Because people in general are pretty unreasonable. Gamers especially. There have been a few times Anet let us in on their plans and design choices, and when those changed people threw an absolute fit. I mean, over some really really silly things I have seen some tantrums that a starving, constipated, sleep deprived toddler would be hard-pressed to top. Coming from grown men!

If they just don’t tell us anything until it’s about ready to launch, then if it gets delayed or gods-forbid changes for any reason, there won’t be a huge ruckus over it.

Keep this in mind:
We have been told multiple times they plan to keep content coming to keep things fresh; now only three months since launch we had the Halloween event that added new permanent mini-dungeons, dynamic events, and little surprises, we are getting the Lost Shores free content patch, and in December we get the Wintersday events.

There will always be changes and new content in the pipe-line. If you get bored give the game a break so you don’t burn yourself out, and come back now and then to see what changed and do all the new stuff.

I still don’t see where people are making a connection to elves. The only elf thing I see at all in them is the pointy ears. Lots of creatures in fantasy and scifi have had point ears.

Drow?

Physically:
There’s no indication they see infrared, Drow have black skin and not blue, Drow have white hair and the Largos seem to be able to have a variety of colors, the Largos have a scaly texture to their skin and Drow do not. Finally, the Largos have giant freaking wings and the Drow do not. There are a few more, but do we really need to go further?

Socially:
There’s no indication the largos are a matriarchy. The Largos seem honorable and have respect for all of their houses, the Drow don’t. Largos go out and hunt the most terrifying things they can for fun, Drow do not. Largos are bound by oath and have no gods. The Drow don’t give a kitten about oaths and worship a spider.

I think one person made some sort of vague connection and a handful of others said “…yeah, ok, I can see that.” and jumped on board without actually thinking about it.

Good point about the Kodan all looking the same. They could easily get a Charr style make over and have different patterns, facial feature proportions and accessories. But that would be sort of out of left field since we have had at least three major sanctuaries around and they all looked the same.

The Tengu drive me nuts. They are hideous. I just can’t get their appeal at all. IMO their design in GW was much better. In the last 250 years were the original tengu invaded and their genes totally diluted with the physical traits of the chicken people from the realm of nightmare fuel?

Largos I think would be the most enjoyable race to add. No too big problems, no too small problems, not some grotesque looking chicken mutant that even Charr would think twice about putting in their mouths.

oh heck no. They’re generic “fantasy-RPG” garbage, and I don’t know why they were added in the first place. I want unqiue races that are created for the GW universe, not something that looks like its the culmination of every elf race every made.

This is funny because it’s still a game where you put on armor or robes and swing giant swords or shoot fireballs at dragons. We already have the biggest cliches in the history of fantasy story telling.

Also, asura fit the gnome archtype, Norn fit the orc/half-orc archtype and Sylvari cover the elves. Tiny inventors. Massive shallow thinking brutes. Wise tree hugging magic-y people.

The thing what makes them “GW” is the culture, history and attitudes of the races. Those things really prevent them from just being the usual tropes in disguise. This is something that seems to have resonated well, since lots of players in GW really dig the races for their backgrounds and unique attitudes rather than racial perks. There is more “race pride” than I typically see in games.

So why do the Largos give off an elfin vibe? Because the Largos are lithe, and well spoken? So are the Tengu. In general I can’t think of any elves ever wearing iron masks, having scaly textures to their skin, phosphorescent extra appendages, or Eastern European accents. And since we know virtually nothing about their culture…I can’t see where you are drawing any sort of parallel. Especially considering how neatly the Sylvari already fill that role.

The more new races the better IMO, so long as they are introduced with the same care, detail and depth as the originals. Largos would actually be preferred for me. I don’t really dig the way the Tengu have changed in the last two centuries. And I did wanted to see the Kodan as playable until I tried some of the more complicated jumping puzzles and played in some of the more tightly corridor-ed dungeons as a Norn.

All things considered though, what does a new race add? A capitol city that will likely be abandoned for Lion’s Arch. A short personal story branch that just converges into the same as every other races story around the time of the “Orders” arc. A few flavor racial skills that are intentionally less effective than profession skills. Around the mid levels, from a mechanical and storytelling perspective, your race ceases to matter.

New professions are the things I get really excited about, since those add skills, weapons, profession utilities and traits. A new profession is like a new 200 hours of playtime added to the game for me. A new race is about 20.

The Largos race sounds cool. A “Largos Neophyte” profession for the existing races sounds much cooler.

Dungeons. 26s per path + vendor trash + 3 chests + chance for golds/high lvl greens to sell on TP. Dungeon tokens are a bonus.

A decent run will make you around 50s. Bad runs still net between 35-40s which isn’t bad for 40 minutes to an hour of your time.

There is the potential to make more by farming Orr. But I personally prefer the diversity and player company of doing dungeons over doing the same events over and over again for hours, largely by myself.

AcidicVision.5498

Maybe if Haste gets an overhaul then we can have pistol whip back. Nerfing an entire weapon set for PvP and PvE, when we have so few to choose from, instead of a generic utility skill is very disheartening for fans of the profession.

I ran venom > steal > haste > PW for a while in PvP before I knew it had become a big thing. Even then I knew the problem wasn’t with the weapon sets damage potential. It was traited steal being able to apply venom combined with haste.

The thing to consider is that players will abuse this utility as long as it’s there. They will find ways to abuse it. Nerf pistol whip? Ok, find a way to do it with backstab. Nerf that? Ok let’s find a way to do it with unload.

If we keep up with this pattern, eventually all of the thief’s damage options are going to be neutered before it’s finally concluded that haste needs to be changed. And then I bet a shiny nickle haste sees it’s nerf but none of the previous changes are reverted.

Stop balancing everything for haste and balance haste itself. I feel really bad for the thieves that don’t even use that utility because they base traits and skills on endurance.

Thieves need to speak up - stop the uncalled for nerfs!

in Thief

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

Pistol Whip, Devourer Venom, and next backstab? We have the lowest health next to guardians, the fewest choices in weapon skills, the most limited class utility (most vets, champs, bosses are immune to effects of half the stolen stuff). And half of our traits, weapon skill and utility skill slots are dedicated to just being able to get in to do damage and live to get back out.

Now we are also dealing with our burst damage, which is the hallmark of the thief/assassin/rogue archtype, taking a hit?

From a numbers and efficiency perspective, assuming more dmg nerfs come down the pipes, why play a thief as opposed to a warrior? Warriors are just as mobile, have higher damage, can provide more support for the party, and quickness + 100 blades is more devastating than quickness + pistol whip ever was. The only think you lose is stealth and the teleport skills, but why would you even need them when you can get double the AC and three times the health pool?

Stealth and its limitations are the mechanic that you use to balance being physically fragile with very high damage potential. Without that potential there is no reason to be fragile, which means there is no reason for stealth, which pretty much eliminates the need for a thief to exist.

I remember in the days leading up to the Mad King reveal the forum was full of people raging and calling favoritism and threatening to quit playing if they couldn’t access the stuff the people that attended could access. Players were calling players names, players were calling Anet names. Life isn’t fair, Money grubbers, entitlement…it was a blood bath. Even Australia and Canada got involved, and they never really get involved in anything.

It was Nerd-rage-ageddon.

You know what happened? A 15 second, non-interactive, in-engine cut scene that sort of bugged out for a lot of people.

In the wake of that event forum warriors picked themselves up, dusted themselves off, spit out some loose teeth, and realized that most of them looked like total morons after the fits they threw over it. And then…the conflict was forgotten. The rational and reasonable side not allowed to post “I told you so. …idiots.” because it was against the forum rules, and all of the opposed sort of skulked away silently not wanting to bring attention again to their wild accusations and speculation.

Let us learn from our history. Because you’re all doing it again. >.<

Guild leader member broadcast

AcidicVision.5498

It would be nice to be able to post announcements to all guild members regardless of their representation. This would encourage a lot more guild activity, since when representing one group, you miss out on everything the other group is doing.

Yes you can PST, but my guild tried this and the problem has been such: someone wants to do a dungeon, so they ask guild and then PM those not representing that do not look busy. 20 minutes later another member wants to do a different dungeon and asks the guild then PMs those that do not look busy. That is a hassle, and inconvenient. Players are more inclined to remember the five PMs they get while trying to craft than the one that includes them in a dungeon they needed.

Limit such a feature to guild leaders only, so it couldn’t be spammed or abused by guilds that might set it as a default permission. You only ever see messages from guild leaders of guilds you are in.

The way I see it is a yellow message in the chat window, something along the lines of server reset announcements or event text (maybe teal. Im fond of teal.) that would say, for example, “Kismet of [Merc] Announcement: Guild dungeon runs in one hour, PM or represent to grab a spot.” or “Kismet of [Merc] Announcement: Call to arms, we just claimed Stonemist. Assist in fortification and defense if you can.”

Quick, easy, less intrusive and distracting than PMs, simpler than alliance chat channels, encourages more guild activity and participation among multi-guild members.

New players can't join friends server?

AcidicVision.5498

It’s “full” because the server has reached it’s peaked limit of concurrent users… you probably keep wanting to play during a primetime of that server (based on time zone). Keep trying.

Is noon ET prime time for Dragonbrand in the US? Aren’t most people at school or work?

Is the only option between 2-6am ET?

Yep. My friends that transferred had to wait till between 3-5am to get on. DB seems to have a really large east coast population. So he can wait, or he can give you his info since you are on late anyways and see if you can get him logged on.

Another solution is to just roll and character, pick a server, and ninja transfer directly after an update when everyone is downloading and rebooting. With the event coming im sure there will be lots of chances.

Or you could transfer, or he could transfer, or you could tough it out and just play dungeons together and chat (since that works cross server) until guesting gets going.

There are plenty of options. More options than most other MMOs where if your friends were on a different full server then you were just totally kitten out of luck.

13 Full, 11 High US Servers @ 8:41 am PST (Wed)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AcidicVision.5498

The population rating is based on players currently online. Anet made a comment after the 2nd or 3rd BWE that they could easily change the server capacities on the fly.

Consider the scenario:
servers are designed for about 7k players. Unexpected launch flood made them increase that cap to 10k, so now servers are at higher capacity than designed. Now things have settled down, other big name games have come out, people have gotten burnt out and are taking a break…so they lower the cap again to 7k. But servers that were full still have 10k+ people with characters there that will be coming back on and off and the server could see a surge for holidays and expansions. So instead of putting those servers with high populations and huge potential populations back at the default…they set it a 4-5k to keep it listed as perpetually full in order to funnel new players and encourage transfers to lower population servers. When populations balance themselves out with one another, and players cant willy nilly transfer…they are all put back down to the default 7k for new players and paid transfers.

…that’s what I think is going on. /put on tinfoil hat

Legitimate Concerns for a new Thief player (PVE)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

Thieves already got nerfed. Pistol Whip had its balls removed, and our only underwater elite is no better than any normal immobilize utility or weapon skill.

Even those changes considered though, thieves are still pretty great in PvE. Safe entry, high burst, safe exit and then shortbow dps while init recharges to do it again. Scorpion wire, Shadow Refuge and Smoke screen are among the most all around useful dungeon utility skills in the game, especially when you are rolling with a competent warrior or ele that knows how to take advantage of your combo fields and vice versa.

People that are biased against thieves in dungeons just have no idea what they are talking about. Mesmers and Rangers more commonly get the shorter end of the dungeon stick I think.

I just can’t get over that you think skirt = stripper. Most of the skirts (after the starter set) are longer and/or have tights/leggings that go along with them. You seem pretty uptight…it’s not real…so just stop tilting the camera up the skirt to actually “see” what’s up there?

That’s where I was getting at. There is a pretty harsh attitude towards knee length skirts, so I didn’t think skin tight leather or hide pants with large cut-outs and mesh or lacing holding them together would make the OP feel the character was any more respectable. Finding the one pair that meets all modesty requirements and transmuting that all the way to 80 just seems…dull. Especially in a game where every driving goal it centered around aesthetics.

Obvious solution just seemed to be to play a male character. Then you can get all the pants and your character isn’t stuck for life in a giant quilt skirt and super thick panty hose. Could always buy a gem-store sex change later when an expansion introduces the women’s line of trousers.

semi-related question but do signets stack with skills? the necro has a 10% passive speed signet and a 33% boost spectral walk. how do these two stack off one another?

“A character’s movement speed can be increased or decreased via several methods. Speed is measured in units per second (u/s). Both speed buffs and debuffs do not stack, the effect with the greatest value will be used. Having Swiftness and Signet of Air active will make you move 33% faster, not 43% faster. The movement reduction while in combat will stack with movement speed debuffs.”

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

Speed bonuses do not stack. But the highest value gets used. A thief with Signet of Shadows is moving 25% faster, if they get swiftness for 33% speed boost then the swiftness overrides the signet and you move 33% faster, not 56%. But 33% is not the cap. A rune of speed increases movement speed when using swiftness by 7% I think, which would make the cap, if there is one, higher than 33.

I don’t think rune of the traveler (+5% movement speed) stacks with any signet or trait movement speed increase because of the aforementioned non stacking.

Should i roll a guardian or keep with my thief?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

No. I decided to level up a Guardian to play with my brother who was leveling a warrior. It was a miserable experience coming from a playing a thief.

First of all Guardians are slooooooow. You can eventually get retreat for a decent swiftness boost, but the recharge is twice as long as the buff. The switness symbol from staff is just bad. You will feel like you are playing the game in slow motion.

IMO, none of the offhands really stand out. And as much as you may want to, it’s really hard to justify a weapon besides greatsword. If you can find a viable build and setup for another weapon set people will think you don’t know what you’re doing.

You are would essentially be trading a thief’s utility and active combat style for a clumsy, slow character that’s experience includes 80 levels of: swing gs, swing gs, set bad guy on fire, swing gs.

If that’s how you want to get down, then I guess go for it. Some people might find that fun. But I found myself beating my head on desk in boredom wishing the character didn’t take forever to do anything and had more engaging combat options. Thank god for 30 levels from crafting.

Where are all the people...? (Server Transfer)

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

I have played for at least an hour every day since launch. I have two 80s all geared out and either do guild dungeon runs or help lowbies. I play for fun. That in mind, these are things I have heard from friends and guild-mates, that actually like the game, that keep them from putting it higher priority on their gaming/free-time list…

-titles are few and far between and are barely noticeable. There is no real recognition behind them (GW would announce when players achieved a top tier).

-Exotic armor and weapons are unimportant and go unnoticed in the zerg and particle-splosions, so they don’t offer the same recognition exotic stuff in GW did.

-All but a few dungeon paths can be done with a pug in under an hour, so communication and team-work isn’t encouraged.

-All content is 5-man so larger more coordinated guild activities are hindered. Even squads in WvW don’t let you see how many are in it, where they are, who they are.

- WvW has no real stat tracking/progression/personal ranking, but its expensive to upgrade keeps, expensive to repair, expensive to buy siege equipment. Why play a mode that slowly bleeds your bank until you can no longer be effective, and have nothing to show for it?

Yes, they all understand that character progression is based on vanity. But the only time that matters is when idling in a town. Who wants to sit in game not playing in order to show off how they have progressed ?

Anyways, in my experience, almost everyone that has played still likes it, and means to put more time in to playing. But when there is a toss-up between GW2 and the other games in the fall line-up, or real-life activities…GW2 loses the “why should I do this, what progress will I make” contest.

Hopefully there are some changes coming, so when those folks get around to checking on Tyria there is more of a sense of character growth and they find more reasons to stick around a while.

Where are all the people...? (Server Transfer)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

Dragonbrand is pretty healthy. Some zones are barren, but I don’t think that is from lack of players as much as those areas just aren’t important to story, dungeons or leveling.

Because of server transfers your server population is directly proportional to how well you have done in WvW. So once you start doing bad, it’s a lot harder to get back up.

You worry about lack of players, while people on the higher bracket servers are complaining about two hour queue times, overflows, and lag/popping players because of too many people in a zone.

Anet really shot themselves in the foot and hurt a lot of servers in the long run with free transfers after the first week or two of launch. I doubt it will start to even itself out until after the holidays or a new expansion. Something to get an influx of new players in that start on lower pop servers. Maybe some of the people that come back for this content patch will transfer to avoid the huge crowds, but I doubt it will be enough to make an immediate noticeable difference.

The absence of fee and gear grind mean people do not feel obligated to play in order to keep up or get their monies worth.

Activity in my guild dropped the week Borderlands 2 came out. And then it came back up slowly as people got their fill of that game. Then a few players dropped when Dishonored and Xcom launched, now those players have beaten the games and are coming back or jumping back and forth.

I expect activity drop off again for Halo 4 and Black-Ops 2. That’s just the nature of a game like this. And it was designed that way intentionally. Aesthetic progression means my friends in exotics now can take a break for life or to play other things they enjoy, come back when they feel like it, and still be able to do all the stuff the rest of the guild is doing. They just might not be in the current style.

This isn’t the type of MMO a lot of people are used to. Population is going to be up and down constantly. It was the same thing in GW. For whatever their reasons people will take a break, come back out of curiosity /boredom/to check in with people they used to play with or the game, see all the new stuff to do, play until they burn out on it again, repeat ad-nauseam.

The new additions to the community catch on to that trend eventually. Or just be perpetually confused.

Dungeon Leader leaves... All get kicked...

Might not be the popular answer, but this is exactly what guilds are for. And you can be in multiple guilds at that. Half the time pugs will be clueless, rude, have their own way of doing things, rage quit, or try to grief the party for fun. And often they cant or wont get on voice comm, so they slow down a familiar run anyways.

If you don’t have enough people in your guild, then join one that focuses on dungeons that you can pull people from.

If you decide to roll the dice and play a co-operative instance that requires a minimum hour of your time with complete strangers…well you should expect a 50/50 shot of a person being more of a liability than an asset.

Why instances belong to the leader, I’m not sure. But that’s not how GW worked so there must be some kind of design decision behind the change. I couldn’t say for certain whether it was an entirely poor decision or not without knowing why they decided for one approach over another.

Besides the occasional accident like in the OP, it really isn’t much of an issue if you play with people you are familiar or acquainted with enough that you can all show a little human decency.

Edit: or at the very least communicate so the stranger or the guy with the walmart internet connection isn’t the one that starts the instance. “[name] is going to start the instance” is something the group leader should be determining ahead of time.

My advice is human or Sylvari. Norn, Asura and Charr or cool, but their sizes can make some things awkward. IMO those races are better for an alt after you are used to the game.

Guardian and Warrior are safe bets for survivability, but can get kind of repetitious. They are your usual heavy melee classes for the most part. Elementalists can be overwhelming for new people.

The thief is a lot of fun but sort of fragile. IMO (again) it’s the most satisfying class because of how active it is, the damage it can do and the dancing/CC games you play to constantly avoid damage. If you want something completely different from the standard archtypes…Mesmers are in a league of their own.

As far as I have been able to tell the bleed cap is 25 stacks and additional stacks go to waste, so to speak. This is from playing a thief with a warrior. Iv’e seen 25 stacks on a mob and done attacks that cause bleeding and not seen the condition damage pop.

But multiple people causing bleed might not be a problem. Thieves in particular cause bleed AOE. So they are probably putting stacks on enemies the warrior hasn’t. Also on vets or bosses, conditions can get removed rapidly and one persons bleed skills might be on cool down, so if you have another player causing bleed it means a better chance maintaining that 25 for the entire fight.

You didn’t read my first post. I was ALWAYS inviting players to join me, or ask if they needed help. I was always trying to organize events and get things rolling. I was always talkitive and ALWAYS doing my best (when I saw someone new log in) to say HI when they log in.

My attitude on the forums does not represent who I am in game. IF I say: “Does anyone need help?” And noone replies, and then leave because ‘noone would help them’ is that really my failing??

You can see the roster. If you see someone has been on Forging the Pact for the last hour, do you PM them to see if they are having trouble? If you notice someones craft has been sitting at about 200 for a week or longer do you pm or mail them to see if they hit a snag and need a hand?

Lots of people miss guild chat. You cant just say “Hey lets do this…” and expect 20 people to answer. And a lot of people are hesitant to ask for help. A great many guild SM dungeons, missions, and zone clears have come about from me noticing something on the roster and sending a PM to see how a person is doing.

The game gives you the tools to see how members are doing on an individual level. If you aren’t using them, and just posting a message in /g every half hour or so, then that could be a problem.

Edit button was gone…

On not repping members and influence. Our guild does not WvW a lot. I have three guys that WvW with their friends in another guild. I don’t really care that they earn influence for another guild that will be used towards warfare bonuses. It benefits them, their little WvW group and the activity they have fun with.

Those same three guys do up to 9 dungeons runs a night on the regular with me and other members, while repping us. That’s a nice big chunk of influence that I wouldn’t be getting without them. You know what they would do if I forced them to always rep? They would quit. Because players aren’t pokemon. And I would lose that influence to having to pick up pugs or ask other members to do dungeons they don’t have much fun in.

The selfishness, not knowing your players, and your draconian rules are costing you more influence than I think you were earning.

But ultimately, it comes down to that if you don’t represent MY guild, you are not earning MY guild any influence. I don’t benefit you, you don’t benefit me, WHY bother taking up a spot in my guild? As a guild leader, I don’t know who you are, you don’t know who I am, and serves to further the gap between us, especially since, you cannot see chat with my guild so you can’t get to know us, or know when things are going on.

Seems to me your guild might be suffering more from your attitude than from the multi-guild system.

Look at it more this way, being able to join multiple guilds means the guild leaders are more accountable for the satisfaction of their members. As i said before, if you are having trouble keeping members representing or they are joining a second guild and forgetting about you…then maybe you should look at why.

It might have something to do with the “My, My, My” attitude.

Ill reference my previous post again since you never responded…the guy that gives you kitten that doesn’t know you: did you know him? The progress of his alts? If he stalled and needed help on his crafts or story? What role did he fill in groups and did you ever ask him to join one?

See, that’s the thing that separates guilds and leaders that people want to represent from the ones they don’t: You can pm people to tell them they need to represent your guild, per your rules, but how often did you pm that same person for a dungeon run, or karma farming, or any other guild event? I would bet a shiny nickle…never.

A guild leader is accountable to the players. Not the other way around. If your members are leaving or not waving your banner, then its a failing on your part. Not the games.

My guild will never have more than 75 people. At any given time (other than 9-5 work/school hours) 1/3 of us might be on. More on weekends.

There are only a few that do not represent and they are guys that had fun with us in dungeons and wanted to join and be Pm’d whenever we do guild stuff. When we do, they represent so we all get influence.

Everyone knows everyone. Everyone plays with everyone. And everyone pretty much jumps to help out their guild-mates because they know there will be a time that they will need help also. This is what happens when you focus on starting with a small group and only recruit a few people at a time (max 3 per week), so new people and existing members can get familiar with each other before being washed over by 25 other new people.

You can’t call a mechanic a problem because it prevents you from being able to strong arm people in to playing with you and the your arbitrary list of names. If you create a more positive and cooperative social environment, then people will represent, chat and make friends within the guild. Do you know how to do that? By not mass recruiting strangers that no one in the guild has played with. Think about quality over quantity.

Right now most of the guilds that are 200+ members are little more than LFG tools. People join them to use for a pool of people they can quickly address to ask for stuff. And that’s not because of the multi-guild system. It’s because too many guild leaders care more about the size of that list than they do the names on it.

The fact some guilds even have a mandatory repping policy speaks volumes. If you have to have a rule to make people hang out within your guild, then maybe you should look at the atmosphere and attitude within the guild that makes people not want to.

Edit: To demonstrate my points…the guildie that the OP was appalled by for lashing at him when PM’d to rep… did the OP know his real first name, or his alts, or the role he can fill in PvE/PvP groups so the player can be addressed directly when that role is needed? Where were his characters in story and did he need help completing it? Was he stuck at a certain crafting level for a while, if so did the OP bother to ask him why and if he needed anything? I don’t think the OP knows any of that. Because he didn’t know the player. He didn’t even remember if he PM’d the player before. If you don’t know you players, why should they be expected to know you? Again…shift priority from number of members to quality of members and you improve the quality of the guild.

That’s weird. I’d be inclined to say there might be a problem with your video card, but I have only seen two or three of those go bad and they usually made a purple or purple screen, or nothing at all.

7 days Server Transfer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AcidicVision.5498

Im not trying to justify anything. Thing would be neat. But it’s broke. When its not broke they will add it.

Until that time, the entirety of WvW shouldn’t be going to kitten, and all the players and bots and RMTs that are exploiting free transfers shouldn’t be allowed to keep benefiting from detrimental behavior to the economy and server communities, just so you can hop around and role play with your buddies.

You actually come off as extremely selfish and short sighted. Some enjoyment will need to be sacrificed occasionally, and some systems we like may need to be modified to maintain the integrity of the game for the long term. The server transients can find a place to sit still for a week, it’s WvW’s turn to play with the ball; they have been waiting for a while.

7 days Server Transfer

AcidicVision.5498

Yeah, the thing about this is that (on American servers at least), all but about three of them are at near constant Full capacity. People are waiting until 4-5am to bounce around servers because thats about the only time its possible.

Its pretty safe to say that not too many people are waiting till the wee hours of the morning to transfer servers to start playing with their friends.

What are a lot of people doing? Transferring and grinding tier six mats on their server, then bouncing down to the low pop servers they can get in to and out of easily and doing the same there. Typically while farming the more rewarding mini dungeons and puzzles while they are at it.

I would bet good money that most of the posts here from people enraged they cant boucne around freely and play with their friends are really talking about their “friends” – Orichalcum and Ancient Wood.

@Godmoney,

Its possible. Very possible. Sell everything besides green and yellow items you can use personally. Check what yellows are selling for on the TP and if its a significant difference, post it there instead of merching.

Harvest as much as you can so you an craft. And as you level those up, sell whatever you make to the merchant .

When you come across a new zone, 100% it. The provides a nice silver bonus and the items have decent merch value. In Orr you get exotics for 100% areas and if those arent for your class then you can TP them for a gold or more each.

On my first char, since I wasn’t particularly paying attention to money wasted on TP and repair, I had about 16 gold by the time I dinged 80. My second character now is level 70 and is sitting on about 20 gold because I know how to save and earn a little better.

You shouldn’t be so rude.

Map Hack Frustration

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

AcidicVision.5498

This is one of few black marks I think. These hacks aren’t new. They were around and even being advertised on youtube since beta weekend events 2 and 3. Someone from Anet back then said they were well aware of it and would deal with it before launch.

Maybe they put in an extra hurdle or two, but the hacks are the same and using the same methods. It’s really a let down that the same fly and speed hacks that were popping up in the beta weekend are still being used and someone is still profiting off of negatively impacting an experience other people paid for. Bots and RMT might be overall more harmful to the game and community, but at least they don’t add the personal insult of killing your character like PvP hackers do.

Apparently they just hired a security team to combat bots and such. I wonder if these guys are working the hack angle also, and if they even have access to source code to make changes that block known hacks (clamp max speed, class/skill comparison, translation out of thresh-hold flags despite commands from the client). Or are they just given a tool the monitors memory and other running applications and told good luck?

The cultural armor set prices

AcidicVision.5498

I plan on buying a set. That’s currently the “goal” I have for my thief. The only piece I might skip on would be the mask since I prefer hoods and hide my head gear half of the time anyways.

I like the prices. It gives me something to work towards, and honestly there isn’t that much in the game to blow gold on. The commander titles at the moment are worthless, and legendaries are something that require a lot more than just gold that I will be making progress towards over time.

I have the appropriate crafts maxed to efficiently gear any alts I make, and I save enough mats to not need to buy any. So besides tomes, harvesting tools, identification kits, repairs and waypoints there is nothing I need gold for. And those require such an insignificant amount that they are barely a consideration.

Also, there is an achievement for 200 gold in the bank. I am going for that achievement and the second I get it, ill be dropping a large portion for T3 armor so my thief can be “finished”.

T3 is the equivalent of GW1s Obsidian, Vabbian, and Elite Kurzick/Luxon armor. The price is meant to be steep and require a commitment to getting. Those that don’t think it’s worth it need not apply.

@Orissa, the content teams is separate from the implementation team. Content guys pretty much use the tools, assets and scripting capabilities provided to generate new maps, dungeons and events.

Most of the bugs are generated on the back-end. Things introduced or modified on the back-end by the implementation and features team and as such need to be fixed by them. In all likelihood the content team might not even have access to the source for the engine and tools they are working with.

Point: Just because one team is cranking out and designing content doesnt mean the other team isnt making changes to the baseline that fix bugs and performance.

How much money did you spend on BL keys...

in Halloween Event

Posted by: AcidicVision.5498

AcidicVision.5498

Man, I don’t even wanna add it up to find out. I bought 20 keys, both costumes, the reaper mask, two packs of minis to get all 4, another bank tab to hold all the Halloween stuff, and converted the remaining to gold when it was up to 10g per 1k gems.

I was pretty upset with the state of the BLCs, but once you buy the keys, there is nothing else you can do with them, so you might as well use them right? Felt much better after the MKC patch which was exactly what I thought the BLCs were going to be. So in the end, I got exactly what I paid for.

I think I need to delete my CC info for my own good and just keep a gem card in my wallet for emergencies ^.^

@Jemmi, thats cute. Nothing is free. If you’re not the customer, then you’re the product. You have a pretty special definition of free-to-use if you can apply it to a service that mines information on you, your friends, and your family and profits on selling your personal business. There are currencies out there besides money.

Other than that, I don’t really see why you are opposed to limiting the availability to information. No one has said here that they are doing a bad thing. In fact, everyone is on the same page as to understanding why facebook is used. The only criticism given is why that news isnt also hosted here?

There are a plethora of reasons people might not use social networking sites. Having news and updates in more places only makes it more widely and immediately available. Which is only good. Not sure why people are getting so defensive on the facebook updating…
