Is the first build still viable? Or have changes in the game made it worthless? It seems like a very fun solo WvW build to me.
Still say Sword/Shield is far better for roaming purposes
Used Sword/shield all the time in GW1. Used it for a long kitten time in GW2. It gets kind of boring after a bit. Axe/Shield is a bit flashier & funner in WvW IMHO. specially if your alternate set has some CC.
Yes Axe is a very fun weapon.
I’ve found this build:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Axe-Shield-Rifle-Dmg-Dealer/first#post653990
Does it still work? Lots of attack power, fair health, good crit and good crit dmg
So is there any axe main hand build that would be a good WvW solo roamer? Or is axe not good for WvW in general?
I posted this thread because I have not found many dual axe WvW builds. I would like some more input.
Thanks
I would really like some input on this build and how you think I should play it:

I am also looking for some good builds, so if anyone can recommened one to me, I would appreciate it.

You are silly. WvW is PvE.
SPvP needs moar modes. It has been noted.
PvP stands for Player vs. Player. I go to WvW to kill other players. I am also a player. Therefore, WvW is PvP – claim rendered invalid.
No. You go to WvW to take camps and towers to help your world. And NPC’s guard those camps and towers, not players. It is more beneficial to kill NPC’s in WvW than it is to kill other players. Therefore, WvW is PvE.
I’m wondering how viable this option is in fixing the stealth issue that every other class complains about. So how about it? Stealth becomes semi-invisible, and viola! We still get stealth, (your character is still hard to see, and the enemy will waste time looking for you) and the other classes can stop whining about how OP the thief is.
I’m an active player.

Appearance wise, Charr are lot closer to the average player’s ideal conception of a leader compared to most of the other races.
I’m not really talking about being a leader; actually my char looks silly because he has no armor (and his name is Asparigus Reflex). What i’m trying to say it that people have different opinions of what I say when it comes from one character’s mouth rather than another’s. Therefore I say different things on different characters.
Alt-er-egos
Being that I spend much of my time in WvW with my guild, there are many opportunities for talk and fun. But one of my characters, a huge, naked, tiger looking char always has more followers and just gets people talking. Even though I am the same person on both accounts, because one looks more fun to be around, (a naked char over a slim Sylvari, armor clad thief) everybody jokes around with one character over another. Anyone else experiencing this?
If such a thing were implemented I would think it would be in need for heavy moderation. Some users just can’t control themselves.
I think it’d just give mods a reason to throw anything in there as soon as it deviates.
Wow. You people really have no faith in the player base that they cant just have 1 section where talk isn’t about the game? Did you not notice the differences in the player population’s happiness in the link I provided? I doubt the moderators will have to go through much more than they already do to keep it running smoothly.
As an aside, I would like to point out that the posters that most frequent the Off Topic section also have very large amounts of total posts, and constantly post in all other sections of the forums.
Recently, there have been many comments on the state of the forum base and the amount of complaining and quitting going on. To fix this, I would suggest an Off Topic section that allows players to have some fun, relax, and joke around with friends. In a Facebook MMO I am currently playing, the game forums have this feature, and the many people this attracts makes for a great environment and also helps to keep players in game longer as they have the opportunity to meet new friends and play with them in game. Currently, we are having an election for “forum president”. (this player doesn’t actually do anything, its just for fun). Here’s a link:
http://www.castleageforums.com/cforum/forumdisplay.php?f=18
I think that if this is implemented in these forums, it will have a very benificall overall effect on retaining players that would otherwise leave, and would provide some much needed lightening up of the forum.
A day or two ago, I joined a random sPVP match for fun. As soon as the map opened, I saw a message to all the players saying that two people would be dueling, so please don’t disturb them. This was the first time I had ever seen this, and I thought it was a little weird, but whatever. So I watched them, and it looked like great fun. Then someone asked me to duel, and that was fun, too. So we kept dueling with each other. Then, the 5 minutes were up, and we went to a different map. There, we actually played sPVP how it was intended, and due to the previous dueling game, we all knew each other pretty well, and the sPVP was even more fun than normal.
Has this ever happened to any of you guys? How did you deal with people asking you if they could duel during sPVP? Have you ever asked anyone? If not, try it. It’s actually a lot of fun, and allows people to duel without the devs creating a whole new mode.
Kitten! I knew it!!!!
I was in WvW recently taking a tower. It was a large operation, and I was manning a ballista. I had been downed before I had taken control of the ballista. Suddenly, my character dropped, and the game told me to return to a waypoint. I didn’t, and soon enough one of my teammates revived me. But someone had taken control of the ballista while I was dead. Then the glitch: I got teleported a good distance away from the ballista (weird), and my camera was focused on the person manning it. My character still had the gear over his head, and the only way I could control him was to attack (I couldn’t move). I went back to a waypoint, and now I still have the gear over my head.
Please fix this. Whatever happened
I am open to move to any worlds to create the guild
Gods Union of Lethal Holy Angels.
Rule #1: WE SHALL WEAR ALL WHITE
Rule #2: WE SHALL PVP AND WVW (only pve is dungeons for gear)
Rule #3: MUST BE LEVEL 40 AND ABOVE
Sounds cool right? Well I need a very active level 80 player to create the guild and be the representative. I will be second in command and you could be first. You will have any liberties you wish as long as you don’t kick me and don’t break any of the rules.
We could have a lot of fun like this. And a guild wearing all white is instantly recognizable.
This mode will not work. Even if you enjoy ganking, (which I don’t personally enjoy) no one likes being the subject of one, and many, many people will be the subject of gankings and quit the mode. The reasons why it won’t work because of the combat is as follows: It requires you to be in a group with many people who will most likely accidentally hit you and kill you while in combat. If you planed ahead for this somehow, (by making teams, which is not a ffa) you would essentially create tons of zergs and whoever is in the biggest zerg will win.
I have this suggestion which solves both those who only wants to do pve and those who love pvp in a pve world:)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Tagged-for-pvp/first#post1167087
The issue of ganking still arises in this if many people choose to enter this mode instead of pve.
So you guys want free for all? Because ffa will not work. For instance: I’m a level 50 running around doing quests and stuff. I am halfway done with a long, particularly hard quest and then someone comes and kills me for some exp. And then I have to restart the quest over and over again because people keep killing me. Who would want to be a part of that? Standing around waiting for someone to just randomly kill is hardly my idea of fun, and being the one to get randomly killed is not fun either. Even if there were no quests involved, and it was just a huge ffa, then it would be a blood bath and people wouldn’t even know what’s going on.
Ffa (for this game) doesn’t work.
For pvpers in general i find this games pvp sorely lacking, i hate pve in general and is one of the reasons i refused to buy this game. After a month of WvW boredom i quit and just play Spvp which after about an hour or 2 gets insanely boring.
Yeah I have 2 level 30’s after a month of play. I haven’t touched my quests and never pve. The only thing I do now is WvW after I get bored of PvP.
what i want:
2. open world pvp. i don’t know how this would work, but i really love the concept of questing whilst being able to be attacked at any time.
This sounds good, but imo is not what the game needs. First of all, questing solo is fairly hard, and rightly so. But when you then add the possibility of being attacked by other players at any time, then it gets down right impossible.
No, what I am thinking is Guild v Guild, maybe dueling, and just some more sPVP modes.
not in the actual fighting mechanics (which could use a bit of work, class changes and such…) but with the sheer lack of PvP in the game. There is a limited amount of PvP in WvW, (the NPC’s guarding the camps and such are far too important for the mode to be PvP) and therefore, in order to play PvP, a player must go to sPvP. But sPvP has no impact on PvE (a large part of the game) and WvW (another large part of the game). In contrast to PvE and WvW, sPvP, being the only form of PvP in the game, is NOT nearly good enough, in the sense that it gets repetitive and boring, was called an esport by the developers, and there are few maps and modes. That is disappointing because the traits and skills were specifically designed to be focused more on player skill than trait allocation. So why make the biggest parts of the game things that DON’T focus on one player’s skill vs another player’s skill?
14 hours a day.
No shame.
Lol you guys are awesome!
Just wondering what are you guys doing in game with all these hours?
Would be just as interesting if you elaborate as well.
This is a good point. Sounds good.
I have been doing only sPVP and WvW. Mainly WVW for money, karma, friends, a semblance of pvp, leveling, and fun. sPVP is for an esport. Even though I enjoy sPVP more, Its just too repetitive.
And I thought was bad with my 1100+ hours and all classes at 80 at least once
It all depends on how long you’ve been playing. Although the game hasn’t been out very long anyways.
BTW, is it possible to create polls on these forums? I would like to make a poll of this.
…yeah. That’s why I don’t PVE. It’s repetitive and the moves of the bosses are easy to figure out. The answer to you is simple: either PVP, where you will definitely get what you’re looking for in terms of combat, or WVW.
Isn’t that what your community is for? Having fun and coming up with stuff to do together?
^^ This
Iah weeel do both. DIE
lol idk…. you have to want some sort of record if you dont log out that often
Gawd……………….
STRAIGHT ANSWER PLEASE. IS THIS STILL GOING OR NOT. CAN I, A LEVEL 23 THIEF, JOIN AN ACTIVE FULL THIEF GUILD? OR IS THIS THREAD DANCING AROUND THE FACT THAT ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN????
Use the topic title properly.
Lol fixed
I’d join. Although it seems like the idea is dead at this point due to a full month of inactivity.
As many (or not) of you know, an easy way to check how long you have played the game in total is to type /age in chat. So I checked, and started wondering how long other people have been playing, their average time on per day, and how long it took them to get to the level they are (assuming they’re not level 80 yet). For starters, here are my stats:
Across all characters, I have played about 61 hours. Over 24 days, that averages to about 2.5 hours of play time a day. I have a level 25 thief (level 5 PVP) and a level 20 warrior (also level 5 PVP).
Please feel free to say how much I suck, how should be on more (or less), ect. You could even post your own times gasp. Let’s see how everyone matches up.
There is not a huge gap between Rifle and P/P damage like this community likes to make it out to be. P/P has a lot of issues, but damage isn’t one of them.
I seem to misunderstand. If damage isn’t a problem, and the build has pretty good mobility, then what are the issues with the build???
P/P has poor sustained damage, Volley does 2x more damage then Unload does, i’d rather have volley up every 8 seconds then use 3 unloads, because after 3 unloads, I have to wait 24 seconds to get my initiative back, meanwhile I can use volley again in 8 more seconds…
I suppose that this is the greatest argument against the dual pistol thief. It makes a lot of sense. Obviously, in every respect other than the mobility, ranged warrior is more effective (in that it deals more damage). The biggest issue that I have with the slow attacks of the warrior is when a player runs away. If the player dodges and obstructs me, there’s absolutely no way to get him. My thief had a much easier time in these situations.
I just ran a rifle/longbow warrior in sPVP. I’m pretty sure my thief did more damage. It was also more mobile.
I’m at a loss. I’ve got 2 builds here, each that can do different things very well. Which do you prefer, because I cannot tell which one is better (at WVW and sPVP)
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAnXTjgOxutOKPMxBCkiqYlzDqsEyrU0m7A;T8Ag1yqEUJpSVliKqiMFJKyWkrIZRLOGVMJ
Right. There is obviously a bit of an issue with the build. But, while playing sPVP, I mentioned that I rarely die. In this, I mean that I die on average less than once a round. The survivability, although not stellar, is pretty good, and I still do considerable damage. Through evading and being tricky with my character placement, I can get good shots off and do very well if I have a teammate fighting next to me. I do agree that in 1v1, we die. I also agree with all of your points against the build; I have noticed them before. I suppose people who have (or are considering playing) this build should look for a ranged ?warrior? alternate build instead?
Prior to actually playing the game, I had chosen a dual axe crit focused warrior as my build of choice. I hated it. I could not play it in sPVP, and I could not play it in WVW (I only enjoy PVP). For starters, I would frequently be in the middle of a mob, get overwhelmed, button mash, and die. So I immediately looked for a ranged build with good damage and mobility. And here’s what I found:
http://www.gw2builds.org/view/106004/range_thief_tickle_baddies_with_your_love_bullets
So I would appreciate it if the build was examined and was given some feedback. More importantly, could I use it well in sPVP and WVW. I have been playing with it for a week, and I do enjoy it. In sPVP, I rarely die, and feel as if I do reasonable damage and can hold my own in 1v1 fights. In WVW however, I die pretty frequently and if there is ever a 1v_ I pretty much loose. I actually find it hard to escape in these fights. Not sure if WVW attracts better players than sPVP or the build is just less effective in WVW, but I would rather my character preform better in WVW than sPVP.
Thanks for the help.
