On the contrary, I believe they would start supporting us if we show we support them by buying stuff from the Gem Store, and they may realise that the Mac Beta people are a larger chunk of the whole community and would lose a lot if they lose us. If we don’t support them, what have they got to lose?

This has already been disproven. Were you playing earlier this year when the Mac client had a bug that caused the Trading Post to stop working? As soon as it was discovered the devs were instantly on the forums to help us and the problem was fixed as fast as they could. Once it was fixed, they were gone. Why would they do that? Because we ARE spending lots of money on the Trading Post and having that cash flow stop was ultimately hurting them.

Having the user base spend so much money on the Trading Post gives the devs a false sense of security that we are happy enough with the game as is to be dumping our money into it that they don’t really see fixing this client as a worthwile investment. The product is already working in their eyes since we are throwing money at them.

Not sure if you saw my other post but Game Informer wrote up a great article this month dealing with this very issue. The conclusion they came up with is that it is wrong and unprofessional for a developer to release a game in “beta” form if the cash shop is open for business. We vote with our dollar and they’re listening. Right now, we’re telling them that they’re doing a great job. You want to see them fix this client? Then we all need to stop and show them that we are not happy with the current state of the game.

For anyone who is subscribed to it, there is a great article in this month’s Game Informer talking about why they think it is wrong for companies to advertise MMO’s as a “beta” when the cash shop is active. They’ve got some really good points in there talking about how having a steady stream of income coming in while a game is not actually finished gives developers a false sense that customers are enjoying the game enough as is and removes any sense of urgency to finish the game and debug/optimize it. Sound familiar to anyone? lol. Wish I could post a link but it is not available without a digital subscription.

You guys need to create a sticky on the Mac forums thread explaining that the client is not actively being worked on so that we stop having people creating threads asking what is (in this case isn’t) being done for the beta client. Here is Izzy explaining the situation and the lack of support at PAX.

“We know there are a lot of Mac users out there, we care about them, we pay attention to what’s going on with them a lot” and yet “We haven’t done a ton to it” and there “Hasn’t been a big focus or something we’re putting a lot of energy into.” Yeah, forget you too ANet!!! It would be nice if you gave the Mac client some support, really any at all.

One possible suggestion would be actually attempting to help users with their problems on the Mac beta support forum thread rather than simply having Luis repost a thread created by a user named Kyllaa as the only means of “troubleshooting.” (not trying to bash Kyllaa, she has been extremely helpful but if Luis isn’t actually doing anything then why is he there?)

Another would be to communicate with us, you know like anything at all. You guys do “state of the game” and “what’s to come later in the year” articles and yet you have never mentioned us in any of them, at all. There hasn’t even been a dev post regarding us since last October.

A last suggestion would be to care, yet again, at all about our community. You leave our client broken, unsupported, and neglected. Take a guess how the community feels? (hint, see previous sentence)

In all seriousness though, 10 months is way too long to allow a game client for the “fastest selling game in the west” to be neglected like this. You have lost the faith of most of the Mac community and at some point, you’re going to lose them all. Time to step it up and actually try, at all, to make things right.

Hiring on Luis to help with the Mac forums was a nice little gesture, one I’m assuming most people appreciate, but the issue is that he can’t really do much more than repost the posts Kyllaa has been posting for the last year.

(side note: why haven’t ANet offered Kyllaa a job yet? SERIOUSLY!!!)

With there being such an immense amount of dev/support traffic on all of the other forums and not even the slightest mention of us in the second half of the year update, I’ve lost all of my hope in there ever been a native client. They’ll probably bandage this wrapper up and pull off the “beta” sticker but for some reason or another they just do not appear to care about the Mac community at all. We have little to no customer support, one single forum moderator who, while we do greatly appreciate what he has tried so far, has been unsuccessful in gaining any more attention to this client, and a complete lack of existence from any and all State of the Game or developer updates. Even Colin hasn’t given any of us the time of day to respond to our requests for an update.

I’m just too tired to care at this point. We should not have to get down on our knees and beg to get simple, basic customer support or updates from a developer that we all support financially and most of us have supported emotionally over the years from GW1 to today. It is an incredibly unfortunate situation, one I do not plan on dealing with any longer. Thanks for all of the fun and all the memories. It’s a shame that what started out so strong had to end like this.

I had a support ticket open for trying to get more moderators involved on the forums just to see what would happen. Here is their response:

I have spoken with the responsible people here at ArenaNet. Once the Mac version is not in beta anymore, there will be dedicated support staff.

However, for now, there will be no forums support for Mac. We will try to resolve any tech issue that comes in via support tickets, but we have no one specifically specializing in Macs right now. We will be expanding our staff once the Mac version is released.

I am not able to tell you when the Mac version is going to be released as this is something that depends on the resources that ArenaNet is allocating towards the development.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us again at any time.

Ticket #130701-001031. They updated the ticket and moved it to a new team on 7/1/13 but I have never received a response from it.

It has two responses just today. Can you please let me know if you do not see them? Check your Junk Mail and Spam filters, if you’re reading via email. Sometimes they get filtered.

This wasn’t the Late July video/post (though you may already know that).

Indeed, the Gw2 in the second half of 2013 blog post is coming later this month, we’re focusing specifically today on summarizing what living world teams will be building in the future based on the feedback we’ve received so far, as well as announcing releases every 2 weeks going forward.

(And to the person who asked, fear not! The next blog post talks about rewards like crazy.)

Completely agree with OP. Would be a great addition. Either that or make the Temple of Balthazar final meta event easier to accomplish with smaller numbers since the problem usually is the lack of people around to complete the event.

There has been way too much temp material in this game. I get that they want to keep this whole “living, breathing, always changing world” vibe going but its incredibly frustrating to constantly miss out on content simply because I’m not playing every single day of the year. Hopefully they’ll bring things, like the infinite gathering materials, back in some way or another.

I would say, general discussion is for the game itself. Combat, gameplay, how people feel about changes or changes they would like. Threads of that nature. You topic wasn’t really about the game. It was more about computer systems as they relate to the game.

I guess you are kind of right. Is the tech support thread really the right place for a discussion like that though? I’m just worried that it might not really belong there either and then we’ll get in trouble for misusing those threads. lol.

Anything that doesn’t go against the Forum code of conduct:
“Do not engage in staff call-outs. Using the words “ArenaNet” or any staff member’s name will not expedite the answer to your query.”
“Do not post petitions, “I demand an answer” threads, conspiracy threads, or comments about circumventing the rules.”

I think there is a difference between asking for a response, which has already been done, and creating multiple topics and posts asking over and over again. We have already asked and we have had responses that indicate they are aware of Mac users desire for updates. Continuing to complain about it doesn’t help the situation. Acknowledge that there is a problem and move on.

Interesting perspective. Do you really think that silence will fix the problem though? The real issue on my mind is a lack of communication. If we stop asking for communication and the problem persists what would you then recommend? Would you feel that this is more of a “what they says goes” no matter what situation or do we, as consumers, have any say in the matter? Again, just trying to have an honest discussion. Not trying to start an argument.

Hi, I was just wondering if someone might be able to point me to a thread and/or post that clarifies what is/is not allowed in this section of the forums. I had created what I thought was a general discussion about the Mac client being in beta so long. It was flagged and then moved to the Mac beta tech support thread. There was nothing in the post relating to tech support such as bugs/issues/glitches/etc. so I’m just a little bit confused as to why it is moved. Are we not allowed to discuss the Mac client since it is in beta? Not being sarcastic, honestly just confused as to why it was moved. Thanks!

Foxx, I totally hear what you are saying but I’m more with Trog on this one. The primary issue is that they came out and said that they were so excited about getting this beta out and brought in a new customer base who have no access to a PC and/or Bootcamp that have now been left in the dark for 9 months. I think we should all understand how frustrating that is.

Yeah, I got a PM saying that this was not allowed in the General thread section and that it was being moved here. I sent them an email asking why since this thread is more of a discussion than it is a technical support issue. Will be very interested to hear what they say though it will probably end up being something like, “All Mac stuff goes here.” lol

Fox, not any real updates on this though. She responded to issues with Gems (obviously the team came in to fix that since it hurt their pocketbooks) but they have not yet addressed this issue.

We post when we’re able. We read pretty much ALL the threads on here, but we have time to respond to very few of them.

It’s not that we favor any profession over the other, even though that seems to be the belief for some players – it’s not true.

You guys ever going to show some love to the Mac users though? Those threads have not been updated since last October.

Considering they are putting so much work into next weeks patch, my assumption is that they took the time to fix the gem store since it was hurting their pocket books and will now scurry back to working on that patch. Hopefully they take notice of us sooner or later though….

Support Tickets for Mac Useless

We are always told on the Mac forums that the best way to get a response is to contact support. Out of the 12 tickets I have had to create since launch for various reasons almost every single response has been 1.) Go post of the Mac client forums, 2.) This client is in beta so we cannot help you, and 3.) Buy Windows and play on Bootcamp.

It has become apparent to me from my experience thus far that this game is not supported on the Mac and this so called “beta” is not being developed into a full-fledged client anytime soon.

If someone from ANet wants to prove me wrong and show us that you want our business then by all means, explain the situation you have drug us through since last October. Until then, you have lost my business. I’m tired of supporting a company that does not support me.

Will you guys be keeping items such as the Consortium Sickle and other such temp items on the store until you guys can fix this or are we fresh out of luck? Went on to purchase one tonight only to find this thread. lol

(sidenote: I just about had a heart attack when I saw that a mod had posted in these forums. Here’s hoping things start to change for the better now. crosses fingers)

Thank you for making this thread Kyllaa. In February and March I tried bringing this forward in the threads, through support tickets, and through about 10-20 PM’s to Mods, nothing was done and nothing was said. In just a day you have already gotten a response from a Mod, and a positive message at that! That’s more than I was ever able to accomplish. Hopefully they’ll actually follow through this time…..
