I’m currently levelling a condition thief. Until lvl 55 my armor was all prec/con damage using caltrops and ive never had a problem.
Now im at 55 ive switched to Carrion and the build works even better
If you want AoE, Ive been levelling a condition thief lately and I feel less squishy than both my Ele and Guardian, and feel more comfortable taking down large groups.
How long till the patch comes live ?
First remark that interests me.
Just started downloading for me (UK)
I’m now level 50 (added a screenshot to show stats) and am wondering how much benefit the Corruption sigil is providing.
I’m wondering if I already have enough condition damage, and would maybe be better using another sigil such as Venom or Restoration, maybe even Bloodlust to up power?

Same just happened to me (Gunnars Hold)
Thanks for the answers, giving me some to think about.
Currently using D/D with Sigils of Corruption and Agony.
When I reach 25 stacks, would it be better to switch out the Corruption dagger to another Agony dagger for increased bleed duration, or to Air or Fire for straight damage (crit chance is currently 22%)
I only found the skill/bug this week and ive jumped from heights that would certainly have killed me and survived.
Been using it on a daily basis since to take shortcuts.
I’ve twice died from being knocked off a cliff by a rabbit doing Bjarni’s heart in Wayfarer foothills
I sell all my mats as crafting has no interest to me, and it more than pays for all my upgrades as I level
I’m only level 44 and I can make that in 2 days just casually leveling by collected all drops and selling them
Level 42 now and loving the build, although i’ve switched to hammer as primary weapon along with a staff.
Getting downed rarely and feel quite strong, i’ve attached a screenshot of where i’m at so far, have I made any obvious errors with the build?
I always keep both on me even if not using one or the other.
GS always does the most damage for me, but Hammer is good against tougher mobs with the added CC.
I always have a GS, Hammer, Staff, Scepter and Focus in my bag depending on what im doing.
I use GS/Hammer too and love it. I sometimes switchout the hammer for a staff or sceptre/focus for range
Thanks for taking the time to give a nice structured answer. Plenty of ideas now to work on, thanks again.
Its for leveling only, no PvP and no WvW until i’ve hit 80.
I tend to play quite aggressively, and usually solo, but would like to be useful to any groups or events I come across.
The utilities were picked as they sounded useful, this is my 1st run at a front line profession so still learning
Armour wise, i’m not really worrying about that until I get much higher in levels
PVE only, Currently only lvl 19 and had been using GW/Sword/ +Torch but recently switched to GS/Hammer which seems just as fun but with more control.
Thoughts/suggestions/problems?
Currently leveling my thief (15 atm) and like the look of this build.
What order would you recommend getting the traits?
Currently only level 13, enjoying using C&D and Backstab.
Think this is the build i’ll aim towards, ultimately using Berserker armor with some toughness/vitality from either runes or trinkets:
Any obvious mistakes or improvements to be made?
I used d/d until i think it was level 54, then switched to a staff build for Bloodtide Coast.
I found staff to be just as effective and more fun.
Thanks for the comments.
Think i’ll stick to 30 in Fire, then need to decide between 20 in Water for Cleansing Water or keep Arcane at 20 for Blasting Staff.
Found i’m not really using the Armor of Earth utility so I think i’ll swap it out for a signet (probably air)
[edit]
After thinking about it think i’ll go 30 in water, switch the utilities and as i’m now only using 1 cantrip drop Soothing Disruption and grab either Shard of Ice or Cleansing Wave.

I leveled by starting in air for the aura, then fire 3 to get in close, spin around and fire 2, fire 4 for the ring followed by arcane blast (utility) then earth 4 for knockdown, arcane shield and earth 5. Most things are dead by now if not air for aura then finish off with air/fire.
Fire 4 followed by the wave and/or earth 4/5 is a blast finisher for area might.
Currently level 56 and have switched to staff from d/d.
Aiming for a strong survivable build, somewhere between glass and bunker.
This is what i’ve come up with, suggestions welcome/appreciated:

Took me a while to find that one too
Forward – W
Strafe Left / Right – Q/E
Jump – Space
Interact – Tab
Skill 1(autofire) – Caps lock
Heal – D
Utilities – R/F/T
Elite – G
F1 bound to shift
F2 bound to A
Select enemy – Mouse forward
Dodge – Mouse back
Swap – Middle Mouse
Might sound wierd, but little finger control Shift, Caps and tab
Thumb lives on jump
Other 3 fingers on movement and jump up to weapon skills as required
Right thumb on mouse dodges and selects nearest mob
Thanks, will try that.
Trying to work out a build to aim for, purely pve play, will rework it in the future if i decide to wvw/pvp
Not too interested in minions/conditions, looking for a more upfront damage build using DS.
Here’s what i’ve come up with, suggestions/tips welcomed.

I found Ele to do more damage, but is more difficult to play.
Mes does less (not much less) damage but is way more fun to play.
Have you thought about Necro?
just taken a guardian to lvl7 with a gs and it was great fun. Tried the same with warrior and it was ‘meh’
Will stick with guardian for now, like the sound of staff for alt weapon.
I’ve currently got a level 50 d/d elementalist, but just dont enjoy all the attunement swapping and how quick you can die after a mistake.
Also got a 35 gs/staff mesmer which is fun.
Tried engineer but just not got into it, necro and ranger are ok but don’t feel right for me.
I want to try one of the heavy classes next, will try both but wondering which is more suited to me from the above, suggestions? (PVE btw)
i tried both and stuck with my elementalist. I struggled at 1st but the attunement swapping just ‘clicked’ around level 25 and now its great fun
Currently level 16 using d/d for solo play, and staff for DE’s. Wondering if I can improve the build and style.
I’ve gone for toughness on all armour with Rune of the Mesmer (power/precision)
Weapons have Sigil of Bloodlust and Fire.
Usual rotation is Water Frost Aura > Fire Breath, Ring > Arcane Wave > Earthquake > Air Shocking Aura, Lightning
When available i’ll also use Arcane Shield > Churning Earth
Currently got 5 points in Earth and 1 in Arcana
I’m roughly following this and it’s working quite well with sb/dd:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/64903-thief-a-basic-guide/
I upgrade all my armour/weapons every 10 levels, plus anything i loot in between (would have last done yours at 20)
