Besides, gay pairings are a minority and I see no reason for them to not be a minority in Tyria.

You mean other than the fact that Tyria is a fictional fantasy universe who’s culture and history is completely different than our own?

Earth =/= Tyria. The ratio of straight to gay relationships is whatever the writers decide is appropriate.

This fact means only that the ratio MAY be different, and provides no specific examples of why it is so (except sylvari).

It would be fine as long as it doesn’t look forced and token. If the relationship is not relevant to the story, it should not be “OH BTW WE ARE GAY” spotlighted. Yes, I’m aware that hetero pairings do that a lot, but it’s not an excuse to repeat their fault.

The big problem are Mordrem themselves: they’re beyond boring lore wise. They look nicer that the undead, but they’re still a bunch of evil things that want to kill you. They don’t talk, they don’t have conflicting thoughts, they just whack stuff until it stops whacking them back. This forces the Pact into being a bunch of generic good guys, because when things try to kill you you can only kill them back, with little in-between. I suppose now we’ve got corrupted Sylvari to kill, as well, but brainwashed puppets don’t make for particularly interesting antagonists, either.

Lol, if you’re looking for a compelling story in a T-rated MMO, you’re going to be looking for a long, long time.

M rating is all about sex, drugs and brutal violence. That’s it. Sex, drugs and brutal violence aren’t required to make a villain interesting.

They are aspects of the real world, though, and omitting them implies either that it’s forced because of the rating (preventing us from exploring the influence of these aspects on Tyria) or that these problems have been, somehow, solved (and we don’t know how).

*Masteries (from what I gained they’re only unlocked by playing the new areas anyway)

Pay-locking things like the precursors would impact the economy since not everyone would have the same access to the supply, for example.

But if Taimi’s theory turns out to be true, the one where all the vines we’ve seen taking over zones and areas are just extensions of Mordremoth itself, I think it could be safe to assume that it’s possibly going to be the largest creature Tyria will ever see.

To think of it, that reminds of a fungus colony somewhere that spans an entire forest and is technically the same organism.

Yes, for example there are people that think they are entitled to exclusive rewards or content aimed only at the small minority they are part of.
Funny how that argument works both ways, right?

Except it doesn’t, because it requires effort in the first place to be a part of said minority. People are not born with computer games skills.

I believe that certain items should have pseudo-RNG instead. For every time a reward does not drop, the chance increases slightly until it does. Of course, this would not apply to every RNG drop in the game. It would, however, reduce the Carapace Coat frustration and the like. It would be most fitting for account bound items, I believe, since there is no alternative way to get them.

It’s only hard if you want the achievements, in my PoV. You can walk out of arm swats and the head chomp if you’re out of combat (did this on my mesmer, no swiftness, no passive speed increase). The best timing to start lighting the fire is right after dodging the chomp, because the chomp interrupts you through the shield and the swats don’t. You can get rid of the bombs by walking right in between of them. This boss, unlike others, actually did not one-shot my full zerk mesmer, so I don’t think it’s about damage.

I know that there is a group of players who just can’t be bothered to learn as they have no time to spend on games. With all due respect, please deal with it.

Why?
It was literally do thing x to to force boss into state a, do thing y to make boss attackable, attack boss until 50% repeat thing x with 1 small additional “mechanic” (2 waves falling stones) to force him into state a again and after that you do y again with a small additional mechanic you can attack him and then you are done.

I’m pretty sure that’s how 95% of all bossfights in the history of videogames go. Press buttons in a sequence to defeat a harder enemy. That does not mean that all of them are good or that all of them are bad, though.

The last two achievements I have yet to complete (Shrubsplosives and Rock Dodger) are annoying enough. These achievements, of the “misstep-and-fail” kind, need better retryability (retriability? retriablebility?), in my opinion.

Then they let get the whole pact fleet get literally get slaughtered and shreddered into thousands of pieces, basically standing absolutely no chance against these huge vines, for those are even the biggest air ships in that scene like freaking tiny TOYS to play with…. and kill off basically in that scene everyone including Logan, Eir, Zojja and Trahearne… – come on, be real, as if anyone of them could have survived that, when Mordremoth destroyed their air ships high in the sky right under their feets away in an blink of an eye…
They all would have to be supernatural beings, if anyone of them would have actually survived that mass slaughter.

You’re grossly underestimating the protective properties of Plot Armor.

I’d say they lost all benefits of plot armor when they went “alright son, I’ll spend some time with you later” and “oh hey, I’m a sarcastic asura mostly bitter about everything but you’re cool” and “well PC, we’re not gonna wait until you return from your sidequest, it’s not like we are useless without you”.

This felt more like a “kill monster to unlock next cutscene” thing, and I totally dislike that.

Kill these monsters and go here to continue the story…..

Isn’t that 99% of all RPGs though, including MMO’s?

(Yeah, cliffhanger was disappointing, they always are.)

Same here problem here. Couldn’t get the flame, NPCs were behind the wall and I was inside running for my life….

Rox throws the Divine Fire into the battlefield from outside. Look for the glowing whitish circles.

Oh, I saw those white circles after a while and noticed that I can light a fire on the cogs even if I do not see a torch equipped – after I had died a bazillion times. The problem is that it is impossible to light the fire. I get hit every 3-4 seconds by something so I get interrupted all the time. I had to take a break due to frustration.

You should wait for Braham to put a shield on one of the interaction points. It prevents the arm attacks from knocking you down (but not the burrow attack).

it still does prove that the asura warrior could reasonably disable the norn warrior’s asuratech weapons/armor.

Disabling a golem and disabling a weapon are different things. We cant see any examples of that in game.

We can’t see the asura mind-controlling an Elder Dragon in-game. That does not mean it’s impossible.

As for the Inquest+dredge dilemma, I’d say that:
1. Inquest might be too arrogant to be worried that these primitive mole-commies can copy their tech.
2. Killswitches.

Regarding asura tech and gadgets specifically – asura are notorious for keeping their technology secret, from a paradoxical mix of paranoia about others stealing their inventions and an arrogant belief that no non-asura could understand how it works. Even when the asura are providing their tech to someone else, such as to the Pact or one of the nations, they also provide asura technicians so that it’s never operated by non-asura.

Selling ready-to-use weapons and selling technology is different things. As example, we can see SE, where Inquest have no problems with selling their tech to dredge.

Also for killer-switch commentary above – it’s very unlikely that one asura will know security secrets of another. They not trusting each other.

That didn’t stop Kudu from casually instakilling Mr. Sparkles in the personal story.

There is a reason why almost no one heard IRL legends about mighty midget warriors.

That reason would be that IRL dwarfism is a genetic condition, not the natural state of the race, derived from millenia of evolution and all.
Besides, “What if their weapons were equally strong and they fought 1vs1 on a flat plateau without any fancy stuff like ambushes and adapting their tactics against one another” is one thing and real combat is another. One solution to “what if the norn got some weapons from asura” scenario would be for the asura opponent to use some sort of a killswitch to disable the tech.

And what exactly will stop norn/charr warrior from getting same enhancements (buy from asuran lab as example) and maintain their superiority over asura warrior?

Let’s assume that there are enough strength enhancements provided to both of them that they are roughly equal. The asura still is a smaller target.

In “reality” though, between two equally skilled Warriors, an Asura would have zero chance of defeating a Norn in combat unless the Asura had some kind of extra advantage such as a Power Suit to make up for the Norn’s much greater size and strength.

Intelligent and agile fighting also counts for something you know.

Is that why all fighting sports are dividing contestants by IQ and not weight?

[Suggestion] Put precursors in the gem store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

As it was already said numerous times, what we have now and what OP is proposing is not the same. Yes, we can already buy precursors with credit card => gems => gold. However, right now the price of the precursors is controlled by the flow of the market. If they were put in the gem store, either the price would be more or less fixed, or the gem exchange would crash. And if the price is fixed, this means prices of other things will change drastically.
As far as I know, right now the only options on the gem store are:
– Buy an item that is not dropped elsewhere
– Buy an item you can’t trade to anyone
– Buy gold

That means that currently, there’s no way to simply generate a new item in the economy. All items you can buy with gold have either dropped to someone else, entering the economy legitimately, or cannot drop at all and have been bought by someone else. I an no economist, but I believe there is a very good reason for that.

Imagine: if GW2 had no level progression

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ascimator.6735

Ascimator.6735

It would be simple, honestly.

1) Queensdale and equivalent areas are the tutorial areas. Each would need hearts, vistas, a JP, some dynamic events and a world boss.

2) The remaining areas progress in terms of difficulty – as you progress through the world, mobs have build/ai that are gradually better – with proper use of traits, weapon swap, dodging, etc as you advance. Queensdale would have it’s current bandits, with their limited kitten nal. Orr would have meta-build enemies, patrolling in groups. You either get good, get a party, or get dead. The zones in-between would have appropriate levels of difficulty. You could colour code the zones – white, blue, green, yellow, gold.

3) Traits – the current trait system sucks and blows, but could be fixed simply by placing traits in their respective zones. All adept traits would come from the current 15-25 zones. Master traits the current 25-55 zones. Grandmaster traits would come from Orr and FGS/Southsun. You would unlock each tier as you enter into a zone of the respective difficulty. (Perhaps as you completed mapping of a zone of the previous difficulty level?)

4) Keep the current gear setup – white, blue, green, yellow, gold, pink, purple. Crafting/gear becomes the major form of progression, and for the vast majority, once you’ve gotten exotics, you’re set for anything.

This all presumes that the NPE is essentially done away with, in favour of a proper tutorial in the starter zones.

That would be a game that is a proper sequel to GW1, and one I would gladly support.

I doubt this would actually solve the problem of dead maps. Most people would gather in either the hardest or the most profitable maps, with just a trickle of newbies populating Queensdale and even less in the areas directly after.

Leveling in EotM is very effective if you just want levels/karma/bags, yet equally as effective in killing your leveling experience. I advise against that.
I suggest that you start 100% exploring the map, from your starting areas to midgame to Orr/Frostgorge, depending on your preferences. This is the best way to see everything the devs made for you. In my opinion, it would be a waste of money to have a world full of landscapes, activities and people and run around the same map as a part of a mindless blob instead of exploring everything.
40 gold is a nice amount, probably enough to help you level your crafting and purchase the stuff you want for your thief and then some.

1. I don’t know why people say there is any gemstore-locked content. The living story episodes you missed is the only think I can think of, and since gems can be purchased with gold you don’t even need to spend real money.
2. I don’t see how you could have missed the crafting system since one of the first items you would loot would be a crafting material that basically screams “crafting”. There’s also this “Hero” window with a tab called “Crafting”, but I guess you don’t really like to explore what’s given to you without a prompt, which leads us to point 3.
3. Judging from your general attitude, this doesn’t seem like the game you would enjoy, especially in the current state of the NPE. Still, if you’re willing to plow through your first 20-30 levels, you get dungeons, which are arguably more interesting than overworld PvE.

It seems they don’t, as in that case no one would need to taxi as they would already be in the fullest map. The popup only appears once your map is close to deserted.
