What you describe is how passes have always worked. You get kicked out of the area upon re-logging. Only one character can occupy the ‘convenience area’ at a time.

Your suggestion is nice. Maybe, some day, ArenaNet will implement it, but doubtful any time soon. I am sure selling more passes would be more profitable than not, and it really isn’t any different than the Account-bound Infinite Gathering Tools.

I suspect they’d sell more tickets if people actually perceived the item as a convenience. Rather than banking on a slim hope that people who buy one ticket will then go on to buy multiple tickets to overcome this unnecessary issue.

I think the main convenience is being able to port to the Terrace or Airship from anywhere in the world. At least, that’s why I use it. It is especially convenient now that LA is no longer accessible in its pre-damaged state. For me, anyway. =)

You can already do that anyway, the exact same way you did it previously with lion’s arch.

The captain’s ship ticket in it’s present state doesn’t feel the most convenient of items. While it is as item that lets you port to a convenient mini city in the sky. Should you wish to then deposit that ticket in your bank and change to another character. This character is kicked from the ship upon relogging. Meaning you will then have to run to the bank to reclaim your ticket every time you change characters. By comparison if you simply decided to log out next to a bank or crafting station, you will never have this repeated issue every time you change characters.

This seems contrary to the very nature of using such an item for convenience. Where exactly is the convenience supposed to come from? That you have slightly closer npcs? The grove actually has most of its marketplace, bank and crafting stations within roughly the same distance of each other. (Maybe a little longer for some npcs but it’s barely noticeable.)

While I find the idea of items like this intriguing, in it’s current incarnation it’s flawed and lackluster.

My suggestions to fix this:
Add the ticket to the achievement items so you can create a new one on demand. Very few people will buy more than one ticket anyway and this instantly solves the issue of people who ‘accidentally’ lose their ticket without having to visit the support forums.

Well Elona has a villain who is far superior to Scarlet – Palawa Joko.
But as for Villains in Tyria, I don’t think they have to top Scarlet. Something can still pose a threat and not be quite as dangerous as her – a threat is still a threat. It’s not like we’ll go – oh well Scarlet was harder to beat than them so lets just not bother.

Isn’t that the explanation for why almost all of Tyria ignored Scarlet for a year until she destroyed Lion’s Arch? People defended the story by saying she’s not an Elder Dragon, the Orders, the different races, the Pact, Destiny’s Edge – they all have more important things to do than deal with Scarlet. It was a very small cast of characters (that became most obvious during Marionette) that bothered to pay attention to Scarlet. The Orders and other forces in Tyria had a token presence, but for the most part people were ignoring her.

I agree Palawa Joko is a superior villain to Scarlet, but in terms of effectiveness (I don’t believe Scarlet’s list of accomplishments are believable in the scope of Tyria, they relied on convenience and stupidity) Scarlet has everyone beat. It’s a real problem that exists in Tyria now.

We have to move forward knowing that Scarlet did what a primordial force tried and failed to do and we have not one alliance, but three with superior technology that outclasses what came before it.

Do you have this list handy? I am curious to see how she stacks up against other GW villains.

I only saw players foolish enough to ignore Yuki Honescrest’s warning by crossing into tengu territory in the middle of a war zone. Players who were not fleeing Lion’s Arch but rather they were part of a military presence in the area. They were also of the same races that were attacking the city (a city the tengu had no allegiance to). So from the tengu perspective, two warring factions (it could even be perceived as a civil war), neither of which they aligned with, were fighting outside their front door. They shoot anyone who gets too close to that door.

I saw no tengu arrow strike down a fleeing survivor seeking refuge.

These excuses wouldn’t fly in the real world, I fail to see why they should because “They are tengu”.

They also have no way of telling if you are a survivor, combatant or enemy. Since they obviously kill you, one can only extrapolate that they either cannot tell or are attacking indiscriminately.

I feel Arenanet backed themselves into a narrative corner when they wrote the six dragons into existence. Because by their very nature these dragons that are presented as omnipotent forces of nature are very very dull villains. They have unrelatable goals and their villainous nature is so on a scale beyond humanity that, to us they are like humans peering down at ants.

The real question is whether they can follow Zhaitan with a better story revolving around a dragon. And then do it 4 more times after that, without them feeling like flavour of the week (expansion) dragonlords.

We’re just trying to breathe some life into our characters. If it resonates with people, then we’re happy. If not, then it means we try something different.

This makes me a little sad to see, but please bobby correct me if I am misinterpreting it.

Modern media struggles with being heavily hetero centric due to the very nature of the issue. There are less homosexuals than heterosexuals and when you are trying to sell a product, you appeal to the larger audience as default.

But this doesn’t necessarily make a good story and it certainly doesn’t lend itself to a creative environment that can create meaningful and realistic characters and situations.

In my experience as a person, moments like the moment of peace aren’t that unusual. Rarely when two humans interact do they preform oscar winning dialogue. Usually it is awkward, it’s two humans clumsily trying to connect.

And the idea that you might not have included this interaction between Kasmere and Marjory because it didn’t resonate with majority just doesn’t sit right with the writer in me.

Too often is creativity stifled because it won’t appeal to the right demographic, so I truly hope that isn’t what you meant.

I thought about how to solve this insular/silently exclusive issue and I came up with the flood gate concept that follows.

When the CDI beings everyone is allocated one post. At any time however the CDI project leader (person overseeing the CDI) can press a button to unleash the next post allocation upon the masses. (You may only have one at a time, no stacking)

The idea is to to give everyone an equal voice while also giving the devs time to read and respond to everything they feel they want to before opening the flood gates for the next wave of discussion.

Think of it as a turn based CDI.

Obvious misdirection is obvious…

Everything in this poem is just vague enough to possibly relate to something while equally being simply metaphor.

I wouldn’t be shocked if this poem is just meaningless drivel designed to get people in a speculation hype.

I don’t think Arenanet’s writers are that stupid to basically tell you what is coming so obviously as this. That would kill any remaining suspense and interest left in people and just lead to a disappointing… “Oh…” at the reveal.

So it’s probably not the most obvious of the possibilities.

Here’s the problem: You have a 360 range for that might, meaning that you either need a full melee stacked group or you need to make sure that everyone in the group stays very close (Staff eles, Grenade engis, etc.) even though they can hit from farther away.

Once again you are focusing on one singular element of venomancy, rather than the whole.

Personally I cannot say I ever have such range issues except on fights like Lupicus, granted it takes more skill to use venomancer than other fire and forget support classes but the range isn’t an issue if you have spatial awareness.

Even when range is an issue, venomancy remains valuable to those you can hit with it. 10 might for 32 seconds, 6562 true damage and 12218 healing plus additional benefits per person you buff is excellent support.

Dungeon/Fractals build for the Thief

in Thief

Alice.8694

Venoms, unfortunately, are terrible support for dungeons.

If you look at venoms solely for the debuffs they cause, you are missing the point entirely.

This venomancer build offers 32 seconds of might, meaning it only has a downtime of 4 seconds. Should you wish you can event tweak the spec to make it 100% uptime of 10 stacks of might.
Every venom stack augments that persons next strike with 386 bonus true damage and heal for 506. (+904)

Assuming everyone gets venom;
(17×386)x5 is 32810 damage every 36 seconds
You can also choose to trait +1 venomstrikes; (22×386)x5 which is 42460 every 36 seconds
This doesn’t include might bonuses of course.

You also have the option at any time to roll out slowed pulse for reduced deception cooldown time and swap out a venom for smoke screen for projectile denial and ranged blind.

Thieves are decent enough offensive support but weak on the defensive support. You can swap the chill venom for smokescreen when needed. You lose about 50% of your damage potential for party healing on hit and 20 second (+60%) might buffs.

It’s not ’’claiming’’. This isn’t a black and white subject. I’ve never once said that you should share ones opinion. I said that you should take these opinions in consideration when it comes to armor design and that therefor, to me, it is a poor design choice.

Also this wouldn’t seem like the best way to express freedom of sexuality or artistic endeavours much. There’s way better ways. So your argument doesn’t hold much ground.

Putting aside that you haven’t even made an argument as to why it isn’t acceptable. The point of a freedom of expression and artistic license is that you don’t get to judge what is and isn’t in your own words “the best way” to express it, as it is a freedom and what would be the point.

I like the way you try to arrogantly railroad over your opposition by simply claiming they are wrong. But frankly you lack the substance to even form an argument, let alone counter the one I just posed.

You lose, good day sir.

I’m just going to repeat myself.

It is not about personal opinion. It is about opinions being well based on arguments.
Whether that is my view on this armor does not matter. Simply because these opinions can be formed and actually hold solid ground they are valid for judging whether this design is or is not misplaced in the game. It is not about me personally having such an opinion.

Then it is only normal to take these opinions into consideration when judging whether or not the armor is justifyable. I’ve expressed several opinions on well based arguments so that you can take them into consideration on whether or not the armor should be in the game. Others have also posted arguments as to why such an armor is sub-standard. Again, I’ve only given opinions to show how people can think about this armor. This is not about what I think, and it shouldnt be about your personal opinion either. This is about the issue that this armor raises for people. And then you should ask yourself whether or not a small alteration is justifyable to solve it.

I hope you realise repeatedly saying you’ve made an argument doesn’t make it so. You haven’t in anyway justified why you think this armor is… In your own words un"justifiable" you have merely claimed that because you think it is not, therefore it is not.
This is not an argument.

So here… I am going to do you a favor by giving you a counter argument.

Claiming this armor is unjustifiable is an oppressive attack towards freedom of expression, freedom of sexuality and freedom of artistic expression

Your move.

Based on the following site: http://www.gw2armor.com/human/female/medium_list.php (I am aware this list is out of date, but it’s late and it frankly doesn’t change my point much even if it were.)

23 Medium Armor sets are listed.
Of that 23 only 4 pieces show any unnecessary skin.
Of those 4 only 2 could be considered risque.

2 out of 23… Let that sink in for a moment. Sunk? Good, now you too are aware of how trivial this non-issue is.

( Bonus Fact: Only 12 are actually trench-coats or variations of that style. Meaning you still have 11 sets of gear to choose from that are not trench-coats. )

This would give a lot of people peace of mind, Bobby, I hope you respond: is the end of Scarlet’s arch already on its way?

I mentioned this elsewhere on the forums, but I’ll say it here again. There is an end to the Scarlet story that has been planned out. I’m not at liberty to discuss release dates or the timeline, though.

Just to do a little bit of Sherlocking here Bobby…

If the plot is 4 months out of date due to development times.

And in your own words… “There is an end to the Scarlet story that has been -planned- out.”

Can I successfully deduce from this that you just slipped that the end hasn’t been developed yet and is still therefore within the planning stages. And by the 3 to 4 month delay implied above… This means that there is the potential for at least 5 more months worth of scarlet content to come.

Scarlet is a class of villain who once glimpsed perfection and thinks she can achieve it, even if it means undoing the universe destroying everything in the process. She’s basically became a tiny god where we can’t quite defeat her permanently but she enjoys the game too much to put us down permanently either.

So in other words she’s the joker.

Wants to be at least…

I wish whenever someone tried to make a villain like joker, batman would descend, give them a firm slapping and tell them no… You cannot out do the joker, please stop trying.

…Alas, batman doesn’t provide house calls.

What happened to Meta Events telling stories through Dynamic Events? This concept seems to have been entirely dropped within the living world in favour of a small variety of singular dynamic events. The meta-events did a great job of giving context to an area while telling mini stories. By comparison these singular events feel detached and certainly not alive.

I think this raises an interesting question, what do you consider to be “temporary” content, and what qualifies (in your mind) as content that occurs and drives the living story forward it makes sense to have go away, vs. that which remains?

Could you not simply create a fractal within the fractals of the mists that relives past chapters of the plot? All the plot mechanics are already in place to allow you to relive the past. And you have the added bonus that you create more content for the players out of the history of the living story.

This is a repost due to the original being deleted by a moderator for having formatting in it. (Apparently using the tools the forum gives you to neaten up your post so it’s easy to read and follow is against the rules.)

Looking back at scarlet I’d like to give my ideas on how you could have presented Scarlet well. I’m not the best of writers but I think this is a good outline for how you could have completely retained everything you have presently and yet still presented her in a way that would interest and appeal to players.
Prologue: Foreshadowing.

Scarlet’s npc appears 3 patches before the flame and frost in one of the Asura colleges. Every patch that follows, she appears in a different college. While she has lines and speaks to the professors, she is an NPC with no name.

Chapter 1: The flame and frost!

The final achievement for the flame and frost is to team up with the pact in a slim hope of discovering the mastermind behind this unholy alliance. Working with a priory Asura and his snazzy new invention: The snoop-a-tron 2000 (name pending) he is able to project your vision into the mists into a piece of the past and into the vision of the person setting up the pact.

You now play as scarlet as you beat down the Charr and Dredge, earning their alliance and forging the pact. But the person you play as is presented as nothing more than a placeholder shadow, there is no clear model and there is no voice. The only thing you can discern from this is that they are a engineer wielding Asuran weaponry.

Chapter 2: Aetherblade Pirates

Once Mai is captured our Asuran scholar has the idea of using his snoop-a-tron on Mai to see how the Aetherblade were formed. Once again we take the position of Scarlet as the Aetherblade are launched from their Skydocks. Hinting more about the character and their intentions based on what the npcs around you say to Scarlet. But still leaving the model a vague shadow and voice silent.

At this point we’ve not only witnessed the forming of these armies and hints that they are connected but not only that we’ve been allowed to be the very one who did it. We’re suddenly a lot more invested in seeing how this ends.
Always remember, show don’t tell.

Chapter 3: The Queen’s Jubilee

At the final event, your Asuran scholar friend drags you aside… The machine is picking up readings on it’s own. Whoever it has become attuned to is somehow nearby. Despite the danger, this opportunity is not to be wasted and you don the device again.

This time though you take the place of Scarlet as she begins faithful voyage into the madness. As you slowly get closer to the vision she sees in the eternal alchemy, the shadowy model presenting her fades away to reveal the Sylvari Scarlet. The machine overloads and you toss it aside as the game cuts to Scarlet’s dramatic stage entrance at the jubilee.

The Asura we’ve known for the last 3 chapters, gives us the low down on who she is. He is now a trustworthy source and yet not an already established hero, allowing for him to gush without going too over the top. He explains why the machine was drawn to attuning to her, she helped make it. And this ties her, full circle back to the colleges in Rata Sum.

As for those complaining that the female phalanx isn’t identical to the male phalanx. I have some bad news for you. The male phalanx is so generic you can pretty much put it together by mixing and matching the armor sets above. The only thing really unique is the shoulders and helmet. You can get the shoulder design from the female set, so really you’re down to simply complaining that you don’t get the helmet. A fair complaint… The female helmet looks stupid.

End of the day, Female characters actually got a new armor design and males just got more of the same.

I understand you feeling angry, however I personally only risk what I am willing to lose. If I am not willing to risk wasting 4000 gems on what I know is RNG….then I won’t buy those gems. There is an element of responsibility here too. That said, I do think ANet is capable of coming up with a system that guarantees a ticket….through individual effort, rather than RNG.

Two things.
Not really angry… More so utterly disappointed with Arenanet, that they are employing what is basically some of the worst free to play cash shop mmo practices. As I said in my first post, I expected better from them. And a lot of the good will they had built up with me has been burnt for what is essentially one stack of gems that I have had since release. Had they been more sensible with their coffers I might have spent future cash on their silly gambles. However £42, regardless of when i purchased the gems is a considerable amount to spend on nothing and I do not intend on supporting such a system.

Secondly I do not see this as a shirking of my personal responsibility. I had the gems to burn and I burnt them.
However had the store page said… only there’s a 10% chance of getting a jade ticket… I wouldn’t have purchased any. Instead they merely inform you of a greatly increased chance of getting one. These words are essentially meaningless unless you know the figures. I made my purchase decision based on previous weapons in the cash shop. The winter ones, which I think were 800 gems each. And thus i expected that the drop rate for a jade ticket would be sufficient to potentially get you a ticket one in every 800 gems.

If I go to a casino and lose money is it the CASINOS fault or mine?

Except that a casino is clearly a casino, while this is a video game (and not a casino themed video game).

The point isn’t the location, the point is the player is choosing to buy an item that grants a chance at receiving a desirable reward. Would buying a raffle ticket from a fair be a better example?

Tach your idea of cool is the one I wish more people had, cool being what you like. There are however tons of people that do want that “status symbol” item, something that sets them apart.

I for one would have been hugely in favor of having a weapon ticket reward from the celebration, maybe change the shattered wings to your choice of the wings OR a weapon ticket… As for the don’t get one thing, why not just do a buy a 20 pack and we give you 1 ticket with it…

It’s really quite simple…

I am not asking for my money back or a jade ticket.
I am however saying that I do not expect to pay 4000 gems worth of real money and potentially get nothing of value. The rich coffers jade ticket rarity is clearly high enough that this has happened to quite a few people, implying this is the intention and not the exception. (Though more data would be nice). I do not intend to support this game again until this practice ceases because i do not believe this is the kind of practice I want to support.

Essentially, what you are saying is meaningless to me, the point of my post and needlessly derails the conversation to a blame game rather than whether such business practices are acceptable. Which is what the conversation should be about,

Why buy something you know is a gamble if it’s going to make you mad if you don’t win?

Yes, yes of course it’s the players fault that there is a mechanic that allows you to literally throw away cash for nothing of worth or value.

My bad for assuming Arenanet were better than that. Don’t worry, i won’t make that mistake twice.

Honestly I purchased some jade coffers because I expected better of Arenanet than literally receiving nothing of value or note out of 4000 gems.

If this is what I can expect of Arenanet in the future. Burning £42 worth of gems for literally nothing, I shant be spending money on gems until they drop the RNG focused cash shop system.

Pretty much burned away a lot of the good will Arenanet had earnt themselves with me.

Hmm if it is not a premade then you would assume the matchmaking system would scramble these teams a few times to get a good average score.

The higher team all had pretty consistent tournament sets and weaponry, I was the only one in the lower side with any…

But the system just pulled this premade group against this solo queue group. (See the image, names removed to abide by the forum rules.)

Going solely by the accumulated karma levels gained, that’s a collective 144 vs 84… A 60 level disparity.

And I would love to know how the matchmaking system can throw a level 1 against what was basically a steamroll premade group.

I can’t imagine this is any fun for either side and a total waste of time for the players on the solo queue side.

A simple solution would be an “opt out of facing premades” function. And then if people want to get steamrolled by deliberately unfair matchups that’s their choice.

Really there is no excuse for the fight being so poor…

I agree that fighting him toe to toe and killing him manually with tiny weapons would have been a little bizarre. But I figured out a middle ground that would have made the end boss battle just as epic.

So everything proceeds as it does now and rather than fall from the tower, the dragon of undeath leaps onto the glory of tyria’s hull and starts to drag it down with him. His last defiance against his would be slayers. What begins now is the final fight to hack away at his arms, which are weakened from the endless barrage to cut him from the side of the ship before he successfully drags you down with him.

There’s really no justification why this couldn’t be in game and it would immensely increase the value and feeling of the final boss.

A few basic problems with nerfing glass cannons:

FIRST that would make every dungeon and encounter shift to the uber lame tank and spank while the meat head qqs for heals, the dps draws aggro and dies and the healers swear… all calling eachother stupid. Its a lame system no matter how many “mechanics” they add to try and spice it up, which is why Anet built GW2 as it is.

Second: To the idea of a “balanced” character… WRONG. I’m sorry, but if you or your party can’t dodge a red circle or equip and USE a skill to block/reflect/dodge the nasty attacks, it really is a learn to play issue. It just takes time, especially for new people who are used to turning off their brain and rolling their heads on the keyboard in tank and spanks… In fact, it is a bit more akin to the speed and style of FPS games.

Last: Anet also designed the boss fights (apparently with the notable exception of Zhaitan, and a couple others) to be hard, and fast… which suggests outright and means in practice that you have to lay on the hurt and kill it in 2-5 minutes or risk getting stomped by that boss’s 10-20 second recharge 1 shot skill… as opposed to spending an hour to kill 1 fool where the only danger is that somebody wipes the whole shebang by jumping into the wrong colored circle at the 59th minute.

As for meta group functions, the ones who don’t put out the massive dps have other things typically that make up for it… Mesmers casting AoE quickness, any number of classes who stack vulnerability (20+ stacks makes it go fast), or give reflection, spot heals, CCs, etc… there are ways around the whole glass cannon thing without having to shred the whole concept.

also several posters pointed out and i agree that your statement about having finished all the dungeons and paths, and are now wanting the way nerfed was extremely selfish looking.

First, no it wouldn’t change the feel of the fights at all… But since you didn’t actually supply any justification for this, i’m not gonna even bother refuting it.

Second… What are you on about, what does a balanced build have to do with avoiding aoe? Are you even in the right thread?

“Lastly” the entire point of this observation is that most things other builds can bring are not as valuable as pure damage. Which was kinda the point you apparently missed entirely.

Finally… I find it hilarious that explaining I’ve got some experience in dungeons becomes a personality and character attack. That somehow making suggestions to improve dungeons makes me selfish. As if I’m going to stop doing dungeons now since i’ve seen them all and therefore won’t be affected by the suggestions I’m making… How pathetic a personal attack can you get? I enjoy playing dungeons, I still do several a day, despite needing no gear or wanting any tokens and would like the encounters to be more fun and interesting. I’d like other classes to be just as valuable with what they bring to a fight as the glass cannon is. And right now, I don’t see it… In fact if you can avoid damage as any other build but guardians, you can avoid it as a glass cannon too. Making a well played party of glass cannons > everything else.

My suggestion was the pvp suggestion, allow toughness to be able to be stacked enough to make a glass cannon worthless.

Please in future read the title and post of the thread, this is solely concerning the PvE aspect of glass cannons. If you want to discuss the PvP implications, make your own thread with that topic.

After leading a group from zero to dungeon master the main thing I’ve noticed is this: Glass Cannon damage is too high.

LOL
So, after you have complete all dungeons you said to Anet: ok, let’s nerf us?

No
way

We all wanna done and uber-farm all dungeons in the GC specs too

I’m not a glass cannon, sorry to ruin your little joke. These are my observations from taking a 5th wildcard pug member into an otherwise static organized group and how glass cannons effect a run compared to any other spec, including other forms of damage.

Problem is , whats good for PvE can be gamebreaking in Wv3.

Honestly crit damage seems just as big of an issue to wvwvw balance, to be honest. However I would really hope PvE is not balanced around an inherently imbalanced game mode such as WvWvW. That would be terrible.

I recently picked this up to round off my Tier 3 look, and I love the soft white light it projects, both in use and sheathed.
However, it’s then a bit strange to have its attacks rendered with the standard orange flames.
Would it be possible to make it so that attacks with this torch also use the white flame?

I imagine this will be unlikely since skills are supposed to look unique for each class, so you can quickly identify which class is using that move in combat.

Still I would like this too, it’s a nice idea.
