I just got an email from noreply@guildwars2.com, and…well…refer to the attachment for details. It looks like the real thing, but the link I am “supposed” to click on leads to something that does not look legit.

Just wanted to make sure that this is, in fact, a phishing email and not the real thing. Correct me if I am wrong.

EDIT: Surprisingly, the bottom link leads to the correct address; it’s the top link that’s really…“phishy”. (Horrible pun, I know.)

Home Instance is the perfect place to expand and turn into some sort of large scale personal housing system, complete with not only movable and craftable furniture, but buildings and NPC’s.

This alone would increase the games replayability to a ridiculous level.

That’s kinda what it is supposed to be, but it was never fully implemented, hence my thread. :c

There are a lot of things they promised us that we didn’t get to see as of yet. I think they are trying way too hard to push events and extra content (such as Lost Shores or whatever it was called) instead of actually working on implementing features that should have been here since launch. :/

No most of what was promised to be in game at louch is there

These is so much stuff missing still, that the only reasonable conclusion is that the game was rushed to the market long before it was finished – and by “long before” i mean at least half a year, perhaps a year.

That is what a lot of people are saying. The game was rushed near the end, even though ANet keeps saying that the game will be ready when it’s done.

Well, the Wintersday celebrations are over, I guess. I mean, the event goes until the 3rd, but the hype is pretty much DEAD. So, it’s safe to assume that if they REALLY meant any of the stuff they promised us, they would be smart and get on it now that they don’t have to plan any new events or anything for a while.

why can’t they put all the crafting spaces and TP in HoM!????????????? I want to buy stuff of off TP for my crafting and not run across the whole city for it. Make HoM useful instead of a useless zone i visited months ago because there’s nothing to do in it.

No one cares about the HoM. The purpose it served in GW1 is not the same as in GW2. Anyone who hasn’t played GW1 doesn’t even know about the HoM. It has nothing to do with the home instance.

A-net has said manny time’s that mmo’s are a servuis and that much of this will be roled out with content.

Alot of this stuff is probably already in the works and has a deadline.

Not from what I’ve read on the forums, as well as from playing experience, but alright. :s

Didn’t ANet keep saying that home instances are going to change based on your actions, the choices you make in the story quests, and other stuff?

Did any of you actually notice your home instance changing AT ALL? :/ I’ve ever only seen maybe a few new NPCs here and there scattered around, mostly ones I can’t even interact with. Other than that, my home instances never really changed. No new major NPCs, no new buildings or statues or decorations – just same old, same old.

What are your thoughts about the Home Instances? :/ I personally am feeling letdown.

MB can mean either megabit or megabyte depending on the context.

Context is secondary to case. A capital ‘B’ means Byte, ie. MB = megabyte, while a lower-case ‘b’ means bit, so Mb = Megabit.

Also, you’ll often see “mb” to refer to ‘megabit’ which is incorrect though sadly all too common, where a lower-case ‘m’ technically means ‘milli’ or ‘one-thousandth’, the opposite of ‘mega’ or ‘million’.

The main thing here is the case of the ‘b’, lower=bit, upper=byte. The case of the ‘m’ is played rather fast and loose, though it matters little as no one uses ‘millibyte’ which of course doesn’t exist.

Confusing, yes. Just watch the ‘b’.

I don’t know how slow your Internet is, but it took me only an hour and a half, maybe two, to download the game for the first time back in Beta, and ever since, updates have been downloading very quickly for me. Then again, my average download speed is 1.9MB/s.

create one server for low-level areas. they already have the technology to do this (see: overflow server) so no reason not to implement this

Well, that’d be a bit absurd. Maybe make dynamic events that Lv. 80 characters can benefit from, and put them in low-level areas, so when they are done, they might be inclined to help low-level characters until the next DE.

Why? It can’t be a 100% drop rate or I can’t farm lesser items but it could be a 1/3 chance of a T5/T6 claw instead of a T1 claw.

Lets take the farm next to the champion cave troll in Queensdale. Why would a L80 be there? If champions had a very good chance of dropping a rare/exotic of appropriate level they would loiter through the area hoping to catch him. If the harpies and bandits next door attacking the cattle had a 1in3 chance of dropping T5/T6 mats they’d stay and farm the wave events a bit while moving through to see if the champ was up. Etc etc etc.

As it is at the moment, 0.0000000000000001% chance of reward = time better spent elsewhere.

Sure, why not. As long as people spend more time in open-world maps instead of spamming LFG, I am good.

Nope not just your server. People here still can’t handle the fact that population in general has decreased significantly since launch. Yes some servers will be very active and some are dead. Just like all the other mmo’s including WoW. GW2 is no different but also has a lot less servers.

Telling people to transfer is a ridiculous solution. Why should people have keep doing this?

Made a new toon on another server to see and this was at 6pm prime time on a Wed. Starter zone saw maybe 4-5 people. Yep the servers sure are packed.

Exactly. And many people from the three guilds I am in (all of whom are on different servers) all tell me the same thing: They see people either farming Orr (or similar locations) or just spamming LFG to do dungeons together. Barely anyone is seen in open world maps anymore.

The silly thing was recently ANET nerfed low level DE rewards for level 80s, just discouraging anyone from visiting lower levels that much more.

It wasn’t as though going to queensdale as a lev 80 was particularly effective to get your whole 1s 20c and a few hundred karma for completing a low level event. Nonetheless they nerfed it pretty heavily. I used to like hanging out in low level zones for the chatter, and making a LITTLE money on the side. Believe me it wasn’t anything good. Now I haven’t been back since.

Yeah. This is one of the things that irked me. When GW2 first came out, completing areas gave me a LOT of stuff. Now, I get 3 transmutation stones and a little bit of exp, and that’s it. :l A huge letdown.

which newbie area are you talking about? I am on shiverpeaks and the human starting area (divinities reach) always has people in it all over the place. granted during the week I am only on during the prime playing times but on weekends it’s steady populated as well… even now that I have leveled my main toons out of that area I still farm mats for low level crafting in the area and always see people in the events and gathering for when boss mobs show up….

I am doing completion of Essex Hills right now, as well as the Sylvari lands. Barely anyone around. :x

Its gotta be your time zone or your server man.
Might just have more higher levels and less alts.

I am on 10am to 10pm -5EST. o-O; That’s three hours ahead of the game’s time (PST). I highly doubt it.

It’s you. My intention was to actually suggest Tarnished Coast as the low level zones are full of people! Either you’re playing at a ridiculous time, or have an inflated idea of what “full” is. Tarnished Coast is probably the fullest server on the US side, and has a massive PvE population. On a Sunday night I can’t go two feet without running into other players.

Well, I am on Tarnished Coast, but the low level ones don’t seem full of people. Again, I am not talking about population – I am talking about concentration of people in the low-level maps.

I agree, it can be difficult. I’ve been leveling a warrior alt and at low levels it was difficult to handle an entire DE by myself. Only now, at level 60, am I starting to come across another player or two while doing a DE. My advice would be to push through a 1-15 zone. Then go ahead and start another 1-15 zone and you should be able to handle the DEs by yourself, with the slight edge in your level vs mob level. Leveling is a little slower, but it’s a more rewarding solo experience. Plus it’s always fun to solo a 3 or 4 part DE and change the world all by yourself.

My ele is Lv. 16, actually, but I am finding it very difficult to push through. Even when running D/D, he is very squishy, so doing things alone takes a lot of time (for me, anyway). ; – ; I may have to switch servers again.

Yes, there definitely needs to be more reason for players to circulate throughout the world and explore more. What’s the point of having an open world game, if 90% of the population just farms instances? Something needs to happen, not immediately, but we need to start being able to see changes that draw players back out into the world of Tyria.

Do we need a zerg on every map? By all means no, in fact that would put us in a similar situation on the opposite end of the spectrum from where we are now.

Rethink what you want and how you gauge “population”. What I see says you are way off base.

What I want is to see more people in maps, especially low-level ones, instead of just seeing the majority sitting outside dungeons and spamming LFG. I think I made that quite clear.

I’ve hopped between a few worlds, and no matter what, low-level areas are almost always empty. It’s especially hard to level my elementalist up all on my own. It already levels up slowly as a caster (and a squishy one at that), but with no one to do Dynamic Events with, or help me with tasks, or whatever, it’s becoming ridiculous.

It’s not just during the Wintersday event. Even outside of it, most people just sit outside dungeon entrances, spamming “LFG” for the next few hours, or just farming Orr for karma. :/

Is this what GW2 has become? The very opposite of what it was supposed to be? “Oh, this game will be very social, with lots of dynamic events and many people working together without having to form parties!” Bullcrap. It’s all about LFG and Orr. :/

And with the Wintersday event, this has become even worse. I’ve even tried playing on an RP server, but it has turned out to be even emptier than most other servers. Granted, I do see some groups here and there, but they are just roleplaying together (all the same guild, too) instead of actually doing stuff.

What are your thoughts about this?

I need an Elementalist Build for PvE

I’m not sure how far along you are with your character, so I’m going to assume that you are starting out. I see that you think that you do barely any damage. The weapons you use have a big effect. Go with a S/D or D/D build, if you don’t already. S/D is probably more balanced. If you know this already, please ignore my prattling on.

Then delving into traits and Slot Skills (which is a whole can of worms) is a bit more tricky. I have found that sometimes what other people post doesn’t work for me. I’m certain that this is because of my play style (how fast I can move my fingers, how bad my repetitive stress injury from playing GW2 is).

The type of foe you are facing also has an effect. If you are fighting something faster than you, what they are resistant to, what boons they have and their number, etc. all affect what you should equip and what skills you should use. Traits can even be rejigged depending on who the big bad is.

There are numerous builds posted in these forums that you might find useful. Try a few and tweak them to suit your style.

Alright, I’ll look around, though I am not sure how I feel about dual daggers, because I want to be able to keep my distance.

That’s what I use on my staff ele, Gear is pow > tough/vit, with 5 fire runes and one 25 power rune (balthazar is fine). Staff uses a superior sigil of battle, and just remember to shift elements often.

actually you can stand and tank quite a bit if you gear it right. It stacks power for damage, but if you notice it has no crit. The rest of the stats are dumped into tough/vit. Try it, you won’t regret it.

Hey, all. I am used to Elementalists from GW1. Ever since trying GW2’s Elementalists, I’ve been having issues. I keep dying all the time and I barely do any damage.

Elementalist PvE Builds?

Hey, all. I am used to elementalists from GW1. Ever since trying GW2’s elementalists, I’ve been having issues. I keep dying all the time and I barely do any damage.

I am looking for a good build for PvE that will help me deal a lot of damage but also survive easily. I’ve heard of “Lightning Hammer”, whatever that is, but I want to see what you people think. (And no, I don’t PvP or WvW, so I don’t care about those; PvE only)

I have a love-love with melee, ranged, pure spell caster et al, so for me it’s collect them all. But, I have to agree with you on the Asuran T3 cultural light armor. My Mesmer with her T3 cultural armor and greatsword is easily the best looking level 80 I have. My advice is to pick one and dive in, as it takes awhile to amass the gold and karma.

Asura T3 cultural light armour is my favourite armour in the entire game. For me, nothing beats it. I actually have a Lv. 51 Asura Elementalist, but I feel like the gameplay became a bit stale, and so I concentrated on a human engineer, who is Lv. 56 right now.

On a side note, I have an ele and mesmer at 80. While I love the “fire mage” archetype (great balls of fire!), I find I have more fun with the mesmer in terms actual playstyle. The abilities flow perfectly for someone who enjoys the kiting mechanic as I do. Grist for the mill.

I actually enjoyed the Mesmer more than I expected to, and perhaps (just maaaybe) more than its GW1 counterpart. It’s my guilty pleasure. n n;

Don’t be put off by the elementalists extra buttons. Before long it isn’t a big deal and feels completely normal.

Only downside is that the other 7 classes become complete snoozefests to play after you’re used to elementalist.

On a related note, I took three different quizzes. They all pointed out that my top three professions I should go for are: ELE, ENGINEER, and RANGER, with Thief, Mesmer, and Necro being close, too.

Not sure if this thread was done before, but regardless, let’s start a brand new one. A fresh start is always nice.

So, what is your favourite profession currently, and why?

For me, I’d say that I hover between Engineer, Elementalist, and Mesmer, though I’d emphasize more on the Engineer, because of the many turrets that he can deploy, as well as the use of medium armour (average stats) and great versatility to change between weapon kits and whatnot.

The difficulty of managing an elementalist removes the fun from it – for me, at least. It’s not that I don’t like a challenge – it’s that I don’t like it when things are more difficult than they need to be.

Why not go with your Engi, then? Both have the versatility to switch between different roles mid-fight, but the Engi doesn’t have all the Ele’s frantic button-mashing.

And the human T3 leather is one of the few good-looking medium sets in the game.

Well, T3 leather does look nice, but I seem to be attracted to T3 cloth human and T3 cloth asura….especially the Asura one. ____ -drools- Why does it have to be cloth…

I find it fun to be managing attunements and chaining my skills, rather than changing between 2 weapons; the more difficult, the more interesting, but that’s just me.

No no, I agree with you. It’s just that the lack of sidekicks (aside from the 2 golem skills with their long recharge rate) and the squishiness make it difficult to play, especially if you have no one to play with. :s

It’s not just you: it’s working as intended. The recent patch notes make explicit ANet’s vision for the classes, and what defines the Elementalist according to those notes is the class’s “exceptional skill ceiling.”

I think one of the main problem I have with Eles, for example, is the fact that they have no sidekicks/guardians (Rangers have pets, mesmers have phantasms, engineers have turrets, necros have minions, etc.), as well as the fact that some skills from GW1 didn’t make it into GW2.

The main problem I have with mesmers is…uh…well, I don’t know, actually. o-o; But yeah.

Elementalists have 2 pet-summoning skills, one utility and one elite, pretty useful in PvE if you ask me. Ele’s also have a wide range of skills that should cover most of your needs.

If you don’t like a profession, don’t play it. There’s no reason to force yourself to like it.

I was referring to mesmer since you have no idea why you don’t love nor hate it. Also, elementalist is the squishiest combination possible with lowest health and cloth armor, if you play it like other MMO’s where you stand in front of mobs and take hits, you’ll find yourself dead most of the time. You need to take advantage of elementalist being one of the most agile profession, .

That’s another one of my issues. In GW1, it was just another caster. In GW2, it’s far too weak (physically-speaking). Granted, it has some of the best offensive skills I have seen in the game (and I have played every profession), with most of them (if not all) being AoE. >___<;

Well, I am trying to work on an Ele right now, but I am finding it very difficult. o-o; Far more difficult than my engineer. As for mesmer, I may remake one later. I’ve always been an ele-type char. in any game that had such, so I am trying to work on it now.
