Well, I forgot to mention that I did play every single profession when GW2 came out. Some I hate no matter what (Guardian and Warrior especially; sorry), but Engineer, Mesmer, and Ele are the only ones that I really enjoy (again, sorry to Necro-fans). But as I said, when it comes to Mes and Ele, I just have a love-hate relationship with them. :s I don’t know why, either. They are great, but at the same time, they kitten me off.
I think one of the main problem I have with Eles, for example, is the fact that they have no sidekicks/guardians (Rangers have pets, mesmers have phantasms, engineers have turrets, necros have minions, etc.), as well as the fact that some skills from GW1 didn’t make it into GW2.
The main problem I have with mesmers is…uh…well, I don’t know, actually. o-o; But yeah.
I have a love-hating relationship with casters…
Ever since Guild Wars 1, I’ve had this issue, sort of. In GW1, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the elementalist the most, as it quickly became my favourite. In GW2, it sort of became love-hate because it changed a bit, so it’s just not the same anymore. Ditto with the mesmer, though with mesmers, the love-hating relationship is even more exaggerated.
Right now, I am torn between mesmers and elementalists and which to go for, as I have both love and hate for them, but I am absolutely in love with the 3rd tier caster armor for Asuras and Humans, and it kills me. I don’t know what to do.
My main currently is an Engineer (human), but I really want to try and get back into my caster roots.
TL;DR – Love-hate relationship with casters, but obsessed with their cultural armour. What do.
I have a few questions, if you people can answer for me.
1) I have set static IP settings in my laptop so as to prevent my IP address from changing every so often. However, my IP address still managed to change. Is it because I have to do the same in my modem/router?
2) How do I delete/remove past IPs that I authorized from my account? I don’t want there to be a huge list of IPs by the end of the month. Thanks.
Thanks in advance.
Kodans please. I would love to be one. Think of it as a second charr-race. They aren’t feline, but they are animals/beasts. It’d be nice.
I constantly play with people I don’t know. Like, I can be working on a Task (golden heart), and some people show up and help me, and we both kill enemies or gather materials or whatever so we can both finish the Task. This goes for Dynamic events, too.
Personally, I love this new system more than GW1. Here, I can actually work with strangers on completing tasks, dynamic events, or just killing random mobs on my way from one location to another, and I don’t have to worry about managing parties or whatever. It’s really nice and convenient.
TL;DR – It’s nothing like a single player game. This game is the epitome of multiplayer. At least, in my experience.
What about people being falsely accused of being bots?
I haven’t been a victim, but I have seen people calling others bots, either because of their damage range, or because of certain skills, etc. I just want to know that I am safe from being falsely banned.
Do you run in a circle like a robot for 24 hours straight?
Do you teleport magically all over the map?
Do you stand in one spot spamming your number one skill for days on end?
This stuff is blatant and obvious.
I lol’d. But no, I do not run in circles, or teleport, or spam skills in one spot for days on end. xD
It’s mostly new people to the game who are like, “Oh my god, what the hell, an Engineer using a shield? Haxor!” or other stupid things. But also, usually, I am too lazy to dodge, so I do end up standing in one place while attacking my enemy, so I may come across to people either as an idiot (which I admit I can be when I am lazy) or a bot to noobs and other idiots.
Other than that, I don’t do anything that shouts bot or sell gold or anything of that sort. -shrugs- But you know, innocent people do get banned, because bot-detection strategies aren’t flawless.
What about people being falsely accused of being bots?

I want to disable Email Authentication. How?

I have dynamic IP, too. It changes every so often; last time was 24th. :/ Any way to change dynamic to static? I used to know this but I forget now…
EDIT: Found out how to do this. You just need to set a static IP yourself in IPv4 settings. Just google Dynamic To Static IP Win7 and you’ll get all the details. It’s really simple.

So far, all skill point challenges that require you defeat a NPC are bugged, especially when the said NPC is already in the game world and not spawned by activating a device, portal, etc.
This has been the case since the last patch went live, and while it was a minor hindrance at first, it’s now beginning to get really annoying.
Yes especially if you are trying to get world completion, i have been waiting a week, still no fix :\ it’s frustrating.
They REALLY need to implement a mechanism that either resets inactive skill challenge NPCs or some NPC/item that you can interact to manually reset them. This is a huge issue for anyone trying to get world completion.
Lornar’s Pass:
False Lake and Stonescatter Wash – both of the skill challenge NPCs in these two areas do not show up. In the former, the dynamic event does show, but the NPC does not.
Sorrow’s Furnace server.
Oh. :s Alright. Because I was absolutely terrified…
Yes please. Sign me up. +1
I got a spam mail a few days ago. Had the typical gold-selling website and stuff in the body, so I reported it.
However, there was also the body “Take All”, so I assume it included an item with it. Obviously, I didn’t do that. However, when I try to click on Return To Sender, it says that the mail system is unavailable, and the Delete button is grayed out.
What do I do? :S Can’t delete it or get rid of it or send it back; it’s just sitting in my mailbox.
Stonescatter Wash – The NPC doesn’t spawn at all.
False Lake – The NPC doesn’t spawn even though the dynamic event says otherwise.
Lornar’s Pass map. Sorrow’s Furnace server.
My FPS jumps from 45 to 60. Running on an Asus G74SX-DH72 with ThrottleStop.
It’ll be 2015 before ANet actually fixes all the skill challenge NPCs or implements an auto-reset mechanism in all the bugged NPCs and DEs.
THANK YOU. THIS RIGHT HERE IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO THE OTHER GUY. But you know, who cares about loot? We should all just have fun!
EDIT: Apparently, if I put a lot of U’s in FUN, it censors it as kitten. Okay then…
He said that in his opinion, it should be level appropriate. I disagree. IMO, if the game design is not reward-centric, then:
1) Mobs shouldn’t always drop loot;
2) Mobs should only drop loot up to level-appropriate loot;
3) Mob loot tables should have an anti-farming code that decreases the loot table when farming is likely going on.
4) Boss mobs should have, in their loot table, the chance of getting better rated, level-appropriate gear, and the anti-farming code should apply to them as well. That’s YOUR opinion, which seems to be VERY unpopular. Go browse the forums and you will see that many people (if not the majority) share the exact same opinion as me, which is the opposite of yours.
If you don’t want to be rewarded, that’s fine. By all means, go kill things for fun. But why should the rest of us suffer, huh?
Regardless if his opinion is unpopular or not shouldn’t have a bearing on a logical conversation.
What I do have issues with however is all of this ridiculous argument AGAINST the folks trying to make the game better for everyone with no valid reasoning or logic behind it.
I myself am in software development, and I cannot even begin to explain how many very popular products wouldn’t even exist had it not been for those hardcore early adopters who literally beat the crap out of a product to find out where it faulted or where it could be improved. It’s literally FREE QA.
I would like to have thought this community would attempt to help those of us who are working to make this game better (not just those complaining about it, but those of us who are offering thought out, logical solutions to what we perceive as problems). Rather instead, what we get is this ridiculous white knight nonsense of “there’s nothing wrong with the game, ur doing it wrong”.
That’s my problem with that guy. I am making a logical point – drops should be level appropriate. That’s logical, right?

So yes, I am thoroughly dissapointed when I come in to find aspects of the game that clearly dictate a need grind (dungeon armor, kharma armor). I expected something better, not less difficult, but better.
What do you need dungeon or kharma armor for?
Is this a legit question? If you don’t know what they’re used for, you really shouldn’t be arguing against anyone in this thread.
If you do know what they’re used for and are fishing for an argument, then I’ll stop you right there. You don’t “need” to do anything in this game, you can turn it off and walk away – no harm, no foul. Except some of us really had some positive expectations about GW2’s gameplay only to be presented with “ok well if you REAAALLLLY want it, we’re going to make you grind the hell out of it” – which was COMPLETELY contrary to what they led us to believe.
I agree with you completely. We had expectations based on what they have been telling us since the game was first announced, and now that we ask “Well?”, people like Wintyre Fraust try to justify it by telling us we don’t “need” the things we were promised, because, you know…it’s all about having fun, right?
That right there is my whole point, and with that, the argument is over.
Because some other guy agrees with you, the argument is over?
Well, no. It’s more because the point we both make is also the point that many other people in the forums make while you seem to be all about “yes to fun, no to rewards! This isn’t WoW!”
Just because you think GW2 isn’t “reward-centric” doesn’t mean that the rest of us shouldn’t expect to get better rewards.
You can expect whatever you want. I’m explaining to you why your expectations are not being met and probably will not be met in GW2, considering what I know of GW1 and ANET’s game-design philosophy.
The majority of the fanbase is complaining.
You and I have no way of knowing what the “majority” opinion is.
Are you saying that all of us have got GW2 wrong and are playing it wrong, and the way YOU are playing it is better than ours?
I make my case about the design philosophy of GW2 based on ANET’s own manifesto, what they’ve said, how they ran GW1 9, and their actions since release. As far as playing a game right or wrong, or who’s playstyle is “better”, I’ve got 150 hours and enjoy playing immensely every time I log in. I love, love, love this game. I can see myself playing this game for years and years, and spending quite a bit in the cash shop (already dropped $40 on bank space).
The case I’m making isn’t that your playstyle is “wrong”, just that as it is isn’t suited to enjoying GW2 because it isn’t the kind of game you expect or are used to. If “better” means I enjoy GW2 more than some others here, then yes, the way I play is “better” because I’m enjoying it more. That doesn’t mean your playstyle or expectations are wrong per se, but just that maybe they aren’t suitable to GW2.
I am not saying the only way to have fun is to kill stuff for rewards. What I AM saying, however, is that I expect better things. Yes, I know, it’s what I expect.
And your expectations are not being met, which is my point: the game is not reward-centric. If not getting a reward for the things you do in the game is so dissatisfying that you are motivated to complain about it on the forums, then I suggest your motivation for playing is more reward-centric than ANET philosophy will accommodate.
But if it were just me saying that, then sure, I’d be in the wrong. But when hundreds of other people are saying the same thing I am, you know something’s wrong.
Not really. All we know is that there are a certain number of people (I don’t know if it’s in the hundreds here, but you’d expect at least hundreds of people complaining from a pool of over 2 million in sales) whose expectations are not being met and are here complaining about it. Generally, you only hear from dissatisfied customers, not the satisfied ones. Considering ANET’s core game design philosophy runs counter to the general skinner-box design of most current MMOG’s, you’d expect to have this kind of reaction from many players who went into GW2 with these kind of expectations.
“Well in this case I agree with you then. I dont think a drop, if the game ever decided to give you one, should be of a lower level than the content you are experiencing at that moment. There is just no reason for that.
The encounter could have not given you any loot bags, but if it did, the loot should be level appropriate, in my opinion, at least." -deriver.5381
/argument
That right there is my whole point, and with that, the argument is over.
Excuse me? Fun-centric? Oh yeah, it’s totally fun to have to try to kill a champion enemy for five minutes with four other people, only to finally get a loot from it, which happened to be a low level blue hammer. FUN!
If your idea of fun is reward-centric, GW2 probably isn’t the best game for you.
It’s not that my fun is reward-oriented, but I’d like to be properly rewarded when I do something. If I were to kill a low level enemy, I’d expect a crap item. But from a champion (which is pretty much like a boss enemy)? I expect better things. :/ It’s just common sense.
I took my time to mark your contradiction for yourself. What you said is the very definition of reward-oriented, where you demand to be rewarded for your time and effort.
I’ve killed plenty of champions on this game just because I wanted to see the place where they were and had to pass through them. I had my reasons, the fights were interesting (some of them could have been better tho) and my reward was the feeling that I managed to do what I wanted, in the end.
Yes, it could have dropped a +500 Infernal Sword of Eternal Death, it would have been great, but I didn’t find it unfun just because I had no drops.
It’s not a contradiction. It’s a simple matter of fact. Higher level enemies give you more experience points and, hopefully, better loot. Or at least, that’s how it should be anyway.
Obviously I don’t expect it to drop a legendary, but you know, at least something that matches its level at the very least (it was Lv. 36, I think? I got a lvl. 16 item).
I do things for fun in the game; I do map exploration a lot and run around and good off a lot, but when I kill enemies, they need to give me the proper amount of experience points (a lv. 5 boar isn’t going to give me 10,000 exp, right? Only about 10 or so). That’s all. > >;
If you have been given a lower level loot, it was probably because you were playing on a lower level map, am I right?
The game has a system in place that, if you are downleveling yourself to play on a lower level zone, you may or may not get loot based on your real level. Sometimes the loot will be based to the level of the zone. This may have been the case for you.
>Lv. 35~36 Champion
>Lower level mapNo, you are not right. I am well aware of down-leveling, but I wasn’t in a low level map. In fact, the other people who were with me all had the exact same complaints as me. We enjoyed the champion battle, don’t get me wrong, but we were disappointed in the loots. The only thing decent was the experience points given to us.
Well in this case I agree with you then. I dont think a drop, if the game ever decided to give you one, should be of a lower level than the content you are experiencing at that moment. There is just no reason for that.

Uh, proper according to my level and the champion’s level, maybe?
It’s not “proper”, it’s just what you expect, probably from playing reward-centric games. If the game design is specifically not reward-centric, then it would not be proper (according to the design philosophy) to consistently offer that kind of reward for such encounters, and it would be proper to install a system that diminishes the reward table via farming.
Which is, in fact, what we have in GW2.
Relativity sure seems important, don’t you think? If I am lvl 39 and I kill a lv. 10 enemy, I’d expect very little from it. But if I kill a boss monster my level, I’d expect way more out of it.
As I said, you are confusing “what is proper” and what you “should” get with what you just expect to get. The question is, why do you have those expectations in the first place, and why do you expect GW2 mechanisms to conform to them?
Everykittengame in the history of man kind has the simple system of relativity.
No, they don’t. Very, very few do, which just goes to show how much MMOGers have been programmed by the skinner box model WoW and WoW clones employ that they cannot even conceive of a game where you don’t get progressively rewarded.
Oh, alright. I’ll just go kill the endgame elder dragons, get 15 exp from them and a lemon, and then just keep running around maps and having fun. Yeah.
Just because you think GW2 isn’t “reward-centric” doesn’t mean that the rest of us shouldn’t expect to get better rewards. The majority of the fanbase is complaining. Are you saying that all of us have got GW2 wrong and are playing it wrong, and the way YOU are playing it is better than ours?

“Proper”, according to what? Your expectations as have been conditioned by other games that employ skinner-box reward treadmills?
Uh, proper according to my level and the champion’s level, maybe? Relativity sure seems important, don’t you think? If I am lvl 39 and I kill a lv. 10 enemy, I’d expect very little from it. But if I kill a boss monster my level, I’d expect way more out of it.

There seems to be at least one broken on every map for Ehmry Bay. Please fix them.
Pretty much. :s ANet said they’ll release the game when it’s ready, yet the game feels rushed to me…
Human, Engineer, 39, 7/10. Mostly happy, but with skill challenge npcs not working, and loots and rewards from mobs/champions being absolute crap, I am getting progressively unhappy the more I play.
The skill challenge npc isn’t spawning and this has been going on for a week at least. It’d be nice if there was an auto-reset feature or something to make the npc respawn. But there isn’t, so could you please reset and fix him? Thanks.
I think it would be nice to be able to dye your weapons and shields, just like in Guild Wars. Just like armour, dying your weapons and shields will be purely cosmetical. Is this possible to implement, or will it be a GW1-only feature?
Sorrow’s Furnace would benefit highly from a restart, too…
Yes please. Can’t get 100% map completion because of this.
So the skill challenge NPC in Vigillant Hills (or is that technically Vigil Keep?) doesn’t spawn at all. Been bugged for a few days. Already reported the bug but still no results. It’s been almost a week, if not more.
Can you please get on this bug asap? I can’t get 100% completion because of this, and many other people keep getting disappointed because of this, too.
The map is Gendarran Fields.
(edited by AdelaisAer.4109)
ITT: People who don’t know the difference between Zooming In/Out and FoV (Field of Vision). Two completely different things. Look them up.
Also, I would love for Guild Wars 2 to have a better FoV, especially for those playing on one monitor.
Mounts are absolutely useless in this game, even as cosmetical items. Pretty much all classes can haste themselves, and can use tonics to transform themselves. Also, if you want to have your own pet, just go Ranger.
I agree. It would be nice to have this option.
We all know that when you finish dungeons, map completions, etc., you often get crappy rewards (dungeon-wise, I am ignoring the chests, albeit those aren’t always reliable, either). Also, when you kill Champion (gold ring) enemies with three or four other people, the loot you get is absolutely horrendous. It is unacceptable.
Can we please fix the reward and looting systems? I suggest actually giving us things that are worth the fight, instead of crap items that we can easily get from a low-level forest boar. It’s a disgrace.
I killed a Champion Rock Dog (or whatever it was; I forget. It was in Northfields, Gendarran Fields) with four other people. It was a difficult battle and took a few minutes. My loot? Some low-level blue hammer. It’s useless and worthless. Can’t use it, no point selling it. Makes me think, “What was the point? Just a little bit of exp?”
I am honestly disappointed.
Guild Wars had one. Makeover Pack and Extreme Makeover Pack.
Recently, I asked the support team about name changes, and they said that they are planning on bringing it back, as well as other popular items, which I hope means the Makeover and Extreme Makeover Packs.
+1. Seems like a great idea. Would love to see this getting implemented.
I’d rather have a profession that s able to ‘consume’ or ‘capture’ monsters to unlock the power to transform into them, instead one that just summons them.
That’s called a Ranger.
Really the engineer is a re-skinned Ritualist with kits instead of urns. I don’t think we need a class that’s any more “pet based” than either the ranger or necro… this isn’t Pokemon.
This.
Engineer pretty much is ritualist.
Well, it’s not like I expect it to be fully-automated, but it’s pretty annoying when mid-skill, the skill cancels, my character completely stops fighting (and just stands there like an idiot) and my enemy keeps attacking fluidly like nothing happened; and then I have to wait for my skill to recharge and hope it won’t be cancelled mid-skill again. :/
You know, when you enter combat in Guild Wars 2, everything’s fine and dandy. You attack your opponent, dodges their attacks, chain your skills…
But then, what if your opponent charges towards you and stops behind you? It still continues to attack, but your character stops. Even if you were in the middle of using a skill, like (in my case) poison darts, mid-skill my character stops because apparently there is no mechanism to make my character automatically turn around, face the opponent, and keep attacking.
It would be really nice to have such a simple mechanism implemented. Would make combat far more fluid and fun, because right now, it kinda pisses me off whenever the enemy is situated behind me, and the skill I am using suddenly stops, and then I have to wait for it to recharge.
Just a simple suggestions. Agree? Disagree? Both? Neither? Let me know. And I am not trying to bash on Guild Wars 2. Just trying to suggest a simple mechanic.

I ended up joining the Durmand Priory, since it seems to be the least battle-filled. I guess.
I’ve got someone in the Priory and someone in the OoW, and I thiiiink that Whispers has less fighting, overall. At least the way I did it.
Oh. Well, too late for me, I guess. ;_; The thing that got me the most was that he said that I’ll get to explore Dwarven ruins. <3
Still bugged. Standing in front of him right now and he is bugged to hell. :/
Hmmm, Armor is one reason to join a order. I picked durmand though for the background. They are an Indiana Jones type of order sending you over jumping puzzles and small and windy ledges to your goal.
As I understood the Vigil is a bit like LEEEEERRRROOOOYYYS JJJEEENNNKKIIINNS, don’t think but crash some skull kind of people. The battles and fights I saw when helping buddy’s looked easy and very doable though.
Thew Order of Whispers are best to be compared with James Bond in Tryia order. I have played that one a lot, but my next character is going that way for sure.
The best thing is to follow your heart at first and with your other slots you can experience all three of them.
Pretty much how I felt, which is why I picked Priory ultimately.
