Oh no, I LIKE the class. I’m definitely going to take it to 80, it is a frustrating levelling experience though sometimes for sure. I’ll see how I feel about it at 80, because as you say…its a different ballpark once you have full exotics. It was on the thief too….

Hmm, I used to feel that way and then when I hit level 30, I just thought “kitten it” and went for tons of vitality. Never looked back. Being able to solo a huge mob with a d/d elementalist is the greatest feeling. Hell, if you attunement dance well, you can actually solo certain champs and their veteran aids. Building tanky instead of for damage is AMAZING.

Even more exciting, Ele goes through these power boosts – hitting 60 a couple days ago and got 30 in arcana, and now I am far far more stronger. I’m even able to go into WvWvW and blitz a small zerg, disrupt it for about 6 seconds, and then escape while my allies close in for the kill. I love this class, it’s so… Rambo-like, you know? I can actually roam around on my own or with a partner specced for damage and be able to take supply camps and flags on our own.

I’m now level 68 and am extremely excited about hitting level 80 soon. I can’t begin to imagine what I can do with exotics. I feel like God when I play an elementalist.

I picked this class up and did well, no problems with using it. Sure, it’s a bit glassy, but nothing vitality and some toughness couldn’t fix. After doing so well with it in sPVP and WvWvW from the get-go, I’m baffled with conflicting statements from the forums and my experiences with the class.

Great. I kept going through the forums, seeing all the posts of “wtf ele’s are for pros”

No. Just no.

I think it’s mostly mechanical and less of being smart. I mean, you have to be smart for each class. Ele’s are the same, just requires a little bit more on the mechanical side as opposed to others, due to having to attunement dance to stay up to par.

There. I said it.

9/8/2013 edit – Here we are, nine months later. Elementalists have gotten worse and worse and nothing’s been done about it.

Nine months later and I still believe elementalists aren’t hard to play. Hell, I find it very hard to understand that there are still elementalists at 80 being poor examples of their profession.

I’ll give Anet this – they made the class more challenging by making us far too weak to compete.

Upon character selection, I brought up the ‘World’ option to transfer to Sea of Sorrows, which was labeled ‘Very High’ at the time, from Tarnished Coast.
However, after a brief pause, I got a message saying that I lost connection so I closed GW2 and relogged.
Instead of Sea of Sorrows, I’ve been put into Sorrow’s Furnace.
Now I know what you’re thinking, “maybe he just misread”, but I KNOW what I saw. Is there anyway I can be put back in Sea of Sorrows?

Double daggers isn’t that bad…. But yeah, sucks to be pigeonholed into one build.

5 skills for one utility slot sounds great.

Losing access to 20 skills for 5 doesn’t.

Elementalists can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds, 0 to100 miles per hour then back to 0 in 9 seconds, and 0 to 200 miles per hour then back to 0 in 27 seconds. Top speed is 233 miles per hour, torque 1,500 Nm.

Using mousebuttons gives no advantage in game like GW2. It is up to you what you like better, using keyboard hotkeys or mouse hotkeys.

Then for mousepad vs mouse for targetting and stuff. I have to say mouse will always be superior in accuracy, speed and ergonomic, in every regard.
And it will be quite unlikely to be as good as a “top mouse player” can be.

If you think otherwise, I’d like to see a video proof….

Oh, I don’t have video proof (for now) but I’m pretty kitten sure I’ll give all but the best mouse players a run for their money.

There’s a button that can make your char spin around. It’s nice combined with updraft/burning retreat.

You can actually play the game w/o ever having to use a mouse or touch pad (at least with D/D, staff requires you to use a mouse). It’s actually not that hard to effectively play D/D w/o using a mouse or touchpad :P

But don’t I have to at least tap the touchpad twice to deselect my target in order to use RTL as an escape?

Don’t I have to use the touchpad to at least survive the abysmal underwater combat? (aiming bubbles, dashes, etc)

Don’t I have to use the touchpad to more effectively control my movement and allow for sharp turns (which is necessary in order to kite a large amount of mobs/players)

Don’t I have to use the touchpad to aim my lightning flashes for escapes, gap closing, and various tricks such as the churning earth/lightning flash combo?

I can name a few more that I need to do with a touchpad (or a mouse, but I don’t have one for now), but I’m too tired.

I did say that I play a touchpad, but not that I’m actually bad at playing. I can turn the camera just fine (probably better than most, since I can do complete 180’s with just a flick of a finger compared to all of that… clumsy mouse moving when you reach the edge of the mousepad)

If you ever reach the edge of the mousepad, you need to crank up your mouse sensitivity. You should be able to turn the camera 360 degrees in less than an inch with DPI set properly.

Definitely get a mouse. Preferably with a dozen or so extra buttons so that you never have to take your fingers off your movement, voice bind and dodge key while fighting.

Bad idea?

I’ve seen all these posts about owning some snazzy mouse with a million buttons on it but I’ve done okay (havn’t tried GW2 with a mouse, or any game really). Should I invest into one or something to get an edge? Or is it just inconsequential?

Either way, I kind of feel like a kitten when people get surprised that I use a touchpad during sPVP and Wv3.

I’m just as interested, since I’m a little disillusioned with tanky ele constantly nerfed, so might as well have fun with my ele before it dies, right?

I feel for a conjure build to work, the charges should either be increased or removed, since it limits what you can do with them, whereas engineers have basically the same thing without the charges.
