Suggestions for future world events.

First, difficulty. I thought world bosses/champions were supposed to scale based on the # of people engaged? Why is it that Jormag and the other dragons are so easy with a group but impossible for me to solo some basic group events? I suppose it’s difficult to have multiple difficulty brackets for 1-100s of people. But I think more challenging out-door “raids” should be added for endgame other than dungeons.

Why not add world event bosses that are actually difficult that drop mats to use in crafting cosmetics? Adjust difficulty not just on hard stats like Diablo3, but perhaps introduce other attack modes. IE a new aoe avoidable attack if over 50 people are present or reflect all projectiles and force you into melee range. Maybe a giant ogre that can smash pillars around you with pieces falling as aoe damage. Hell, even something like a skritt rampage that sends wave after wave after a village and you earn a bounty of silver/crafting mats based on how many the group can kill before being overrun.

What about events that can “branch out” depending on how people react. Like if the Karka invade Lion’s Arch and Caledon at the same time, and a subsequent event continues where the invasion succeeds (difficult to defend both at once). Make it happen maybe twice a day instead of a simple dungeon grind?

I think introducing mats to be used for crafting 80 exotics on some existing DE’s throughout the whole world would be a reasonable alternative to farming dungeons or karma, and give incentive to actually explore the world. For a game to have cosmetic upgrades for endgame, there seems to be very few designs. I’m only interested in 2 cloth sets. So adding in many designs that can be relatively easy to acquire is in itself a sort of grind but much more rewarding. Collect and mix-match to customize looks even.

I feel rather than focusing on dungeons that not only take players AWAY from the gorgeous world (other than Ascalon, imo) and are scripted and boring, ANET should add more to the world that reward players. I haven’t started on Lost Shores due to work, but aside from the bugs seems neat in concept. But the addition of the new dungeon and new tier of gear and infusion stat just buries the whole event for me, along with the 3 ONE TIME events. To level through DE’s without any dungeons or wasting time looking for groups, then suddenly hitting 80 where dungeons seems to jump at me is disheartening.

The implementation of random and world events opens up so many possibilities. Let’s not leave it as a footprint just to fall back on the tired old dungeon grinding!

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Found this thread and decided to read their blog. Here’s a partical copy paste that struck me:

“As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content…….We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items "

The “Edge” in end-game content? To me it sounds like stats increases, or special stats to help clear some dungeon like the Infusion stat, or even both. So to complete FotM you probably need all sets with infusions – guessing just the jewelry available now. Then the next content hits, you need the pants and boots, then the next needs helmet/chest, etc…. Not a gear treadmill? You tell me….

Using a steady staff with fire VI for 10% dmg in fire, and right after switching to earth it does the same damage. Same for water 2. The wiki says it should affect the Adept and Grandmaster traits..

I just tested it. in 30 seconds I flung 21 fireballs, and 22 chain lightnings. So only the cast time is different, but time between activation is pretty much the same. I came up with 20% less dmg per cast as well, so air1 still sucks to me.

portal is not a aoe damage skill. like a mesmer pet is or are to us.

Neither is it ground targetted. But I don’t suppose we should let facts in the way of a good mesmer-hate rant. They never stop arenanet from basing their nerfs on it

Who cares if Mesmers are OP anyway, the only reason half the people in 8v8 play Mesmers and Thieves is because invis spamming and driving people insane with clones are actually fun to do in pvp. They need to concentrate on a less board to tears approach to pvp, it doesn’t matter if all the boring as hell to play classes are perfectly balanced if you have the most boring pvp on earth. Christ can we do something other than Zerg dps.

Cool, let’s leave the OP classes alone because it’s fun for them to roll the others…

Air 1 is only decent against Mesmers’ clones when they’re too far for fire1, but not much else. With 30% crit and 60% you’re pretty much a glass cannon, and 2k is pretty subpar. Only good for chasing someone as it’s the only auto that tracks targets, but still slow. Against single target air is still lacking outside of air2.

Staff damage to me is lacking a little in pve but in pvp it falters. The main problem I think is the reliability of our attacks hitting in the first place.

First, the main problem-speed of our auto attacks. I find it funny the last patch upped the speeds of several classes missiles but completely ignored ours. In pvp and even pve sometimes our auto attacks just don’t hit. I found the “sweet spot” to hit over half my attacks to be within 600 yards. Always see my projectile shoot off to 5000 yards when someone rolls or charges. I had fun dodging the guardians scepter auto attack (before it got buffed in speed) and shiver to imagine more skilled opponents moving erratically to dodge ours, which isn’t hard to do even for ppl running like a chicken in spvp.

Damage wise, fire 1 is the only auto attack that hits decently hard. Water 1 can be changed to heal the enemy and I couldn’t care less in its current state. Air 1 is pathetic unless there are 2 and only 2 targets near u. Earth is equally bad for damage but won’t be so useless if it doesn’t travel like a helium balloon. So out of 4 auto attacks we have 1 decent one, and maybe, just maybe 2.

Then there are the rest of our attacks. Fire 5 is random and risky to cast, with a long cd. You’re lucky to hit a tick on 2 on a moving target unless u slow/immobilize him. That leaves 3 which is a plain burn and staff is mostly about power.
water 2 is the only one to hit decently. Fair enough with the short cd and 3 useful support abilities.
Air 2 does moderate dmg after an excessive channel. Then you’re left with the abysmal auto.
Earth 2 is 1000x more dependable to use as a blast finisher than to actually hit anyone.

If I want to do as much damage as possible to someone in spvp my “normal” rotation is earth 2 then 4 immediately fire 2, fire 3, roll in for the arcane burn, auto about 2×., water 2 then air 2, all the while PRAYING SOME OF THESE HIT. The ONLY skills I can count on is fire 3 air 2 and my rolling burn. I can repeat the rotation burning another cc/slow to deal dmg. Also notice I needed to switch attunements rapidly just to continue using offensive abilities which is why 20+ in arcane feels mandatory even if blasting staff is free. Significant damage also comes from my rolling fire so 30 points is pretty much required.

I tried glass cannon staff in spvp. Thee is still no burst potential at all (see my rotation above) if im unnoticed and left completely untouched but once I’m targeted I go down faster than a thief. So there’s no point. That’s y the only way for staff to kill anyone is to outlast someone and keep casting aoes in hopes they eat one here and there and die/ run away. Also is why 30/30 in water/arcane is necessary to stand a chance.

When our auto attacks are not dependable past 600sh yards, cc skills need to be near melee range to hit (earth 5, air 3), and needing to roll into my enemy for the precious fire aoe dmg/blind for full effect, i find myself playing at similar range as dagger or scepter. Melee obviously isn’t a problem but what if they bust out their ranged weapon? How ironic that all it takes to beat a staff ele handily is to kite us!

So….simple fix is to increase our projectile speed. A LOT. second is to modify our abysmal fire/air/earth traits. Our innate staff support skills make it a careful balance act so anet must add traits that modify Abilities with a cost tacked on. IE Air trait changes air1 to hit one target only but deal 2x damage. Or earth 5 no longer immobilizing but deals non condition damage. I didn’t play staff ele to be other ppls buffing tool. I wanna Mage!

Retaking claw island, when trahearne first commands the 3 orders. Once we start moving out, he randomly comments “this won’t end well” as the army continues marching forward with us still standing behind.

There are other posts but I’m making another. I call out LFM for a dungeon and after 3 times get blocked:

“Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging”

Like this for an hour so far but others say they stay blocked for hours and someone said for an entire day??? 2 party members also got blocked shortly after. This is frustrating especially with no group find or anything…

Nov 15 Patch Mesmer

Mesmers are almost as bad as thieves. Just lucky they require more than 2 button presses but a competent one will slaughter any other class hands down – yes I played it. They are near “perfect” but we’ll see how the next patch plays out…

If it’s a bunker class/build or a competent mesmer, just run.

But really, play your class and spec a lot, learn its strengths and weaknesses, and know the basics of what the other classes do so you know what to expect. IE A warrior with a greatsword? You know his Hundred Blades is the skill to avoid. It’s hard to see what everything’s going on, but you get tidbits on what classes do as you go on..

Why in the world did you buy the silver chests, gold has much better loot and a better chance to drop better items. Also you DO get free tournament tokens from salvaging items from free tournament chests.

I’m not after the loot nor the bags/boosters. Only the tokens. I have enough slivers to make all the gear I want for my current rank. Copper chests are utter trash.

Do you get them by winning free tournaments? I did a few, haven’t won #1, but the chests dont salvage into any. Other than that, spent over 80k glory on silver dolyak chests, and got a whopping 4 tokens… They seem far more rare than slivers. When I started I remember getting a token every few chests or so. I also spent 10-20k on rabbit silver chests when I used to get a lot. I swear they changed the drop rate. Any other ways to farm these tokens?

Criticism on the Defense of Claw Island [Spoilers]

I enjoyed the storyline and dialogue for the most part up until this point when I got the feeling everything in this story got rushed. First, Claw Island was hyped by several NPC’s to be an impenetrable fortress, and Sieran even says when you get there “so many soldiers! etc” but it didn’t look that impressive with only a few small wandering patrols and a thin wall of soldiers manning the cannons. The Vigil Base at Lion’s Arch looked much more fortified.
Then when the big invasion came, everything seemed to be just put in place. It didn’t show the Risen knocking down doors or being catapulted across the walls. It just felt way too static and passive. Lieutenant’s Mera’s slow, steady and calm voice didn’t help matters either. Some ways it could’ve been more effective? Just my ideas: Adding screams and battlecrys during the fight, show groups of LionGaurds rushing from the fort out to fight, have them man the cannons and trebs (Why is it I don’t see anyone using them???), and improve the AI a bit. There was no semblence of any AI. As the fight raged outside at one point, there was a squad in the court leisurely walking around. Why not implement similar AI as the world ‘defend the city’ events? A lot of Risen eventually swarmed and…stood in place like nothing’s happening. All this combined with the silent atmosphere gave the whole struggle none of the urgency and desperation it’s supposed to present, especially since it came for my mentor to throw herself into death.
Maybe the death of Sieran came too suddenly and disappointing and for her to be replaced by Traehorne??! GOD WHY?!!?!
I just hope the rest of the story don’t feel as rushed.
