I’m surprised its not a whirl finisher.
Just a random thought in the mists.
Here’s what my asura mesmer looks like:
^ Anyone know what color that is?
Edit: the blue/gray colorIt’s Deep Glacial Sky and Celestial.
Thanks wookie ^.^

This may sound corny but as an ele I don’t necessarily feel “powerful” at max level. Its more like I have achieved a deeper understanding of the elements and how they are used. Which in turns leads to some nuke like moments
What gloves are those o-O?
IMO arcane power works best with d/d.
Still having fun
Sure I still wish eles had as much diversity as mesmers but still happy overall.
I also actually like the new distance of rtl. It allows for better repositioning rather than flinging across the map. I still find the cooldown obnoxious though.
Just want to see some class wide buffs in certain areas but for now I’m good.
I wonder if some of you even realize that D/D is considered nonviable by many top level players. S/D is the preferred weapon set, with it’s higher healing, blinds to secure stomps (saves mist form), free armor, longer range, spamable low cooldown abilities for signet heal, zoning ability, burst, etc.
Crying about D/D is kind of a sign that you don’t actually understand the problem and shouldn’t be taken seriously in balance discussions.
This is something I’ve always thought too.
It’s funny when you hear people say “scepter is basically unusable”. I’m like whaaaa
I thought I may have been the only one. (sigh of relief)
I have always found dps oriented builds to be much easier utilized with a scepter main hand rather than a dagger (More so with RTL nerf). D/D aoe is fairly easy to kite away from and predict imo. More reason why glass builds (especially d/d) are at a disadvantage.
I’ve played my fair share of some of dat s/d but what i find funny (through spectator mode) is that no one even uses cloak and dagger anymore.
1. Sword main hand and offhand weapon set. (sword/sword and sword/dagger ele op)
2. Conjures to work like Engi kits or something similar.
3. Fire and air traits brought up.
Random order
Edit: 4. Innate defense mechanic that doesn’t involve traiting.

^……You sir have made my day.
Ikr XD i played a slayer and sorc. Slayer was the fave and i just couldn’t love the sorcerer as much as I love my ele.
LMAO dude i went through the same exact thing. I lasted like a week plus some in TERA. It’s just like you said great combat and graphics but everything else is a bit shallow imo.
Thieves honestly do not get enough credit imo. The class is based on critical reactions/timing/decisions. Heavy emphasis on decisions. Initiative gives thieves freedom to do what they want but at a cost and only for so long. Too much investment in said freedom can lead to a dead thief.
Almost poetic when you think about
(Looks to sky feeling like an artist)
^ dat focus (no trolling dead serious)
you’re pretty pathetic if you think your class is dead just because they put it in it’s place. dumb bunker builds healing right through my damage and getting away from what should be kills is ridiculous. and then to top off the cherry on the kitten pie, they can burst me down just as fast? you deserve to be nerfed.
adapt, and learn to play, rather than hopping on a bandwagon just because it’s stupid strong.
…You do realize he’s talking about glass eles right? You know the eles you never hear about? The nerf didn’t just tone down the bunker build it down right nerfed the elementalist class as a whole.
People feel inclined to go bunker in the first place to survive. This patch was a nerf to the ele of all forms and all aspects. (Excluding Signets)
If anything you may see more eles go bunker because dps eles can no longer zip in and out of harm. Instead they have to face tank since ele has no “real” class bound defensive or even offensive mechanic while being the light armor low dps guy (you have to trait for water heals and boon procs).
The attunements by themselves are nothing without their respectable trait lines. I don’t even want to mention the constriction of the arcane line.
Class mechanics
Necro Deathshroud -Defense/Offense
Thief Stealth -Defense/Offense (backstab)
Mesmer Shatters -Offense/Defense
Warrior Burst -Offense
Ranger Pets -Offense/Defense
Engineer Toolbelt -Utility/Offense/Defense
Guardian Virtues -Offense/ Defense (More inclined)
Elementalist Attunements -Spec for utility
I’m honestly happy for s/d thieves brings out more diversity and counter play. Hopefully one day damage focused eles will receive this love.
talk about fast
I’d say go for mesmer from a pvp perspective they have so many creative options in how you want to play/attack.
Plus how many games do you know that let you create illusions of yourself.
Time of death…. 4/30/13 12:47pm est….Nurse, inform the victims family.
jk jk
the filtered part is me saying five to ten seconds :I
lol funny thing is Air XI would still suck even if it was okitten0 sec cooldown beacause its too situational.
I really don’t understand why swirling winds received that nerf. Tactical play in wvw who knew…
Anyway focus isn’t a bad wep set. More so with the RTL nerf.
Imo glassier ele builds are easier to utilize with a focus rather than offhand dagger. Couple that with an amazing potential for bunkering (I don’t know if this is true never bunkered with a focus but it seems like they would be good for bunkering.) Not to mention the incredible cc and damage mitigation everything outside fire 4 has its uses.
Still think it needs buffs but for the most part just as useful as offhand d
First off i agree that ele survivability is too strong but with that being said bunker eles rarely ever down and kill ppl in a zerg its just hit (more like poke) and run. Nothing to lose ones mind over.
As for other classes… Only other classes that I have actually seen videos of handling zergs or moderate sized groups are mesmers and thieves. In some cases they don’t even have to use bunker builds.
Mesma vids (No thief vids cuz i find the mesmer vids more exciting ;D)
This Warr vid is pretty awesome (more of a group effort but w/e)
Edit: Sorry for double post lagging/ Server error
(edited by Benji.9203)
@Mirta
At the later levels questing xp is way too slow due to the fact that the quest tells you travel from one place to another kill like ten things occasionally for mediocre xp and then at the end gives you like 1/5 of total xp needed to level for what took an hour.
(Mobgrind actually becomes faster later but only in conjuction with a double xp buff that you can buy.)
I in no way needed a costume but it seemed that most “updates” were costume focused.
Global chat, area chat, and lfg chat (which worked like global pretty much) in that game was left unfiltered. I could only go as far as level 40 before I got tired. I have nothing against the Elin race itself but the players and community who would turn those characters into some sick joke while feeling inclined to tell me about it in chat. The jokes weren’t just focused on Elin. Anything that looked female wasn’t safe. I also play Asura and went popori sorcerer.
Note: just my experience. I truly wanted to enjoy the game. Play to kill a BAM from time to time. Also loved the dungeons.
(edited by Benji.9203)
I apologize if I came off as rude I’m just tired and hungry atm :/
Just remembered spectator mode is being implemented so just follow a mesmer and dissect everything he does.
woah woah woah let me get this straight you are telling someone who plays mesmer that he has no idea of the potential his class possesses……okay.
Edit: Also what class do you play (from there we can work a strategy)
If an Asura is the main character I’m down.
I tried Tera too, i enjoy it, never saw any of what the others said, i never made a Elin figured it was for children..
Guildwars 2 has some better features, but Teras combat is miles ahead of GW2, and the gear looks amazing and i missed quest givers, that said Gw2 join for events is a lot nicer..
Don’t get me wrong the combat is amazing. What set me off more than anything was the community. Too many explicit Elin jokes for my comfort level among other things and with global chat you can only imagine (may have been my server’s community that did this).
Burn him down with short bow auto. Throw in some cluster bombs, some poison…
Now the hard part. After a certain percentage its now time for the split second burst attempt. It’s either all or nothing if its mitigated stop. Your done. Pack the bags and go home. If not well then +1 to the highlight reel.
^If your a burst thief (landing cluster bombs is crucial but make sure to not do this when retal is up)
Everyone else pretty much said it. Nothing to add just have to disagree with OP.
Staff added with the right utilities is why mesmers have the potential for top tier in combat mobility and control. I don’t need to tell you why staff is good the above posts have that covered.
All I’m going to say is phase retreat.
A 600 range teleport that moves you away from your target can be traited for a 6 sec cooldown and produces a clone (can be used while stunned). Phase retreat maneuverability is insane. Just youtube phase retreat/ mesmer mobility guides on youtube you’ll see what i mean.
lol hi there glad you enjoy it.
1. Don’t pay attention to forums on any mmo is the general rule and alot of the negativity thats sprouting currently is being produced from the upcoming update. Nerfs etc. you know the deal :I
2. Reasons anyone should love this game
3. I am also a fan of the graphic setting but what blows my mind is the detail implemented in the environments. Whether its in a town or desert. There are so many nooks and crannies to explore and sights to see. I don’t RP but if I did I would believe I have hit jackpot. (Dont forget those jumping puzzles ;D)
4. Content like the adventure box is what makes me love this game even more. Honestly how many mmos can you count go that extra mile to deliver something totally independent and entertaining of itself. Although people complain about “endgame” they seem to forget that the experiences that they have had in this game cannot be compared to anything else they’ve experience in an mmo.
5. Don’t we all.
6. In terms of pvp combat i am a huge fan of how fast paced some of the fights can be. Sure there are imbalances here and there as well as some classes that need more diversity but in due time (hopefully). Another thing i love is that there is alot of room for skill and I find it funny how 2 dodges can completely change the outcome of a fight. Nothing is 100%.
7. Asura > Everything plain and simple…no debate…hmmm..you said human? WRONG!!
So yeah call me a fanboy or whatever just showing some positivity is all
The funny thing about no boon builds is that attunement switching no longer has any utility besides getting a new palette of skills.
ex: switch to earth to soften opposing burst damage
It’s actually very hard to get used to imo.
I once read a post about the idea of stealing a random equipped utility from a target. That would be really cool. I would trade all of mugs damage and healing capabilities as a way to compensate for balance but that’s just me nothing serious.
I have to disagree with the suggestions involving anti stealth mechanics. Implementing such a mechanic would either be so situational its pretty much useless (unless your paranoid and believe thief demons are around every corner of LA trying to backstab you) or it would just render the thief’s main defensive ability useless.
Don’t get me wrong d/p stealth can get annoying not OP just annoying.
If they upped the damage by 30-40% sure why not.
Dat focus (No trolling. Dead Serious)
Trying to stay positive
If there is anything I’m hoping for it’s that ANET decided not to mention a plethora of buffs for fire and air traits as a belated April Fools jab.
Not gonna lie after hearing the RTL nerf was tempted to jump ship but w/e ELE TIL I DIE (or become to busy to play)
E.T.I.D.
^ It is too difficult to go back. It kinda makes me worried for games like blade and soul.
Don’t get me wrong TERA’s combat was interesting but the heavy gear grind, dull questing, classism, and terribad pvp imbalance was too much for me.
(also the trolls….s-so many trolls q.q)
OP……Welcome Home
but seriously everything you stated is the exact same reason i love this game and want to see it grow.
p.s. dont play TERA
I didn’t read your whole post but after like a paragraph i knew exactly what you went through.
Dude the same thing happened when i tried out TERA for like a week. Worst online community i have ever experienced. It felt like their was a troll around every corner. The gear and level grind were ridiculous (happens when you stay away from asian mmos). The develpers only seemed interested in farming money from its customers (A costume box set was $60). And do not get me started on one their playable races called the Elin…..

The card game Magic: the Gathering was first published in 1993. People have been claiming the game is dying for 20 years. The folks at Wizards of the Coast laugh about it every time they cash their paychecks.
These threads are meaningless rumormongering.
lmao
pvp/wvw
1.Mesmer (easy against melee or direct dps)(moderate/hard against condi builds) lots of room for creativity in how you want to attack someone and the in combat mobility is to die for.
2.Engi Very fun playstyle can be very challenging. SO MUCH (potential) BUILD DIVERSITY. Alot are useless but still funny quirky builds (I made a perma cripple build once) Like the mesmer their are a lot of creative ways to combo and play.
3.Ele Main can be easy or hard depending on how you spec. If i feel like going dante must die/yolo mode than 30/30/0/0/10 it is.
4.Thief Same with ele easy or hard depends on spec. The glassier and less stealth focused you go the harder it gets imo.
5. Asura OP

Why do people keep insisting on posting these diary threads about how they can’t enjoy GW2? If you don’t enjoy it, stop posting on the forums about it and move on to another game.
You can thank Facebook and Twitter. We’re raising an entire generation of children who can’t decide what’s for dinner without tweeting about it. And asking for votes.
You have just made my day XD
I’m well aware this trait would only benefit x/d users but as it stands currently offhand dagger is more oriented towards damage rather than offhand focus or staff and lightning is a damage focused traitline. Plus this is less of a suggestion more of a “if” “would” scenario (I have a huge disdain for the utility of tempest defense.)
RTL damage has always been too low to really fit into a burst rotation and too predictable to perform a combo with against anyone who has played long enough. During open field fights (WvWvW) i would use it for re-positioning and roaming in general rather than engaging. (Only time i have ever loved RTL for its gap closing capability was against a solo portaling mes/ or s/x thief….but that’s another story).
If you want to bunker up that’s okay as long as you can’t speed away like a roamer. If you want dps and mobility that’s okay as long as you can’t face tank.
Hell if they actually went through with this at least there would be more of a valid reason to go 30 air.
Honestly RTL on a 40 sec cooldown isnt much of a disengage especially for the glassier setups anymore. (More so for scepter main hand)
I mean come on after this patch if you were to fight an ele and they RTL’d away and you knowing full well that for 40 secs they are pretty much screwed tell me you wouldn’t go that extra 1200 and finish them.
If the d/p thief is built for stealth and not right out burst the s/d has no chance as long as the d/p is competent.
