@Zorby , i know what you mean, and don’t worry i am not too concerned about what others think, but i do hope you understand that I too would like to see and know I am wearing ‘elite’ armor and that i can look somewhat distinct, even if it’s just a 10% refurbishment of existing armor.

Trait swap

I had a somewhat similar idea, it involved buying a ‘trait stone’ from your profession trainer. This trait stone would ‘save’ a particular build, so you could easily swap builds by double clicking the ‘trait stone’.

Alternatively i thought of similar ‘stones’ to use for saving a WvW build, or a sPvP build, you would buy these for a low ‘specific karma’ cost in the designated waiting areas. A player would only have 1 of these stones, and they would save 1 build, they can only be activated in the particular waiting area to prevent abuse.

Elite 'Regular' Armor...

As i recently turned lvl80 i have been looking around at the kind of armor / weapons i would like to be working towards. Here i noticed that the fairly normal armor i am wearing now appeals to me much more than the specially themed armors…

So i would like to suggest adding ‘Elite’ versions of the more regular styled armor pieces, so that would be:
- Elite Pirates Armor
- Elite Studded Armor
- Elite Rawhide Armor
- Elite Swindler Armor
- etc…

I am fairly sure these now basic armor designs can be kept 90% the same, but still enhanced them by about 10% to give them a more elite appearance. Giving those people that prefer a more ‘general/normal’ appearance more choices than the Caudecus Manor armor.

Refurbishment of these already existing armors would also be a fairly easy cost effective introduction of a bunch of ‘new’ elite armors. It would also give those that like a ‘normal’ over a ‘themed’ look a way to not be frowned upon by wearing a normal looking armor.

Historians - Suggestions for NEW content

This suggestion is one that strives for new content that enhances the background stories of all races, all area’s where applicable, and is supposed to increase the ‘living world’ feeling…

The Historian NPC
In order to achieve this i want to suggest adding ‘Historian NPCs’, for which i see a variety of angles…
1. The ‘tribal’ historian, these live in the cities and villages, they let the player experience (a) piece(s) of history by actively playing through it.

2. The ‘area’ historian, these live in a village or city ON a particular map, the historian(s) let the player experience (a) piece(s) of history that happened on the particular map. There could be more of these on a particular map, if that map has significance to the history of multiple races.

3. Traveling Historian(s), these would be traveling through Tyria and offer a general piece of history, these could be racial history, area history, or just ‘a’ piece of history.

The quest Mechanic
The historians would use the personal story mechanics to offer an ‘old style’ quest experience(s). Seeing the quests are about a certain story that happened in the past, it is more than fitting to let these take place in a ‘personal space’ rather than in the ‘real world’.

A historian could tell a short story playing in one ‘piece of the map’ or it could send the player on a ‘quest trail’ taking place on various ‘maps’.

Added value
There are numerous locations in the world that have changed during the 250y since GW1, but even stories from GW1 may well be worth telling ‘again’. The story could take people past structures that lie in runes in the ‘living world’ and take them in and around these structures while they were still active, the player may well play a part in the destruction. Or see a structure destroyed …

These are all background bits of information that make people connect to the current state of the map. Through the historians the players is not just part of the world ‘now’ but can also play a part in it’s history.

More then just the playable races
And not just about the main races either:
- stories of the tribal hylek historian
- stories of the historic councel of skritt (a group of skritt that keep reiterating the history of the skritt to each other to make sure history is not forgotten
- etc…

Seeing a lot of these races have a ‘when friendly’ condition. A ‘historian’ could become available under these conditions to give these races some added historic background. A player could well ‘crawl into the skin’ of the race and play out an historic event as being a part of (through the eyes of) the race that is concerned.

Certain area’s (maps) may well be of historic significance to a certain race, either how they got there, or why they are no longer there. So even the minor races are not just limited to some general history as written down just above here, but they could be a part of the historic view of a map as a whole, or just a piece of the map specifically.

Permanent content
All these historic stories would be permanent content, and offer a active ‘view’ in to the past, giving Tyria in GW2 it’s rich history. The stories could be replayable, would not have to offer any significant rewards, though they could. And by using the ‘personal story’ mechanic, these quests do not ‘tax’ the living breathing world or take from it. They may have a ‘quest mechanic’ of old, but it’s used in a way that is suitable for the kind of content that is offered.

Expandable
This content uses a simple ‘start quest’ NPC, uses existing ‘personal story’ mechanics, which draws on existing maps. Some of the maps may have to be altered in some shape, way or form, but seeing the large amount of existing assets some ‘copy/paste’ may well be possible…

Once a bunch of these ‘quest (lines)’ are ‘in the game’, the system can ‘in effect’ go live. After this it is merely an effort of adding more historic quests to more maps, races, area’s etc.

Innovation
Personally i am mostly looking forward to experiencing the rise of Zhaitan, most significantly in any of the flooded area’s. To me it would be more than exciting to start in ‘old style’ Lion’s Arch, running some errands, to then experience the upheaval as a smallish earthquake hits. to then nothing happening, to then be struck by the flood (quite possibly by a cinematic). To then wake up on shore of the new map (with just rubble) and then to start some rebuilding efforts. And that is how LA came to be…

By using the historic view, one can start in a map at condition past, change the map by some event, which is displayed by a cinematic, to then have the player contribute to in that map at ‘condition more recent past’, to then change the map again, until the player is back in the present.

Need to fix this RNG based skin deal

A way to do RNG somewhat decent is to offer an replacement or ‘additional option’ in an RNG fashion, though instead of RNG i would rather see this only used in certain events. I can not really see anything wrong with offering a certain hard to get item as a reward for a certain holiday event ‘thing’. This would mean that there is the gem-shop full armor set, there is a holiday reward item, and there is a certain armor piece that comes from a hard to do (like the tower thing) holiday event ‘dungeon (or the sorts)’ … meaning that the hard to get item is a reward for taking the time to do this certain thing, there are/(is) (a) memorabilia item(s) that comes with the other event things. And there is an assortment of gem-shop items.

Now what you do NOT want to do is make the hard to get item the only way to get such an item, you want to make it an additional/replacement item… So what would that look like in an actual holiday event:

Halloween:
- Gem-Shop, has Mad-King armor, including pumpkin hat (+ other assortment items)
- Tower event, has ‘Mad-King’s Head’, pumpkin ‘hat’ with flames.
- Event itself, has the back-item (book).

  • The gem-shop armor (apart from the hat) could also be linked to the various other in-game event ‘things’. So people have the choice to spend the time or the money (i would say it to be only fair to sell each individual armor piece as well, so that people don’t have to buy the whole thing if they only need a chest or piece or a hat).

Wintersday:
- Gem-shop, has an armor skin with fur (and an assortment of winter clothing)
- The most difficult event ‘thing’ has a ‘toy maker mini’
- The various events have a chance on the winter fur lined armor, but always give the various minis.

  • obviously the gem-shop would also offer the individual pieces so that people can complete the armor.
  • the armor completion deal could be offered like 3-4 days prior to the end of event, so that people can feel complete for the finale.

Sounds sensible, and it sounds reasonable, it offers cash/time exchange, it offers a special thing for the most effort, and it gives incentive to take part in the event and to spend some gems near the end of it.

I have to agree with the OP in the sense that this armor is ONLY available by RNG …

I like the suggestion of Tekietee above here but i would like to extend it a bit. And for this i sort of look to GW1 and how costumes were introduced there, and apply this to how GW2 works:

Gem store items
- Frost Pack: $20,- … buy account wide access to all the armor skin pieces (basically how the HOM reward pieces work), buy account wide access to all the weapon skins. And get 5 fire-pits.
- Frost Armor: $10,- get account wide access to all armor skin pieces.
- Frost Weaponry: $10,- get account wide access to all weapon skins.
- Fire Pits: w/e they cost now.

Added to the black lion chests :
- Fire pit
- Frost token ‘1’ & ‘2’
‘1’. The token can be exchanged at the armor/weapon NPC in exchange for access to a single piece of the armor or weapon set.
‘2’. As more living story segments are released this ‘token’ should be made more general, something like ‘Momento Armor Token’, ‘Momento Weapon Token’, so that people can choose where (which story) they deliver their token to get access to a single piece of the event armor.

Story Reward
A unique single piece of armor or a weapon skin, this works similar to how ‘hats’ worked in GW1, but seeing GW2 i think it would not have to be a ‘hat’ all the time. Preferably every living story ‘climax/end’ would have a particular armor skin piece. Which ‘after’ X stories, would form a either complete set or would complement (fit with) any of the higher tier armors. (so for example, currently the attacks seem to be flame legion related, effect charr, norn, humans mostly, any of these could give inspiration for an armor piece to complement any of the racial armors or a dungeon armor. OR the rewords could from a ‘living armor’ set in the end…)

  • To give people a chance to collect the armor pieces of the past, a ‘historian’ like character could send the adventurer on a couple of quests to ‘relive’ the story and receive the armor piece reward at the end of the ‘relived’ story.

To me this sounds like a value for money deal, and the Frost Keys (and later other kinds of keys) still add value to the Black Chests. People that want the armor, or just the weapons can get them for a more than reasonable price (seeing they are always available skins for all characters on the account). And for those people that just care about a memorabilia item, also get a cool reward at the end of the story.

In this way you reach ‘all’ kinds of customers, and if I learned anything about economy and keeping a business alive (may be even more applicable for an MMO), it is to have a long term strategy that involves binding customers to you for repeated purchases of good value/quality for money deals.

No consumers, no business.. now you may be able to fool some people some time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time (<- apparently quoted from ‘Bob Marley: Get-up Stand Up’) … So you stay in business by having long term content consumers that keep coming back for more, and that is done by defining the measure of success not in short terms of ROI for shareholders value, but by making sure you give players good value for money. This will turn out to be the ROI in the end anyways, maybe over a more extended period of time, but it will come and it will keep coming!

one time free transfer

A monthly free transfer would be more like it… and an option to pay to do it ‘now’ and how ever many times …

I transferred to a server for an event, in a period that one could server transfer every week … now i can’t get back to my initial home server without paying just because i had other things to do than play the game ?!

The latest patch released around 1:30AM GMT on Friday 29-march reintroduced the Black Screen Issue for me … and i had just fixed it

It’s to late now to get worried about this, but i do hope a new patch will be released to deal with this issue. If anything, it were only 8 files so the problem can be narrowed down a bit …

I am sorry wauwi, but there is no such folder, nothing anywhere close to being called GW2 or GW or anything like that. I will do a search tomorrow to be sure… But i can see what you mean with that folder, as various other programs/games DO have such a folder on that location, just not such a thing for me as far as GW2 is concerned…

Maybe it has something to do with me playing in the beta, as i said, my c:\program files\GW2 ‘folder’ is actually still called c:\program files\GW2beta

As far as the CCleaner advice goes, well it has nothing to do with not trusting you, it’s got more to do with trusting myself ‘not’ screwing it up.

Maybe i should have mentioned i still run WinXP , and the folder you want to point me to does not seem to excist ?

Hmm not sure i feel to confident to mess around with a CCleaner… but if ‘the only thing’ it does is ‘make GW2 apear in the installed programs list’, would i even find something there, cuz besides GW1 i am fairly sure there isn’t anything related to GW2 in that list now … :/

Maybe i should just file a technical support ticket tomorrow, then if anything does go wrong i can blame them :P instead of trying to mess around with it myself …

The latest patch solved my blackscreen issue for a couple of hours … then a crash made it return … so the first thing i would like to do is ‘re-install’ GW2 … but!

As described above, GW2 isn’t realy ‘installed’ on my system, or so it seems, i can’t find it in my configuration/software list, and when i check the c:\program files\GW2Beta folder there is no ‘uninstall GW2’ option to click …

So what do i do ? … Can i just remove the whole folder and will that take care of removing GW2 from my system?

It would be realy annoying if for some reason something would remain on my system that would prevent me from installing GW2 again (and no clue where to go find it). Or less worse, but still mighty annoying, the file/files or settings that are causing my issues remain, and the reinstall thus not fixes anything …

Hopefully somebody can help me out with some pointers, as i am lost, and I rather not ‘screw-up’ and make things worse… tnx in advance …

The same thing happen to me ‘again’ today, the patch solved the blackscreen issue and i could log in straight away, no problems, played for the better part of the evening… then i teamed up with a friend, got a waypoint ping, as i was in LA … used the nearest waypoint … and CRASH including a crashreport … i rebooted my computer and said a lil prairer to the Paletree, but to no avail

the bug is back! after i press [Play] the screen goes black and all is messed up … sigh … for a moment i had hopes i could play the better part of the weekend this time, and mainly for it to be fixed …

@Nerphez , if i knew where to find it, and how to do so, and what the risks are (if any) for the normal operation of my system … then it may solve my issue ‘/shrug’ but i don’t … and i have somewhat already decided that i will remove GW2 from my system and try to reinstall it… hopefully that will do the trick … if not, then i will figure out what the H*** you mean with that sentence and try that :P

@above post, scratch that, while it worked fine for 2 days after installing the latest patch.. a ‘valid’ crash (or atleast a crash that produced a ‘send in report’ feature) made the issue reappear, and i am now still/again unable to get into the game after pressing [Play]

Slim down the Orian offhand weapons

At both above here, when i say ‘slim down’ i mean reduce the bulkyness not the size. The size is actually fine (lenght wize), but wideness of the horns end is so ‘huge’ that it is about as wide as halve my character, and it is sticking out a lot…

So i think you both somewhat misunderstand what i am asking for… i would love to see the wideness reduced not the size (as in the length).

And if you both think the weapon is ‘perfect’ as it is, then you are in luck, most of the ones i say were less then 1 silver, even the high level ones (obviously without any mods, just the bare weapon)

Update, as i discovered something in relation to GW2, i posted this in ‘bugs’ aswel, seeing it seems more software related then computer related…

Now i checked my c:\program files\ and there is a GW2 folder (obviously), but it is still named ‘c:\program files\GW2beta’ … as i haven’t touched GW2 since i installed the beta version and took it from there… When i click the shortcut obviously the program starts running, but i still wonder why my WinXP doesn’t list GW2 as being an installed program, and with that i wonder if it may have something to do with the bug i have been experiencing, maybe something with limited system resource for it not being properly ‘installed’ ?

Some other questions:
- Can i rename the c:\program files\GW2beta folder to c:\program files\GW2 and simply recreate the shortcut to the gw2.exe
- Is there any way to get WinXP to see GW2 as being installed, without actually reinstalling the whole thing again? (i am mainly concerned about the hours of d/l’ing that may take )

And obviously, could this be in any way related to the program not functioning properly?

Blackscreen after [Play] returns after crash

Hello Arena Net,

I was having the blackscreen after [play] ‘bug’ last weekend, untill i downloaded the latest patch on this friday 8march2013, resulting in fixing the bug and I have been able to play on friday and most of tonight (saterday), but then:
The game crashed entirely at the moment i jumped into a portal to goto another map, the game crashed ‘validly’ as it did make an error report, which i send in (at around 00:15h GMT on ‘sunday’ 10 march 2013).

Now when i try to start up the game I end up with exactly the same problem, right after i click [Play] the screen goes black, and it throughs out my GFX driver (as when i check my GFX settings on my second screen it mentions that the driver set is one of a previous windows version, and all settings are like totally messed up, f/e my resolution says its -1/+1 pixels :P ) …

I have attached a Game Advisor Report to this post, Hopefully with that, and the bug report i send in, you may be able to narrow this bug down, and why it reappeared after the crash…

- Another think i can note is that today i was ‘guested’ yesterday i was not, but that didn’t seem to interfere with my gaming experience at all.
- And another thing i found somewhat strange is that usually my ‘daily missions’ restart at 00:00h GMT, today they did not, this may be related to the crash as i stayed in one map for quite a long time (in which time the daily should have reset) then somewhere around 00:15h GMT i mapped to a new area, which resulted in a crash.

Post Your Build Thread

My build is still evolving, largely been concentrating on just playing the game, but this i do with the following build. Also still lvl75

Weaponsets:
1. Axe (Major Precision) & Warhorn Superior Blood (steal life)
2. Axe (+Major Precision) & Torch + Major Flame (AoE flame burst)

  • I like the midrange a lot, the warhorn gives great support, while the torch gives some extra fire and damage combo. The Idea behind +Major Precision is to get the crit chance up, so the effects trigger more often. Both my Axes have the same mod, stacks remain when i swap my weapons.

Utility skills
6. Healing: Spring (this way i can heal my allies aswell)
7. Fire Trap (for damage)
8. Spike Trap (for damage and cripple)
9. Lightning reflexes (extra dodges, and breakstun)
10. Elite: Sylvari racial, Take root (invul. and 5 turrets)

Being midrange the traps are used either to try and stop critters from going for the backline, or i roll in and back to lay traps at the Foes feet. The Spring also doubles as a combo to heal the front line with water pickup.

Traits:
1. Marksman 10 – +10% dam. when endurance is full
2. Skirmish 30 – 5sec vigor when hit with crit, 10% more dam. with Axe, trapeffect last longer and traps recharge faster.
3. Wilderness 20 – gain vigor when using a heal, offhand longer range and faster recharge
4. Nature 10 – regeneration applied last 33% longer
*Obviously with corresponding passive traits, but not listed..

Mainly buffs to damage, recharges, and healing… On the list to perhaps change out,
is the offhand training, for ‘oak skin’ for even more survivability.

Pets.
1. Hyena, esp. for the F2 skill, summon ally Hyena, an extra body comes in very handy when in a larger fight.
2. Still testing the waters, going from Moa, to Spider, sometimes a bird (esp. if i am traveling and don’t want a big pet in my screen).

The biggest ‘problem’ with this (or any other) Ranger redesign is the ‘fact’ that the Ranger needs to appeal to a very diverse crowd. Most likely the most diverse of all the professions, where you think the Ranger is not a tree and pet hugging hippy (like others think aswell), there is atleast a similar sized group that do think the Ranger should be a Tree and Pet hugging Hippy…

You have the more Tracking kind of Rangers, there are those that want more shamanistic kinds of rangers, there are those that want a Pet-Ranger tag team setup. And those that would just like to strap some bombs to their pets and send them off into a crowd while they blast away with their musket. And if i didn’t include ‘your’ style Ranger in this short summary (this adressed to whom ever may read this), then I am sorry, but see this as the ‘proof’ that the Ranger needs to adress so many different ideas of what a Ranger is, that it is hard to choose one over the other …

Both are quite extensive, and somewhat old, still most of it still applies (in my views) to the ranger. Though seeing some of it is old, some skills or effects are no longer viable as they are used by Racial effects (like vines for the sylvari). Some of the current skills are fine or better then suggestions and still follow the ‘theme’ laid out in the first post i linked.

So hmm yeah, i still think just changing something here and there isn’t the route to take. If one wants to realy change something then start ‘a new’, and re-use what fits the now clearer view of the Ranger and its intended purpose aswell as it’s flaws. And use the new analysis and goals to strengthen the profession. Balancing is a continious effort and sure some of the things can be solved by a +1 or -1 here and there, but ‘if’ there is a structural fault in the profession (not related to mechanics), then perhaps the start-out ruleset wasn’t good enough for what it intended to do … that is a learning process it’s no fault or mayor miss, the game evolved and what’s demanded from the profession evolved … there is only one thing to do, re-evaluate, start anew, and reuse what you can, to then fill in the blanks and improve.

My suggestion: Slim the orrian offhand weapons down to more reasonable proportions, so they become a true viable visual appealing option…


Arguments
I am not sure about the mainhand weapons … (didn’t look into them), but:

The Orian offhand weapons have a pretty nifty effect on them, with the water spilling… But, when looking into a new Torch or Horn last night i noticed these two weapons are REALY bulky. While i liked the general appeal of them, the bulkyness just put me off …

And apparently i am not the only one, as i noticed the prices on these higher end (atleast in level) weapons were actually lower then the cookie cutter designed ones (with same specs). So even though the weapons have a cool water spilling effect, people do not like ‘the design’ and as such are not buying them, leading to low prices…

And i say ‘the design’ in quotes because it’s not realy the design that puts me off, they look realy decent, but the size or bulkyness … they are thicker then half of my character, meaning they start clipping with armor, and they stick out so far that its near rediculous.

This exact thing happens to me too, the game goes to ‘non-responsive’ after pressing [PLAY] … screen goes black … after pressing [Crtl][Alt][Del] i can only use my secondairy monitor and when i check my monitor(s) it gives me a warning that the drivers currently loaded are made for a prior windowsversion … so basically i knocks out the latest NVidea drivers I installed (hoping to fix this problem, and yes i had it b4 installing the latest drivers aswell) …

Now i had this problem b4, but a reboot usually fixed this, currently though (after the latest patch) that doesn’t even work. What i realy miss:

- A way to set the gfx settings prior to loading the game. So that i can try and see if setting them to all minimum fixes logging in, and so that i can turn up stuff as i go … right now i just feel frustrated for not getting into the game, and no way to test/see what is going on ?!

Hello Gaile, i know this topic is just for somewhat ‘overdue’ support tickets, but i sort of have an urgency seeing i am volunteering during PinkDay in LA which is happening comming saturday… My account has been blocked for a false-positive gold selling offense…

A spam email I recieved came with a 1 copper coin attached to it, and i could not return the copper to the sender (likely due to the account already having been removed for gold selling). So the only way to delete the email was to accept the copper, to then be able to delete the dang email. (best sollution would be to allow deletion of emails containing items and having a ‘are you sure’-notice attached to it).

So now my account is blocked and ‘if’ i wait for 3 days it’s going to be saturday, and i won’t be able to help out during Pink Day in LA. Hence i wanted to ask if it’s possible to drop my ticket number here (121017-000204) and if you don’t have any more pressing tickets to deal with, if you could check up on my issue so that i can do my ‘duty’ during PinkDay.

@Eveningstar, instead of a ‘gallery’ i would suggest going for a ‘collage’. Obviously you would pick one shot to be the center piece of the collage, to then place around it (in which ever fashion) various shots from other angles. To then send in the collage as one image. This prevents having to go through a whole gallery, and it gives you the opportunity to still portait your 3D sculpture in all it’s glory.

- Most important rule of thumb, make sure the center picture is large enough to show off your work…

- Most important rule of experience, make sure you make a TON of pictures from a TON of angles! Be like a paparazi in a sense. Also think of about all sorts of different lighting angles. This will make it that much easier for yourself to actually pick the right photo(s) in the end.

- Most important rule of presentation, depending on your 3D piece, you may want to decorate ‘around’ your work of art. A 3D piece on a kitchen table (while it may be a cool piece) is less attractive than putting that same piece in a decorated area.

I would take a good look around when you do those events, if there is nobody around than there is nobody being effected (obviously). But if there are people around then yes they may well be effected because they have no chance to contribute to the event, as it’s over before they have a chance.

Still though, it is hard to give advice on this, i would personally pick a weaponset & utilities that offer a more 1on1 fighting style, you may still 3hit each foe, but atleast it’s going 1 foe at a time… on the other hand, it may well reduce the amount of karma you are able to gather in a specific time, as the event takes a bit longer due to it…

In the end it’s up to you , still though bringing it up here is a good start, as it may well mean that Anet might have to take a look at the scaling down mechanism, maybe something isn’t working properly

Just some advice for the next time you want to be honest, write it all down in a text editor and leave it for a few days. Then come back and remove all the frustration and powertalk. While i do agree that most of these things are annoying, the way you make it sound like it’s the end of the world and the excessive use of powerspeech makes it air more like one big QQ post. Due to which i have a hard time wanting to agree with you…

I rather like my personal story, though in a sense maybe i do not, see my personal story confronted me with the heroic death of a character i kindoff grew fond off, which pretty much had me tear up and i think as a consequence of some emotional griefing i have not played in over a week … … In part i blame my tearing up to being rather tired at the time, but i can’t deny that the feeling of grief is preventing me from wanting to play :/

I fully and entirely agree with the OP … ‘but’ i would like to add something to his conclusion/sollutions.

4. Redesign the crafting recipies at high(er) levels to also include lower level items that can not be gathered in Orr.

This can go right along with the ‘make drops in the entire world relevant for the lvl of the player’, with the exception of material drops. This would give these higher level players incentive to go to other area’s, or to the market place. Both would benefit the lower level players, either with support during content, or in monetary gain.

In a sense this is due to the setup of the crafting system as a whole (and one of my biggest gripe with the crafting setup), and resembles the ‘issue’ that the OP (and others) are experiencing in GW2, it’s all linear and and all moving towards high/end level. All the tiers in crafting materials make it realy dull, and once you moved passed a certain material it is pretty much worthless. but i guess going deep into this issue is more suited for another part of the forum…

I would like to see nr.5 in the OP changed:

5. If you can’t talk IRL politics or religion with gentle(wo)man’s respect, do not talk about it at all.

Mainly because I personally think that these topics are supposed to be talked about, where it generally goes wrong is the lack of respect people have for the opposite or different point of view. Thus it is not so much the subject that is the problem, it’s the lack of gentle(wo)man behavior… Biggest issue here is though, politicians themselves seem to lack this general understanding of human interaction, and entirely give off the wrong example (especially during election time), so if you see any politician or party sink to the level of ‘adhominin’ they are not worthy of your vote. On-subject discussion with good argumentation is what we need, if only for setting an example for humanity as a whole…

I also made sure i put IRL in the guideline, as it is fairly clear that politics and religion are to be talked about in the ingame sense. In fact, it would be quite entertaining to see a discussion between the races about the subject of religion. The same would apply though…

No Halloween Event!

While i fully understand the sentiment about the bugs (and i am sure an even bigger frustration about them is circling around the Anet office) … this is actually a weird suggestion.

It is not so much that it’s likely that 2 teams are working on content and bugs though, i guess you can describe it as such, but Anet is divided up in ‘functional’ departments. The general area’s of these departments are:
- Writing (general lore & story, dialoges)
- Art Department (concept art, modeling & texturing (world), modeling/texturing/animations (working entities))
- Sound Department (sounds, dialogues)
- Content Department (Using the DE-builder to make working content)
- Programming Departement (engine coding, server-client coding)
- QA (Quality assurance)
- Community & Communications (website devs/design, community managers)
- Overhead (all sorts of administration)

Now while some of the people working in these departments may know a thing or two about how to do work in the other departments, it’s more likely they are experts in their own field. The general throughput of ‘new’ content would be…

- The lore & Art team, come up with the story of this new area and make Concept Art to capture the written world in pictures.
- To make this new area world builders, lore & content design (what goes in this new area), work together to design a cool area that has location for the intended content.
- IF new entities are needed for this area (buildings, trees, etc) the Art department Modeling & texturers are used to make these buildings of ‘fixed’ entities.
- Content Design would then fill this area with critters, Hearts, DE’s, using the Content-builder.
- The content builders usually writes the concept dialog for his/her own DE/Hearts/Cinematics. This gets forwarded to the writing department, for polish. After an OK (also on spelling), it gets implemented into the event..
- IF a new type of critter is needed, the art-department Modeling/Texturing/Animations make this new NPC, creature, boss, w/e…
- If any new functionality is needed that is not yet covered by the Contentbuilder (f/e skill effects) the programming department may code this functionality into the engine.
- During this process QA is involved to test the actual created stuff. So when the world is done they are likely let loose in this area to go and find any broken borders, any hills not meant to be climbed etc… When content gets done, they try and break these events in a way they think might break it… if anything is broken they report about it at the department that made the thing broken, so they can fix it.

If you read all this you likely noticed i used all the departments in their respected area’s of expertise. So this is how the whole game was effectively build. Now we look at the Skill Challenges and Halted DE’s, the people involved in this would be. The QA team, trying to find where this event breaks. After this it will largely depend on what it is that makes them break, to determain whom needs to be involved. The Coding department is likely doing the same thing, but they look at the ‘matrix’ code to find any faults. That is just 2 departments that, ‘looking from the view point of adding new content to excisting area’s (like holiday events), have hardly anything to do with creating this new content. And from the departments involved in creating new content, in only a limited amount of cases they are actually involved in fixing bugs…

So what you are asking it that more than half of the company stops doing their work so that others can fix the bugs?!

I hope you learned something from my time writing all this down, it’s not just Anet that has such a departemental devide, mainly because the actual expertises involved in making games are ‘devided up’ as such…

I have to agree here, well maybe not on the length of the night (as with the current setup i have no clue of how long it actually takes :/ ) … but for as far as the ‘darkness’ of the night goes, YES! i could so be much darker at night, it would realy add to the atmosphere of the game and likely the tension at night

If it’s instanced missions you want why not go and do some story quests with your guild? As far as i know this is content that is readily available, and there is nothing preventing you from running it with a group, as far as i know ‘events’ in these story quests also scale to reflect the amount of people in the instance, and they also have scaling implemented, so everybody in the guild (regardless of level) can join in, while story rewards are for the person the story belongs to, the people in the group are still rewarded for their contributions, atleast the kills/drops (though i am not entirely sure if they get a XP/Karma reward at the end of the story step)

@Clord, in the end though, Anet doesn’t make money off of people that buy gems with in game gold (well obviously somebody else bought those gems with actual cash, but still) …

I also want to mention that i fully agree with the OP, if i hadn’t ran into this thread i would have likely posted about this myself… As i too find some of the costs for ingame consumables absurd, so much so that there seems to be no value for the money you spend, and thus these items may as well not be sold, as it’s fairly likely they are not getting sold. It’s not that the items suck, but the value for them expressed in reallife cash is just totally out of whack!

And like the OP, this has been one of the reasons why i have shunned away from buying gems. I am currently thinking about using ingame cash, if i can spare it (due to the infrequent times i play) …

Another reason why i have to agree with the OP is due to the fact that digital goods hardly have any reproduction costs. You make the item once, and there after it’s just copy/paste… which makes the costs of some items in regards to both value and production costs so rediculous that it somewhat agrivates me …

And the last reason i have to agree with the OP is due to the fact that the economy of scale plays a large part in Ingame Shops. The potential market is so large that even for a low price, profit can be huge due to the large available market and in regards to cool consumables rebuy potential…

One example realy stood out for me, and that is the ‘box of fun’, this item should likely not cost more than $0.25-0.40 per shot, if not less… At those prices i am convinced more people would use them, and thus more would get bought… with the apparent low costs of producing the item, and already having made it … I know i will likely never buy one of these if the price isn’t reduced to reflect the above situation in regards to this item. I am a big fan of GW2, i am crazy about the game, but that doesn’t mean i am actually crazy !

Hiya Mighteous, i agree on the weapons thing, i run into that aswell, and it’s quite annoying. It be nice if there was some way to indeed link items to bags, seeing this mostly applies to the weapons you use and the ‘invisible/safe’-bags, it should likely be an option reserved for that particular bag…

ps. In regards to your second suggestion, i would like to ask you to split it off into it’s own thread, that way discussion can stay on one topic, and the idea isn’t bad either, so it deserves it’s own thread
