How can we get out of this bunker meta?

in PvP

The alternative to bunker meta is burst meta, and I’d rather not go back to that. I’ll take a hard to kill bunker over fights ending in less than 5 seconds any day of the week.

What do you guys think about Dungeon Sellers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

1) People always try and sell this rubbish in open world. I use open world all the time, and I’d rather not have this nonsense plastered at the top whenever I look at it.

2) Dungeons are meant to be group content, stuff you actually work towards… Rewards lose all meaning if any fool with 5 gold can just come along and purchase them.

Why not just sell it for gold directly from the dungeon merchant? Because its almost the same thing. These rewards were meant to take effort, not to just be bought.

Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Atharian.7092

Gearing up my main has been enough of an issue, thanks to the market revolving around bolts of damask. If they mandate having Ascended for raids, then they need to make it more accessible. None of this time limit rubbish, and none of this “go and farm materials from level 10 zones” nonsense. End game gear should take end game materials.

PVP League Badges.

Badges should definitely be shown in the lobby, if not what’s the point? As for matches, if people object to displaying them during the game just make them visible as soon as it ends. By the way, it would be really nice to be able to view our previous match statistics (plus badges for both teams) after we get booted from the game. I really like the new information but the time we get to view it is far too short.

I agree with this. People often like to keep PvPing after the game is over, and of course I’ll jump in because that is what I’m here for. This usually means that I’ll miss out on the stats screen because I’m busy trying to settle an unfinished duel or something.

Badges in both places thanks. We aren’t children, sometimes people are mean for a million different reasons, and it would be bad play anyway to target somebody just because they had a lot of badges.

With respect, many people are children, or at least act like ones, when it comes to this kind of stuff… By far, most gaming communities are actually rather hostile.

Of course there are downsides. You make good points, but don’t be so arrogant. I have seen plenty of games where a person who is lowest ranked on a team will be blamed for a loss and cussed out, all over something they had no control over. No one is pretending it won’t be useful, but there are legitimate concerns out there as well.

A fair point. This was just a situation where I felt I was put in a game that was far above my skill level. Being irritated at the time, I blamed it on an opponent being much higher rank, haha. But yes, you make a good point, I was just bothered by that game.

Amount of "story" coming with HOT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Atharian.7092

Atharian.7092

I will not be thrilled if the story ends up being a part of a raid or something. Why? Sometimes I like to read dialogue, watch the cutscenes, etc. I’d like to do that the first time at least. In raids or dungeons though, its rush rush rush, skip skip skip.

I only have an issue when its 4 v 5. In that scenario, yes, give me a surrender. Even better if its one without a loss. Just have it pop up if a player is afk for 3 minutes or so.

Well, I’m at wolf rank, and I just went up against a dragon. I’m sorry, but if that happens, then some part of your matching is clearly busted. Even if my win rate is a little over 50%, I should not be going up against people with 40 ranks on me.

why u say that it was a 1vs 1? the MMR its about the hole team

Am I at the level of a dragon ranked player? No, I’m not. Thus, I do not wish to be matched against one. MMR might be about the whole team, but it was still a frustrating experience for me that I’d rather avoid. I’m clearly not at that kind of skill level.

Day 1 Guild Week - Feedback

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Atharian.7092

I can’t say I like it much. Granted, its better than the current system, but it does not fix a lot of the issues that small guilds have. For example, I am the only one in my group who enjoys SPvP, and I dislike the notion that me playing SPvP, because I don’t have a group of 2 or 3 guildies, contributes nothing to the guild. Thus, I have a suggestion:

Instead of “Kill 50 players as a group of 3”, for example, make it “As a guild, kill a total of 200 players”. A lot of guilds dont run SPvP teams you know, but they DO have individual players who sometims enjoy playing it. This would allow them to contribute.

well guild missions are meant to be done as a guild. So you solo playing sPvP repping your guild is no different to you solo playing sPvP repping no guild.

I disagree. Make it a collective effort from the guild as a whole, instead of just an effort from a group of 3. If everyone in the guild can contribute instead of a small, select pool of people, then everyone who actually cares about that content can contribute to it.

That would truly make it a guild effort, instead of a small group effort.

Besides, I don’t see the problem with an individual trying to contribute. Playing by myself as a member of a guild does not somehow make me less of a guild member.

If people have a bad rank, then chances are they are not going to want to display it for everyone else to see. Its a matter of pride, in a way. I also hate games that display your win / loss rate as people often use that to belittle / be rude other players.

50% ranked win ratio unreasonable...

in PvP

Posted by: Atharian.7092

Atharian.7092

The whole 50% thing is still terrible. Where is my sense of progress if the system is actively trying to prevent me from winning? Not to mention it feels like bogus in the first place. What’s that, you won a game? Here, have a bunch of level 30s to ensure you lose the next one. I’d mind less if it did not feel like the system was trying to defeat the player.

Stronghold PvP Feedback

I liked it. But, they need to make sure it does not turn into another Alterac Valley, where both teams just race each other to the enemy boss… I also think its a little too frustrating to play defence right now, as it often turns into a 1 v 3 + doorbreakers situation.

55% for me. I have a bad case of often feeling like I’m a better player than my allies. In some cases thats true, not even trying to be arrogant about it. Sometimes I just get teams that send 3 to home point or don’t know how to defend the gates in Stronghold.

So they took a ranged based damage dealing class… And turned it into a healer? When people made a Ranger, I seriously doubt “I’m gonna be the best healer ever!” was the first thing on their minds. I mean, that’s not even the same theme anymore.

While you are at it, can we get a proper rating system? It makes me kinda angry to sit at 50% all the time, as it means I never actually feel like I’m making any progress at all… The fact that PvE is about 500% more rewarding does not help much either.

Lieutenant Kholer

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Atharian.7092

Atharian.7092

I use to hate Kholer as well, but its more about experience than anything. As a Warrior there is a bunch of different stuff I can do to deal with his charge attack. Shield Stance, Endure Pain, Balanced Stance, Whirlwind Attack and even plain old dodging.

You either time it right to dodge his charge, or you have a fail safe to deal with it. Damage mitigation or stability works best. If you must, you can range him and line of sight when he starts to charge up. There are lots of things you can try, give some of them a shot.

However, I do admit that it is sometimes hard to time it right, when he is covered in the particles and animations of other players. I have the same problem with Rabsovich in the Dredge fractal. Its a rather small animation that is easily blocked/missed.

I can vouch for this. It happened to me twice in two runs, and I’ve no reason to think this will change with further attempts. Its always in the same place, and nothing we have tried seems to work. Best bet is to send in a bug report so they can deal with this.

Are mesmers and thieves ruining PvP?

in PvP

Posted by: Atharian.7092

Atharian.7092

I normally avoid balance discussions and allow the developers to do what they believe is right, but this case is different. I’m playing a Greatsword Warrior, and while other people may take issue with that, I’ll say this: My warrior can be easily countered. No, seriously, its actually not all that hard. We do not mess with your mind like a Mesmer or a Thief.

In my opinion, games should really start looking at the League of Legends mentality, with one thing in particular: How “fun” a character is should also be determined by how you fight against them. Evading 100b from other warriors is fun, and a good demonstration of who is the better player between us. But spending 90% of the time trying to figure out where my enemy is, while they are melting my face, is never an enjoyable experience.

There is a reason why everyone hated Rogues in WoW. They could fight and kill you, and if your trinket was on cooldown, there was very little you could actually do about it. Its different in Guild Wars 2. Why? You never even get to see a Thief, unless he decides to take off several thousand blocks of health at a time, and then go back invisible like it never happened. Even when you come close to killing them, it is so difficult to actually finish the job, because it is so simple for them to escape. Stealth and burst is never a good mix.

Mesmers are just plain infuriating. I want to fight another player and test my abilities against them, not play whack a mole with a horrible game mechanic. I can respect that this is a difficult class to use and should have a higher reward for playing well, but this does not give the class the right to invalidate most other builds. There is a reason why Mesmers and Thieves are so common in sPvP and tPvP. They have excellent damage and control, and while squishy, still have effective defense mechanisms and “oh kitten” buttons.

Now, dont get me wrong, I’m not some excellent player with an opinion that warrants attention – but I am experienced with games in general. With that said, it does not take a professional or some kind of genius to figure out just how ridiculous these mechanics actually are. How can we enjoy the game when someone is playing with our heads?

So, for the love of gaming, factor the idea of “fun” into fighting the class, not just playing it. If I lose a duel with another player, I want to lose to them because they are better than me, and then learn because of that. Not because they have a class that is considered better.
