Season 5 was a huge success NA in my mind. Our community is full of idiots however who ruined the leaderboards.
A macro being available doesn’t change much. The game has limiting factors. And if they really are macroing, then countering that should be predictable and easy.
The macros do not do anything other than simplify keypresses into a single one. The abilities still have cast times etc. The ones that people complain about being “macrod” are the ones that do not have cast times, and macros have 0 impact on those since a person can just press multiple keys at once.
In fact, macroing like that places you at an actual disadvantage since you cannot respond to blocks, evade, los’s, or ranging.
In the DH case, most people kitten that they drop multiple traps at once and also combo the DH pull into trap into LB 3 out of trap combo. That’s pretty simplistic to do already, and if they macro it, just throw some stab into the mix or anything else to ruin their setup and place stuff on cooldown.
We’re not saying people don’t do it, but it’s no big deal. In fact, I’d rather fight players that DO macro like that than don’t because they are predictable, and easy to defeat.
I see this come up a lot, but as someone who plays several classes with “burst” combos like that (Fresh air ele, etc), it’s really not difficult with good keybinding and habits.
Instants can be done at the same time, you can pop them all at once if you want. So pressing them nearly simultaneously is easy.
As noted, TTK is low in this game and that’s a bad thing.
Competitive games generally have a higher TTK for a reason.
You may want the slower fights. I like them too, but they are bad for the game.
The game is designed to require actions to play. Meaning, if you do not dodge, move, or block or anything then yes, you will be instagibbed by a burst damage build. That’s intentional and it’s fine. Why? Because it’s so trivial to avoid those attacks.
Rev is just the hardest class to play in pvp right now. Apparently for top tier it is still pretty ok, but for the vast majority of players they are just better off playing something like dragonhunter, or really any other class.
While I’m not going to argue that there’s a huge difference between a fresh rev and a rev who knows what he’s doing now, I’m going to completely disagree that they are the hardest class to play now.
Their damage got nerfed. Their 1v1 potential is significantly diminished (still possible). They’re teamfighters now and we still combined with the team do a great job of opening up bunkers like a tin can.
Rev is still seen in legend and plat quite often, and it will not be going anywhere. It’s just not 100% required now like it used to be.
Can we please see what classes that dominate the leaderboard?
If not, why?
Because many if not most of the people in the leaderboards are playing multiple classes.
why, god, why are there always people that defend a broken mechanic
its a 0.25sec cast time and there is like no way you can dodge it, especially if a good pvper casts it after the enemy dodges (cause in higher tiers nobody double dodges)
okay im totally fine with getting hit by it, im even fine that its an unblockable attack that deals damage, applies burning, cripples, pirces enemies, has a range of 1200 AND only a short cd of 20secs
BUT if youre already not able to block the pull, at least make it dodgeable
It’s not broken. You have plenty of ways of getting out of this once you are tethered as a thief.
It’s consistent. All tether skills in this game work the same way.
i know about shiro roll, but I cant get out from guardian trap with that roll
You can, its just timing based. Need to time it on the pulse of the trap. You’re in evade frames most of the roll, so as long as you time it so the pulse for the knockdown happens during the roll you are fine.
Well played power with interrupts can wreck us. So can book corruptions, and so can condi warriors that know what they are doing.
Stop us during wash the pain away or water overload and catch us with some cc/burst after blowing obsidian flesh and we’re pretty squish.
You can get infinite ascended shards of glory. The last reward box is repeatable (Byzantium – Repeatable) and has 250 Ascended shards of glory in it.
Edit: err, maybe not it says the contents change, let me check this.
People have repeated it. It does not contain ascended shards. 1200 per season currently seems to be your cap.
Were the achievements modified?
This crap again? Traps are not OP.
If you rush into a node defended by a DH and you don’t anticipate trap spam, you made a mistake.
Carry your stability and your immunes etc, rotate through the DH cooldowns, and then pick him apart.
Yes, he will possibly keep you busy on point long enough for his friends to show up. If he’s bunkery, don’t waste time trying to 1v1 it.
Stacking ele will not provide much benefit. DPS ele without being able to use multiple gear stats leaves you with fresh air focus or support ele with dagger/focus/warhorn.
4 support ele will be tough to kill but not the be all end all.
fresh air ele have some fairly easy counters such as stealthing etc.
Hey Evan, thanks for the replies. I’m still curious about if a legendary player could duo queue with a player in their placements. How would the system calculate this?
Everyone still has a rating during placement, we just don’t show it so people don’t freak out when it jumps all over the place.
This is awesome and thank you for being so transparent and open with how the new system works.
I’m not concerned about amber fishing. The ability to fall off in rank with duo queue as cap keeps this from being a huge concern as you mentioned (though it can indeed occur with rare circumstances.)
I’ve not been so psyched for a pvp season in a long long time. Thank you.
Eles did not need buffed. Their community needs to l2p and not skillspam their rotations and they’d realize it’s still perfectly fine. Eles complain about not being able to do damage, but then given the choice 10/10 will hump every defensive trait in the game even if offered 100000% damage.
Without the ability to match gear like in WvW, ele’s are reliant on abilities for more “offense”.
What made the eles of past so powerful was the ability to do sizable damage while also sustaining throughout the fights.
HoT added power creep that’s hence been nerfed slowly down, but the amulet system and the removal of the balanced ammys means that we don’t have easy ways to make those balanced stats.
Scepter F/A tempest is still viable, but is it meta? Idunno.
Ele take those defensive traits because it’s the only means to survive once focused. Not because we want to.
Honestly, while I am very very happy to see pvp balancing, I am sad to say I also have issues with this.
I play 2 out of 3 game modes exclusively. I occasionally dabble in the third. The drastic differences (especially on CDs and whatnot) between game modes gets annoying.
All this will do is further lock people into specific game modes for their class.
If these were split with wvw & pvp vs pve, I might be less annoyed, but I must say, even though I play a class seeing a buff here (fresh air scepter ele) I am bothered by the lack of consistency in game modes.
I know most players love this, but it just really drives me nuts. :P
Nice video man. It’s good to see that the power creep is slowly being nerfed and that d/d’s gaining some of it’s sustain back.
I might give it a shot. Honestly, non tempest feels so weird to me now, but it sure was much more fun to play than spamming air / earth overload.
I love DBL. Sorry. I roam it often and it’s my favorite to zerg train on.
That was kind of my thought as well. I kind of feel I struggled to keep protection up and it was a world of difference without it. With leeching on attune swap, I feel signet heal and that might be enough.
Thanks for the suggestion as well, I wasn’t ware that just 10% more boon duration would have such a profound impact.
Hey all,
I’m currently running the following in a roaming build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQJArdncMAdOg9NAOYC8RglGAbYF0BeBCVgAwH09y2ZHtA-TFSGABnv/QeKBbX9noUeQheAAeAAIcCAGSJGpAiYMA-w
I fair pretty well with it and I’m happy about much of it, but I’m wondering about the celestial gear and trying to think if it makes sense to use something else. Realistically, I like that it gives a little of everything but it’s my primary source of healing power for my measly 214 Hpower.
I am wondering if it’s worth sacrificing the celestial to run say, more serker, or more commander’s for more boon duration instead and therefore getting more uptime on protection.
Thoughts?
Stop trying to defend this. Macros are real and they are being used a lot in this game. I can create a macro to reproduce bursts on classes that are “high” skill level. I can do this at the push of one button. It’s not hard to set it up, and gives a distinct advantage to the person using them b/c they don’t have to worry about actually landing it.
Don’t post here like you can legitly reproduce the combo speeds on par with macros if you aren’t a pro, b/c you can’t. If you could you’d be competing for money and I don’t think a single person in this thread is currently doing that.
Thank You
Yes, macros are real.
No, they are not a concern. The things you are complaining about is what anyone that plays that class long enough learns to do. A fresh air ele will burst like that. That’s what they do. It’s simple because you learn the skill queueing so you know exactly when to press it and it comes across as macrod.
If anything, we need to complain about the number of instacasts that can be queued simultaneosly if you are concerned ab out that, but thats what I love about this game.
That condi thief build sits in evades for almost 100% of the fight. Death blossom spam. and dodge. What you’re saying is to hit them after a dodge, despite the fact my own skills have cast times too which just leads it to being evaded again, especially when it’s on a small point. Outside of condi thief, it’s still dumb that a class can evade several different times, and drop targeting with stealths, and teleports. That’s why i think Signet of Agility needs a change, and stealing for endurance should be halved.
I just want to point out that your own cast times have nothing to do with being able to hit them between dodges. Aka, start casting while they’re in their dodge frame to time it out of their dodge frame.
Sure, they are annoying, but all of their attacks are dodge/blockable for the most part. They are annoying, and sometimes deadly, but once you are prepared they have nothing.
I just don’t understand people complaining about traps. Nothing about traps changed from last season. People just forgot the basic tricks like dodging or invulning them.
Warrior shield is the most effective shield user there is with Chronomancer rivaling it.
A short CD daze + movable block which generally traited reflects and grants might ? Yes please.
Guys… just strip the boons.. problem solved.. Focus target and they’re rip anyway.
I’m overseas with a laptop unable to get more than 6 fps, so I cannot readily test much. My facets activating their secondary effect immediately seems fixed, but how is UA doing?
For me it’s only happened with the heal facet, and once with the elite facet.
If you hold the button too long, it auto activates. Really dumb.
I’m also running into frequent bug where I lose mobility if the skill stops before it ends (such as when enemy is near wall). Losing all mobility after using one of my top skills is a VERY big disadvantage. Hope the hotfix this soon.
Problem is I don’t run Shiro or Shield so I’m very much screwed when I lose mobility. Happened to me twice in the last raid.
Just type /no and you’ll start moving again. Any emote works.
Thanks all. That’s indeed the bug I was concerned with hearing about. Good assessment. I will continue to slug my char DH through wvw.
Thank you.
Given the lack of replies to this when sourced on both reddit and the forums, I’m going to suspect there is actually no truth to this statement and I should have no concerns. lol
I’ve heard talk that guardian weapons have bugs where they behave differently on different races? Notably charr and Norn?
Is this true?
Someone mentioned that my GS2 will not be as effective as someone who plays a human because my guardian is a Char. Seems silly, but I’ve known other bugs to last just as long. :P
I personally rather it do splash damages in a 250 radius or so.
But tbh if they start altering Weapon skills, an item set they have never touched, they’ll have to change other classes weapon abilities too.
They have changed weapon skills before.
Mesmer sceptre, ranger sword, warrior rifle, etc.
I have a friend that is on another “Host” Server (Fort Aspenwood), and we have been talking about getting onto the same server again to play together. The issue is that I am on Sea of Sorrows, which is always full. Both servers seem to never open up, how would people in this kind of situation find a resolution?
Both sea of sorrows and other top high population servers were open this morning. I am on SoS and moved off to play with some friends to TC this morning.
Just try early in AM.
SoloQ is fine. Yes you’ll be matched with scrubs. Find good non scrubs in your match and queue with them.
Engineer are not worthless since the nerf. And those classes are not OP. They are all actually in the same tier’s for the most part.
Uhm.. Function gyro allows for some fairly amazing plays… it’s a very nice elite spec effect.
Plus I love getting questions like “Why do you have a helicopter on your shoulder?” :P
No, just stating that I think condi builds are for lazy, unskilled players.
Much of this is simply not cleansing properly. You say you run out of cleanses, and that is true, but much like vs power builds you don’t immediately blow your immunes and blocks, you should not be blowing your cleanses vs all condis.
Power damage comes in bursts or in sustained damage. Toughness helps deal with some of that. Condi duration traits/runes are similar to toughness. Then there is resistance, which is similar to say, an immune for power damage.
Know the conditions. Watch your stacks. A 3 stack bleed and a single burn won’t likely kill you. A 15 stack bleed with 3 burns and several poisons will, and use your cleanses when appropriate.
It’s no different than fighting a power class and knowing when to block or dodge.
Also, condi attacks are generally all dodgeable. Almost all of them require the skill to hit you first, so you just need to dodge when you see them telegraph it. A macebow warrior starts leaping at you for the primal burst? dodge. He begins to fire his longbow primal burst for scorched earth? interrupt if possible.
I agree they are annoying because we aren’t used to dealing with them, but the counters are fine in game right now.
I get interrupted every time. Some people even interrupt rebound.
You may forget their radius gets bigger also. The first heal is 180 in radius. So if your suggestion is to make the biggest heal in 600 radius then it would make it stronger.
The size isnt the problem, it is the fact that you get a massive heal initially that is impossible to catch with an interrupt
Impossible to catch with an interrupt? What? It’s a long casting ability. It’s fairly easy to interrupt and I am often interrupted playing my ele on that.
I did not rank up from Tiger to Bear in PvP. When the bar progressed it started at Tiger again!
The ranks are not every pvp level.
You will be tiger for quite awhile until you get to the next.
ANET allowed thieves to absolutely eat mesmers for years.. and now it’s happening again.
Staff thieves don’t even have to try to take me 100-0 in two moves and it’s stupid.
Uhm. git gud?
Works fine for me and my zerker warrior. (played premade teams too)
Dem bolas…
#JustHavingFunBeingCarried
It looks like a mostly meta power meta build with the exception of one utility. Hardly an indicative that he’s going to be terrible and cost the game.
I mean kitten, I’ve been playing my ele as fresh air, and I’ve been doing ok. It’s not meta, but i’m advancing.
How are we supposed to do these if this season I keep losing match after match after match? I’m not a pro player by any means, only managed to get to diamond and stalled in previous season, but this season is just bonkers. If this is meant to be fun and balanced then… I don’t know thank you anet I guess.
Balanced means that when you reach your “skill level” league, you will have a roughly 50% win rate. You are not guaranteed to get the backpack…
Spvp in this game is a Big pile of crap. Anet should face it.
1. No balance between classes.
2. MM system making it worse (attachment)
3. The pipe system never will work properly utnil they fix 1 and 2.
Thats why.
But they didnt listen to us so it leads to frustration and players will leave. And it leads even worse team setups and longer queue times until spvp extincts finally. Maybe thats what are they planning.
1. This is reportedly the most balanced season ever. Everything is viable except DH. I lost you after this.
2. MM system is rough, but about right in my mind. I am finding it fine. My fights are actually a challenge now, not a steamroll.
Had a fun moment last night. Was a close game and we were about to lose, was like 490something to our 480something.
Battle for mid is going on, and its contested, at this point we have one node (in the process of being decapped) and the enemy has a node. We should definitely be losing this. We also generally were losing most teamfights.
I’m playing bunker ele, healing our condi warrior who is fighting 1vmultiple behind me. I heal him up, and get focused so I retreat back to the point to try to at least get the cap before match ends. As I’m standing there capping, I see one of the guys the warrior is fighting run over and drop downed at my feet. Literally at my feet. Ok fine. Warrior is still fighting 1vsomething behind me, so I go for the stomp (no stab or invulns up either ).
Get interrupted during the stomp, get back up, start stomping again, and suddenly a wild like 2% health thief appears trying to res the downed player. Switch to water and drop a comet on his head, which also puts him in the downed state in front of me.
Warrior behind me seems to win his 1v1 (no idea where the thief came from) and stomps the guy and I’m left with two downed players who literally dropped dead at my feet. Get both stomps off and win the game.
Was surreal. I’m like “Uhh… thanks?” :P
I’ve played WOW to gladiator for a bunch of seasons, and in vanilla I was a warlord.
WOW PvP in it’s current form is absolute unplayable skilless garbage.
GW2 PvP is so much better, and actually playable and skill based.
I don’t agree with you at all.
Agreed. HWL in Vanilla, And Gladiator in S2 and S3 in BC. GW2 pvp has its faults, but way more fun than pvp in wow was. Unsure how things have changed. Yes, I did enjoy the “slower pace” of the pvp in WoW back then, but I also really enjoy the clutch interrupts and other skill play gw2 requires.
Had this issue sort of myself. Got DC’d last night playing a ranked match. Tried to relog right away, but launcher could not connect (i was able to ping the servers though?).
Finally about 2 minutes later, it connects, i’m back in game, and we’re of course losing now (we were winning beforehand). Game ends, marks me as deserter even though I played for another few minutes in the match.
My party all lost pips, and I had to sit out for 12 minutes because of deserter.
Not cool.
I’m sorry, but nobody will ever take this thread seriously because you cannot effectively communicate your message.
Please try to use full sentences and words.
That hurts the heal bot ele but how does it help the class as a whole? Don’t get me wrong I’m all for changing from heal bot but currently that is our strongest role in pvp. If we don’t have anything to compensate why take ele in pvp
Because healbots make the game boring. The changes still provide you with good healing potential but makes you rely more on active procs instead of automatic ones to heal allies. This will affectively reduce the amount of protection uptime on allies too, hopefully opening the door for more dps builds to be played.
I don’t see why healbots make the game boring for you other than the fact it lets them essentially mitigate what your damage is. A team can still CC a good healbot away, and individually, if you are 1v1’ing a bunker class, you as a damage dealer are not thinking clearly and should be assisting another point.
I completely agree that we need a better set of options other than our sustain, and I don’t justify keeping sustain because “sustain is all we have”, but I am completely FINE with sustain being an option. A person dedicated to mitigating and curing damage, should be able to completely nullify a single person dedicated to causing damage in raw numbers. At that point it comes down to CC and who makes the first mistake.
