i love the ascended gear, it was greatly needed. something to work towards without giving too much advantage.

Advantage against who? Other players in WvW? Other mobs/bosses in other dungeons?

Can you take full exotics from Arah and run lvl 20 FOTM? Even playing field?

Agony as a mechanic during boss fight is simply tacked onto most large scale AoE attacks/projectiles as it is. So if you avoid the circles and dodge the balls of fun coming you’re way, you will more or less be able to clear the content without Ascendant Gear.

@PopeUrban.2578

“The fact is that for all the complaining about best in slot, required tier gear, etc. the only “treadmill” that ascended items bring to the game is increasing difficulty level of the fractals eventually requiring ascended-only agony related stats. Past that, guess what? You can still kill people win WvW wearing exotics. You can still do full on explorable runs wearing exotics.”

Can a player in full exotic Arah gear run level 20 Factals? If not then how is Ascended gear not tiered to enjoy game content?

As someone who has actually encountered Agony, yeah you can run level 20 Fractal without ascended gear. Agony as a mechanic during boss fight is simply tacked onto most large scale AoE attacks/projectiles as it is. So if you avoid the circles and dodge the balls of fun coming you’re way, you will more or less be able to clear the content without Ascendant Gear.

People never felt they had a need for legendaries to do the current content despite the statistical advantage, but suddenly, people feel they have a need to acquire ascended gear for purposes other than the only place were you actually do need the gear.

Forgive me if I’m being ignorant or bothersome, but which statistical advantage are you speaking of, dear friend?

I might not be the most well-informed player, but I am relatively certain that these items are statistically identical.

Prior to anyone actually making an legendary and what we drew from Beta, Legendaries were under the idea they had a minor stat increase in their stats (similar to what ascendant gear has to exotics atm).

I don’t get you people- the complaint on these forums for months surrounding precursors was the ridiculous RNG attached to the precursor from the mystic forge.
The solution Anet saw fit was to throw precursors at people in a one time event (RNG).
This is not smart- it is extremely stupid and you only have to head over to the crafting forum to see that people with a bankroll are buying them up for cheap and expect fully to control the market in another week.
So stop.
Read the suggestion forum, there are plenty of ways over there to address precursors.
Those ideas do not involve the Lotto.
Also the rest of the world does not live in the US so keep your politics out of this discussion.
You may not agree with the OP, but enough with the name calling.
Also just stop with saying this is the nature of MMo’s , “oh you are so naive”
- you are, for being conditioned to think like that

Stop being so naive. You say people control the market at higher amounts of money is ridiculous. You really think people who HAVE the money actually BUY precursors out at 400? Of course not. That’s a ridiculous thought in itself.

I’ll split it off to you number wise. First off, the basics of any economy is supply vs demand. The price can not be controlled as long as the ability to enter the market is fairly easy, and it is. Anyone with dumbluck can get a precursor and not everyone is in it to control the market.

The price of precursors and the result of how much gold people actually have vs the amount of precursors available.

In the last patch they updates the chances of getting precursors from a few ways RNG. This results in a higher supply of the precursors. In addition, with the ban of Gold Sellers/Buyers recently, there will be a decrease in overall money in the game.

Both would result in prices for precursors to go down as less people would buy precursors at a higher price and more precursors are available. In addition, the huge spike of precursors result in an even lower price for precursors because of the large supply.

What does that mean? Unless someone has the ability to predict the prices via unknown percent increases in the Mystic Forge and the actual number of precursors in the market currently, it would be close to impossible to control the market at any stable price for a very long time.

It’s a good short term fix. As for the long term fix, ANet has already announced they are working on a way to make precursors not so RNG.

There is a difference between making personal info public on forums and adding a new tier set of gear that quite frankly is a minor upgrade. Not only that but only two pieces are even available.

Next thing you know people will start complaining about losing the lottery.

Some people got lucky and some people didn’t If you actually watched the markets like some people did, the amount of precursors supplied even during the crash doesn’t even amount to 1% of the general population.

What does that mean? There was a general increase of about 10-15 precursors per precursor or an increase of about 100% supplied. Regionally. For all of NA. That means in the thousands of people playing, maybe about 150 got a precursor. That’s a VERY small amount. Hell you still have better chances to get a precursor from the mystic forge then that event.

If you’re gonna complain about rewards being unfair due to the RNG nature of MMOs, you are better off not playing MMOs and better off playing singleplayer games.

No. Anet don’t give people something they knew as a one time event. Everyone knew this would occur once and should have prepared as such.

If you cater to those who chose to do something else other than play the game, it’s a slap to the face of those who actually did give up something.

I’m not from WoW. I complained because:

1. My timezone. Event is like 4am to me.
2. I was happy that the event repeats in several hours. But when I finally did it, I got disconnected during the last part wherein we’re about to kill the thing. No, I didn’t get any loot, at all.
3. Did it again, but the new build came so… nope, never got another chance again.
4. Actually, I didn’t really want to bother about one time events BUT… They’re giving the chance to get a “PRECURSOR” and sure loot of a 20 slot bag in this One Time Event.

It’s kinda unfair to those who can’t attend due to timezones (work/school/other RL responsibilities). Some got the chest twice in the same account, while most didn’t even have any loot at all.

1. This is an NA Server. It was advertised as NA. It kinda sucks don’t it? At any rate you could have woken up early or slept late.
2. The repeats should have never happened in the first place.
3. Read 2.
4. You weren’t at the event. You did not complete it like everyone else. Why should they accommodate you?

And while it’s unfair to those would can’t attend, it also sucks for those who couldn’t but made time to.

Hell look at Halloween. It happened during a major storm that affected most of the east coast of US. Did you hear them moaning as hard as people are now? Nope. And they had a legitimate reason to complain.

GW1 servers were also labelled NA/KR/International and yet all events repeated every 3 hours. Any explanation? This is the same developers who made the game!

Cept GW2 does not have any International Servers. It’s strictly labeled EU and NA. I dunno how else to be more clear other than to tell you, the game is not going to be catered to you. As clearly labeled. On the servers.

What abt ppl who lagged too much to play p3?

Good for you Aleaf.8174 that you are happy with the incomplete game you paid for back in August. That’s not the concert I paid for.

I expect Anet to do a better job, and any defects in their game be fixed promptly. Because if things are left shoddy, Anet would not see my money for future expansion packs.

The cost for the seemingly “free content” we just got isnt’ actually free. The cost of it has already been calculated in the initial box price, or, will be recouped later. Nothing is free boy. We all pay the price at some point, so stop dancing around over this mystical free stuff.

Except you didn’t pay for anything past release in august. You did not know content existed or not. No one did. Did you know we’d have multiple events coming up? It’s possible to speculate and expect it, but actually KNOWING there’d be content is a whole different story.

Was this content written out on the box somewhere? Or on the manual? Or posted on the forums when the game was released? Is there some form of list missing?

Did you KNOW the Karka event would happen? Are you a wizard?

Yeah you’re just as ridiculous as everyone else complaining about an event that was emphasized, advertised and executed as a ONE TIME EVENT that no one knew we’d get awesome rewards for, despite it being 3 hours long. It was only AFTER we found out we got awesome stuff people started complaining. People who stayed with the event and did the whole thing, giving up what they had to do.

I know a handful of people who took some time off for this. Wouldn’t suddenly letting this event run multiple times be a slap to them? Wouldn’t they be mad as it was falsely advertised?

So do yourself a favor and start asking yourself “Do I deserve to get such awesome loot? Or am I just self entitled because I worked about 3 hours at my job to pay for this game that I have more than ~150 hours logged on?” Forget that most games where you pay $60 comes with less content than this. Forget that most games don’t even have events on this scale.

I’m gonna go with no. Why should Anet schedule events around everyone? If you got tickets to a free concert and you can’t make it because of your schedule, would you complain about not getting to see it?

And I have no idea how fail your group was but the event ended for me by 2:30 PST. And they never said it was a “1 hour Event.” If you actually READ the post, it’s a “Multi Hour Event.” Multi generally means 2+ hours.

And lastly, you made your choice over doing something IRL or playing the game. Everything has an opportunity cost. You made your choice.

Except it’s not a free concert.

Except it is a free concert. You paid for the game content that was released on August. You are not paying a monthly subscription. You didn’t even know this event would happen when the game came out.

If we were all paying a monthly then yeah, I’d think it’d be appropriate to help those who had problems with the game. This however is FREE content. Think of it as free DLC that so many other games love to charge you for.

No, it’s not a free concert. For you maybe, it is.

Some people support this game in ways other than subscriptions. I know I do. That and promoting the game, spreading word, getting others to start playing, etc.

Did you not buy something with those gems? Did you not get the extra bag/bank slots or the Halloween costumes or the Black Lion Keys? If so then you got exactly what you paid for. Don’t think just cuz you buy gems means you are a paying customer. You pay no subscription. You didn’t buy an expansion for this weekend or anything.

That is a pretty bogus argument. You could make the very same argument even for subscription based MMOs. The only thing your $15 a month in a sub based MMO guarantees you is continued access to the servers (whenever they happen to be up). Not content. They will continue to draw money even if they aren’t releasing a patch that month, or have no plans to release a patch ever again. So hey, if the content doesn’t work you have no right to complain. It’s like a free concert!

Cept you’re paying $15 a month PLUS the initial purchase of the game as opposed to what we did with ANet. We just paid a flat fee. Any extra purchase was on you.

And unfortunately that’s not how the business model works. No one would pay $15 a month for MMOs without constant content releases. If people did, you’d see a lot more subscription based games.

Yea nobody is going to be buying gems and expansions for a game that doesn’t do any content releases either. So what is your point? In neither case are you directly paying for content. But in either case they better release content on a regular basis if they want to continue to make any money off the game. Otherwise people will lose interest and stop playing. Then they won’t get any money no matter which model they are using. The model has nothing to do with it. Either way people have a right to complain about broken content.

No one buys gems for content releases. You buy gems for the cool things from the Gem Shop. There’s a difference. I haven’t had to spend gems on a content release. Did you pay gems for this weekend event? Where was this? I never had to do it.

It also seems rather weird to pay the price of a single player game and demand regular updates and working content and catering for a subscription based game.

They should have had bracketed times, AND POST THEM, for 24 hours so groups would be able to get filled. I got into some of the latter ones and their were almost too few doing them.

Anet’s biggest problem is a lack of communication during events like this. People NEED time tables so they can schedule and please for love of god post estimated times of completion. The Ancient Karka event took way too long and it ran into IRL schedules. If you can’t give a rough estimate of when an event will be completed then you didn’t test it enough and thus it shouldn’t be put in live servers. Make a program that runs the event with the maximum amount of players before releasing it.

I 100% agree….people need times for the REAL LIVES….and there needs to be MANY events Occurring over and over for the maximum benefit to all players….and 1 TIME time chest deal….you get that thing 1 time your done….let those of us who haven’t gotten it have our chance. During my 1st attempt at noon PST….it was 4pm by the time the next part of the event was starting and I had to leave to do something important….I had no clue i would be sitting in game playing for that long for a in quote “1 hour Event” my RL kicked in and i realized I couldn’t believe i had been at this for 3 hours already…..

VERY frustrating

And was this event so awesome? Was it worth it for Anet to piss off so many of it’s player base? Anet could’ve easily designed it so that many many more could’ve enjoyed it. But they didn’t.

And this isn’t a free concert. We paid for the ticket. People, please stop getting fooled by the notion of free content update, because it isn’t. The cost for the update has already been factored in.

Incorrect. You did NOT pay for the ticket. You paid for the game that came with a free ticket. You got your game. Your game was all content released in August.

A concert involves REAL LIVING PEOPLE. NPCS aren’t that! Events are automated! How do people even consciously compare this to real life without comparing every other aspect like automation and actual life?

I think you’re missing the point. They had a scheduled time event that was announced plenty for everyone. I had no questions as what to do. If I did, I just checked the 1 of 900 posts on the internet. It was announced ahead of time so those who wanted to participate can plan around it. If you can’t, then you made your choice. You chose your work, girlfriend/boyfriend, father, son, etc over doing the event that was emphasized to be only 1 time.

Everything has an opportunity cost and you are NOT entitled to anything.

Disconnect-at-the-end-of-Lost-Shores-Event-Read-this

… If this is anything to go by, only people who were at the final boss will get a reward, which is fair enough. But what about hundreds of others like me, who never even got to that part because we were all foolishly repeating the event chain in vain for hours, over and over and over again in several overflows after being either disconnected or having our game crash? I WISH I could have gotten to the boss, I TRIED my hardest to for hours, but it just didn’t work out for me. I hope people in my situation will also get some consideration from Anet.

That depends at what time you were attempting it? Were you attempting it at the allocated time of 12noon PST or were you trying it through one of the bugged rehash attempts on different overflows?

Mad Mems: only for high level characters

Total length of Halloween event = 10 days.
Time needed to level character from 1 to 80 from a fresh start = 7 days.
Time needed to level character from 1 to 80 if you already have crafting mats for cheap XP = 1 day.

I’m not sure I see the problem?

Then don’t see the problem if you don’t want to. Do I tell you how you should enjoy the game? If you enjoy skipping all the content and rushing to the end so you can get out of PvE as soon as possible that’s your choice.

I like to play and enjoy the game the way I think it was intended: fighting the mobs you’re supposed to fight (like the champion spider at book 6), figuring out the puzzles (like the pressure plate one which I didn’t get to enjoy on my first char because it was already solved) and exploring the maps. I’m not interested in spoiling a $60 A title in 7 days, having friends baby me through challenges, looking up all the solutions and directions on the web and then moving on to whatever title comes out next month.

I spent literally thousands of hours playing GW1 over the years, and I expect to spend a lot of time in GW2, so I’m in no rush to get to level 80 — my chars are levels 45, 35, 39, 30, and 43 on my main account and 8, 6, 12, 7 and 9 on my mule account, and I’ve played 372 hours on the main account over 58 days. I haven’t explored Harathi with any chars yet.

What I was originally complaining about was that we weren’t told that this quest was not designed for levels 1-15. That’s not to claim you can’t get through it as a level 9, even solo/naked, but you can’t tell me that was the dev’s intent. I think they intended that the quest be too hard for levels 1-15, yet they advertised the quest to everyone in LA and make it seem like it’s going to be 100% no combat at first.

I don’t expect or want all the parts of the special event to be appropriate for all levels, or all the awards to be stuff we all get, I just think they should make it clear what’s what before you spend time on something you aren’t intended to be able to complete.

Is it really to much to ask that they put a level number on the event like they do for every other event in the game?

You got the first book no? Then there’s your reward. You went as far as your level could carry you. The higher level book is for players of higher levels(Hence the stats on it).

And lastly, the game has been out for two freaking months. How are you not at least lvl 40 yet?

And I don’t think ANet should have to explicitly say with huge font that X Event is for X Level. Go figure it out yourself. You have a brain and a heartbeat no?

What server needs Americans/EST people?

Sea of Sorrows could use American players. It’s not as bad as it used to be but we still barely have enough players.

They transferred mid-day to a server we are in direct competition with. Before their transfer, they were camping GoM bl and refusing to fight, basically so they could then transfer and take any gains GoM made back for SoS. They’ve also had spies in WvW reporting TC movements to SoS after the transfer. We aren’t upset that they have left. We’re outraged at their total lack of integrity, at the way they blatantly exploited game mechanics, at the disgusting two-faced bs they’ve been spewing (because while Cayden is all sweet and non-confrontational here, in TC /team chat he’s arrogant and beligerent.)
And yes, we’re just a bit frustrated that you’re accepting this pariah into your world “with open arms.” It’s your loss, our gain. Consider yourselves warned.

Gonna have to call BS on this. As an NA player, I haven’t seen any “spying” on SoS in the Team chat reports. We barely have the numbers let alone spy connections during the day.

Why does TC win during the day? Cuz as an Oceanic server, we have no NA people.
What happens when we get a decent amount of people? We send TC running like the other night when we were outmanned 3v1 and pushed to our gate yet we got a small group out, took golanta and jerrifers while fighting off your zerg and successfully capping everything back in our area.

Now I’m all for smack talk but keep the insults and finger pointing to a minimum. Does Defiance have a past? Prolly. Do we care on SoS? Nope. We need BODIES. If we can get bodies we can easily paint a different picture. Like TC bodies. Everywhere.

SoS NA member here. It’s good to see us get some NA crowd. We have a strong Oceanic crowd that I run with at night and we even managed to push back some TC crowds before the Oceanic crowd joined, despite outnumbered.

At nights, SoS decimates but during the day, we literally drop to maybe 20 or so total people in each borderland, maybe less since this is an unofficial oceanic server.

Stability "must have" skills

I just wisch you guys are right but you probably dont get my point.
Yes, i know other abilities that can guarantee you a stomp or at least make your chances “higher”.
But they have their counterpart.
Thief finishing from stealth? = use your AOE knocback
Blinding your enemy and then ressing your teammate? = blind is “next attack” so just one autotatack and then hit your interupt. Or cleanse the blind
There is only few ablilities that doesnt have counterpart – like ele´s mist form. But thats once per 90 sec? With that hudge CD its not even comparable to stability.
Yes, i can strip stability – because it is boon! But count it – howmany skills do we have in game that are REMOVING boons? 4-5? Only on specific classes. And if you do it that way you still need to remove boon first and after land your interupt.
So at this point – im only saying that due to the important nature of stability and easy access that Guardian has to it (no other class can even think about stability with 30 sec CD) and with combination with their others defensive ability.. its going to be a must have class and preferably 2x in team.
Well, maybe im blind but i see the 2x guards teams running every day and more and more offten. Maybe im wrong – but we will see that in time.

Thieves, warriors, engineers and rangers can insta stomp most classes with their Quickness skills. I’ve seen them stomp necros before the necro can cast fears.

And I think it makes sense since Guardians lack in other things many classes have: Higher base HP Pools, Offensive Group Buffs, Good Ranged Set, Offensive Debuffs, etc.

Oh and correct me if I am wrong but my friend told me if he stealths as a thief, the AoE knockbacks guardians have do not interrupt him.

Currently run that build. I use the Greatsword mostly and switch to the Hammer for utility.

My gear is mostly Power Condition and Vitality though I want to switch to Power Precision and Vit/Toughness.

I essentially use my shouts to keep me up on the front lines with small regen health and protection so I can pretty much tank most auto attacks. I dodge roll whenever I have full endurance for the small AoE heal.

For the elites, I switch between books depending on what I feel we need.

The build relies on the target to be burning at all times by using your F1 on CD when you’re in range of your whole party. Using this applies a 35 second burn on the target with the right food and stats. The burn ticks for a nice amount of damage while also increasing your overall damage.

This works well for me on both soloing and grouping. I would not recommend it for PvP though.
