I see. The only thing I fear while that may be a good (or better?) way to learn is that if you die TOO much, you might as well just 4 man an instance haha (which I’ve done in the past…except it was 2 people constantly laying on the floor ._.). But I do get what you’re saying. I honestly wish there were a noobie guide around for basic things that’d help fresh 80s. Time to go forum digging. \o/

I’m curious as to what I should do gear wise since I’m on a budget. Right now, I want to use the 3/3 Assassins/Zerk build I saw in one of the sticky threads and run s/d and d/d but right now the Zerk part costs too much for me. I really prefer fractals (this is what I’m gearing up for/improving to climb higher in) but my zerk gear is only gold. I run this in 19 or lower fractals as I don’t have the AR (only 15 atm) or skill to survive in the level 29s I do (I admit, I’m bad and revert to my old ways and heal through most of everything ._. and I do them for the challenge and sheer fun). But more to the main point, should I just keep using this until I can get zerk/knight? And what are some inexpensive runes and sigils I can use until I can get the proper ones? Someone suggested the ogre ones I think for armor and I saw in a video (I can’t remember but I think it was the guy named Nemesis or something) about flame legion (?) being ok to have instead of the more expensive damage one.

Are there any general steps I should follow to being a decent dps? I’m open to daily routines as well although I do like to have fun (for some reason, TA is kind of boring compared to fractals).

Ah right! I thought about traits but for some reason neglected to even mention them haha. I guess I sort of tunneled on the armor part and forgot not only about the traits, but weapons as well.

In all honesty, I’ve been running into people that are just coming back to the game so their quite similar to me as in not being the cream of the crop so to speak and learning the ropes. I was heavily biased about the gear department but started trying new things and liking the numbers that came out (even with a mix of zerk rare gear and assassin exotics). Hell, I’m trying to figure out how the one dude (ok I know she’s a female from her video ._.) got that 49k fire grab…kinda wanna hit the big numbers myself.

@Digi, I’m glad to see someone else started in partial knights to learn. I’ve recommended that to 1 or 2 people as I knew from doing a fractal with them that they didn’t try to avoid red circles (even if you’re new to an instance, you usually try to avoid the “danger” signs) so that’s reassuring.

I honestly still find myself putting on cleric gear sometimes during parts I KNOW a group usually has trouble with but I switch to dps gear when I feel comfortable.

On a different note, are conditional builds in general bad for PvE? So far, I’ve noticed things die pretty fast depending on who’s experienced and such so that the DoT spells of say necros or eles wont be all that great but what about for longer fights?

Is there a point to other gear that isn’t Berserker being worth anything?

Mostly curiosity as to why I’m asking this question. So far, being fairly new to this game (playing a bit over 3 weeks now), I’ve been reading and following things and it seems that the majority of the player base don’t really care for any other way than the fastest. Now don’t get me wrong, although I haven’t been high level in this game very long, I have been high level in other games. I’ve ran certain content to the point of it just being a chore but I haven’t really encountered such a hard emphasis on 1 build.

And to answer what may come, nope, I am not kitten that I can’t really run what I want. I’m currently working on berserker gear now (prob will mystic forge cleric since it’s 99% useless) and trying to learn to stay alive in it (just need practice haha). I honestly wish there were a bit more diversity to pick from sometimes but I’m down to learn and what not so it makes dungeons easier for the vets.

What do the vets and new players feel about the current state of gear? Would you guys actually welcome more builds if the meta shifted that way for some, unforeseen reason?

Players are rewarded for knowing mechanics of enemies and bringing the bare minimum to stay alive, which doesn’t include any defensive stats on gear. You should be glad the game promotes active gameplay so much, and glad it doesn’t require passive defense like Sentinel’s gear.

But I never implied that I wasn’t happy with the game or in fact ask why I should be glad. Just making an obvious statement really. Sorry if what I posted was unclear!

Would you ever recommend support ele in any hard PvE content?

I got when my groups would hit it too much and they all would die but I wouldn’t. I think it’s like right before the max or something though. I run 0/0/2/6/6 full cleric/toughness though so I can just heal and mist form through it.

Ok this really isn’t meant to be a flame-bait or whatever but…why do a lot of people say this? I’m really confused to be completely honest lol. Is it skill rotations? Or using the wrong weapons or the lack of using skills or something?

Full zerk warriors insisting that everyone and their mom must wear zerk while not dodging skills and dying every 3 seconds.

Thieves that think it’s ok to try to solo bosses in fractals and seemingly not realizing that they’re paper.

Watching someone kill the mob we just spent 20 minutes explaining about why it isn’t killed then saying “oh lol I didn’t know” ……………..

2 Questions:

Are you 100% rep?

And what does “Female / LGBT / Everything friendly” mean? I have a guess but just asking for clarification.

Looking for a guild that doesn’t require 100% rep (not to say I won’t rep though) that has a fair amount of members running fractals. Currently, I run up to 29 with 15 AR and absolutely love the place. Would be nice to actually have a guild chat to ask in that replies with something other than “I hate fractals”.

I started this game 3 weeks ago and it literally took me 3 days to hit 80 doing mostly eotm and a little bit of crafting (I ran out of materials and cash around 250 or 300 haha). I think it just depends on your leader in EotM though.

i’ve started playing warrior when it was the worst class ever, and i just play the spec i like and have fun, i don’t care if i die a lot, i just play and practice to do better next time. eventually you will get better.

Explain to me how I have no patience? I didn’t just lose 1 match then felt useless. I came from a game where I played THE weakest class with 3 fps and still had fun. I just hated the feeling of being useless throughout a multitude of matches even though kills aren’t everything in sPvP lol

Thank you so much. I hate having to make a thread like this. I’ve played other games where I’ve gotten stomped but it was at least fun trying to fight back haha. For some reason in this game I’ve just been feeling helpless. I’ll definately try that build out and work on those combos!

This might be a qq thread…idk. I know I’m terrible at pvp and to be good at anything, you have to practice. But god, all I do is constantly die over and over in spvp. Staff isn’t working out I guess, s/d…I don’t think I know how to use it right, I guess I could try d/d again…but everything that looks at me just kills me. Mesmers’ spinny clone chunks my health, warriors jump and smash my face through the ground, necros loldot me to death, thieves go poof poof then bam 9k to the face. Archers kill me but at least I might have a bit of a chance. Guardians have been stomping me as well. And engi’s well…they kill me too. I know it isn’t my teams fault why I’m terrible though.

Where should I start as an elementalist?

Side note: One guy in one of my matches asked why a rank 11 was in the match as most of the players were like 60 or 70 in pvp ranks. Does this happen often or was I just unlucky?

Is this only possible as warrior or possible for any class? Er I should add, is it possible to solo lower fractals as any class as well?

Alrighty. So no matter how I look at it, healers are, for the most part, not as important as just being a damage dealer. I’ll start looking into other builds at least then. Thanks for all of the replies.

I had a falling out with my guild about your first statement. I do do more dps now but I just hate seeing people drop like flies as soon as I switch :/

Hi friends! I’m a sorta new-ish player (2 weeks now) and have settles completely on cleric elementalist build. After some running around and testing of my own, I’ve set my traits to 0/0/2/6/6 and love it so far.

I’m looking for any eles that specialize in healing higher level content involving but not limited to: Fractals (20-50), Arah, and other difficult content (compared to things like TA or what not).

- Should I be saving my dodge roll heals to combo with my water attunement switch heal?

- Should I save Healing Rain for when my party drops really low then A. Brilliance to blast it?

- Is there any rule of thumb for when it’s safe to switch out of water? I think I get paranoid that if I swap to something else, my team mates might die.

- Are there any well known/skilled healing eles I should know about? And are there any videos?

Hi friends!

I made this guild (today) for the sole purpose of networking for fractals. I’ve recently ran into the problem of not being able to find people to do fractals with in my old guild and it was a 100% rep guild. So I made my own! This way, you can just check the ranks of other members, pm them if they’re in your corresponding rank and hopefully have a buddy or three to do fractals with!

Rules are simple really:

- Just be kind. I don’t care if you don’t like jimmyjobob over there, just give proper respect if you have some sort of disagreement between yourself and a member and hopefully it’ll be resolved.

- Don’t inhale the guild bank. I don’t have it up yet (figuring out how to do that lol) but I’ll be slowly putting materials in there for the community’s use. Just don’t take it all.

- You don’t have to rep at all. This way, you can find your party then get the benefits from your main guild. I know some of us don’t enjoy ALWAYS having to LFG for people so hopefully this will relieve some of that.

- Anyone can invite!

- No racism or anything like that here.

- Anyone is welcomed! Although do note, some content might be 18+ unless it’s noted that someone’s child or something is in party/guild chat.

Can’t think of anything else atm. As for a bit about me, I started this game a little over 2 weeks ago so I’m still learning a lot of stuff. I run a heal spec staff ele and will do everything in my power to keep you alive. I don’t have a TS as I don’t talk and I don’t really have the funds for such but if this does help enough people, I’ll at least make a website. I’m open to all suggestions and love a challenge.

My goal for this is for everyone that joins to have the boosts from their main guild, but alleviate the problems of finding one. This also alleviates other problems as well and will not only be focused on Fractals (although that is currently the main reason for such). I’m personally looking to get into really high level fractals and eventually to 50.

If you guys have ANY suggestions and/or questions, please feel free to post them here or add me in game and PM me! I’m on pretty much everyday unless RL happens. I’m also on EST time.

I run 0/2/0/6/6 or 0/0/2/6/6 staff with the new water trait as well…I have to say, you can do some crazy things in mass pvp and stay alive. I’ve literally just rushed in head first into a zerg of 30+ and tank them while my zerg starts wiping them. You can get CRAZY tanky then mist form out and heal up and resume to back line healing/ccing/etc. I don’t know if this is viable at all in mass pvp but it’s fun as heck to do.

Is Healing Power worth it to help with water fields?

If your trying to help your friends through healing then just grab runes of the monk and the new 30 water trait. You will heal more then a elementalist that has full clerics on assuming he isn’t also running rune of the monk and the new trait.

I did some raids with my guild today in full cavalier armor I didn’t change my trinkets which have 2 celestial pieces and the healing was good. I have a cav set with monk runes on. It isn’t selfish but it definitely helps your friends and it allows you to still build for damage.

Just curious, how much does your Geyser and Healing Rain heal for?

I honestly don’t feel like ele was hard to level but I guess that’s because from 17-80, probably 95% of that was from EotM spam.

I’m relatively new (been playing a week now) but I find that even though builds may differ, once you get in the habit of switching attunements, it really does become second nature.

What I would suggest would be to find a rotation that works for you. I think if you sort of randomly swap around, you’ll run into rough patches and cool downs. I sometimes make a mistake when I want to (staff) earth 2 → fire 2 for might or E2 → W3/4/5 etc so it does take a bit of thinking ahead sometimes but it really isn’t hard. As others have said, it might not be for you.

Also note though that some situations won’t require a lot of “work” as in switching attunements a lot. Sometimes I can get away with using mostly just fire/water but if I’m playing “run away from the zerg”, I have to blow and rotate through all of my skills. For example, if a zerg is trying to kill me and I’m cc’d, I have to mist form out, swap to earth for earth 4 and earth 3, air for speed boost and air 5 for stun, water for 3/5 heal and 4 slow, fire to drop some damage and an extra evade while using my 6 (arcane brilliance) at some point to heal and blowing lightning flash or w.e its name is to gain more distance and so on (not in that order necessarily).

So to end this rather lengthy post, so far I feel like ele has a wide range on skill cap in regards to how often you switch attunements, how you utilize the aforementioned, and properly managing CDs while still being effective in whatever role you’re filling.

Alrighty so I hit 80 about 3 days ago or such (about 80 hours in total of playing time to hit 80) and have grown very fond of using a staff over any other weapon. On top of that, I REALLY love/prefer supporting. I played more than a ton of EotM and have noticed that I excel in just healing/peeling for my team.

Right now, I’m running in cleric exotic armor with runes of dwayna (or something like that) and the exotic water sigil + the one that gives up to +25 stacks after you kill an enemy (increases healing). Sorry I don’t remember the names at the moment. I know eles (or at least guess) are supposed to go all “pew pew BOOOMMMM” and such but I feel really tanky and helpful with a lot of healing power and vit. I think I run either 0/2/0/6/6 or 0/0/2/6/6 and take mist form, lightning flash, sometimes the arcane skill (not arcane blast but the first one on the bottom left when you’re choosing your skills from the arrow above the skill slot) so that I can do the field thingy for added effects (aoe might/frost armor/speed boost) or frost bow so I can blink -> frost bow 5 an enemy sometimes or now signet of life. For the elite, I take the elemental summoning or flame greatsword (those are a good way to get around faster too!).

Basically what I’d like to know is that is this build viable? I’m still figuring all of this stuff out. I have a zerker set and got luckily gambling the rest of my gold away and got an exotic zerk staff out of the mystic forge thingy (I blame my long time friend for leading me to that gambling addicting toilet) just in case heal/tanky spec is completely poop.

On a side note: I also ran this build, cept with earth shield instead of frost bow and reaper of grem in the instance with the aetherblade guys (I’m really sorry I don’t remember any names…I think it was TA? or DA?) and actually managed to learn and then pull the fire elementals in there so our black flubbers could get to the end without dying. My guildie said he had never seen an ele do it before but it worked since we didn’t have a guardian.

And wanted to say, out of all the game communities I’ve seen, this one has been the nicest by far. I’m relatively new to the game still but I’ve it downloaded for a while, just collecting dust. I was actually just complaining about 3 days ago about how I couldn’t find a good mmo to get into since I wanted to give LoL a break. Lo and behold, there was a good one for well over several months sitting on this laptop.

I’ve had nice people teach me how to level, how to craft, how to spvp, wvw, and more stuff. I know there will be bad apples later, as with any mmo. But for now, I’m highly satisfied with the community and people I’ve met thus far.

Edit: And I also found out why people don’t like skyhammer as much =.=;
