Stupid question, but should I redownload the 64-bit client now that it’s no longer in Beta? Or was it automatically updated to reflect that? Also, should I bother with the 32-bit client or is it no longer needed (since I have a 64-bit system)? Thanks in advance.

Who is this “we”? Don’t speak for the rest of us.

I personally don’t care much for the Tengu. They’re nice, I guess, but I wouldn’t want to play as them. If anything, I’d prefer QUAGGANS or something of that sort.

I was gonna say KODANS, but the Norn are already close enough to that.

GW2 is giving me good framerate when my settings are set to medium, but otherwise, it’s giving me like 40fps. Not sure why. Brand new PC with the following specs:

AMD FX-8350 4GHz 8-core
MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB
8GB RAM DDR3-1600
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ mobo
Samsung 850 EVO SSD

EDIT: I get perfect performance in other games, like The Witcher 3, so I doubt it’s a PCI-E slot issue.

Favourite/Least-Favourite class? HoT Edition

I know this kind of thread gets overdone at times, but I thought I’d bring it again to see people’s favourite and least favourite classes following all the latest updates, as well as HoT changes.

At the moment, this is my consensus:

Favourite: Ranger
Least Favourite: Engineer, Guardian
Currently testing: Necromancer

My ranger runs a Survival/Bleeding build with Axe/Torch and so far, I almost never die. Granted, I don’t do as much damage as other classes, but hey, I am enjoying it, even though the pet AI is still fairly dumb at times.

I miss Cantha too much...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I hated the main city in Cantha. It was a giant labyrinth, and very grey and ominous. It felt like Detroit. Just completely devoid of life and colour. It’s once you leave the city area and go towards the nature-parts of Cantha that the game started being fun for me.

I also loved playing the Ritualist. It is literally by far my favourite class across the entire Guild Wars franchise (GW2 included), as well as arguably one of my favourite classes of all time. The tribal armours, the movements and animations during skills, the actual gameplay (spirit builds specifically). I enjoyed that a lot. The closest GW2 equivalent would be spirit-build Ranger, I guess.

TL;DR Cantha was pretty only out of the city, and the thing I miss most is the Ritualist.

Hi there, folks! How are you all doing? I am going to try my luck here, so here goes:

I would love to be able to get Heart of Thorns. I know it’s probably a harsh request ($49.99 USD), and I don’t expect it to be fulfilled, but it’s really the only thing I actually want. Everything else I need I can get myself.

I technically do have the funds, but I am going to use that money to build a PC (since my current laptop is old and I need something new). Well, that and the fact that the CAD is extremely low right now. I just recently graduated university.

Feel free to message me about it, or even let me know if there’s a way to get a discount for it. Anything helps.

Thank you in advance!

Change install directory?

Running the launcher will download the necessary files to the folder it’s currently in. It will be playable, however it will not be “installed” in the traditional sense, as in shortcuts and listed under programs in the control panel.

If running Gw2Setup.exe, it will ask you where to install, though it bugs on some systems any may either do nothing or begin downloading to your %temp% folder. You can simply rename it to Gw2.exe and place it wherever you want to just have it download to its current folder.

If you’ve already installed it somewhere, you can simply move the folder and manually update any shortcuts.

Well, I used the 64-bit launcher, so it seems that, like you said, the game installed to the same directory as the launcher. But you also mentioned that it doesn’t really “install”, but rather just “extract”. Does that mean it does not modify/add registry keys?

Decreased Performance?

Set the laptop to high performance profile if it’s not already?

You mean in the Nvidia Control Panel? It’s already been set to it.

also do a cleaning. dust in the fans and heatsinks can lower performance.

Also thermal paste can go bad, so that may also be a thing that needs replacing.

Well, I have a laptop, so I can’t really do much other than dust it and swap HDDs/SSDs and RAM.

If you are technically inlined you can disassemble yor laptop and remove the heat sinks over the CPU/gpu and reapply the thermal paste with a high quality version, the re assemble

Well, I am somewhat tech-savvy, but I am not comfortable disassembling a laptop. If it were a desktop, I wouldn’t have any problems with it, but I really don’t want to mess with a laptop. So I guess all I can do is just keep dusting it and hope for the best.

Said it before but I’ll say it again: I’ve also encountered a massive drop in performance in the past few weeks – like the OP, I had been running it very comfortably on high settings. Now it’s only playable on low. I have an Nnvidia 680m.
I’ve tried all suggestions here. I’m running games like Watch_Dogs on ultra with no performance issues, so I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with my hardware.

I heard that GW2 is unoptimized still, which is kinda worrying. I mean, my friend runs her game on mid-high (she has a GTX 560) and she gets 60fps. But then again, she has a desktop, and I have a laptop, so I guess that factors in. But then, why the gradual drop in performance?

Possible dust build-up or crap TIM going bad.

Anyway, mobile GPUs are NOT direct analogues of their desktop versions. 560M is nowhere near as strong as a “real” GTX 560. Same for 770M vs 770, etc. Same also goes for AMD line. An HD7870M is like a stock clocks HD7770.

Figured as much. But nearly a year ago, my 560M was more than enough to run the game fine. Did the game’s requirements change all of a sudden? And yeah, I dusted my laptop already.

The Cantha Thread [Merged]

People are still arguing about this?

Yes, Cantha and Elona would be awesome to have in this game, because they were part of GW1.

However, in the end, it’s ANet’s decision. Whether they decide to use a terrible excuse (Cantha and Elona exploded and were eaten by darkness) or whatever, or maybe they just don’t want to work on those two areas for whatever other reasons, it’s their decision. We have no say over it.

Yeah, we pay for the game, and without us, they wouldn’t exist anymore, but still. We have been complaining for a long time, and still nothing. Just give it up and do something productive.

Maybe someday we’ll get Cantha and Elona. Maybe not. I honestly don’t even care anymore.

What GW1 feature would you bring to GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AdelaisAer.4109

AdelaisAer.4109

More skills. In GW1, each profession had like, 200+ skills or so. Some were better than others, obviously, but you still had an incredible amount of customization. I wish there were more skills and more diversity in GW2.

Some would argue that it’s not needed, because you have weapons with their own set skills, but in that case, it would be nice to see more weapon types. For example, different kinds of sword (both 1H and 2H) with different skills, or different types of staves with each having different skills/spells.

But that’s just my opinion.

It would be 10/30/0/30/0.

Explosives: V
Firearms: III, VIII, XI
Alchemy: I, VII, X

That’s if you want to include perma swiftness and vigor into the mix, if you want more vulnerability and quicker elixirs, go V instead of III in Firearms and II instead of I in Alchemy.

Alright, I’ll make sure to try that then. Thank you.

To me honestly it sounds like you should stick with your Guardian since you seemed to enjoy it the most even without ranged options.

If ranged is a must and you are a mostly PvE player, Ranger is a fairly strong choice IMO, but some will disagree with that. I love my Ranger, even if I hardly ever log on and play her.

Well, my Engineer is Lv. 61 and my Guardian is Lv. 53 (I don’t have any Lv. 80 characters), just to show my dedication for those two chars.

I am purely PvE (I used to do dungeon runs every so often, but now dungeons seem empty, so that’s out). I don’t PvP or WvW. I can’t even remember much of what the Ranger was like, since it’s been so long, but if I do go Ranger, I’d like a good PvE Survivability build to make up for the lack of heavy armour and other defensive skills that the guardian has.

Check out some of the Ranger dps/support builds they have in the Ranger forums. I feel like ranger has a pretty high survivability even with medium armor from all the skills that dodge etc.

It’s been so long since I really played mine that I can’t give you an up to date build, but they are out there. Maybe give Ranger a try to 30 or 40 or so then pick up the Engi or Guard if it’s not working out. I know that’s not the best option but I have been in the position you are in before, and sometimes it pays to just try them all as much as you can.

Alright, I’ll try to do that. I should also mention I don’t want any builds that require me to constantly swap/switch weapons/whatever. That’s the main reason I hated GW2’s Elemenetalist.

In PvE I found Short Bow or Axe and Torch or Horn to be the most effective for survivability/killing things. Keep in mind I used a condition build however.

The thing I don’t like about shrotbows (especially after looking at some builds) is that you have to be hitting the target from the side or the back for it to be effective.

Makes sense. Most of the time I ran around with axe/torch or axe/horn anyway. Able to hit multiple targets easier, easier to apply dots, etc.

I actually liked Axe/Axe. Had decent damage, range, and AoE, alongside some other utility skills.

I was looking at Guardian builds, and to be honest, they are either purely defensive-healing-tank (and therefore dish out next to no damage), or purely offensive builds (and therefore can die fairly easily). I haven’t seen any builds that aren’t “heal-slaves” or “kamikaze”, or at least ones that combine the two and actually work.

Also, I am trying to do the same with my Engineer. It’s either Flamethrower-only (because of Juggernaut) or Bomberman, with very little focus on actually using your weapons and instead constantly switching/swapping kits and spamming elixir utility skills and running around. While the Flamethrower IS fun, it’s useless in big event, like Southsun. 1-hit ko.

Not sure what to do. :s

With guardian, this is what I usually run with in PvE and a lot of times even in WvW. It’s a good mix match of offensive and defensive stats. I tend to gravitate towards berserker/knights armor with a few cleric pieces to get my healing power up to a respectable amount. With this build I have around 2000 power and 1700 toughness, 40% crit rate with 55% increased crit damage, and 700-900 healing power depending on which weapon I have up. Maybe this will help. I can solo champions in PvE with this build, and it’s not a slouch in killing things either.

http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/guardian#0.0.2.0-2.5.10.7.1-30.0.10.30.0-3.5.12.7.8.7.1

EDIT: In PvE you may want to swap out the utilities for more defensive minded ones. This is personal preference I believe. Also it seems the calculator I was using may be out of date. The point spread is the same either way however.

Yeah, I’d swap the meditations for shouts, especially the one that gives you like 10 boons or something, but otherwise, looks great. Thank you!

Any suggestions for Engineer builds?

But I don’t want a build that focuses too much on shouts (where I end up being a heal-slave essentially).

I’ve played this game ever since the Beta, and I still can’t seem to be able to find which class is right for me.

I think I enjoyed playing Guardian the most. Heavy armour, two-handed sword, PvE seemed fairly easy (though I didn’t use any specific builds; I just put random traits because I am an idiot, and that’s why I got 1-hit KO’d in Southsun). But I didn’t like how the only real ranged attacks I could have were with the staff and wand (scepter? whatever it’s called), both of which I hate with a passion.

Engineer seemed fun, too, though much less so. I’ve been looking at builds only recently, and although some of them seem really good (functionally, at least), they just don’t seem all that fun for me to play, even the Flamethrower Tanky build, which apparently is one of the best builds for PvE survival.

As far as casters go, from most fun to least fun, I’ve tried the mesmer, necromancer, and elementalist. Mesmer was fun for a while, and although casting random illusions was fun, I didn’t survive very well, but, again, I am not familiar with builds, and when it comes to this game, I can be a bit more casual than not. Necromancer I found boring; I preferred the GW1 variant far more. And especially ditto with the Ele. I absolutely despise the GW2 ele. I have to constantly change elements and run around and use a skill or two and rely on others to take the damage for me. (Again, maybe I did it wrong, Iunno).

Rangers I did try for a bit, and it was kinda fun, but I don’t remember much of it, since I never put much time into it. Ditto with Warrior. On one hand, it’s nice having heavy armour and 90% of all weapons available to you. On the other hand, it’s nice to have an ally you can send into battle to absorb most of the damage while you attack from afar, though the lack of heavy armour could serve your demise in Karka events (though I got 1-hit ko’d with my Guardian, so I guess it doesn’t matter after all).

TL;DR After playing for a long time, I still can’t figure out which profession is right for me. I want a profession I can use for PvE and survive well with, but is also fun to use. I don’t expect to be able to dish maximum damage out and 1-hit ko everything in my way; just something fun and functional, preferably ranged, or at least mostly- or somewhat-ranged.

EDIT Forgot to mention, I DID try Thief, but did not enjoy it at all. Seemed just like Assassin in GW1. Too much focus on making combos and stuff, and certain skills having to follow other certain skills. Bleh.

I have the same issue, man. I’ve always wanted to level my main character up (Engineer), mainly because it’s what I want to do in real life, and because the Engineer seems fun.

But to be honest, I enjoyed playing Guardian more, but I wish I could equips bows or something with it, and/or have an ally like a Ranger, but not have to use medium armour. I guess with Warrior, I can use pistols and rifles, but eh.

I just hit 60, so I am going to try that. So essentially, 30 Firearms, 20 Alchemy, and concentrate on making Flamethrower dish out as much damage as possible, right?

Would this build be useful for doing dynamic events in PvE, such as Karkas in Southsun or Shatterer?

Pretty much. As you get closer to 80, you want to Incendiary Powder for a burn to take advantage of Flame Jet’s 10% extra damage to burning targets, and could max out Alchemy and pick up either 409, or Backpack regen, it’s all up to you. There is also a FT crit damage variation build on the forums https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/PVE-BUILD-Firestorm-Engineer/first#post2099083 that I had a blast playing, but eventually just switched back to bombs cause I enjoy them a lot.

You should be more than fine for events, though southsun could be a pain at times (stupid reef riders eating might stacks).

Keep in mind that you don’t have to keep the utilities that I’ve selected, so if you find something that’s more useful to you, then by all means take it.

I see. That sounds fine, then. If I use your build, what would the final traits be for Lv. 80? Currently for me it’s 0 30 1 20 0, with the traits key skills (every ten traits) you suggested. (I’m Lv. 61)

As for the Flamethrower one, what exactly do you mean by “deadly mixture in alchemy”? I haven’t played for a while, so I am a bit out of it. Speaking of which, what would the traits be for that one?

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqel0pyaX3SdF1rIBoH1vu3Vki83YA-e

That would be a basic FT build at your level there. I neglected to get Incendiary Powder in Explosives as Juggernaut and Deadly Mixture are both two staples if you are gonna be sitting in FT. Infused precision and Invigorating speed can be swapped out for Vulnerability on crits in Firearms and Fast Acting Elixirs in Alchemy.

Beserkers would be your damage armor set, while soldiers (Power/Vitality/Toughness) would be your defensive.

Ditto with the Grandes one.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqOlIqiY3zSTdEBUh6TUh87zj3KtgQA-TIAjMmEA

That would be a starting point for nades at your level. Then you would head more into alchemy for Backpack regenerator and then into Tools for Speedy Kits. Rampager Gear (focused on conditions) would be the gearset for this.

I just hit 60, so I am going to try that. So essentially, 30 Firearms, 20 Alchemy, and concentrate on making Flamethrower dish out as much damage as possible, right?

Well, considering you’re gonna hit 60 and get grandmaster traits, you have a couple options.

1) Going grenades and getting Grenadier for 3 nades, 1500 range, applies a lot of conditions and is generally safe. If you want to sit back and lob grenades, then this is the way to go. Shrap, Short Fuse and Grenadier are the traits you want from explosives.

2) Flamethrower. Once you hit 60, it becomes more viable as might stacking comes into play. You will always have at least 6 stacks of might on you, once you get deadly mixture in alchemy (also needed).

3) Bomb build. You’ll need some defensive armor to do this, but it’s a lot of fun. Bombs hit pretty hard by themselves and with defensive armor, you can get more offensive traits. I usually run 25/15/0/10/20 for extra crit chance when the enemy is below 50% hp and more crit damage. Just keep in mind that most things will stick to you if you are running with a group unless there is a guard around, so be prepared for lots of dodging. I’d recommending picking up Elixir R with the build for a stun break and endurance refill, not to mention you should be getting vigor procs with that build which allows for more dodging or being a bit more offensive by dropping bombs via evasive keg.

I don’t think I’d like the Bomb build very much.

You’ve got a lot of unused skill points there.
What skills are you using?

Just the ones I have equipped already, and a few others that I forget at the moment. But if there are skills you recommend, please do tell me, and I’ll unlock them.

I really just want a nice reliable PvE build that’ll be fun and also will be good enough so I won’t die in two hits.

I’ve been looking at a lot of guides, but I’ve been really confused as to which would be the better build for my character, since I doubt there’s a “best” build.

I am looking for PvE-focused build, as I don’t PvP, and I hardly do dungeon runs.

Also, this is my current build, so if you could give me tips on how to make it better, that’d be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

U know what’s funny about this is, I’m constantly thinking that with a full time job and a 1 year old those college kids must have so much more time to play than I do!!

Some of those “college kids” actually have more to do than you’d expect, such as six projects, two of which are 5-page essays, due literally on the same day, as well as being in a hands-on program, meaning having to do a lot of projects constantly.

I miss the days of only needing to write 5 page essays. Wait until you need to do quarterly reports, or worse yet, reports to the government. You’ll also wish you only had to do 5 pages.

Well, the essays may seem like nothing, but the projects more than make up for that.

Like other people have said the best approach is to let your guild know you won’t have much free time for a while, and why, so they don’t expect high participation.

If that’s going to be a problem for them you might need to think about finding another guild. There is a lot of variety in requirements between them so you should be able to find one which suits you.

U know what’s funny about this is, I’m constantly thinking that with a full time job and a 1 year old those college kids must have so much more time to play than I do!!

It depends hugely on what course you’re doing. I did a biology degree and as long as I had some idea what I was doing when I started – where to look for research papers when writing an essay and so on – I could get quite a bit of free time. Once of my friends did theatre studies and it wasn’t uncommon for her to be working 12+ hours a day between lectures, rehearsals, building props, writing essays etc.

But then the same can be said of jobs. Some full time jobs take up a lot more time than others. Or some people might be able to play while working if the job involves a lot of waiting or other ‘down time’.

Of course. Well, I am in Multimedia. Think of it as the digital counterpart of Art or Studio Art. We do a lot of digital audio, film & video, animation, analyzing digital games, a bit of digital art history (or new media art history), etc.

Needless to say, it’s mostly project-based, with some theory. Plus, if you consider the time it takes to actually go out and capture things, and then edit them and process them and then post-process them, and then render them, and then make sure they are alright, and then go and fix stuff, etc. and then upload them and hand them in………

Yeah, we have very little free time, contrary to popular belief. >.>;

Before you join a guild, you should perfectly state that you are a casual gamer and not as active.

I don’t think casual gamer and “not as active” are really mutual. I am more than a casual gamer, but I did let my guild know that I am in University currently and might not be as active now as I was at the start of the school year.

Drop a note on the guild forums and/or an in-game letter to the guildleader informing them that you are absent because.

Any normal, worthwhile guild will tell you good luck with the thing and we’ll see you when we’ll see you.

Sometimes you just have to acknowledge you can’t contribute and depart, hoping to come back later. Set expectations and explain.

tl;dr communicate well

I agree. I have done that very recently, actually. Also, I want people to know that I did not make this thread to complain or anything; this is more of a discussion thread to see how other people deal with that problem.

I know some of us actually go to college and university. I am trying to finish 3rd year right now, actually, and I am studying for my last exam (on the 20th).

Thing is, a lot of other people seem to have far more free time than some of us, and, especially when you are in a guild, they might start complaining about being inactive. However, it’s not really my fault, as I have other, more important things going on in my life, such as projects, exams, essays, etc.

On top of that, after I finish this year, I will be taking a course this summer, and also be going to NYC and Japan, and also working on my painting and drawing skills.

TL;DR GO HERE
My question is, how do you deal with inactivity, dealing with other guild members/leaders, etc.? How do you try to balance the two and keep in good touch with people without being kicked out of a guild or being criticized for being inactive?

EDIT: Just to clarify, this is more of a discussion thread, NOT a complaint thread.

The simple answer to this sort of thing: Do not click a link that you believe may pose a security risk. In this example, simply access your account through the account page, which is https://account.guildwars2.com/account. Log in, and secure your account.

Alternately, type the URL into your browser instead of clicking a risky link. Where clicking a link can take you someplace other than where you intended, if you type the URL, you control where you’re heading, right?

Exactly. I haven’t clicked it yet, because it’s probably just a terrible phishing email, but I am not worried about my account security, either. I have a strong password and I am using the authenticator, though I could change my password just in case.
