Eh? This is the least expected from a Necro. I mean honestly. Necro are the least to worry about this change. While Warrior is Immune to Dam while in Berserker Stance, but that only Direct Damage, Condition Dams still go through like normal and he is still objected to CC. Necro is very good at doing pressure with Conditions Dams? Why worry?

Endure pain nullifies direct damage application.
Berserker stance nullfies condition application.
It’s like the engineers automated response except its a utility with no pre-requisite.
Ele players are the loudest whiners on the forums. Most just play the same old boring bunker set and then complain that there’s no damage or they die too easy when they’re throwing their dodges away for a blast finisher.

I’m nowhere near being a necro expert but from what I’ve gathered in anything other than a 1v1 it’s generally better to not have a full utility bar of minions. It also seems minions are better for the utility they bring rather than their raw damage. They are also potential sacks of life force so you should be ecstatic when they die. As far as dungeons go I have no idea.

Healing has been nerfed in sPvP for signet of restoration. So healing did get nerfed already the mist form nerf was a direct nerf to how effective Ether renewal was for burst healing.
IMO rock solid and ether renewal go hand in hand without making things ridiculous.

I’m saying everything is viable in pve. Also using 30 fire in pvp isn’t viable. at. all. Not even 10 fire is. So you will never have more than 3.3 seconds immobilize in PVP. And that’s what should be balanced around. Not some mode where your level and equipment counts more than your build or skill.

I can’t really take the complaints about ele nerfs seriously tbh. Even after the nerfs i’d still rather play my ele over my warrior. It’s far more forgiving.
Then you are VERY bad at playing a warrior. That’s the best class in the game by far.

I’d be more worried about them nerfing longbow though it is vastly underrepresented.
Out of the dozens of matches I have played since the patch. The one thing that I see more and more warriors doing is using longbow and its really annoying.

After the these past patches DPS eles are stronger than ever and are even more effective. Honestly if RTL was kept the same currently there would be NO REASON what so ever to run a burst thief over a dps ele if all you want is a team gibber (plus you get heals and combo fields). With all the nerfs to thieve’s burst damage it can be argued that S/D DPS eles do more burst damage than thieves currently (plus the generally better sustain with a valks ammy). Also If you are going to play offensively you have to play intelligently. You need to pick your fights well and stay in the backline. RTL is on a 20 sec cooldown if you hit the target (offensive push from A-net). The Fresh Air trait allows you to pretty much go back into air on a whim if things go wrong. Lightning flash has been turned into a pseudo stunbreak with a damage boost.

They did lessen ele stacking. Pre-nerfs ele could literally do it all. There was really nothing you could say against a 5 ele team composition wise. Nothing was compromised. Eles by themselves were/are potent but when stacked it would become obnoxious. (perma regen, protection, might stacking, high mobility, control etc.) Imagine if bunker guards could “leap” 1200 every 20 secs without a target, were able to put up consistent aoe with control effects, etc…

The problem with stacking 5 eles was the aoe heals and condi clearing, NOT RTL. They nerfed the wrong thing.
The old RTL allowed super mobile bunkers to exist. You could argue that a BM bunker ranger has even higher mobilty than the pre nerf ele but they brought nowhere near the same amount of team utility/support.
And IIRC they didn’t even question the severe RTL nerfs. So put someone else on there who actually asks difficult questions to the devs. We don’t need people simply agreeing with everything JonSharp says on the show.
They themselves (along with most people) knew the ele needed to be toned down. At first it seemed harsh but now it seems the change was for the better. There was a reason people would stack 5 ele teams.
And there was a thief on the April SOTG who actually questioned the devs decision in nerfing RTL because of how it may effect DPS builds and the overall health of the ele.
The May edition of SOTG had 2 eles on it. Phantaram and Zoose.
The same thing happened to me earlier today. I realized that in order for the target to be knocked down they actually have to “move” in the slick shoe trail. If you stand still you don’t get cced.
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter. The opponent can choose to stand there and die or fall down repeatedly and die.
So the day has come where necros are more mobile than eles eh? Only thing left to do is hope Dapheonix can save us from this nightmare!

Most mobile profession… that’s good for a laugh! Ele’s are at the bottom, and ele’s are the only class that can’t survive a normal fight without being mobile.

Focus is an extremely underrated weapon. People don’t use it because they’re too blinded with the DPS bandwagon. Focus is a control weapon, and it’s amazing at what it does. My only real complain about it is flamewall which is pretty lame, but all the other skills are way superior to dagger offhand
^I agree with this for the most part but i wouldn’t say dagger offhand is inferior to focus. Dagger offhand adds to the “nuke” setup (nicely if I say so myself) while focus fills the defense/control niche. x/f is actually IMO the superior 1v1 weapon. d/f control and damage mitigation is beautiful.

You can cast gale without facing target too. Gale is hard to spot already but doing a turnt away gale plus turnt away burning speed > LF on top of enemy no one sees coming ( I just thought of the turnt away gale> turnt away burning speed> lightning flash just now…..gonna have to try this….)

Engineers defensive capabilites were nerfed if they were not played as bunker and you could never facetank as an offensive engi.
HGH engis are dead (were fading away with elixir s nerf). With the nerfs to elixir r and s HGH is impractical. Even regular condi engis are having a hard time with the elixir r nerf.
I run -40% condition duration food.
Anyone else find it awesome that now you don’t know what an ele will bring to the table….I do

The fix is to reduce the damage that terror deals. Put it back to X damage from fear, and take away the extra damage on condition component like it used to be, and everyone can stop the crying.
This is the wrong fix. It will hurt terror condi builds in every part of the game but 1v1 duels over points.
People will figure out that not taking stability, not anticipating the fear, and not taking condition removal/stun break is going to be bad against a necro. This is no different than everyone who played glassy, then discovered that backstab thieves would 2 shot them, so they stopped. People who didn’t anticipate the CnD…. etc etc.
This is the right fix, but people don’t want to hear it.
An acceptable fix would be to reduce doom to a 1 second baseline. To appease kittens it might be reasonable to adjust spectral wall.
Seriously – we just got something that provides a small bit of help in one part of the game. That small bit of help is easily managed if people drop their glass builds. Furthermore, as far as I can tell, that small bit of help almost puts us on par with what other classes can do, and have been able to do. To get that small bit of help, it is necessary to go 30 points into a tree that wasn’t amazing to begin with.
I ran into one of the new terror necros the other day. I run -40% condition duration food. The new terror build was not very impressive.
wvw is imbalanced
Worst downed state skill? NOBODY suffers like the thief in that aspect. A downed thief is under most circumstances, a dead thief.

This leads to really lame fights. Necro vs necro used to be skill based. Necro itself used to be skill based. Now it isnt. There is no skill to the necro anymore.

Oh you guys are a bunch of spoil-sports. So many more ele builds are gonna be viable now. Taking signets or Arcana or Glyph utilities won’t just be something to do to screw around with when you just want to have fun, but a real, legit strategy.
Plus the staff got some major improvements that will make it much quicker to use, which means using it in smaller engagements will be less suicidal. I’m sure the Ele needs more changes than these, but I actually really like the direction ANet is moving here.

I never played GW1 but from what I keep hearing about the GW1 mesmer it seems like the GW2 necro plays more like the GW1 mesmer maybe even more so after the patch.

2. No one will use GoEP or cleansing fire.
3. No one will use focus still.

So basically, a survivability nerf to every build on top of faceroll zero counterplay instagib scepter builds everywhere. At least we’ll have more variety now.

Especially #4. Dagger main hand is all about sustained damage and control ( IMO d/f has so much synergy in the amount of cc its able to dish out….excluding fire 5 and 4).
For d/x to become a burst set the weapon skills would need a major rehaul and to be honest a trait like Fresh Air had to be implemented. If eles were to ever have a reason to get out of 30 arcane/ 20-30 water this is it.
Scepter burst can be insane (when used with arcane specifically) I will not deny that but at the end of the day the ele can still EASILY die with no means of stealth or damage mitigation.
the choice is easy when choosing between mages in GW2:
Easy Mode: Mesmer
Nightmare Mode: Elementalist

It’s pretty much the one class in the game that has to commit themselves when they enter a fight.
To put it simply: A necro escaping a zerg or surviving/winning a 2v1 is a highlight reel in and of itself.

fresh air is not doing anything about the cooldowns for the actual weapon skills. yes, you can get more Electric Discharges to fire, but what is the point if the skills in air are all still going to be on cooldown?
I’m sorry I did not mean to sound condescending or anything like that. I’m just super excited if this is real. I do not assume it will refresh lightning skills (my initial reaction) I now assume it will refresh air attunement.
An air attunement recharge would be insane on a s/d dps ele. Lightning strikes can hit for an instant 2k+ on crits. With with 15 point trait electric discharge you can proc a lightning strike whenever you switch into air. In addition the scepter # 2 is an instant lightning strike on a 5 second recharge (another 2k+ damage). In a course of 10 seconds within a fight it is possible to deliver 8k damage just by using lightning strike procs from switching attunements and scepter #2.
A true glass eles biggest issue is the restriction of the arcane line (excluding survivability issues). Not only does going without arcane hamper dps and survivability but overall it’s rather impractical and made builds like a 30/30/0/0/10 ele gimmicky and unsound.
Fresh Air not only allows eles the unpredictability in rotation but it also creates a means to perform rotations at a faster pace.
Example of the typical: Air > Fire > Earth > Water (repeat or play off the situation)

Example of Fresh Air: Air > Fire > Air >Earth > Air > Fire > Water > Air
Basically air attunement is on a 5 second cooldown regardless of your points in arcane. The effectiveness is left alone to the imagination.
Fresh Air does not solve all the issues but its a great place to start. Again i did not mean to sound like a jerk (I Apologize). It’s just that I want to share in my excitement if these notes are real.
Edit: IMO Ele grandmaster traits should change the way you play the class completely and I think Fresh Air does just that.

Traits like fresh air are exactly what ele grandmaster traits should be like. A trait that completely changes the way the class is played. Examples are evasive arcana and ele surge.
With this trait you are no longer predictable, there is no more a basic rotation for an ele (exactly what an offensive ele needs) This trait alone alleviates the pressure of the arcane traitline. To sum it up air attunement is on a 5 second cooldown. Couple that with arcane utilities and your free to go into air whenever you please (minding the ICD). This is HUGE. Imagine a rotation of air > fire > air…WAIT WHAT???
Don’t even get me started on those lightning procs. I would go as far to say that this is borderline OP in terms of damage output. 6/25/13 Is a good day for s/d burst eles everywhere.
As for the fire line…still not optimal IMO
Persisting flames change : Fury outside of arcana is a good start in the right direction
Lava tomb change: ICD reduced… LMAO they know you will be downed alot.

overall an interesting patch. My highlight is fresh air (I now feel like an engi with light armor). Still some useless util (cough signet actives cough) but one step at a time.
