Everyone needs a little optimism!
(edited by Azunai.5974)
A rifle is just a hollowed out staff. If you’re an enchanter you could imbue your ammo and fire magic bullets. Kinda like a modern day Spellsword.
Iv always connected the High Priest performing human sacrifices using a ceremonial dagger as the origin of mages using daggers.
Edit: Rangers have several “nature magic” utility skills such as spirits and the great sword kinda counts as nature magic. And the Entangle elite is pure nature magic.
It wouldn’t be a stretch to give them a staff to fully embrace the nature magic. imo at least.
Exactly this. Go watch Outlaw Star if you havn’t yet. The main character has a gun that fires bullets loaded with magic and they are kitten.
(edited by Azunai.5974)
Look, I actually like your ideas, and I would must rather have a new weapon, even rifle, than nothing at all, but it’s so unlikely to happen, just as unlikely as Rangers getting staff and turning into druids, it’s just now what the classes do in the IP.
I personally would probably prefer Longbow over Rifle if I had to choose, but just because the whole utility elemental Bow attack thing is really awesome lol.
I totally understand, I also looove longbows. I’ll work on a skillset later. But I’m throwing my rifle ideas out there because I enjoy elementalists. I’m not a developer. I’m just a player. So I’m not sure why people enjoy saying no to me as if I have some real power.
And you like my ideas? Aww shucks…
Daggers have been mage weapons since the dawn of dnd. It was usually their weak physical option but it’s still classic… just like our pathetic health pool.
Point taken. But, so have guns been a part of magic lore. To be frank, I don’t see what’s stopping guns from becoming tools of magic.
An Athame is probably the most legit “mage” type weapon, more of a tool really, you don’t see the Ele stabbing people with it do you?
Sceptre (wand) and Staff have also been very traditional.
But regardless, Ele has nothing to do with mechanical things, just like you won’t see a Ranger use guns or even a staff (and use magic) it’s just not how these classes are in this IP.
Then look at it gameplay wise, we already have Staff for long range dmg, maybe Rifle would be more single target but still. We’d probably get something like sword or axe with 600-900 range before we see that.
Even then I’m getting the feeling Anet is going to just introduce entirely new weapons altogether to give to classes instead of existing ones.
I don’t get it. How is a stick better than a rifle? You got a barrel that fires things. Replace bullets with magic. Voila! And it has already been done with mesmers.
Who said elementalists can’t use mechanical things? Hmm? And rangers can’t use guns or staves? Who also said that? I understand theme is important but you’re just not seeing it’s totally possible to use those weapons with the afformentioned theme. Also, all professions feature some form of magic or energy. Even warriors and their ability to channel their rage into powerful moves, and engineers who use electricity and chemistry to produce spectacular effects. As for rangers, they’re basically sold as wardens of nature. Staves would allow them to tap into the more magical aspect of nature, much like druids, and guns allow rangers to pull away a little bit away from nature as a ranged attacker on the modern side.
Yes yes, that’s the whole point of rifles. Single target. I don’t want a reskinned staff.
I’m afraid of that last part. All we can do is wait.
I think it is unlikely that Eles will get a regular option for any of the weapons they already have as conjures.
Also, I think certain weapons are strongly associated with different fantasy archetypes—bows, for instance, are usually paired with archers. It might be difficult to reimagine these weapons in a way that is unique to mages but still true to the “spirit” of the weapon.
Arrows made of fire, blah blah blah. Done before many times.
No buts. I’m tired of posts like the above.
I mean, who ARE you to say elementalists can’t play some weapons? Just look at the so-called mage weapons. The staff is a classic weapon of mages, right? Well, the n when you look past tradition, it’s really just a stick. A stick that somehow makes fireballs appear.
Silly right? No, not really, because it’s already been explained in so many different ways to allow suspension of belief. We channel our energies through it as a conduit, allowing to put forth a form for our thoughts. We imbue it with magic and use our thoughts through discipline to make use of it. Or somebody stuffs a bunch of fireballs into a stick and uses it to set things on fire.
When daggers were announced as elementalist weapons, it quickly became controversial, as they weren’t quite traditional weapons.
Fast forward a year later and nobody bats an eye when an elementalist conjres forth a whip made of lighning using daggers.
So really, I know some of you want swords, hammers, and bows for elementalists. That’s totally fine. Just don’t call us idiots who want weapons that YOU simply don’t like.
If “idea posts” are the tens (hundreds, if you include other class forums) of DOA ideas that Daecollo posts on a monthly basis, then I don’t want them.
Otherwise, there are certainly some solid idea posts (e.g. the Focus thread on the first page).
G-give the rifle thread a read if you havn’t yet.
I’ve read it, and believe it to be orthogonal to what the class needs. Our existing mechanics and weapons are mostly fine. We need some sensible fixes; we don’t need to spread ourselves thin with a weapon that doesn’t fit the class thematically (I’d rather MH sword in that case).
Like how daggers fit the profession?
Fun but looks totally OP, so many fields and finishers its insane lol.
Anet should fix focus before new weapons however.
Completely false.
My weapon skill set has 6 projectile finishers, 3 blast finishers, 1 leap, 1 water field, and 1 lightning field. That’s just 2 combo fields.
Staves have 2 fire fields, 2 water fields, 1 ice field, 1 lightning field, 1 blast finisher, and 2 projectile finishers. That’s 6 combo fields.
And as for the projectile finishers, the number is very mild. Warriors have 5 physical projectiles on rifles, and that’s out of 6. A two handed weapon for elementalists has 20, so 6 projectile finishers out of 20 is only roughly 1/4 of the skill set. Food for thought: the warrior’s rifle has two skills with 20% chance of becoming projectile finishers but are tied to the AUTOATTACK and the VOLLEY skill, which fires five times rapidly. None of the skills on my skill set has projectile finishers tied to autoattack, similar to staves. Only skills that reflect other similar skills with projectile finishers.
Engineers have a single projectile finisher and leap, but that’s because a majority of its skills are utility based, or skills that do not reflect others with projectile finishers.
Any more questions?

Granted. Each minion uses Trahearne’s voice set, in a slightly different pitch.
Moving on.
I wish my character could get romantically involved with an NPC like in Mass Effect.
…. You only get to be romantically involved with Trahearne. HAH.
I wish we can fish.
You get your dungeons and fractals but they are impossible to beat.
I WISH FOR UNICORNS.
I wish for more, new looks for medium armor.
Fixed.
You bet your kitten I’m watching this thread like a hawk.
Justice never sleeps.
Hey Azunai how about a spear?
Not underwater mind you.
I can definitely see some mid range plays. Lots of piercing attacks, cone type AOE’s, and some leaps. New animations like dashing in a straight line with a thrust, damaging everything in its path and additional damage being done to te enemy caught at his destination.
Reminds me of FF dragoons.
Want me to sit on it and come up with a skill set?
(edited by Azunai.5974)
Everyone gets a precursor. Legendary’s promptly removed from the game.
I wish Ritualists would comeback
Ritualists return but then giant mega-troll spawns and rips all their heads off, throws their bodies into the mystic forge which spawns mega-troll’s wife and together they burninate the country side and the peasants.
I wish Mesmers had a permanent swiftness buff.
Granted, but the buff required 2 GrandMaster Traits.
I wish more dungeons and fractals, that provided a really challenge.
I’m on the fence about this… I’ll let it slide.
for now.
You get your dungeons and fractals but they are impossible to beat.

the answer is still no.
BOOOOOOO
Congratulations! You’re Logan’s girlfriend.
You’re a man? Not tonight, you aren’t.
I wish that Guardians got a longbow that fired death lasers.
Oh.
Oh!
OHHHHHHNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I wish a giant mega-troll would spawn and rampage through all major cities and zones, killing every player and npc, rip thier heads off, stomp on them, stick them on spikes and set them on fire. Then burn every city to the ground and kill all the armor repair NPCs permanently.
Gonna hijack this to save the thread.
The giant mega-troll becomes a fun world boss for players to beat.
Equipment no longer have the “durability” stat.
I wish Logan gets a girlfriend.
Granted. Elementalists can now detect stealthed enemies in the general area of 1,200 units. It won’t tell you where they are though.
I wish GW2 was better-optimized.
Meant being able to stealth, but that was pretty funny.
But you’re disqualified.
Next post is free to make a wish.
Read in a condescending voice: "Its cute you think any thing in the class forum matters to the devs. "
But really, it doesnt. And yes Leuca, I would love for the attunement system to be scrapped so I can focus on using lighting attacks as my main damage instead of having to always use fire. I hate fire spells, so kitten generic.
I find the majority of the weapon skills to be fluff. Each weapon set only has 3-4 good skills among the 20 it has access to. Often requiring me to cast 3 spells to do what 1 on other class would do. Air and water really got the short straw when it comes to usefulness be it damage or support. All imo, of course. =รพ
I read all of this in a 10 year old’s voice and it fit so well.
Since the last thread went to hell when some forumgoers couldn’t keep the whine out of their posts because the game isn’t what they want to play.
Again, the rules:
1. You get to make a wish, then the next person corrupts it.
ex.
wish- I wish for a Colin Johanson minipet
corrupted- it will keep attacking you as long it is out
2. Keep balance (read: nerf and buff kitten) and grievances against Anet, the game, and the community out of your post. Otherwise, it will be disqualified and should not be replied to.
3. You may include non-GW2 stuff in your wish.
4. Be creative and have fun!
Here goes: I wish Elementalists got new utilites for stealth.

@Azunai Watch again, my lightning flash always hit someone in the GvG, and I posted this in the elementalist forum not engi. And I wanted to perfoem FGS4+LF if it wouldn’t insta kill me with my enemy having retal.
Sure, but can you quickly target people, as I mentioned several times?
You completely missed the point about fgs/flash. It’s not whether you have to do it, but if you can do it. You also didn’t mention whether you could do earthquake/flash though. You also disregard my example using the engineer as support for my argument that you are not using a targetting-intensive profession because “you posted in the elementalist forums, not engie”. Making kitten arguments by cherry picking my post is insulting when I’m trying to facilitate a real discussion.
Please address all of the issues in my post. I did go through the trouble of outlining all the major problems of a controller setup for you.
I’d prefer pistol main and/or offhand. More likely they would do pistol or rifle or mace or torch etc than the weapons we already have a conjure for.
Ahem
…Seen my rifle ele thread yet? ;D
Yup!
But rifle is too clunky, and I still wanna be able to RtL even in it’s horrendously nerfed state
But, sniping from 1500 with massive blasts of fire, electricity, water, and earth ; – ;
I’d gladly lose some mobility for the chance to do some real sniping in this game!
^Above post sums up my nonsensical rambling perfectly.
Also, OP’s post is offensive in that he assumes that he is the only one (or of a tiny, oh so special few) asking for buffs.
I mean, read the fricking front page. 50/50 intelligent posting and whine.
There’s still a LOT of elementalists standing up for elemental buffs and NO, not all of us are 100% whine.
Anet is the best company ever! They’re always bringing in quality balance patches, fostering a healthy meta, and an environment in which all builds like conjures can get some love!

So I bring this thread to a warrior and they was liek “OMFG NO! STEALTHLONGRANGEBACKSTABNERF” and im liek “Amg just look at it” and they came back a few minutes later and was liek “meh…. its ok i guess”.
Pretty accurate. Similar response to my rifle elementalist thread….

I’m thinking focus should get more sustain. That’s the whole point of elementalist survivability. Have water skills replaced with heals. The rest can focus on cc and defense.
I understand the drive to make threads about improvements to elementalists but please stop pushing your personal agenda.
There are elementalists like me that prefer playing with all four attunements.
Please stop coming up with asinine ideas that benefit only a minority and shafts the rest. Aim for balance ideas that promote build diversity and strengthened theme/performance.
That is what i’m trying to do, but ideas that improve all four attunements with no drawbacks are not something to be really taken into account with, because that means players like you who are very elite get so strong nothing can stop them, because your able to be in all four attunements and be good.
The average player becomes super weak, because they can’t micromanage like that, which is why making traits that lock out attunements but impowers one is a good idea.
But has it occurred to you that we CAN have buffs to promote balanced builds AND be balanced?
Jack of all trades, master of none, that’s what I want.
It’s entirely possible to come up with ideas to promote specialization into an attunement or two. It just takes critical thinking and imagination. Which is, sadly, lacking at the moment for Anet despite the best efforts of dedicated elementalists.
I mean, look at engineers. They can adopt the same role by taking on three kits. Are they overpowered? No. Is anybody crying about them? No. They are proof that balanced playstyles can work and will work with the right minds.
Meanwhile, elementalists like YOU can have YOUR playstyle worked on and made viable. Just don’t have OUR playstyle touched.
Watch my videos, you wouldn’t even guess I’m playing a controller
I did. The slow turning speed bothered me and the ground targetting either rarely or improperly. I can’t imagine you pulling off an earthquake/flash or flash/updraft.
Try this: ice bow 5 -> fgs 4/flash on enemy location -> earth 4/3
If you can’t do it, then I can’t imagine any more of the standard combos being possible with a controller setup.
Plus, you’re taking advantage of the fact that dd ele’s have tons of pbaoe’s and minimal need for figure/ground targetting. Try a profession like engineer or thief. Guardian. Hell, any class that needs active targetting.
In small group fights, targetting the right person will take time and/or luck. Simply clicking on a desired target is much easier.

it should just replace our non existent 2nd weapon slot and we should use the weapon swap feature on it til our charges run out. and dare i say it should have a trait that makes it a 5 second weapon swap CD to switch back to it just like a warrior =P
I hate that idea. It trivializes the use of multiple conjured weapons.
Man, I don’t see the point when you can do so much better on a keyboard…
Drinking won’t make the ele any better. Go home.
but it suuucks
i need my beer goggles to play an ugly class
excuse me as i do this (i’m drunk) but wouldn’t it be sooooo cool if upon dropping an equipped conjured weapon, a copy will be left on the ground with the remaining number of charges.
then you can pick it up again and… do stuff. it’ll actually make that lousy trait that increases chargss worth taking.
tell me your thoughts?
Edit- Just realized this idea was oddly similar to a certain blonde’s move…

bows aren’t particularly magical weapons..
You need a bigger imagination.
edit- Holy hell, how many games have you even played to not have run into magical bows/arrows at least once?

That was a pretty good Troll post, I could even believe you were being paid to make these, it was that good. (and companies do, do that)
If yer not, maybe link it to a few of Anet’s competitors and ask them for a job.
Not his first. Not even sure it’s his best. But after the third one of the same old same old, I’m thinking he’s run out of material. They all say approximately the same thing worded differently.
I was more impressed with the first one.
First one made me lol, the second one made me think:
Gonna keep making threads like this, huh?
My advice, make the thread title as controversial as possible. You name it, they will rage. That’s why the “Appeals to Casuals” one was so successful.
Still, I like the way you troll! Most people think that trolling is making stupid, offensive posts and that’ll make people mad. But that just gives away the game, it tells people that you’re obviously trolling. However, the best kind is when a person states something that’s ignorant or offensive but sounds very sincere. It plays on other people’s need to correct the original post, often in an angry tone. Google Ken M, he’s a legendary troll of Yahoo news but since moved on to Facebook pages and Twitter.
Take a look at this one picture.
http://i.imgur.com/ePm1NqZ.jpg
He starts off with a moronic post. Most people would start off with something quite ineffective, like “Obama is the best president ever, NSA can look at my porn all they want”, but that’s obvious. The thing is, people actually believe Ken M is a moron. Alas, as they say, it was a trap.
People then respond to his post, asking him why they think so. They’re masterfully pulled in when Ken M strikes the last blow. As seen with his last post in that picture. Amazing.
Here’s another brilliant play by Ken M.
http://i.imgur.com/oNvi7Lu.jpg
He opens up with the same thing. But a lot more people are baited by him. He rolls with the punches by posting more obscure messages. More people are baited and a person even starts getting mad at Ken M’s vagueness. And then the last message? Brilliant. He even maintains the same confidence and total ignorance in that last post, when obviously telling everybody it was a ruse.

No thanks, I love how easy it is to get into elementalists yet how much further I can go with it the more I play.
What it needs is balance changes.
I definately remember the karka event, it was absolutely terrible, like, a massive joke, and a huge clusterbleep.
But that does make it memorable, not necessarily a bad thing.
Looking back at a game and being like “Omg yeah I remember that! Horrible lmao!” with someone else is always fun.
I hope one day I’ll be looking back and saying “Omg remember how champ zerg farming was the only efficient way to make money? And dungeons were pretty meh, and there wasn’t much build variety/skills, and condition caps made condition builds useless? Yeah good times”.
Because it would be a thing of the past. =D
Do… Do you enjoy ruining threads like this? What’s the point? Because you can’t enjoy a game like others do?
Don’t bother to respond, because I won’t.
Back on topic. GW2 definitely sticks out in my memories. It was the first mmo I actually RP’d in and it was a blast. So many fun times in my guild. I got kicked out in the end due to complicated chains of events, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
C, if you’re reading this, thanks for being my worst enemy and then my best friend.
The thing about thoughts and opinions, as long as they are in your mind they are yours to keep and remain unsullied and unchallenged. The moment you speak them or write them to the masses you best be prepared to have good and bad responses and perhaps respect those whose don’t necessarily share your opinions for sharing theirs.
I couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit offended by your implication that I don’t understand that people have different opinions.
But yeah, honestly, I skimmed his post, saw some key words like “horrible” and “terrible” and thought I had the basic gist of his post before posting mine. Sorry, Knote! I’m just in a bad mood today and not quite myself now. I guess the negativity in GW2’s forums is starting to affect me.

use perplexity runes
toolkit, p/s… other utilities are your choice
its op.
hell you dont even need precision, switch to some dire.
Precision works really well with proccing a poison sigil and bleed/burn on crit traits.
But yeah, just revolving around perplexity runes instead of everything else may work with dire stats. But I don’t recommend it.
We read all the threads – including this one. Thanks for making the effort and taking the time OP!

P.S. Your english, while broken up a little bit, was still perfectly fine. I think I understand all the points you were making. It’s better than my rusty-kitten Japanese, so kudos to you for making the post!

OMFFG HEAL ME INSTEAD OF THE TANK THAT’S OBVIOUSLY KEEPING THE BOSS OFF US
OMFG WHY IS THE TANK SO BAD I KEEP AGGROING BECAUSE I CAN’T MANAGE MY DPS
AAAAHHHHHH
Yeah, I totally miss that.
You mean there are eles that use focus in WvW? Shocked!
Focus is still nice for fights. I mainly use it when facing a ranged guy to control his damage output while bursting him down.
There’s still plenty of elementalists, including myself, that enjoys using the focus, even though it definitely could use some work.

The following fact cannot be un-learned.
Humans are the Blood Elves of GW2.
/hairflip
Why. Whyyyyy. Cannot unsee.
Hmm, don’t know what to tell you. Never had to go to another races area to level up or spend any money to level up, and I have 3 character of 3 different races, and only about 10% of the content they have been through have been the same as the others. Are you skipping the events, and just doing your character missions, and the hearts?
My brother also has about 3 characters, and among his 3 characters he has been to zones that none of my 3 characters have been to, and vice versa.
I agree with this post. Your starting area should be sufficient for leveling. I’ve never had to go to another area of the same level. Just do events, hearts, explore, and story missions and you’ll be fine.
Try asura/charr, they’re my favorite for story missions.
Here ya go!
Very good mix of survivability and burst. Bit low on healing power but that’s fine. I have about 5 other builds sitting around if you want them. Just tell me what you really want out of your spec.
Things to note when building:
1. Account for precision and fury when going for a bursty build. I feel that for it to work, you need either high precision and you can forgo boon duration to pick up more survivability or utility from melandru or traveler runes, while also taking ten out of air and into somewhere else like earth, OR go for lower precision (minimum 10%) and definitely go for boon duration runes and 10 in air to stack fury for 30%.
2. Consider your food carefully. If you already have high enough condi removal from 30 in water and/or ether renewal, you can opt for a different food to increase burst (100prec+10%crit if your crit rate is too low OR 100pow+10%crit if you have about 20 already) If you run 20 in water and feel too pressured by condi’s, consider the -40% condi duration food. It stacks nicely with 2 runes in Melandru, for a total -50% reduction. This is mainly a good food for builds leaning to survivability.
3. When creating a balanced build, try to stay above 2.5k armor and 14k health. Let the WvW buffs take care of your health and try to build towards toughness rather than vitality.
4. When including crit damage in your spec, keep them on trinkets and weapons. Armor pieces generally have bad crit damage. Do keep in mind that armor has vit/crit and trinkets have both vit/crit and tough/crit. When doing a mix of both, out vit/crit on armor and tough/crit on trinkets. Use weapons to round out your build, usually to either increase crit rate to acceptable levels or to get enough toughness, so pick between beserker and cavalier weapons.
5. Do keep in mind that when making a heal spec, keep your healing power above 1k or it won’t keep up. You’ll need healing power on both armor and trinkets to achieve this, so go for either heal/cond or heal/pow. I personally recommend heal/cond but it requires a different playstyle than a direct damage approach. Weapons are to round out your build, of course.
6. I’ve ran many tests on celestial stats and never really found a good balance. Often times, mixing three-stat gears were much more balanced overall. And honestly, not worth the grind. Try mixes of knight/cavalier or soldier/beserker and so on.
7. As for utilities, I find cantrips a must unless you’re some sort of one-shot spec. When going for burst, avoid arcane precision unless you plan on taking the arcana trait, Elemental Surge, (makes the next five attacks proc an effect based on attunement, with no cooldown. Very good for conjured weapons) for lots of immobilization and blinds. Always consider taking lightning flakitten’s an all around fantastic skill for offensive and defensive purposes. Also, personally, I’ve always liked taking lightning hammer with me for more CC and damage than over armor of earth.
edit-
8. Pay attention to sigils. Especially as to what stat you want per kill. The rule of thumb is power becomes more useful once you get enough crit rate. Basically, get crit rate up to snuff then invest more into power. I feel this point is around 30-40% crit rate, fury being included. When building a balanced spec, you may have a build on your hands that has higher effective health but your damage suffers. Sigils can help round that out. Onthe other hand, you could have plenty of both but lacking in healing oower, so get that. Oh, and pay attention to when you have full stacks. When that occurs, switch to an identical weapon with a permanent effect. You’ll keep the stacks. Usually, I go with 10% damage at night but stuff like additional crit chance works too.
Any more questions? Feel free to ask.

fire #4, fire #5, water #4, and air #4 are all very lacklustre.
I’ve always thought water #4 should be a 600 leap with a chill.
Focus needs a mobility skill.
Air 4 is absolutely amazing. 6 seconds of huge aoe projectile nullification is just really good for its recharge. Honestly Air 5 is in a worse state just because of recharge.
I don’t think focus needs mobility if it actually gets to a point where it can area control efficiently like it should. However, it needs a lot of work to get there.
I’d love for a true area denial/control spec for ele’s. ): Mobility is all good and that but I’d love to just bunker down and be ready for the apocalypse.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
While I admit FC did some bad moves like spamming AOE’s (fire 4, ice 3, earth 2) when not near the target, rtl/updraft against a target moving away, using CC’s ontop of each other (instead of using them in decisive chains for interrupts to proc perp runes), not quite using dodge to avoid some moves (should’ve paid attention to the guardian’s greatsword animations and when the engineer equips toolkit to pull/stack confusion on you), and just some small insignificant errors that can be excused for even experienced players.
But there is no need to be rude on his thread. Please post constructive criticism and then move on. I, for one, enjoyed watching FC’s video and think he is an experienced elementalist with just some bad habits.
So please, chill.
Like this?
The damage from conjures and other weaponry of the like had an unintended increase from the patch on September 3 as a side effect from another change, so this fix was just to correct that bug. It’s not to say we’re against increasing ele conjured weapon potential in the future.
Cheers!
-KarlOH MY GOD! A dev post in the ele subforum! Rejoice!
On a serious note, it’s good to hear you’re considering increasing conjured weapons potential. The ones that need a harder look at are Shield and Axe. They suck so bad I’d rather take a human racial skill than these utilities. XD
Either changes to the mechanic of the conjured weapons themselves, or better individual skills, or more useful and accessible traits will be so much welcomed!
Don’t knock the axe, it has pretty insane burning and burst damage. The shield does need work, though. Reduce the cooldowns and modify skills to be more defensive than just a mixed bag of half-baked skills.
If conjured weapons can’t work like kits, they should at least equipinstantly.
You pretty much have no choice at all if you want to do d/d. If you still want to stick with fire and earth, try a scepter instead. Otherwise, you’ll have to kite a lot in d/d and you’ll have to wait a while for your big spells to come back up. Water is extremely important for healing and air for mobility and cc.
That said, investing in survivability is okay but power is nice if you can manage dodges well and use conjures to max effect. Try the flaming axe, it’s pretty kitten.
