[Suggestion] Join Best Shard

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

I don’t know how hard would it be to implement that, but I believe it would be much better than the “taxi” business going on.

Basically, there would be 2 options, “Join Best Shard”, where you join a map which is sufficiently full and still close to you so you don’t get through-the-roof ping, and “Join Largest Shard”, where you join the fullest shard available.

This would make more Teqs and TTTs succeed because it would be easier to get to a map with enough people.

1. You can get good gear without RNG. Some gear is RNG or grind, but it only has a cosmetic difference from the regular gear.
2. Levels come really easy. You can reach lvl 80 in a few days if you’re dedicated, and 1-2 weeks at a relaxed pace.
3. It’s pretty wow compared to other mmos around.
4. There’s no gear that will put you miles above the other players in terms of stats. Full exotics is where you can safely stop unless you want to run high-level fractals where you need ascended gear. This tier requires a lot of grinding, but aside from the fractals, it’s just about 10% stat upgrade from exotic.
5. There’s no pay2win, everything in the gem store is either convenience items, boosters or cosmetic items. There is no way to gain unfair advantage in PvP through gem store.
6.
- You have to pay gems for any Living Story episodes you missed. Living Story is basically the plot progression. You don’t need Living Story to access the new areas, but some of the achievement rewards are unique.
- There is a rigid meta for PvE.
- A large portion of the playerbase dislikes the trait unlocking system.
7. Yes it does. Reaching lvl 80 is easy, but there are hundreds of achievements to get, gear sets to assemble and titles to claim.

I don’t see CoD guns ever making it in.
There are three primary types of guns in the game:

- Flintlock-like guns – justified because the humans are at this level of tech right now.
- Energy-like guns – justified because asura have the magitech theme with flashy lightning bolts and runes.
- Gritty spiky iron guns – fits the steampunk charr technology.

The modern weaponry fits none of these themes, thus it should not be in the game.

I really don’t want GW2 to become like this teacher in school who says you solved a problem wrong because “we do not use this method yet”. Even if the teacher is justified because you arguably have to learn this specific method and not the others, the game is not.

Right: “So far you’ve been defeating enemies by spamming 1, but here’s a guy that hits really hard, so if you have not discovered it yet, you can dodge by double-tapping the movement key.”
Wrong: “You cannot use this game mechanic yet because we feel like another button on top of the 5 you already know is going to overwhelm you. We care about your playing experience.”

There’s a fine line between “not flashing a ton of different tooltips in a player’s face” and “you can’t weapon swap before we let you”

I see it so that each location represents the flow of the story at the different portions of time. Of course, it would be good for the “immersion” and “integrity” that everything stays changed when it’s changed, but it does not work that way primarily because it’s an MMO. For every player who witnessed change, there are ten who did not. It’s either that or they pull an Episode 1, leaving anyone and everyone who didn’t happen to have the game at this particular time in the cold.

To finish, yes that’s just the point. It needs some more balancing to fit the most of types of players. Not everyone wants or can spend a lot of time finding their way through a fight just to progress the story. Give hard contents for those who really want hard content. Don’t make it a requirement for everyone.

Implying you actually have to complete this episode. If you want lore without challenge, read the wiki, ask those who already did it, watch youtube, etc.

in Players Helping Players

Ascimator.6735

Well, a lot of stuff can be done.

  • Explore the map
  • Participate in dynamic events, including the epic-tiered world bosses
  • Complete renown hearts (part of exploring technically)
  • Gather materials
  • Craft items
  • Complete the instanced Personal Story
  • Complete dungeons
  • Participate in world-vs-world-vs-world combat
  • Participate in structured team PvP
  • Participate in minigame activities
  • Participate in guild missions
  • Finish jumping puzzles
  • Collect achievements

Most of this stuff gives you XP and gear. Gear is similar stat-wise, but has different looks depending on its source.

Why are precursors not ascended

in Crafting

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

Precurs are much rarer and more expensive to get than a your typical ascended weapons. Raising their status to ascended won’t affect the price or their drop rate. Prices are driven by demand and rarity.

Why do it at all? There’s like a 5% difference, and you most likely wouldn’t waste your resources on an ascended weapon if you were going to get a legendary anyway.

The combat suits would be pretty easy to implement as environmental weapons during big fights. Don’t really think they need to be more complex. People would either farm to use them all the time if they are significantly stronger than a player, or they would be ignored otherwise.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

So, I’ve just read over the requirements for unlocking everything. I like the idea behind this change, but the execution is… well… terrible.

You can no longer ‘choose how you play’, as you are given a roadmap of things to accomplish that are so specific that Anet may as well have just set up invisible walls to keep us from going off the path.

Seriously, I was looking forward to seeing how the new system worked (even deleted one of my lowbies to experience the new system), and now I’m unsure if I even want to keep playing anything besides my previous 80’s.

Now, I’m done with complaints. I have one suggestion that I believe could fix most peoples problems with this system.

Make the requirements more general.

I’m okay with asking people to finish a leg of their personal quest. But, how about instead of telling us a specific area to 100% explore… You just tell us to 100% explore ANY area other than the racial cities? Maybe instead of “take specific point in WvW”, just make an adept unlock “take A point in WvW”.

That’s all I got. If something isn’t done to these requirements, I don’t think I’m playing any more alts… more importantly, though… I don’t think I could recommend this game to new players.

Either make the requirements more general, or make it so that you get a choice of events to unlock specific traits. No one really should be forced into WvW to unlock a trait. It’s sort of silly. No one should have to run a dungeon.

For me it doesn’t matter, because I play all content in the game, and I’m happy to do pretty much anything, but I think this will throw a lot of people off who have a narrower comfort zone.

There are 3 ways to unlock traits currently – you can stumble upon the unlock naturally while playing, pursue a specific trait unlock or buy it with gold and skillpoints. I think that’s quite enough. There are some unlock reqs which are really out of the way/frustrating to obtain, though.

Why are precursors not ascended

in Crafting

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

If precursors are a piece that leads up to creating a legendary and Im pretty sure other gifts are of legendary quality, why isn’t the precursor an ascended weapon? If you were truly to RP the game, the precursor would be the most powerful weapon (non-stat wise) that is not the Legendary weapon, and you would probably use it until you got your legendary. I know that before ascended gear was introduced, legendaries had exotic stats, but now, with ascended, there would be NO REASON to even use a precursor, it would sit in your bank til you use it or sell it.

First, changing the rarity and stats of the precursors would wreck havoc in the market.
Second, your statement implies that everyone who gets precursors already has the corresponding ascended weapon.

Is RNG connected to classes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

It’s not a class thing, or a damage thing, but the variance you’re seeing is very real.

As far as I can tell when you roll a toon it is randomly assigned a luck “seed” that makes for its base luck, and then you’re MF piles on top of (or maybe underneath) that seed.

So it is entirely possible to have one toon be extremely unlucky, and another extremely lucky. You hear stories of people getting Dusk twice on the same Arah run, while I do not have first hand experience a friend of mine was on a run with someone who did (could the guy have been lying through his teeth? technically yes there is the possibility).

My own experiments support the possibility however. I put two of my toons at the end of the same JP for just under two months and opened the chest with each every day. The results were pretty drastic.
~90% of the time my warrior got 2 greens, and 2 gemstones/crests
~90% of the time my ele got only 2 greens
The warrior also got 1 exotic and about 6/7 rares
The Ele? Nothin but green
A small sample size to be sure, but added to the experiments of friends of mine (with a lot more money to throw at it) indicate very strongly that different characters have different amounts of luck outside the account bound MF.
It also indicates that whatever anet might say about MF affecting chests/bags/other loot sources, it does affect at least some of them (or at least the luck seed does)

As a second example, in the pavilion, comparing my Guardian and Engie.
Opening roughly 100 champ bags each my Engie got 8 exotics and about 12 rares.
My guardian? 1 rare.

People can quote anet all they like, but for how long did we tell them MF was broken with them swearing up and down everything was perfectly fine only to find out….oh, no it wasn’t perfectly fine? Honestly I don’t really trust them to know what does and doesn’t work the way they think it does, not anymore.

Oh dear, another unlucky account conspiracy follower.

I would love them to up the damage from the lasers about 5000% so that this tactic was no longer viable.

Again, good groups will kill the golems before they get touched by the lasers, while bad groups will be stuck there forever.

I’m not entirely sure of how hard those things hit, but increasing their damage as much as you suggested would probably cause them to oneshot anyone and then every casual/bad player would cry about it being too hard. Hue.

Well, that means less bad players in our pugs. I find it much easier to hamsterwheel around. Besides, this way the golem will actually move around and will get hit less.

why should we settle for something that is not as good as we had before. Ya ever heard the saying if it isn’t broken then don’t fix it. That was one part of the game that was fine and did not need fixing. So why should we settle for something less than we had before.

Oh, you wouldn’t believe how often things like that happen in every sphere of life. Slightly better than demanding more and more until your natural human greed can’t be satisfied.
As I’ve said, I don’t see how the SP/silver cost for a newbie is so insurmountable, unless they are completely unable of planning ahead and mapping out a general way they want to play their character. And most of the people I see complaining (I really want to use a harsher word because it fits better, but I’ve been warned once already) are on their 2nd-5th chars, have enough gold (do you REALLY need every single trait?), have access to leveling/SP tomes and are generally more experienced, allowing them to plan ahead better and buy only the traits they know are good.
It also would not really be repelling for a newbie to discover they can’t unlock this one major trait yet. Most likely they will either scrounge up 2sp and how much silver again it was or will be patient. Unless, of course, some heartbroken lvl 80 walks up to them and whispers “pssst, quit this game, you don’t deserve the world to be SO CRUEL”. You are only complaining because it’s been easier for you before.
Besides, if you want to test different builds, there’s this shiny mode called sPvP where you can tinker with every trait without any effort and test them out on dummies and NPCs.
tl:dr: the new change does not really harm neither newbies nor veterans, the only reason of 29 pages here is because people have accepted the mentality of “ANET WHY DONT YOU LISTEN TO US!?” instead of adapting.

This is what happens when you feed trolls. They keep coming back for more.

No intention of trolling here, though I do see now that debating with you is useless. If I was truly intending to troll, I wouldn’t feel like I wasted my time.
