Charr ate them all. True story.
And they were delicious!
There’s no advantages to having any race/profession combo, so you’re free to choose whichever you want! Personally I really like Thief, it’s an extremely active class since your weapon skills don’t have cool-downs, although you’ll need to manage your iniative.
I’d recommend that you just try out some and see what you like the most!
Honestly, I wish they would add fishing, but I’d rather it be an interesting little mini-game with fun rewards!
That could be fun
I imagined a scenario where you stand on the shore where you can fish, with an asura high tech fishing machine. And you need to input with what bait do you fish, how thick the thread is etc. And if you make a bad combination for example, then a hostile barracuda could pull you underwater and initiate a fight
Or you could pull out a skale or river drake.
Haha, sounds neat! Fishing up random enemies might be fun, that should be a reasonably rare occurrence though. One of the things I miss about WoW is fishing away somewhere while listening to a podcast!
It’d be great if you had a chance to fish up crafting mats, maybe even pieces of equipment or lore related trinkets/scrolls/books!
If a sense of progression is the only thing that makes you want to play the game, then you might need to change your mindset. I’ve used the same Engineer build for about 150 levels (Got to level 40 first two betas, level 30 third beta, and now level 80 Engineer in release)
Still having fun, because the fun is not in leveling up and getting new stuff. The fun is in playing the game, exploring the world and enjoying the lore. The progression is coincidental, it happens as a natural thing that occurs while you play through and enjoy the game.
Reading through this tread, not a single person said that, so I’m not sure where you’re getting that from. Just because I think progression could be done better, or even that progression is important, doesn’t mean that progression is the “only thing” that makes me want to play GW2… This evidently isn’t the case, since I still love the game, even though progression stops almost entirely after level 30 except in the traditional, linear fashion of; I now do more damage!
Nooo, nooo, not at all! That sounds insanely boring! Honestly, I wish they would add fishing, but I’d rather it be an interesting little mini-game with fun rewards! Not some glorified facebook game >.>
My main problem with the game at the moment lies in the lack of progression. It feels like GW2 was designed with the level cap at 30, and 50 more levels were added as an afterthought.
I’d like to see some unlockable weapons skills in the trait lines, and also improved traits. The traits in GW2 are extremely boring and not play-style altering at all. +33% bleed chance on critical is great and all, but it’s not changing the way I’m playing, is it?
How about having a trait that say, allows me to wield a two-handed weapon in each hand? Yeah, I know, I hate to use a WoW example but it’s a good’un! This could unlock a set of entirely new weapon skills you could use!
Please give us an option to tone it down. This is ridiculous.
Hahaha, this gave me a good laugh, thanks for that! xD
Totally in agreement here! Too many particle effects give me this weird, dream like feeling when I look at them for too long… Anyone else get this? I also get the same feeling when I haven’t had enough sleep, very strange.
I honestly don’t mind the decreased amount of active abilities we can have (although I wouldn’t complain if they added more), I’d just really like something to look forward to after level 30… 30-80, at least in terms of progression, doesn’t need to be there. It’s like they stopped designing the progression after level 30… The level cap may as well be 30.
I need to go to bed soon, but I think we’re saying the same thing just in different ways. You want something more to look forward to as you level, and I would like a greater assortment of battle strategies and abilities available as your character levels.
I think they amount to the same thing. We both want more variety in gameplay.
You’re right, sounds like we do want the same thing!
I hope my suggestions aren’t looking too negative. Thank you ArenaNet for making this fantastic game! Although I think there’s definitely certain things I might of done differently, this is still, in my opinion, the best MMO on the market at the moment!
Anyone else finding that they’re playing exactly the same character that they were at level 20-30 at level 80? Beyond your elite skills there’s nothing to really look forward to in terms of character progression.:)
I feel same way. There’s just not much depth or complexity to the combat design. Once you learn all of your weapon skills – which can be almost instantly as soon as you start the game – there isn’t much left except a few utility moves on long cool downs and short durations. None of it is particularly exciting.
This game could really benefit from a combat-overhaul. Or at least add some new classes with more intricate designs for players who want more combat options. Perhaps have a system where there are beginner classes for people who like just having a couple of moves to manage – and then an advanced class for players who enjoy a wide assortment of abilities and battle strategies available to them.
Simplified gameplay is not for everyone.

So my problem atm is im currently level 32 Ranger and im getting pretty bored already, i feel as tho once i got to 30 and got all the skills i wanted now it just seems….repetitive and now i have no urge to play anymore which really sucks cuz ive been waiting soon long for this game.
Ive tried pretty much every class, i have a level 21 Elementist and that got boring fast lol ugh i want to play but i just dont feel it anymore
What can be done?!
OMG! So I’m NOT crazy?! I feel exactly the same way! And trust me, it doesn’t get better. I’m level 80 now and I’m playing my character in exactly the same way I did at level 30. Honestly, those 50 levels don’t even need to be there. They could of left the level cap at 30 and things would of been the same.
Anyone else finding that they’re playing exactly the same character that they were at level 20-30 at level 80? Beyond your elite skills there’s nothing to really look forward to in terms of character progression. Sure, we have traits, you say? Great, but I’m still doing the same thing I was before, just now my attacks have a 33% chance to add bleed on a critical, not fun what-so-ever.
A solution to this, or at least a start, would be to add unlockable weapon skills (Not utility or elite skills, but your 1-5 skills!) in trait lines. This would also solve another problem, which is that some weapon sets for certain professions are just superior for certain trait builds. If the trait builds themselves had the appropriate skills as unlockables, you could use whatever weapons you want and still play to the strengths of your build!
So, I’m looking to craft a piece of armor for my new warrior! I’m short on the 3 weak blood vials I need, so I check out the trading post: 1.5 silver a piece. On a hunch I decide to look up the actual item I’m about to craft instead, 60 copper…
I realize this is probably due to the game being new and there being high demand for crafting materials, and with so many people crafting, a surplus of the actual items. But I think it’d be a great idea to add some bind on pickup items to improve incentive for actually picking up and leveling a crafting profession. As it is at the moment it’s not worth the time and money it costs to level it, when you can just buy the items you could make for next to nothing on the trading post.
Maybe even adding some things like sharpening stones that you could make from items that are found in abundance, to give people who put the effort into leveling crafting a little boost!
