Arrys, but having to put it off of auto attack in some way makes it a higher skill weapon. If only for having to think about pressing 1 all the time, and when to stop… more user input is more ‘skill’, as having it on auto means you won’t have to think about it.

Shoot a gun once, and you may get a kill, but you sure as heck scare of any wildlife in the wide area. Realy the silence of a bow is the way to go if you truely want to be a mighty hunter and bring home the most game…

Other explination (lore wise), the ranger has shunned technology over the last 250y in favor of nature based ‘magics’ and their relation with their pets. I’m guessing like game, they don’t like these loud noises…

Ranger concerns.

As far as range goes, from what i tested sofar (i have 5 different professions all weapons unlocked) the Ranger seems to have the furthest ‘range’ on all the weapons that these professions have in commen. So while you may feel you don’t have range, emagine how some classes (f/e thief shortbow) must feel when they see the range on their bow (or Axe for that matter, compared with Necro).

Now it’s just up to you to use this range and learn how to kite properly, and deal with those gap closing skills on melee fighters.

I feel somewhat the same about the 2H sword though, but for the sake of realy wanting a staff on the Ranger (that would combine staff fighting and nature magic). And seeing the 2H sword feels the least ‘rangery’ it was my prefered weapon to ‘go’. Who knows maybe in some expansion we get to see a staff … the 2H sword is here to stay though, and having used it at times, it’s a realy fun weapon in PvE…

While i think that Khunvyel gives some good arguements for the sword (TLDR, it’s a more difficult weapon to master for the ranger). I still think that a small swap of skills could do a lot for the ranger sword:

1. Slash
> Kick
>> Serpent Strike
2. unchanged
3. Pounce.
* Serpent Strike & Pounce balanced for their new locations

Not only does it give a much needed gap closer on the sword. It also makes the Nr1. sequence feel like the ranger sword as a whole ‘felt’ when it still had the KnockBack on kick. Which was a realy fluid mobile fighting style. This feel is completely gone, with the knockback being gone, as the nr1 skill sequence basically roots the player into place.

Then again, having a constant ‘dodge’ on the nr1. sequence may well make the sword somewhat OP again. Not sure in how far serpent strike also counts as an ‘invulnerable’ during the sequence (after realizing my biggest issue with the sword, which is basically what this thread is about, i stopped using it), but if it doesn’t then the move would only regulary evade directional damage, not sure how OP that is…

Another thing i am still pondering about in regards to this ‘switch’-fix is whether it will still lock people in the nr1-sequence, albeit now being less of a problem it would still be quite annoying if one can’t use other skills while in this sequence…

These two issues are hard to judge theoretically though, so I am merely hoping that Anet will take all suggestions under considderation and test them in capable hands, to see which works best.

I cannot force myself to respect your posts anymore.

You are simply dismantleling any point of view different than yours.

If the problem is Pounce, then better remove it. 1 more player controlled dodge is much more valuable to a melee Ranger than 1 leap skill. Rangers aren’t true tanks by nature, they are a jack of all trades master of none.

Srsly I’m going to disregard any further posts made by you, looking at your post history. I’m sorry but I cannot respect your your way of thinking as it represents quite big of an ego.

My posting history is full of fair, open, and helpfull posts if you cared to actually read them… You will find that i have strong opinions and due to years of forum discussions i have build a decent experience in refuting opinions of others… One thing i try to stay away from though, is ‘ad hominen’ where you ‘attack’ a person instead of their posts. It is considdered one of the lowest forms of discussion…

You should realy learn to distingusish them and stay away from them aswell, because a smearing campaign in regards to me personally realy disqualifies your arguments (and yourself realy) as a whole. If somebody disagrees with you and does so with better arguments than yourself, you merely lost a discussion, big deal, happens to me every once a while (more than i’d prefer realy :/ ). Be the bigger man/woman and learn to accept you are not always right, or come up with better arguments that refute your ’opponent’s arguements’, but realy, never attack the person behind those arguements because then you make things personal, and might well strike somebody the wrong way…

Now i don’t realy care about whether you want to read my posts or not, thats your choice, but saying my posts history is full of unfair harsh ego (which i doubt you even read, as it is simply not true) just because somebody smashed your opinion to bits is just a smear post i can not leave unaddressed…

Dungeons, karma and medium effort rewards

On the one hand i like this idea, as it means people have something to do, besides just grinding dungeons to get the gear. On the other hand though, you added in more ‘grind’ to a system that (for some) already has grind… aka, you now have to also grind Karma to get this gear…

I would rather see one getting a token after the story mode, which should be turned in at the vendor for this dungeon gear, which is unlocked after doing the explorable mode 1x (which makes it somewhat like finding this crafter). Then the armor would be bought with Karma + Gold (possibly added with, like the GW1 way, crafting resources).

IAW: After doing this dungeon in story mode 1x, to then find the crafter for this dungeon in explorable mode 1x and giving him the token, unlocks this crafter in the world so you can just get your stuffz for Karma + Gold (+ resources?)…

The dungeons (explorable mode) could then be rated as a certain number of DE’s or Hearts, and running an entire explorable dungeon would give one the equivilent in Karma + Gold + XP (the dungeon should also monitor ‘progress/activity’ in the dungeon so people can’t just run to the end to receive a big reward)…

So now there is truely an alternative on what you want to do to get your Dungeon gear. Either farm the dungeons, or play normal events. The dungeon could well drop the needed crafting resources a bit more often, but should certainly not be exclusive to this dungeon.

logging in on a certain thread takes one to the main forum

This is not so much a bug, but mostly a convenience matter.

This has happened to me multiple times: I am reading the forum, just for reading it, and on a certain thread I decide I want to make a contribution. Then when i log in, the login process takes me to the main forum, instead of the thread i was reading when i logged in. Which in general means i now have to stroll through the forum to re-find the thread i was in.

If i didn’t pay good attention to the thread name, and it happened to not be on the front page (and also not paying attention on which page it was, or somebody else happened to post in it in the mean time) this means searching for this thread becomes a big hassle…

So please integrate a login that brings one back to the page where you logged in from, this will increase the forum experience considderably.

PETS: Here i am still searching for a pet that feels like it’s my style of pet. There are some things with pets though…

- I tend to use a small bird (generally white raven), when i am just moving around, it takes up the least space on my screen, doesn’t walk in front of my feet, it also STOPS! when i stop… the only negative about the birds is that their F2 skill isn’t realy that awesome…

- Recently aquired myself a Hyena, I realy liked this pet during the BWEs but with my Sylvari Ranger (had a human in bwe) i am not to sure. Still though, the F2 can be a real life-saver. That extra damage and that extra target, and that extra pet, what can be better ?!
- Well an AoE buff could be better! So a Red Moa is also high on the list of pets…

Currently i still switching to my raven(s) though, both the Moa and the Hyena have the tendency to run so far ahead that the fight starts b4 i want it too. And they are also somewhat large and clumsy, walking in front of me, and generally annoying me with just being there :P

Water pets: Armored fish, gellyfish. I haven’t played that much in the water, and only have a shark alternative. The gelly may well make place for the shard sooner or later, but having the rainbow as a HOM unlock, well i just had to use it … i realy like the armored fish for some reason (just by looks), but it is a bit sluggish in his F2 response (as are most pets).

TRAITS: well this seems to be the hardest thing still, i am currently filling:
- Longbow for first strike & power.
- Nature Power, for added regen time
- Wilderness survival for vigor on heal.

As far as Jewelry goes, i am splitting myself between ‘healing power, condition damage, vitality, power’ … but then i realize that untill i am level80 and don’t realy have to rely on what sort of stuff i find, i should just go for a more balanced setup to give myself the most options in regards to finding out how i want to play (same with traits). So by the time i am actually lvl80 i will have a good idea on what i want to do with my character and I can start to make sure i have my Traits, Weapons/Jewels set up in a way that mostly benefits myself

Im currently lvl39 and for various things i am still orrienting myself (mainly traits and pet in some regards).

Weapons: Axe + warhorn/torch
I just feel at home in the midrange area, i need to have things happening somewhat at a distance in front of me, as to not get confuzed about all the chaos happening around me (which tends to happen in melee). I also want to have people behind me, in a sense to have some eyes in my back, but also to get a ‘im protecting people here’ feeling while playing.

The warhorn gives a nice buff and i use it a lot, also for the speedbuff that lets me move around faster. Also the birds are just cool! The warhorn has a sigil that gives a 10% chance to heal allies around. The axe on this set has a ‘lengthens bleeding duration for 5%’, seeing the axe has a bleed on it.

The torch is my switch weapon, for when the warhorn skills are on cooldown, it gives a nice fire, combofield, which get used instantly as i am placing myself in that middle. But it’s also nice to have in single player mode. I added a sigil of the geomancer to the torch, so that it applies bleeding on a switch, this little extra on the torch makes me remember to switch more often (as i noticed that i forgot to switch), the axe on this set has a ‘lengthens bleeding duration by 5%’-sigil to boost that switch bleed, as well as the axe bleed.

For my heal i use ‘healing spring’ great as a combofield to support anything in front of me when i hurl those axes in that general direction. And being a middle man i can easily roll forward to heal the melee fighters, or backwards to heal the backline, and obviously placing this healing spring anywhere also lets others combo with it…

Utilities: Frost trap, Spiketrap, lightning reflexes
When being in that middle range, protecting that backline (or atleast giving them some time) feels like the thing to do, both frost trap and spike trap slow down movement of any foes passing through, as well as hurting them. The bleed on spiketrap also benefits from my Axe-sigils. But also in melee range these traps work wonders and frost trap also offers a cold-combofield. At one point i ran firetrap, but i realized that with the torch i would have a firecombo on a swap, so why take the trap. The snakepit is realy one dimensional with it’s poison, the animation is somewhat nice, but the other traps just have more going for them..

Lightning reflexes wasn’t my innitial choice for a 3rd skill, but it soon became a staple, as a stun/etc breaker AND doing damage AND providing an extra dodge AND giving a buff to endurance providing more dodges… well, as soon as i got to higher levels, where foes have more stuns/etc and fight harder, thus needing more dodges, it was pretty much a no brainer …

Elite: Sylvari TakeRoot, sometimes grasping vines, (not yet unlocked sylvari Druid Spirit).
TakeRoot and Grasping Vines provide a similar function (in my views) but in a totally different way. Grasping vines stop foes dead in their tracks, while Takeroot gives 5 alternative targets for foes to go after. Both are not perfect, as grasping vines has a target limit and the turrets don’t always draw agro. I mainly run Take root though, as during soloplay i usually mainly need extra damage, and the invulnerability during casting also gives me some time to get a heal or dodge back up prolonging my survivability…

Just your second weapon

It will depend on what you want with the switch tbh, i don’t use bows at all and have an Axe/Warhorn/Torch combo, midrange is where i feel at home. I do notice that the Axe/Warhorn is my ‘main’ weapon of choice, mainly for the warhorn. I think the buff on it is the skill i use the most in the whole game, be i fighting or not… it’s the runspeed alone that makes this weapon worth it’s weight in gold… then again the torch would give you a way to combo with yourself and add fire to your arrows!

But! i see you mention jumping puzzles, which makes me wonder if the greatsword isn’t a better choice. It gives you a way to fight in melee range, it has great defense with the block in area’s where you can’t dodge (without falling to your death). And while i am not sure about it, but the Leap skill may well help crossing difficult jumps as maybe you be able to fly over them like a bird (this needs confirmation/testing though, as i personally haven’t tried it!)

Tbqh. The best advice i can give is to have them all, put the Axe/Warhorn on your second slot for the added speed buf. And switch them out for the greatsword when you enter a jumping area. This saves you a slot in normal gameplay, and there is nothing preventing you from doing this

- sigil of the geomancer (on any weapon): if you switch to this weapon in combat you apply bleed. Put it on both your weapons and switch when you get the chance ^^

The quiver suggestion has been ongoing since GW1 beta-weekends, *cough* and i have a suspicion that somebody in the ANet office is actively and successfully campaining against them *cough* the likely reason that GW doesn’t have them though is that they can cause clipping issues with various armors, perhaps not the armors that are in the game now, but perhaps some armor that is yet to be made…

And it’s not that the technology hasn’t been available to make them, in GW1 there were actually NPC’s that had a quiver. And we can all pretty much see how the engineer backpack could be remoddeled into a quiver, or for that matter any back item …

So taking this all in, i think the quiver won’t come to guildwars up untill some ranger loving modeler takes up his/her free time to make a quiverdesign that goes well with almost all armors, it will likely be a back item, so that the ‘choice’ to have one can be weight against the amount of clipping this quiver causes with the desired armor the person wants to wear, in which the profession of the player will also play it’s part (mainly some of the warrior armors)

I hope that day will come, rather sooner than later, not because i use a bow myself (as i don’t) but to satisfy the needs of those that do…

@Wayfinder, while in itself your arguement seems viable, i think that for the sword as a whole and in combination with the knive, and by also looking at utility options, the argument is realy weak… not just because i could reverse the arguement by stating: Having pounce on 1 is a waste, it is a jump move that should be player controlled for maximum effectiveness…

Your arguement is further weakened by already having a dodge move available on the sword that is player controlled, in the form of ‘Hornet Sting’. Then when combining the sword with the knife, you get another player controlled dodge move with ‘Stalker Strike’. Then when looking further on the utility side of the ranger, you get another dodge move with ‘lightning reflexes’, which also gives an endurance ‘buff’ that gives you more player controlled regular dodges…

Yet, there is NOT ONE readely available player controlled LEAP, on any 2 handed setup. True there are leaps, but pounce is on a sequence that triggered this skill while already in melee range… Monarch Leap is only available if Hornet Sting is used first…

So trading in one dodge, of the many available, to get a leap that isn’t currently readily available seems to be a much stronger arguement, and it’s not that you actually loose Serpent Strike as a skill, you will still be able to benefit from swirling around your foe, only now in a more regular fashion giving the sword back it’s mobile fighting style feel (and having less chance jumping off a cliff if it is not your intention to do so)

In one of the bug posts i had a small discussion about this, and i agree with the topic title. My fix for the 1h sword:

1. Slash
> Kick
>> Serpent strike
2. Hornet sting
> Matriarch leap
3. Pounce

Obviously the skills would be rebalanced for the positions they take now. This should give the nr.1 skill back it’s skirmish feeling, that totally disappeared after kick lost it’s knockback (which was needed as it was a realy overpowered sequence). But with the removal of it, pounce is now questionable usefull in that sequence, and the nr1 sequence doesn’t at all feel like the sword it was, and the ranger-mobile-melee fighter it was.

Changing skills 1.3 & 3 around puts all ‘melee’ skills on one sequence and puts that mobile feel back on the sequence of skill 1. It adds a gapcloser to the sword, and it makes for an interesting choice after using skill 2, aka, do i use Matriach or Pounce to get back in the fight. It also makes for a good combo with the knive, that has a roleback, which is now complemented by the gapclosing Pounce on 3.

For all the other offhands the change hardly effects anything, for as far as i can reason…

Pets and a Lack of F2 Responsiveness

I noticed this on most my pets, so in all honesty i think they should all be looked at, seeing that this would take considderable time i think ‘we’ as a ranger community should wait for this fix for b) and see if this will fix issues on the pets we use …

I can say that for the pets i use now: white crow, crow, hyena, red moa … the issue of slow response and having to order my pet multiple times, to the whole ‘skill just goes into recharge without doing anything’ happens to all of them… as for water creatures, same thing, the rainbow jelly and the armored fish suffer from the same thing…

XP level (Story Requirements).

Yes you can team for personal story missions, with the exception of the quest that has you choose one of the orders! That one seems to cause a bug, where it sets all the players in the team to join that particular order, which then makes the others in the team ‘skip’ all the storyline quests from 30 to 48 (or so).

There is no loot/xp leeching, as all the loot is personal, and you get XP for every contribution to the kill. But there is no need to team unless you realy want to team with another person (except for the dungeons ofcourse).

In a sense i agree somewhat on the hearts, but you shouldn’t see them as the thing to do there, realize that hearts are one of the locations where DE’s start for sure. So you see the task of the heart, just something you ‘can’ do while you wait for something more fun to start. Other locations tend to be encampments (with or without hearts) … and almost every area has an overarcing event chain that is displayed in the top corner, which gives you some information about what the general status of that particular area is.

All these things together tell you the story of the world, and besides the PS, YOU make your own choices as to what your character’s story is. Now i won’t lie to you or sell you sparkling ponies, it may well be that this more ‘sandbox’ style of game, with only a mild personal storyline to give a general direction is not for you . ‘You can’t please everyone’ … so maybe GW2 isn’t for you, but i personally think it’s great, and i have no troubles keeping myself occupied and i am enjoying myself a lot. I truely hope you will come to see GW2 in a similar way, I can only show you the way, you will have to walk the walk yourself

Heya Capitol, i just read a post in the tech forum labeled ‘game crashes every 10min’ or so, it has a reply by ArenaNet, which is to include a gameadvisor (some program) report in the OP, the link to it is provide in that post. While it may be no direct fix, i am fairly sure those at ArenaNet can use those reports to better identify the problem… it may be an idea to send on in as well by including it in the OP as to provide Anet with more intel.

I’m unfortunatly no computer expert, but from experience with hanging around bug/suggestion/feedback sections on forums i do know which questions get asked first by those that do have experience, and sometimes remember some fixes for certain issues. Hence me asking them, so those with the experience already have all the basic stuff cleared … i do hope your (and loads of others) have this issue resolved realy soon, hang in there, GW2 is worth it … and do send in that report, the more info the faster it may be resolved

Hmm, sounds realy frustrating … i am no computer expert, and when i typed my reply this issue was posted in the ‘bugs’ section, so i replied with the general questions in regards to any computer issue… while not always appreciated i hoped it could atleast give the OP something to do/check so they have a feel they are atleast doing something about the issue, and supplying those with actual knowledge with valuable information… in that regard:

I just saw a whole discussion on something that looked fairly similar and was labeled with ‘game crashing every 10min’ … i saw there that an ArenaNet reply was to use the gameadvisor program and include the report in the OP … so if the OP here returns and reads this, i would advice you to look into threads with similar issues as this one, esp. ones that have an arena net reply and are named something like the ‘game crashing every 10min’ … to get the link to this program, run it, and include it in the OP

GL you guys, hang in there, the game is worth it and will be around for many years to come, it may suck not being able to log on now for an extended period of time, but these issues will be fixed as I am sure Anet will do what is needed to fix this

Well crashing and crashing are obviously ‘container words’, when i read crashing i am expecting a blue screen to pop up (if at all) and the computer being halted entirely…

So it may be usefull to better describe what sort of ‘crash’ you are experiencing … from what i understand now it just closes the game off to desktop?

Still though, the whole set everything back to default and try if it helps, to then increase requirements step by step, can still provide valuable information in regards to what is causing the software to quit .

  • something else just popped my mind, how long have you had this computer and did you ever clean the case from the inside? … it may be that Win7 is shutting GW2 off because it is overheating your processor or gfx-card, not so much because they can’t handle GW2 but because the cooling is clogged with dust, you won’t notice this on normal operations but on demanding programs it may well cause issues… if you have any other recent highstrain games and they run fine, that doesn’t have to mean this problem isn’t causing this. Different programs utilize different components of you computer (RAM, CPU, GFX) in different severities, GW2 is largely CPU bound (or atleast it was during the BWE), and it’s not a given that other games do the same thing, they may put high strain on your GFX-card instead…

If you aren’t computer savvy and don’t feel comfortable with cleaning your computer yourself, a local computer shop will likely charge only a small fee for it, given it is needed… seeing you can’t damage much by just opening up the case (given there is no warrentee sticker placed over it !!) to check the state of the innerside of your computer, it may be worth doing that yourself before deciding to take it to a computershop (don’t go touching things in there though if you don’t know what you are doing! )

Argh! not again :@ …

Ok seeing this got moved to the tech.forum… i will repeat my response…

Please give as many details you can:
- hardware specs
- operating system
- any virus scanner/guards
- any software/hardware firewalls
- ISP (internet service provider)
- the state of your homenetwork, connected to a router or directly to the modem, using Wifi or direct cable, etc… a ‘campus’ network classifies as a network, but details can obviously not be given, but it be nice to know if this is the case.

- It be nice to know if you run the game in default settings or otherwise as well…

- Perhaps it even be good to know what ‘state’ you are in, I don’t know if it’s possible but if all the things happen in the same ‘state’ the problem might be ISP-network related.

- is there anything prior to the ‘kick’ that you notice? any sounds or bleeps from your computer, or even observable glitches in the game?

That’s about all the details i can think of, please do supply them as those working on this issue need as many details as possible to hopefully find a commen thing between all those suffering from this issue, to then try and solve it…

Argh! my reply was destroyed as the topic was moved to the technical forum

anyways, tl&dr, try the following, one at a time please! :
1. retry re-starting the client, does the same sequence of events keep happening every time?
2. try restarting your computer and re-starting the client. does the same sequence happen again?
3. make sure you run the client in administrator mode, you can do so by rightclicking the icon and putting a [v] in the right spot.
4. lastly, if you have any virusscanners/guards/firewalls running please disable them for the timebeing (and ONLY for the timebeing, do restart them afterwards if this helps, for your own and our safety). Make sure you set permissions for the game after it is installed (if it worked).

It would be nice to know which operating system you are using, i am assuming Win7 Professional from your specs, but it may help solving this issue, if the other things haven’t helped yet.

  • I won’t reply here after, as i don’t know what else to advice to help you, but the answers you give will help anyone with more knowledge as the basic things are asked/suggested

I support this ‘given’ it actually makes for a sollution … with which i mean that if the restart just restarts a broken event, with a guarantee that the event is still broken, how does it solve anything ?

Then again, if this would solve atleast some part of the events and blocked hearts (due to events around those hearts blocking it), it may well be worth it. I doubt consumers would mind waiting for a couple of minutes if it increases their experience there after …

still though, and again, only if it solves anything for that period of time. As it’s no use if these events, etc. get blocked/stuck 10min after the restart…

I agree with StarsLife, seeing this is a serious and technical issue you should goto the [services] → [support] option a top this forum and submit a technical issue support ticket.

In the meantime i would advice you to put all the settings on default and check if that solves the issues. If so than slowly increase the options (one by one) untill you figure out which setting makes the system crash, that information may help Anet in fixing it, and/or it may be the tipping point for your system and what it can handle

Sounds pretty serious, tbqh i would advice both of you to make a support ticket instead of waiting here on the forums for a reply. It may take some time b4 the ticket is answered (as other things do get priority) but it may well be worth it. Especially if you are hacked, then it may be that your computer is infected with something (or your game email hacked, which could have implications for other games aswell).

So yeah, under [Services] above is the support section, i am guessing that is where you can make a support ticket and have this looked into

Guild Banners not exclusive

Yeah let’s not share and make a name for our guilds. Could those in favor please post the name of the egoistic & egocentric guild they are in, that way i can be sure to put my nose up high in the air and ignore your precious guildbanner… as well as your cries for help if your tower/keep is attacked in WvW, any cries for help on dungeons, DE’s or w/e … heck if you throw a guild bash i will be sure to ignore your invites for sharing your ‘fame’ with the community …

There are tons of things that non guild members don’t have access to, if only a social environment, given ofcourse one is in a guild that actually has some sort of ‘social’ feel behind it…

also, this is not a bug! it’s an opportunity for guilds to advertise how cool they are by sharing the fruits of their labor with the general community that happens to be around where you placed that banner.

So please, what the heck are you thinking about this, once guesting is enabled feel free to send me an email and i will invite you to my server and i will give you some free drinks, we can get so loaded we pass out, and by the time you wake up i am sure you can see the benefit of sharing, if only some little things, with other people…

Question about the bugs..

Well, since the forum has been opened 84 pages of bugs (roughly 2500 bugs) have been reported that is in about 2 weeks time, which is about 10 workdays. Then there are about 125 people working @ArenaNet roughly devided over Staff, Art, Sound, Coding (engine/server), Content, QualityAssurance, CustomerSupport. So realy roughly that means about 18people per department.

Now take into account that true bugs need the following steps.
1. The bug needs to be confirmed / repeatable (this is done by QA)
2. The reason for the bug needs to be discovered (this is partially done during QA, as they pass on the bug to the department they think it has to do with), then a person from this department has to start digging through the bug.
3. The bug then has to be solved in which ever way possible
4. The new ‘code’ is now passed on back to QA, which test the whole thing again to make sure the fix didn’t cause some other bug, and to test if the bug is truely fixed.
5. The new code has to be integrated into all the other new code and compiled into an update…

So depending on the severity of the bug, and this process above working as fluidly as it can (but with the interdependencies of advanced software that is almost certainly not going to happen), i would guestimate that every person can clear about 2 bugs a workday (that counts for all the people, so also those that don’t even do bugfixing, like staff or support teams). Some simple math: 125 people, fixing 2 bugs & having 10 days to do so, that would mean they ‘could’ have fixed 2500bugs, and all the pages of bugs would have been solved by the next update. ‘BUT’ appart from easy fixes, every 5 bugs fixed introduce about 1 new bug (and that is likely a lightly guestimate), which means, with some easy math: 2500/5 = 500. These introduced bugs as they are part of bug fixing, go before any other bug. Which means there are about 500 bugs on the pile. Obviously it’s more likely that there are more, as i realy took a very ‘positive’ approach to all of this (esp. the amount of people that fix bugs, the amount of bugs that can be fixed in a day, and the amount of new bugs introduced by trying to fix another)

Then to get to the, why doesn’t anybody answer, well there are 6 Community managers, and a couple of mods. Besides answering the 100s of posts made on this forum, they also have their regular jobs to do. What should set your mind at ease is that various bugs do get an answer, it may not be the answer we all long for (this piece of software is now completely bug free!) but it shows that this forum is looked after…

TL&DR, this is not a bug, you just seem to miss the full scope of what is possible and what it takes to do so…

XP level (Story Requirements).

Let’s not fight over this hmk. From the outset it should be clear that GW2 doesn’t work like any other sRPG or MMORPG… so this is not a bug, it is merely an XP balance between all the various things you can do in the game…

To this i want to add that Anet specifically stated that crafting, while giving XP, can also be ignored completely. What does this mean, it means that there are enough XP to be gained from Hearts, Skillchallenges, Just killing Critters, Dynamic Events, Personal Story quests, Gathering, combined with Daily/Monthly achievement rewards; to get to level 80 and beyond…

So this is not a bug, it’s actually an intended feature, the storyline is there to guide those that need some direction, and lead them through a world full of things to do. Why are there ‘roadblocks’ in the level requirements for the personal story? So you are ‘forced’ to go out and explore and do some of the other things that are scatered around the game.

If you were to start a new character and follow the PS from the moment you get in, i think you run into this lvl-gate fairly quickly, so you do some hearts and likely grab a DE along the way (as it’s hard not to do atleast one while doing hearts). And fairly soon you will again be on par to continue your personal story. Now the lvl’curve’ is fast at the start and then flattens out after a certain lvl, this means you will have to do a lil more to close that PS gap untill a certain point, from which onwards you have to do an equal amount of ‘work’ to gain a lvl. I do not know where this flattening point is, but i still level atleast once every 1.5h or so.

And that is just how the game is played, the good thing is that if you get sidetracked and ‘outlevel’ the personal story, you will get scaled down and the story is still as ‘hard/difficult’ as it would have been (would you be ‘on level’). So that is the only advice i can give, make sure you allow yourself to get sidetracked… the easiest way i found keeping on track, is not to cheat to much with the waypoint system. If you run everywhere you will have to fight foes, you will run into dynamic events (which you might not have done yet), and you will run into empty hearts. If you check the map every once a while and plot alternative routes to your destination, with the goal to clear ‘fog of war’ this is almost a guarantee… Then take some time to do some stuff around a heart or a POI, do a vista or a skill point. Forget about that ‘story’ for a moment and become the hero that all the NPC on your route are waiting for …

Do this and i am fairly sure you have little problem staying ahead of the PS requirements. Actually I know for sure you will, because i hardly discovered any area where my PS didn’t take me, i completed 3 areas or so, of the 8 i been to (so there is still a lot to do in those areas), i hardly crafted, and i am level 39 doing a lvl35’ish personal story quest. (how? well i start my playing session with a PS step, (sometimes cutting some corners through major cities portals) then run there doing all sorts of stuff along the way, do the PS, run all the way back (using city portals), pick up the next PS, Run all the way back (using city portals). And yes i do run past DE’s i have done once or twice already (most of the time, as sometimes there are just a few ppl struggling to do it) …

TL&DR, you should now know the PS is not the whole game, so play the game as it is set up to be played and have fun

Ok, i completed this quest with 3 deaths:
- first was the fire traps that just blew up in my face the moment i moved forward, either my pet or some NPC triggered them, as i was entirely ready to dodge through them but was just a moment to late
- I got downed two times on the spike traps even though i dodged, i guess i can’t ‘walk as light as a ghost’, luckely the NPCs helped me to get back up.
- The first boss wasn’t realy a problem, i used my axes/warhorn/torch and my hyena (x2) as well as my ‘take root’ elite, together with the frost spirit and frost trap. Used healing spring to keep some NPCs alive. With this many ‘stuff’ around (including NPCs) i hardly got targetted

Nr1. The first death by the lich was due to me being overwhelmed, based on this thread i thought my pet would be with me, alas, and having that sword all of a sudden kind off threw me off ‘not knowing the skills’, that together with the chaos that started, well i was down to half my health b4 i even got a hit in :P
Nr2. after the respawn i took some time to read the skill discriptions properly, dodged passed all the traps, and luckely the lich didn’t summon reinforcements in my absence. I took no time to rush at him and use 3 to knock him down, just in case he was trying to summon the reinforcements as i came in (like it went on nr1.) then i persued on dodging and using my trap and spirit. Traherne spawned with me and concerned himself with ressing the NPCs, while i kept the lich busy, knocking him down with skill3 as soon as it came up. Still though, i died, but i managed to get his HP down considderably.
Nr3. Now being fairly used to the sword and my skill setup, i again continued to hit on him, dodge around and use my other skills, and i managed to kill him off…

I will say that ‘take root’ realy helped, as it provides 5 turrets that both do damage as well as provide additional targets. Instead of straving and skill2, i used the more direct approach and used skill3 to keep the lich down or disrupted. The frost trap and frost spirit-activate did their job, atleast i think the -66% recharge on his skills realy helped reduce his output. The extra dodges were welcome, spurred by lightning reflexes and wilderness survival ‘gain vigor on using heal’. The pet suggestions were reasonably helpfull in taking out the 1st ‘boss’, but as the pets disappeared during the real boss fight, not so much there…

I did carry my HoM stone the whole way, but didn’t seem to be effected by it, this doesn’t mean there is no issue with it, as the OP already pointed out that it caused some sort of ‘chance’ effect on the sword skills working. My sword worked, so i may have been lucky…

Last thing, i didn’t notice a fast regen of health on either boss, this may be due to them being altered already (?) or my setup and speed to get back into the battle were fast enough to not let the lich recover that much health.

Interesting & hard quest this one, and it will be hard to not die a few times doing it, but not as impossible (for me atleast) as the OP makes it sound, then again the quest may have already been tweaked (esp. in regards to the regen on the bosses). The skill setup i proposed worked fine, and it’s upto ‘you’ to decide to strave/range the boss or to get in his face. The observed change of pace the boss utilizes (going from ranged to melee) may be used to change these two strategies as fitting, but you would need to be able to keep cool and observant to do so, and with the chaos going on a ‘Vigil’-approach with some armor repairs seems more suited…

So to make it even more clear…

This sigil only works when you wield the weapon you equip it too, but in your case, you get this 0.4 per kill on any weapon (as you put it on all weapons). Whether you have it on one weapon or on all of them, it won’t let you build up any more than 25 stacks.

This stack bonus counts toward your character, for as long as it’s there (resets on downed), no matter what weapon you wield. So you could put it on one weapon, build up the 25stacks and then continue to fight with another weapon, or you put it on all weapons, meaning it doesn’t realy matter what weapon you wield you will build up those 25 stacks…

Hope that totally explains how this works I would advice you to put this upgrade on your ‘main’ prefered weapon, so you always build up those 25 stacks, to then have a different sigil on another weapon for an extra ‘umpf’ on a swap (f/e. of the Geomancer, gives bleeding on a swap, but i am sure there are more to pick from).

Then it’s a bit of a choice whether you put one on a water-weapon, it’s likely that you will play more above water than below, but if you are downed and loose the 25stacks it be annoying if you can’t just jump in and continue to fight. Still though putting it on one of your water-weapons and using another on your swap, could work just fine

@Onoz, that or a longer duration, or it could be compensated by adding another effect, like the knockdown f/e… but i do agree a new setup would have to be balanced a bit in regards to the new cooldowns etc…

Same basically goes for ‘Serpent Strike’ the skill that originally had a long cooldown and is now on a spam sequence. It would have to have it’s damaged reduced, and the poison duration reduced aswell. A 2 second poison (similar to the cripple on kick) would likely already mean that the chain itself can keep a constant cripple&poison on the target.

It be nice if the ‘guild founder’ would have the rights to demote leaders. As it’s likely that (s)he is the ‘ultimate’ leader of the guild. And there can only be on ‘guild founder’ anyways… if the guild founder would leave the next person in the invitation list would then be the one promoted to ‘guild founder’, etc and so on…

What about a hard Pink instead of Red? … it has a great contrast with almost all colors, and especially in a game that uses a lot of natural colors (greens, browns, blues (for water)) Pink would likely be very clear …

As for the green names on NPC’s and Allies, first thing that comes to mind is yellow, but it’s already used on ‘passive’ critters, white would be a good second, though here also it’s already in use. While i am unsure if it’s possible, but an outline in white around those green names would likely make a big difference, as it makes the green ‘pop-out’ of the backdrop.

Though perhaps a brighter green may also work (like as bright as the personal story indicator). The higher the contrast with possible backdrops the better they are to spot. Now a bright green isn’t as good as a border around them, but in most cases a brighter green will help.

Another thing that just popped in my mind is to have names with a ‘back-ground’-filler. Not realy sure how to describe this, but basically how the spoiler works on this forum. If the names all have such a black backing to them, then the contrast with the actual lettering (in both red & green) is hugely increased. If this is given the ‘brushstroke’ look it may even be very non-intrusive in regards to the game’s feel and artistic quality, while offering a good sollution to people that are colorblind (without making them feel like they are playing a game with color-blind fixes slammed on, aka. the brush stroke would feel natural in the whole of the game’s design).

Realy hope they do something about this, as it’s not to hard to fix these things with a lil thought put into it. And not that it has any merit, but i am not color blind, i do however have a bsc. in Industrial Design, and colorblindness is one of those things that ‘as a designer’ you have to take into account!

Reading this i think ‘lightning reflexes’ might also be a good skill to take, as it increases the amount of dodges you can take. Another thought may be the wilderness survival trait that gives you vigor (also increases dodges) on a heal skill. In all this will likely give you double (if not more) the amount of dodges you would have by default, include the invulnerability of ‘take root’ and you have a lot of damage mitigation…

Other skills that might help, Frost trap (as it slows the boss down, as well as slows his recharges) that can be combined with the sword’s leap combo finisher to get ‘frost armor’ further lengthening the freezing condition.

For the last utility i am thinking a spirit might help (fire or streight up damage buff), not only does it give yet another target for him to go after, if he doesn’t it buffs your NPC helpers & your damage output, either in flames or with extra damage…

It may also be an idea to get to the Charr capital and charm a Hyena (they are pretty much just outside the capital near the first heart you can see), the ‘howl for an companion’-skill doubles the amount of pets you have, giving more damage and more targets to take damage (there may be other pets (doglikes) that have this skill).

For your second pet i am doubting between the bear (as it has great staying alive skills) or a red moa (that has a might buff). Seeing you can’t use the warhorn to buff using a red moa could give you that little bit of an edge.

Last thing would be your runes on your armor, it would likely pay off to spend some time thinking about combo bonusses that could help you out (although i do get a feeling that some of them are bugged?), but f/e 2x Rune of Vampirism could give you some extra healing. And there are likely more rune-sets that can enhance your character’s output or defense…

ps. I have this quest lined up for tonight, though admittedly i will have to prepair for it myself first (mainly get some of those pets, and unlock a spirit). But i will tell you how i fare. I also didn’t receive a Hall of Monument Stone originally, so i will carry the one i bought from the pirate with me on the first runs, to see if it duplicates some of your original issues…

@Libix, i think i know why it feels so ‘static’, in the original skillset for the sword, the ‘kick’ had a knockback, which in turn made the Pounce realy usefull. So the sword would work:
1. Slash your foe.
2. Kick your foe backwards.
3. Jump after your foe.

And that would just cycle, it was great fun but realy overpowered, as you could basically neutralize any target with just the nr.1 skill… but removing this knockback makes the first 2 skills ‘static’ and the pounce somewhat questionable in usefullness…

After giving it some more thought and looking at the sword in total, perhaps a solution lies in totally mixing the skills around. I am thinking about the following:

1. Slash (slash at your foe)
→ Kick (kick at your foe, apply cripple)
→> Serpent Strike. (circle around your foe, poison)
2. Hornet Sting (evade backwards, apply cripple)
→ Matriach leap (jump at your foe, strike them)
3. Pounce (jump at your foe, give your pet might, (knock foe down 2sec, if hit from behind?))

This puts all the truely ‘melee’ range skills on 1, and even though you stay in close proximity of the foe, serpent strike gives a very mobile feel. Hornet sting gives a way to back out quickly, and then gives you 2 options: either just to strike them and get a leap combofinisher, or to strike&knockdown&might (which is on a longer cooldown now).

Now if you combine this with a knife, which has a throw and a evade backwards, you also have a way to get back into the fight with the pounce, and pounce also gives a gapcloser.

Crafting: Items disappear from the discovery panel.

I noticed this too on some occations, and i think it has something to do with exhausting the options for discovery with that particular item … BUT !

Another thing that may be happening is that the game registers ‘No XP can be gained from this recipe’ as a ‘no discovery can be made from this object’ … with that i mean that if you outlevel a certain discovery, the game may block this discovery entirely by removing the items needed for the discovery from the discovery pane.

So mainly at Amaris, as (s)he says to be sure there are discoveries to be made with those items: would creating an already discovered similar level item still give you XP?
In more words, you can discover various ‘inscriptions’ that give more/different options for the weapon-bonus you add to a weapon; there seem to be various that give a similar level to the weapon crafted; As you gain more XP these inscriptions obviously grey out, now if you did not discover a certain inscription yet, for a certain weapon-lvl-outcome, does it still let you discover another recipe of that lvl.

Sigh this only seems to be getting more confusing, lets try an example :P
- You unlock inscriptions made with: blood, bone, nails (exampled materials)
- You could discover inscriptions made with: dust, scales; but you only discovered the one made with dust…
=> now you keep crafting untill the options for blood, bone, nails, dust are greyed out… Can you still discover the inscription made with scales?!?

I will try this myself, when i gathered enough materials to try this out, but it may be interesting for Amaris to check which recipies he is expecting to make, but the game won’t allow. As any bug usually has a cause, it may be that ‘gaining 0XP’ from the item removes them as an option to discover them, as a result removing the crafting materials from the discovery pane…

I have noticed the ‘jump around and turn away from your foe’ bug on the Thief (sword/knive) nr3. skill as well last night…

I do want to mention that having pounce as a nr.1 skill may well be annoying, while the gap opener is nice as a first choice skill, do be aware that the automatic cycling can kick in the moment you sellect a target, giving you no time to actually decide if it is the course of action you want to take at that moment. I can emagine numerous occations where it’s ‘not’ the thing you want to do, and while i know you can turn this functionality off in the option, it may well be alot confusing to new users.

While i do not entirely understand how the jump cycle works (i may test this tonight on my ranger), it may be enough to use the following order to stop the cycle?
1. slash
2. pounce
3. kick

@Kelanoria, you can send in suggestions through the wiki, there is a link to the wiki way up top. The suggestion section there lets you post suggestions for GW1 & GW2, so make sure you label your suggestions correctly.

When reading this i have but one question, is there a cooldown on the effect? might it be that this cooldown is still in effect when you switch from A to B, after switching from B to A? … You may have tested this, but it’s not clear from your post.

About issue 2) seeing there are 2 leeching sigils, perhaps the game is messing up due to this? I would suggest using just 1 sigil (on setup A) and try and see if that makes it consistant again.

also, some ranger issues are being dealt with in the 8 or 9 sept. update, as can be read in the patch notes.

If you read the patch notes for 8 or 9 sept (not entirely sure which), you will find that these issues should be resolved now.

- The pet can no longer be ressed by using F
- The pet does it’s F2 skill ‘the moment’ you tell it too.

The other issue, with targetting using F1 i am not sure about, if it’s still a problem i would suggest reporting it as a single issue, esp. if it is only a problem on certain foes…

Minor Rune of the Flock (2/2) Not working?

It seems that the (2/2) bonus on the ‘Minor Rune of the Flock’ does not summon a bird on a hit. With a 5% chance i should be seeing a bird show up atleast once every 20 hits (or so, statistically speaking), but i am fairly sure that i haven’t seen a bird show up in 2 nights of 4h+ playing sessions.

This may be due to the runes being broken, or the animation not being clear enough or not showing up at all. It’s hard for me to test this but to play and hit and watch for any bird, i tried my best though! So this may need some additional testing from you (ANet) by f/e upping the chance to 100% and testing if this makes the bird show up on a hit, and if not fix the issue(s).
