I have noticed the same problem, i’m having a countless number of fights as random where my team is 4 players and opponent are 5 . It might be my luck simply, or players just going offline and who forgot leaving the tournament, but it happens so many times that i’m trying to wonder if it’s not simply a bug..
Sometimes this happens ( at least for me) when i’m waiting a tournament to start. Apart of that, i don’t really find a good reason to leave the match to avoid dying..
This event was great, especially the puzzle and the bell choir which was pretty original.
Maybe the only negative point i would say is that everything was based on luck and skill wasn’t really rewarded. Luck about opening all gifts, about mystic forge, mystery boxes, etc…
There should have been maybe one harder achievement, or reward, for example if you kept getting 600 in the bell choir.
But i did appreciate a lot the event however
Well yes, i think players attitude has some part there also.
I see many guilds playing free tournaments and acting like " it’s too easy, no challenge , etc.. " yet they’re still running builds that give no chance to opponents ( typically 2 guardians 1 mesmer 1 ele). Why isn’t there any risk taken ?
I also noticed noone ever talks/answers on all chat. I’ve seen players asking for advice never getting answered or, in some cases, being called " noobs " and told to " L2P". Last example was from yesterday where i was told " QQ QQ QQ, it makes you look terrible " for asking how i lost all health from a 900 damage hit.
These facts make also what Rezz said true. I don’t have a lot of fun facing guild teams and i noticed my team mates neither, and it’s like all are afk/dced after a few minutes..
I’m not entirely sure about the system. I’m going to talk about free tournaments, but i have a countless number of matchs where my party is 4/5 ( from the beginning or during the match), whether we’re winning or not.
Usually the player isn’t reconnecting so, having to play 2 more rounds with less players isn’t really passionating. I believe the actual system is good because you can do an other tournament directly if you lose.
However, i do agree with rewards.
Like i said in an other thread, the problem is the capping system which requires only 1 person to hold the shrine.
I did play Hero Battles at a very high level in Guild Wars 1 ( but the system was same in some of Heroes Ascent maps) and you generally had to watch map, see where the player was going/sending his heroes to anticipate and keep the shrine, etc…
If a player decided to gank some point then you either decided to not care ( overall you have other shrines) or to go yourself there with all your party, etc…
Here, it’s mostly about just standing on a point with a very defensive build that’s all. Sure you could do the same on GW1, but you at least could recap shrines 2v1 and there were 4 shrines for 4 players ( 3 being heroes, not players), so it wasn’t so easy to do so ..
Here, you can’t even try some tactics ( push a point 5v2, go ninja on an other point, etc…) If it’s working on some matchs, it’s generally not against experienced players or guilds..
The problem with thieves in my opinion is that you can’t predict damages.. Sometimes you feel like you should be receiving less than 3000 ( because of bonus or anything.) and you just die in 1 or 2 hits..
Generally, heartseeker can be dealing 5000, 8000, 600,etc… without really knowing and that’s probably the reason of your problem
However, that’s not " OP " in my opinion. Boring to face yes( especially in sPvP), but so are guardians and mesmers in tPvP..
The problem isn’t about being beaten by guilds using vocal communication constantly, but mostly about the common build and team composition which gives usually no chance to opponents..
Every match is basically the same : the guardian goes on the keep, the mesmer portals on mine/henge and there’s an ele who keeps wasting your time on henge/mine. The problem is clearly the capping system which doesn’t let you cap the shrine if you’re 2v1.
In Guild Wars 1 you could cap recap a shrine if you had more players than the opponent had on it, and i didn’t feel it was really bad…
The combinaison of that and the small number of shrines ( 3) is in my opinion the real problem of why random parties usually lose so easily to guild teams..
I give it a 7/10
Positives :
- Easy joining, whether it’s random or tournament
- Down system is interesting
- Easy rank accessible to everyone
Negative :
- Capping system ( 1 man hold) which makes some classes boring to face ( guardians, mesmer portals, etC..)
- Rank system which isn’t really good if you only play tournaments
