Yeah hey, I sent a support ticket about changing my current email since I can’t access it (stupid Yahoo!) so I’m wondering, will any response be sent to me via email or website?

It’s important to know that I need to have everything talked about on the website itself using private messages, or maybe instead send it to my second email I named in the support ticket.

Hope I hear from you guys, thanks!

The reason why I don’t consider conjures at all is because to me, they’re just additional skills. Heck, it’s almost as if they started designing the full skillset for those weapons but gave up after five skills.

Engineers, however, are all about kits. It’s their main feature, the reason why they also don’t have weapon swap.

Another argument is that elementalists are designed around attunement swapping. Having conjures only negates that, instead of enhancing it.

I did think of mercenaries, it’s a good fit. But I was mostly thinking of what a dark soldier does, like conditions and maybe a class mechanic built around having a “enhanced” set of skills that uses blood (your own health) as a resource.

ex. Equip two swords and above the skills (like toolbelt) are enhanced skills that do additional effects or completely different things altogether. The lower your health is, the stronger your “dark spells” do.

This means losing weapon swap, I guess, for the sake of balance.

Why do you play ele?

in Elementalist

Because if you /laugh /teabag people after killing them on other classes, you look like a doosh.

When an ele does it, all the enemy can say is “I can accept that.”

No, that still makes you a doosh.

You also sound like a bigger doosh when you expect respect just because you play a different profession.

I’m guessing I tea bagged you a few too many times during season one. It’s ok to let your feelings out.

Just bear with me and look at the professions this way…

-Soldiers-
Light: Guardian
Neutral: Warrior
Dark: n/a

-Adventurers-
Light: Ranger
Neutral: Engineer
Dark: Thief

-Scholars-
Light: Elementalist
Neutral: Mesmer
Dark: Necromancer

Following this train of thought, I kinda have an idea as how the third soldier profession should look like.

Consider the pious nature of Guardians, what with their holy fire and smiting and blah blah blah. On the flip side of the coin, there’s the darker nature of religion: cults, rituals, etc. So we got a dark knight thing going on.

Going off topic, did you know elementalists are the only profession to have no unique weapon? (going by archetype)

-Soldier-
Guardian: Staff, scepter, focus, torch
Warrior: Longbow, rifle, axes, offhand sword, warhorn

-Adventurer-
Ranger: GS, longbow, axes, warhorn, torch
Engineer: Rifle, shield, FLAMETHROWER
Thief: mainhand dagger

-Scholar-
Necromancer: Axe, warhorn
Mesmer: GS, pistol, scepter, sword, torch
Elementalist: n/a

Weapons scholars don’t have are; maces, hammers, longbows, shortbows, rifles, and shields. Conjures don’t count and you know it.

Okay, that’s pretty much it. Thanks for skimming to the end.

This is my current build. You could change the back piece to either celestial or cavaliers. That works pretty well you can change armor and trinkets around but my recommendations is stay above 2600 armor and under 500 healing power (after 500 the ratio drop for every profession a lot). Another trait set up with this would be 0/10/10/20/30.

This build is horrible. Low power, average armor, low health and crit damage.

Whenever you want to use celestial stuff, keep them on your armor and weapons as they have far better stat return than celestial trinkets.

A better way than stacking condition removal is to simply make yourself extremely resistant to conditions. Geomancer’s freedom, runes of melandru, and lemongrass food gives you 98% duration reduction against the pesky kinds like immobilize, cripple, and chill. The rest don’t matter much since you’d have adequate health and you SHOULD be making whoever is putting DoT’s on you suffer.

I do not recommend valks and knights due to their low stat return and simply doesn’t really fit with other stats.

This build offers massive survivability and damage all in one package, which is perfect for small group play and to an extent zergs. By constantly blasting off ring of fire with earth dodge, 4, and 5, you can stack ludicrous amounts of might. By playing intelligently, you would be an ele with permanent uptime on all boons except protection (this still has pretty long uptime) and stability, giving you 4k power and 1.2k condition damage to go with your survivability.

This build is when you want to simply not die and nothing else. Guaranteed to make you immortal, especially in small group fights where your high survivability, resistance to conditions, and extreme healing makes you a tank to make guardians look bad. Only one issue is lack of damage but, hey, the trade off for immortality is still nice.

I opened your build and my build side by side. Took away all food buffs. And took your advice and changed my knight armor for cavaliers armor. This is what the stats looked like before FOOD BUFFS.
Power: Mine:1563 Yours:1563
Precision: Mine:1164(21%) Yours: 1157(20%)
Toughness: Mine:1881 Yours:1927
Vitality: Mine:1364 Yours:1357
Crit DMG: Mine:61% Yours:75%

As you can see We have the same Power. Practically the same Precision and Vitality(I beat you but only slightly). Your beat me in Toughness by 46. You beat me in Crit DMG by 14%.
When I added FOOD BUFFS you beat me in Power by 3.
For MinMaxing purposes you have the better build but when it comes to practical use our builds come out to be the same.
As I see it Knights does have a big role in both of our builds simply because we don’t have the 100% up time on fury like the classic d/d build.
As for this Statement “This build is horrible. Low power, average armor, low health and crit damage.” It seems to apply to your build also other than the low Crit DMG

Oooh, interesting. But it also seems to lack the condition damage and healing power celestial armor offers.

edit- hey wait, I checked again. My link has exotics but yours have ascended. There’s also yours having 20 pts in earth (200 toughness) and mine having 10 (100 toughness). You do have me beat in precision since I only matched yours by having 10 in air.

Anyone optimized gear and traits post patch?
I’m relatively new to ele so any help would be great

There is no optimal because we are talking about essentially pvp so there are alot of factors. If your goal is frontliner and your new to ele full pvt with zerk trinkets is a good place to start. Boon duration runes as you get more comfortable playing ele then you can start to trim your hp down.

Azunai’s build is back loaded damage nothing wrong with that at all. Boon duration builds work well on ele. Even in his celestial gear. Just remember boon duration builds require a wind up to get rolling for great damage. Meaning you build up might stacks. Where as not running boon duration you have better front loaded damage and wont suffer a large dps loss if your might stacks are stripped.

Pretty much sums up my build! I like the benefit of being hard to kill while dishing out lots of damage. I don’t mind having to work a little bit harder to get to that point.

power gear does more damage… celestial allows for more mistakes. dunno how you could say power is bad though…. glass is class

Right, because it’s totaly possible to go for extended lengths in an intense duel or group fight without getting hit.

Plus, being more tanky allows you to stack boons longer and do more damage in the end. (3k power, anyone?) Hell, it’s not as if you hit like a wet noodle right off the bat. Starting off with 2k power, +85% crit damage, and 40% crit rate to go with condition damage is definitely not bad. It’s when the fight goes on as the build allows you to stack more and more boons (this isn’t even my final form) that you become a straight up force of nature.

Anymore questions?

you need moar zerker!!!!

and lol zerker / knights / valks does way more dmg than your celestial setup

That’s the trade off for more survivability. Subbing in zerk amulet and two other trinkets give more crit rate (30%, 50% max with fury) but I’m fine with 40% max because I crit plenty of times and have tougher armor.

There’s also going full zerk trinkets but my philosophy is this: a dead ele deals no damage. That, and with my build, maintaining +20 stacks of might is easy enough, giving you BOTH the damage AND the survivability. Win-win.

Azunai.5974

Mhm, but keep in mind that an ele with fgs on his own isn’t very dangerous. His whirl move is something to watch out for, so yeah, avoid walls. Pulling off a flash rush on his own is too hard, since summoning fgs takes a little bit of time after CCing in earth. There’s the possibility of the ele having signet of earth but it’s very unlikely (in general – ele’s specced for the fgs rush WILL bring it)

With a partner, though, is when you definitely should watch out for an ele with fgs, since any stupid ele would bring FGS and not just the ones prepared to rush you. As always, just one stunbreak ruins the combo and you can expect to not see it again for the rest of the fight.

[video] This is how we get the fix

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azunai.5974

Azunai.5974

This just proves the fact that Elementalist needs to be easier to play

You need traits that well… specialize in 1-2 attunements, but have amazing traits like this!

Drastically Improves the Fire Attunement, completely locks out Air.
Drastically Improves the Water Attunement, completely locks out Earth.
Drastically Improves the Air Attunement, completely locks out Fire.
Drastically Improves the Earth Attunement, completely locks out Water.

Earth should be focused on Condition Damage/Reducing Damage. (Bleeding Damage/Confusion Damage/Protection.)

Water should be focused on Power Damage/Healing. (Vulnerability/Weaknesss/Power Damage/Healing.)

Fire should be Condition Damage/Condition Removal and Control. (Burning, Power, Condition Control. (Remove conditions/cure for each one removed.).

Air Should be Burst/Critical Damage/Daze and Crowd Control.

This way you can have 1 offensive/1 defensive option and more then several viable builds due to different weapon sets.

Reading all of that for the 50th time was awesome. Never gets old.

Not familiar with those examples, but any weapon or items has the capacity to be mage-y. Bows just aren’t commonly like that. At the very least, that is my view of them.

tell you what, not only in most of game i play (or played), bow are made to use elemental magic, but some of them don’t even need to be magic at all to do elemental damage (that exemple of lighting your arrow into fire before firing it work so well), i know 2 games where there is frost character that use bow to shoot on ennemies. i know another one that every skill of the bow are elemental. i know another one that the only way to have elemental bow (and/or dagger), is by enchanting them. I know another one that each time you fire with your bow, it can do a chain of lightning that can attack up to 4 minions at the same time. the only element i haven’t seen used by the bow is… earth -_-, so i think it’s time to make an exeption and to be unique.

Enchanted bow isn’t an inherently magic one.

Either way, your experience with bows in games is not mine. I don’t care about yours. Bows aren’t magic items to me. That’s my point.

Quite narrow-minded, aren’t you? You say bows can’t be magical without anything to back your statement, we tell you why you’re wrong with evidence, you say you don’t care about what we “think”.

Why are you on the forums if you don’t?

survival ……………………………………….

Then you made a kittenty build for surivival.

You need 30 points in arcana for the heal and blast finisher on dodge. You definitely don’t need the trait for glyph cooldown reduction.

You’re stacking a loooot of precision but your critical damage is quite low, along with toughness and vitality. It’s far more economical to spec zephyr’s boon and use that for perma fury.

You also have low heal power which is, in my opinion, far more important than vitality and toughness. Ele’s have the lowest health and armor, but we do make up for it with healing.

Signet of air is worthless, drop it for something else like lightning flash.

Here’s an exotic version of a great build.

For ascended stuff, just replace the weapons and trinkets with ascended cavalier stuff.

Food is up to you. I recommend either the 100 prec + crit damage food or -40% condition duration food.

If you want to go for pure bunker, try this.

A new weapon skillset for Elementalists

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azunai.5974

its a good start, but it seems like a lot of the skills are ones that we already have on other weapons both on ground and under water.

Good point, but I was already aware of it.

I had to strike a balance between mechanics that were already in place and introducing new ones. I felt that making a wildly innovative kit would make it impossible to implement. Therefore, I did my best to create new spells with existing mechanics, like the Magnetic Shot I came up with. Uses an old mechanic, but can be used very differently. I want to do the same for the rest of the kit.

Asking a serious question here.

Were you trolling with the ele, or were you actually that bad? Wait, no, even if you weren’t, who’d admit to being that bad over trolling?

kitten, my head hurts.

I think everyone here is missing the point.

He played terrible with all of them, clicking, just randomly pressing buttons, yet was able to completely faceroll with the last 3 classes lol.

Ohhhhhh, now I get it.

…Oh. Thread’s gotten a little depressing now. I think I’ll go outside for a bit.

Yet another suggestion for Conjures.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azunai.5974

Azunai.5974

I don’t know how often, if at all, this has been brought up:
Please remove either the timer or the charges from the Conjures.
Let us play them more like a Weapon Kit. Giving us 2 limits on the weapon we summon into existence feels way too restricting to me, and I just plain don’t use them at all as a result.
I can fill the slot with a skill that I actually feel right using, rather than something that will needlessly limit me even further.

Personally, I’d love to see the charges mechanic removed. Then we won’t have to worry about not being able to use our other skills because we spent all the charges on auto-attacking.

Just my two cents, do with it what you will.

It’s been brought up hundreds of times before. You’re basically beating on the spot where a dead horse used to be.

It’s been a year and it seems that Anet won’t be changing conjures drastically any time soon.

Elementaliste can't use bow? why not?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azunai.5974

Azunai.5974

bows aren’t particularly magical weapons.

What? And daggers are?

No?

Then why can elementalists use them?

this is starting to get a bit silly right now xD, ok so now i’ve played Guild Wars 2 for 1 week, tested thing and here’s my conclusion.

Biger race run slower than small race.

False. They all run at the same speed. Bigger people seem slower by comparision becuae they’re… big.

Elementaliste can use dagger but can’t use bow (what?).

Frost Bow. Utility skill. I agree though, it needs to be a main weapon.

Hunter can’t use gun (what?). Guardian are better DPS while warrior are better tank (what?),

What? Not even close. Warriors have far superior DPS. Guardians are great at stayin alive but you don’t ‘tank’ in this game.

frost (“water”) elementaliste are best for support (what?).

Yeah, no. And even if they were good at support, what’s so bad about that?

Summoning a water fall on my allies heal them (what?) xD

Your post made me cringe. (what)

Tips for build Elementalist

in Elementalist

An example of a balanced build. Very good mix of survivability and burst. Bit low on healing power but that’s fine. This build relies on permanent uptime for fury, hence the boon duration runes and 10 in air for zephyr’s boon. I found this more efficient than stacking precision, as in this build you get more critical damage and power, while also having higher health.

Things to note when building:

1. Account for precision and fury when going for a bursty build. I feel that for it to work, you need either high precision and you can forgo boon duration to pick up more survivability or utility from melandru or traveler runes, while also taking ten out of air and into somewhere else like earth, OR go for lower precision (minimum 10%) and definitely go for boon duration runes and 10 in air to stack fury for 30%.

2. Consider your food carefully. If you already have high enough condi removal from 30 in water and/or ether renewal, you can opt for a different food to increase burst (100prec+10%crit if your crit rate is too low OR 100pow+10%crit if you have about 20 already) If you run 20 in water and feel too pressured by condi’s, consider the -40% condi duration food. It stacks nicely with 2 runes in Melandru, for a total -50% reduction. This is mainly a good food for builds leaning to survivability.

3. When creating a balanced build, try to stay above 2.5k armor and 14k health. Let the WvW buffs take care of your health and try to build towards toughness rather than vitality.

4. When including crit damage in your spec, keep them on trinkets and weapons. Armor pieces generally have bad crit damage. Do keep in mind that armor has vit/crit and trinkets have both vit/crit and tough/crit. When doing a mix of both, out vit/crit on armor and tough/crit on trinkets. Use weapons to round out your build, usually to either increase crit rate to acceptable levels or to get enough toughness, so pick between beserker and cavalier weapons.

5. Do keep in mind that when making a heal spec, keep your healing power above 1k or it won’t keep up. You’ll need healing power on both armor and trinkets to achieve this, so go for either heal/cond or heal/pow. I personally recommend heal/cond but it requires a different playstyle than a direct damage approach. Weapons are to round out your build, of course.

6. I’ve ran many tests on celestial stats and never really found a good balance. Often times, mixing three-stat gears were much more balanced overall. And honestly, not worth the grind. Try mixes of knight/cavalier or soldier/beserker and so on.

7. As for utilities, I find cantrips a must unless you’re some sort of one-shot spec. When going for burst, avoid arcane precision unless you plan on taking the arcana trait, Elemental Surge, (makes the next five attacks proc an effect based on attunement, with no cooldown. Very good for conjured weapons) for lots of immobilization and blinds. Always consider taking lightning flash. It’s an all around fantastic skill for offensive and defensive purposes. Also, personally, I’ve always liked taking lightning hammer with me for more CC and damage than over armor of earth.

edit-

8. Pay attention to sigils. Especially as to what stat you want per kill. The rule of thumb is power becomes more useful once you get enough crit rate. Basically, get crit rate up to snuff then invest more into power. I feel this point is around 30-40% crit rate, fury being included. When building a balanced spec, you may have a build on your hands that has higher effective health but your damage suffers. Sigils can help round that out. Onthe other hand, you could have plenty of both but lacking in healing oower, so get that. Oh, and pay attention to when you have full stacks. When that occurs, switch to an identical weapon with a permanent effect. You’ll keep the stacks. Usually, I go with 10% damage at night but stuff like additional crit chance works too.

9. Traits. Keep in mind that putting points into fire is useless. The others are fine. MOST IMPORTANTLY, never put points into a trait line for stats only. Invest points for traits that are important for your build.

General rules:
-30 in arcana if you plan on taking evasive arcana. You want EA for any of those reasons: extra heal/cleanse, blind, blast finisher, and reduced attunement recharge.
-30 in water if you either want massive condition cleanses or better support through powerful aura.
-20 at the most for earth if you want to take advantage of CC reduction and armor of earth trait. 10 in earth is great for burst if you take the trait for additional damage within 600 (irc) range.
-Either 30 in air for Fresh air builds, or 10 in air for zephyr’s boon.

Any more questions? Feel free to ask.

use perplexity runes

toolkit, p/s… other utilities are your choice

its op.

hell you dont even need precision, switch to some dire.

Precision works really well with proccing a poison sigil and bleed/burn on crit traits.

But yeah, just revolving around perplexity runes instead of everything else may work with dire stats. But I don’t recommend it.

There’s a sigil that procs poison now? AFAIK the only sigil that does this is doom, which procs poison off a weapon swap, not on critical hit.

My bad, my bad! My brain likes to mix stuff together.

Why isn't there any "Idea" Posts?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azunai.5974

Azunai.5974

If “idea posts” are the tens (hundreds, if you include other class forums) of DOA ideas that Daecollo posts on a monthly basis, then I don’t want them.

Otherwise, there are certainly some solid idea posts (e.g. the Focus thread on the first page).

G-give the rifle thread a read if you havn’t yet.

I’ve read it, and believe it to be orthogonal to what the class needs. Our existing mechanics and weapons are mostly fine. We need some sensible fixes; we don’t need to spread ourselves thin with a weapon that doesn’t fit the class thematically (I’d rather MH sword in that case).

Like how daggers fit the profession?

Sigh…. Athames are ritualistic “tool” used by magic users, it’s the most legit weapon an Elementalist could possibly use, they don’t go around stabbing people with it.

Okay okay, point taken. :p I wrote that before raging on my own thread.

Interesting connection, though, pagan rituals and tools.
