

“UR A CASUL NOOB CANT BUY CHARACTUR SLOT LELELELELELE” -briggah.7910

Very few people are looking long term into this, gem prices soar due to people needing character slot, people buy gems with real money so they don’t have to grind as much, anet gets even more money, since players will need to buy a slot, the expansion, AND no one knows how much content is truly in HoT, other than the fact that anet seems to be intent on making us have a lot of ‘replayability’ AKA more grinds.

Thanks Arenanet, I’m happy, I understand both arguments but sso many people don’t. CORE GAME IS FREE FOR THOSE WHO DONT ALREADY HAVE IT!!!

A lot of people understand that the core game is free for people who DO NOT have it.
That’s the main reason why people are irritated.

I got this!

Look, you need to add a new option for the expac. An expac only option. If you want to charge $49.99 for it, be my guest, I would suggest you give a lot more detail, a lot more quickly about the size of this expansion. It’s replay-ability, how many zones, dungeons, raid-type content? New fractals? From a content release, how does it compare to your last true expac, EOTN?

I can accept some inflation on pricing, but just justify it a bit more than you have. The Guild Hall announcement was amazing. It’s like you read my mind. Pretty much everything I wanted appears to be going into Guild Halls. But that’s been completely overshadowed by the pre-purchase boondoggle. And a boondoggle it is.

Here’s how to fix it: Have a new player and existing player option at the $49.99 price point.

New Player Option
-this is exactly what you can get now, base game, title, beta access and HoT expansion when it comes out.

Veteran Player Option
-Requires you to already own Guild Wars 2
-includes the Title, BETA Access and HoT expansion on release… AND…
-1 Character slot
-1 Bank Slot upgrade (for all that new loot you’re about to get)

That is all, carry on. Also, any player who already purchased option one and owned the game prior to doing so gets automatically upgraded to the Veteran Player option.

thanks!

They don’t want to do that.
Especially since they WANT you to get gems to ‘upgrade’ your account, like character slots and bank slots, so you’ll spend extra money to get those. Also, they’re being really dodgy with questions about content, which makes me feel like they know it’s not really worth $50, probably less.

And this is why people are annoyed. They’re trying to lay it off as ‘free’ but then again, why don’t we get it then if it’s free? We don’t even get the option to simply upgrade the game at a cheaper price and they expect players to be content. The fact that they seriously want us to buy another character slot or get a more expensive version is irritating, and gem prices are certainly going to inflate.

You know, since people are saying
“HURR DURR BUY A CHARACTER SLOT YOU FILTHY CASUAL YOU DONT HAVE GOLD YOU ARE BAD AT GRILL WARS TWO”

I thought I’d bring up a question on how gem prices ( for gold ) are going to skyrocket, then players are going to buy gems with REAL money and sell them for in game money to get even more money.

It’s not really free, but rather free WITH HoT. It’s like buying a hotdog sandwich and getting a free drink, as opposed to buying the drink standalone. It’s an incentive for new players.

We’re still paying the exact same price for less.
It’s like you pay 5 bucks for a drink.
You pay another 5 bucks for the hotdog.

The new customer pays 5 bucks for both the drink and the hotdog.

There needs to be an option to trade the “Free” core game in for other stuff, like a character slot and some gems to go with it.

Either that, or the option to be able to use the “free” core game with another account is desperately needed.
