I know, I know. I tried to beat the house and the house killed me, spat on my body and then laughed.
I slowly (VERY SLOWLY) earned around 77g (not much I know), from months dungeon running, world exploration and a few fractals.
I thought hmm.. maybe I could try for a precursor (I must have been insane), fair to say I did not get one.
I now have around 7g and no idea what to do or how to muster the energy to earn it back. I’m not asking for sympathy, just wondering if anyone else has been stupid enough to gamble everything.
Not sure what to do now ;/

I really advise you not to bother, I sunk around 80g in the MF and got nothing.
It is honestly not worth it.
I have a sylvari thief and I’m a big fan of him, but I’m also working on my 2nd ranger. I know that damage is lacking a bit, but hope in feb/march we’ll get some improvements and be a little more on par (would like our range damage to be closer to Warrior and now with Eng kits/turrets starting to get weapon stats/bonus/boons, maybe ranger pets are next). I also like the pets, collecting them experimenting with them. The AI isn’t the best, but it’s worlds better than Necro minions. I think my new asura ranger will try out a melee trap build, but there’s a lot of versitilty, so who knows. Another point for ranger would be it fits pretty well with the Sylvari nature theme (though again, I have a sylvari thief that rocks too). What’s your GF running, maybe think what would work best in combo with her.
She has a Level 80 Ranger using Longbow/Shortbow and flame trap.
Any other help?
I’ve recently saved up enough Gold to buy the Sylvari Tier 3 Cultural armor.

It is the only Cultural armor I really like.
I really need help deciding what profession to pick as I can only buy the armor once and don’t want to make the wrong decision. I love all three of the Adventurer’s.
Ranger -
Surprisingly I really enjoy having a selection of pets and finding/collecting new ones.
I love their Short and Longbow skills but find myself wishing for more AOE, traps are fun though but seem to fall short, for me at least.
I always feel like I am lacking in the damage department.
Thief -
I love their stealth, I enjoy the feeling of knowing that I have an OHKITTEN button that will get me out of bad situations. Their damage is also a plus.
Though after playing an Elementalist as a main I kind of wish for something a bit less squishy.
Engineer -
After having an Ele for a main, kit changing will become easy for me after awhile. Their AOE with grenades is so much fun and not to mention FT. Though.. after running an Ele I kind of wish for two weapons sets but that isn’t much of a problem.
Their utilities seem very support oriented which if I wanted to run support i’d just hop on my Ele.
I really can’t decide, I know I might have made some classes out to be a little bit more negative but I really do enjoy them all the same. Ranger seems to have got a little more stale than the others though and I’m only in my late 20’s.

Was thinking maybe Warrior, Mesmer or Guardian.
Never thought it’d be so difficult to pick a profession.
GF got bored of her 80 Ranger and has created a Necromancer.
She wants me to make an Alt (Only have an 80 Ele) which I don’t mind.
I just have no idea what to be, I don’t have any personal preference because Ele is my favorite, what would you suggest?
I was reviving someone and at the very last second of them getting up they WP.
Not sure if they were trying to troll me but it didn’t cost me anything.

I’ve been in a number of dungeons where peoples pets refuse to stay stowed and cause unnecessary aggro. I’ve also seen people refuse Ranger players for Dungeon runs.
PvE Exploration Ranger is really good at, they aren’t bad at sPvP either. Wv3 & Dungeons is where Rangers need help.
I agree with most of what you’ve said.
My girlfriend got refused for a Dungeon because of her ranger.
Though I do enjoy using my Ranger for PvP

Currently Level 63, all I can say is I am so glad that I stuck with it. Solo’ed my first group event today against the Krait Witch at Timberline Falls, it was a total blast. Loving every minute.
Running S/D at the moment with some exotic gear.
At what level does Ele start to become it’s best?
at lv80 of course, when traits, synergies ecc starts kicking in…
I guessed that I kind of meant like how the Mesmer becomes better at a round level 40. Was wondering if Ele was like that as well. I’m level 30 at the moment wondering how to spend traits.

I’m currently Leveling a Ranger & Ele at the same time, hopefully soon wanted to choose main.
I’ve only really played Ele’s in Spvp so I have experience with attunement swapping
I decided to jump head first in to PvE and thought Ele’s AOE would be amazing for PvE and mobs.
The only issue I see is their low health and getting destroyed by boss AOE.
I know Warrior/Guardians are the go to professions for PvE but they really aren’t my style, I love lots of AOE and necro isn’t my type either.
So are Ele’s able to survive well in PvE and solo most if not all content?
I can’t really give you the answer you want because I haven’t played Elementalist much but I can tell you that Ele tends to be squishy and so a Warrior/Guardian would help.
If you’re not in to heavy’s then maybe Necro (a lot of health and survivability thanks to death shroud).
I keep backtracking not knowing what to do. My heart is with Scholars but then none of them really fit the caster description I love, plus being squishy isn’t to enjoyable for me.
So annoying, I really want to WV3.
I wanted to know the exact same question, wondering which of the two would go best with Ranger.
Still have decided yet because Ele would supplements rangers lack of AOE (other than traps) but Mesmer is such a great support profession.
nothing to fear, with stealth abilities pve is pretty cake for mesmers, though if youre shooting the same target she may have it down before you can get too many illusions up.
another class to consider is Necro. if she is going condition ranger, she has access to fast bleeds and burning. pair that with necro’s Epidemic which is on a short cooldown, and GG. downsides of necro are obviously that staff sucks and you have to kill kitten everytime you die for life force, but the condition power between the two of you would be epic.
That is the one thing I worry about is that Mesmer seems very single target oriented, my AOE with shatters might get messed up if the monster they are aimed on get killed. Mesmer seems more Caster like than Ele (since with Ele it seems to all be about D/D). I have a level 37 Necro but as I got higher I noticed that conditions just aren’t my thing and so I went with Wells but got fed up of relying on utilities to do most of the damage.

Well I’ve decided I definitely want to be a Scholar profession, it’s what I’ve always been in near enough every game that has given the option.
It is either Elementalist or Mesmer, I like them both.
It’s a toss up between Ele[AOE] or Mes[Shatters], I worry about Mesmers and PvE.
So it’s either Ranger or Warrior?
My GF almost exclusively uses Longbow except for when she drops her traps in to the mobs. I need something that can duo well with Ranger in PvE, Wv3 and solo fine in Spvp.
Warrior sounds interesting even though I hardly ever play the archetype in video games.
I’ve been moving back and forth between professions for months now whilst my GF has been slowly leveling her Ranger. In short what goes best with Ranger.

I’m sick of not having a main. I PvP a little but not much since she doesn’t like Spvp because we can’t realiably be on each others team.
Wv3 she likes the look of but I want to have my main leveled up for that.
Guardian or Warrior?
Ranged I’m not to bothered about but I need a nice solid class to duo with my GF.
Was hard enough doing the Tixx Dungeon with my Necro and her Ranger.
I’m guessing it goes a bit like.
Guardian – Steady DPS – High Survivability
Warrior – High Burst DPS – Mid Survivability
My highest is only in their 30s so i’ll still be stuck with level 30 gear even if I am leveled up to 80. Shame
I’m guessing you have to be 80 to do these Dungeons?
I know you wasn’t talking about Rapid Fire but I was hitting 6k easily with it last night.
Elementalist
Fixed a bug where elementalists would not be attuned to any element, resulting in an empty skillbar.
Shocking Aura: This aura is no longer incorrectly considered a boon. The aura will no longer be affected by boon duration, but also cannot be ripped by boon removal skills.
Tidal Wave: This skill is now a leap finisher.
Ice Wall—Detonate: This skill is now a blast finisher.
Magma Orb: Damage is now split equally between the projectile and the explosion, instead of 2/3 explosion and 1/3 projectile. The total damage remains unchanged.
Boil: This skill is now a fire field.
Murky Water: This skill is now a smoke field.
Rock Blade: This skill is now a small projectile finisher. Bleeding duration has been increased from one to three seconds. Aftercast has been increased by 200 milliseconds.
Signet of Air: Increased the passive movement from 10% to 25%.
Soothing Wave: This trait has incorporated the benefits of the now-defunct Icy Mist.
Icy Mist: Replaced with Arcane Abatement. Take 50% less damage from falling. Create a spell when you take falling damage based on your attunement. Fire—Ring of Fire, water—Healing Wave, air—Static Field, and earth—Earthquake.
Arcane Resurrection: Applies auras for five seconds instead of 10. Now also increases revive speed by 10%.
Stone Splinters: Increased range from 300 to 600 units.
Bolt to the Heart: Increased health percent from 25 to 33.
Pyromancer’s Puissance: Increased might duration to 10 seconds.
Cantrip Mastery: This skill now works with Mist Form in PvE.

THIEF best
guardian second bestThe only three classes I can ever recommend (unless they have something specific they’re looking for) are ele, thief, and guardian. in that order
Anyway thief has great mobility and surprisingly awesome versatility. You can basically do whatever you want. in any sense
Thief was on the top of my list before I realized that their only reliable AOE is Cluster Bomb. Seeing as AOE is normally necessary in PvE, I didn’t go with it. I’m probably wrong though which would be good.
Guardian I loved at one point in the game, when I first started. Then I just got bored of the ‘LOLspinandalldead’ BS. I did like using staff though, which I know wasn’t the best choice but it was enjoyable to see all those stacks of might land on everyone.
Right now I’m running on my Lvl 26 Necro but feeling a bit mehh..
My friends running a Ranger so I thought I’d run an alt.
I’ve narrowed it down to these two (If you have any other suggestion that would fit Ranger better feel free to voice them).
What would you suggest? I can’t make my mind up, tried tossing a coin and can’t decide still xD.

Necro has more power and survivability but them Mesmer could Buff my friend and also has decent survivability.
I’ve recently started wrecking havoc with my Necro in PvP, thanks to a bombing build I came across.
I hear Necro’s are amazing in PVE is that true.
Either way it is now Mesmer VS Necromancer.
I’m undecided.
I’ve got the same exact problem. Necro is very good for PvE with Well’s etc.. but as much as I try I just can’t PvP with it.
Engineer was fun, very fun actually but I only got mine to 15 before I gave up and my engi got deleted, not sure why :/
Though now I’m not so much of a Newb with the game I wouldn’t mind trying Engi again.
Well my friend decided to go Ranger now instead so should I stick to my Ele?
I’ve done a lot of that character but thought I might start again on an alt so we can both experience the beginning again etc…
I thought Mesmer + Ranger would be good, I find the solider classes a little boring so I’m not interested in Warrior or Guardian, they seem rather easy.
I finally convinced one of my friends to join the game, she’s going Elementalist.
So I decided to roll an alt for the moment, the only problem is I have no Idea what to run after playing an Ele.
PvE will be very important, I need to be able to handle myself and maybe help her out.
PvP as well, I thought I might as well learn to PvP with another profession.
I have a low Necro but I can’t PVP with it to save my life, I come next to last all the time :/ I can PvP well with a Mesmer but I heard they aren’t to good with PvE.
I’m so confused :/

I actually find the Ele easier to play than other professions. I can’t imagine not having four Attunements. I guess the class just ‘clicks’ with me but I find I die more often on my Necro than I do my Ele.
I’m far from a master but I’m always in the top 3 In Spvp with my Ele, I just love the class.
As the title says, I love it.
I must have tried every profession, trying to figure which best suited me. By far the Elementalist is the most enjoyable.
For example, I’ve tried Spvp with near enough every profession. It always ends up with me not even getting 100pts. Go back to my elementalist and I get 200-300 Pts and most of the time top player.
I’ve got a lot to learn but hands down Ele is most fun and enjoyable. I find all other professions a bore now.
Pointless thread I know, I’m just happy I finally found the right profession after a month.
Great Answers guys, really gets me excited about Necromancer.
Necro just seems like it has such potential with some much needed bug fixes.
I wanted my main to be Scholar (I use my Guardian only when I run with my GF).
I tried Mesmer and I just couldn’t ‘get the hang of it’, plus very little AOE for PvE was a little irritating.
Elementalist I found fun until I found myself to be rather squishy and found there was VERY little room for error.
@Arvid – I totally agree about Guardian, I found after that inital ‘ZOMG everything dies with such ease’ wore off I got rather bored.
What type of damage can a Necro pull off eventually, to start with it seemed rather slow. It seemed everything was about conditions bleeds,chill etc.. with no straight forward damage, that doesn’t bother me too much since I don’t want another Guardian.
I’m just going to go for it, sometimes I read to much in to what is the “best” and forget what I actually like.
Necro shall be my Solo PvE alt with my Guardian being Co-op with my GF and PvP.
If you think it’s a chore to play Guardians, then you’ll absolutely hate Necromancers.
Most classes don’t really come together until level 60 or so, but Necro is the worst I’ve experienced.
It works, but I don’t find it fun at all. I’m leveling it to 80 now out of pure spite.
It seems like it’d be great for defending nodes in sPvP, but I don’t really do sPvP so I couldn’t tell you.
Elementalist and Engineer have been the classes with the most versatility, and there was rarely a challenge I didn’t think I could overcome through swapping out a few skills. Guardians are easily the most solid class I’ve played. They do what they do very well, but there aren’t that many bells and whistles.
Necros are difficult to play well, and don’t really do anything other professions can’t do much easier. I found Elementalists and Engineers both more intuitive and fun.
Oh, and before I forget

Engineer was fun but I do enjoy sPvP and I just couldn’t get the hang of it with Engineer.

I do not expect a class to be a powerhouse, I actually normally avoid those types.
I normally go for a Jack of all type of character.

Hmm.. now I’m really unsure, think I’ll give both a go and see which I like best.
I’m liking the sound of Warrior and Mesmer.
Warrior because of what was mentioned, I could tank (with her pet) allowing her to DPS safely, they also have pretty good range options.
Mesmer because I do like the idea of phantasm but then I’ve heard they aren’t that great for PvE and maybe not as versatile as Warrior.
My girlfriend decided to role a Ranger and wanted me to create a new Character (Even though mine would scale down). I’m not sure what would work best with Ranger, we’d be running everything together.
I don’t mind Scholars but when I’m running one I tend to miss soldier/adventurer and vice versa.
I’m just asking people more experienced than me from their experiences, as I’m still pretty much a newb to this game with only two level 14’s.
I was just wondering if people think that I should stick to Ele.
I’ve pretty much guessed that my friend won’t play much but me on the other hand I want to play this game 24/7, can’t get enough.
Is Ele a viable option to run by my self?I want to point out that I’m a complete noob. The combat I’m fine with, I’m unfamiliar with the mechanics such as what I have to do during this Halloween event etc..
If you think Ele isn’t a viable option for a noob, then what should I be?

Ele can do well you just have to be willing to put in the work. I find I kill things fast enough and have good survivability and versatility as well. And Ele is fun because it’s an interesting, busy class so you won’t ever get bored. I find my alts are fun but being much easier and simpler they get boring.
So ignore all the people saying Eles suck because they don’t. If you want to play an Ele go for it, just know you’ll have to put more work into mastering the class and I’d recommend coming to the forums and elsewhere on the internet to read up on it. On the other hand if you want something easier there’s nothing wrong with that. Thief, Necro, and Mesmer are all good classes so I’d just ask you what style you are looking for? Personally I like Mesmer best out of the 3 but they are all viable if you want something other than an Ele.
I love Ele but I am finding it hard Solo. I picked Ele to work with my friend that is why I brought then a copy of the game but they don’t play much now :/. When I first saw GW2 I wanted to be a Necro, didn’t even think of another class. I’m not sure why I then didn’t go Necro much I think I might give it a go, what is the best weapons for Necro?

I’m level 14 at the moment and have just started to find it getting a bit tougher.
I use staff because I prefer it, I find I chain skills together better.
I will admit that I seem to kill things slower than any other class.
I’m thinking of having my Ele as an Alt and maybe switch to something else for my main so I can farm easier etc..
I’m not sure yet, I’ll give it a bit longer.
