With the Written in Stone trait, when you use signets, such as signet of air with a 30 sec cooldown, it will only work for 20 seconds so you’ll be left with 10 seconds of the passive effect not working.

Likewise, sometimes the passive doesn’t activate at all when you load into a map until you use the signet or something that disables them (Mist Form, Ride the Lightning).

Already done in our all-elementalist challenge: http://www.twitch.tv/awsmcelly/b/407604209 (Shaman @ 1h45m). Honestly he really isn’t difficult, just dodge his agony attack and gg. At higher levels (79) the elementals are the biggest issue because they hit for 4-5k each hit each.

We’ve also done the bomb room using 5 mesmers: just put down a portal, everyone uses Veil and Mass Invisibility and done!

The thing is though: at high enough level anything will one-shot you regardless of PVT/Zerk gear, so running PVT at high levels is pretty pointless. The best strategy to deal with higher levels is to find ways to mitigate as much damage as you possibly can.

Do people really go full zerker in higher fotm? I’m 30+ but I can’t see how I can survive trash with 2100 armor. I’m not talking about guild group where you get perfect combination of classes and skills. I mostly pug and I’m currently running 6 piece knight armor w/ everything else berserker.

We play full beserker on fractals 79 too. Even our guardian is beserker most of the time. If you get hit you take such massive damage from each mob that you’ll die anyway regardless of armour/health. Might as well get beserker and deal damage. Considering the mobs (let alone bosses :| ) have a ridiculous amount of health on 79, might as well speed it up by bringing some damage.

Just never play tanky. Personal skill level and teamplay are far more important than gear and, to a certain extent, build. Even AR is overrated; if you can dodge you should be fine. Offense is the best defense.

I recommend always doing dungeons with lvl 80 chacacters because the higher armour makes it much easier. As people have been farming Citadel of Flame (CoF) like crazy, especially path 1 and 2, you could start there considering how easy they are.

Just make sure that, whoever you decide to group up with, you’re clear about being new to dungeons and that you’re eager to learn. People tend to be impatient and kick quickly if you do stuff wrong, so a preemptive warning helps.

Autotarget

Disable it. Seriously. Auto-targeting has made me rage so much, and it really doesn’t take that long to get used to doing without. Bind a “target closest enemy” (orwhateverit’scalled) button in combination with clicking and you’ll feel much more free as well, no more hitting a random deer while fleeing with ride the lightning!

GW2 is much more CPU intense than it is GPU. If anything you’d be better off upgrading your processor, but that often means you need to replace your motherboard and memory as well.

Recently thought we had tactics that’d work on 50+ Maw, but turns out there’s a constant agony field that keeps hitting We also got to lvl 80 by doing the odd numbers, and high seeing as high level fractals is the only challenge in GW2, I highly recommend it.

I agree with OP completely. The only thing I can call tactics is the boss at the end of the fire fractal and perhaps the one at cliffside, but only at level 79. At lower levels you can just faceroll on your keyboard to kill em. Here you need team tactics to survive, but it still doesn’t have any interesting mechanics enforced by the game design. I really like the idea proposed about the combo fields or having to stand in a certain location. If I think back to GW1, these dungeons/areas had much more of this stuff.

Adding such mechanics would actually increase the difficulty in a fun way. On fractals 79 it’s just that everything kills you in 1 hit, but you basically apply the same tactics as in lower fractals. The new explorable boss on eSouthsun Cove was a nice start, but suddenly some text pops up and explains everything what you should do. That just ruins the whole point of the mechanics; it’s fun to find stuff out. I recall facing the Kanaxai in GW1 the first time, we spent 3 hours trying to figure out how to beat it and it was so exciting when we finally did. I miss this in GW2.

Need help with grawl shaman in fractal 30+

The easiest way I find is to not get the boss out of the bubble right away. Instead, chill him with frozen ground or entangle him, then ball up while hiding behind wall of reflection, sanctuary, and shield of the avenger.

In the meantime, all the elementals will ball up so you can AoE them easily. The reason for this is that the boss won’t attack you but just veeeeeeeeery slowly goes towards a target, which provides you with plenty of time to kill the elementals.

At 70+ the elementals hit for 3-4k each, so you really have to there.

Some general tips:
- If there are no elementals up and the shaman uses his AoE, don’t dodge but WALK out of it: save your dodges for his bow attack.
- Use a potion of elemental slaying
- Keep the shaman in the middle
- Don’t EVER stand in the lava pits, even when they’re not active

You cant build on destructible walls and/or you hit your siege limit.

I think you’re missing the point. Normally you can’t even throw the siege and you get the “cannot place siege here” message right away, but now you can throw but when you actually press F to build it it disappears with and then you get the message. So you lose your blueprint.

We were sieging up our garrison, with a bit of siege there already present, and while we were throwing down more blueprints they disappeared when we tried to build them with the message “cannot place siege weaponry here”. I got the message when trying to build someone else’s blueprints too.

I assume this is a bug? Lost quite a few blueprints because of this. Normally you’d get the message before throwing a print down.

Other skills also don’t display range, should this trait? That’s generally something that comes with being skilled at the game; estimating range. The range isn’t too big indeed but under the right circumstances it’s amazing (in PvP team fights on a point for example). Essentially you’re asking for a buff which it really doesn’t need (I use it myself too so it’s not that I don’t know what I’m talking about ).

You should be using this with Zephyr’s Boon and Elemental Shielding to give it extra stats, it’s stupidly powerful that way.

I don’t know about the prioritization stuff. If it indeed targets NPCs over players that would need a change, but it certainly doesn’t need a buff.

Arrowcarts damage should stay as is for players only, not siege.

This is a good point, actually.

Arrows are meant for hitting flesh. There’s really no reason they should have much effect on solid wood and metal, e.g. every piece of siege in existence.

It’d also make rams and golems viable again now that a single AC can massacre either. Nowadays the only purpose a ram has in taking an objective is if it’s deserted or defended by someone too dumb/unsupplied to build a slaughtercart.

You know what? I actually agree with this. Against seige, arrow carts can be weak. It does make sense. It will also at least make that pot of oil more important now to stop rams and gollems.

GW2, like its predecessor, is a game of rock : paper : scissors. Under ideal circumstances, it’s perfectly balanced. Obviously, it’s not perfectly balanced. However, with regards to arrow carts and their recent buffs, this is a restoration of balance.

It was the previous meta that was broken. Zergs (and their associated rams and golems) dominated everything; there was no rock : paper : scissors balance. Burning oil? What a joke. Any defender who even looked sideways at a burning oil pot was cluster-kittened by a kitten-load of AoE. Arrow carts? LUL. Players would stand in arrow cart AoE with as much concern as if it were a mild rainshower in Springtime.

Now, a zerg rolls up to a gate and tries to drop rams or rush with golems, the counter is arrow carts. The balance has been restored. No longer will zergs rule the meta single-handedly. Nor is it a new imbalance that makes arrow carts dominate a new meta.

Just amazes me how little players bother to think outside the box. OH NOES, MAH ZERGZ IZ BORKED!!! Adapt, learn new strategies, multi-task, think circularly rather than linearly. Can’t get your golems up to the gate or can’t drop your rams? Then build catas and/or trebs and take out the arrow carts in advance.

And, no, the nerf of Swirling Winds as a counter is not an excuse not to try. Coordinate your forces and speed build multiple trebs in several locations. The defenders can’t hit them all at the same time with a counter-treb. They can’t swirly, either, so some of your boulders will get through and destroy their arrow carts if you’re a skilled trebbist. What’s that you say? You don’t know how to use a treb because you’ve been zerging this whole time? Now’s a good time to start practicing.

Hills is your real objective? Then attack garrison with a feint while porting your golems up to the gate to ninja hills. Too many defenders on the map to do either, you say? Fine, pin them down on their borderland map while capturing something of their’s on a different map.

The rock : paper : scissors balance has been restored. Arrow carts beat golems and rams, golems and rams beat trebs and catas (if you can get them inside those siege weapons’ minimum ranges and slow charge ups), trebs and catas beat arrow carts. Of course, creative strategic and tactical thinking beats all.

If you make arrow carts weak against golems and rams or all siege in general, then we just go back to the meta we had prior to the patch. I realize many QQ-ing hard over this change would like to see that happen, but it won’t. The days of zergs spamming rams and auto-attack at gates for guaranteed wins and world experience just came to an end with yesterday’s patch. Get over it.

The problem is that you can easily hold towers with two people now: 2 Superior ACs are enough to get rid of a zerg and their siege. Ramming is not viable anymore and catapulting takes forever. While I agree a change to the mindless bashing is needed, this is definitely not the way to go.

Just thought to mention this perhaps we want to fix this in the next patch.
dredge map in fractal, the room which requires two players to stand on the platform and one to activate the control panel in order to open the gate to enter the next room. i have seen team that skipping this by sending two players climbing up and go around the outside of the upper room and jump into the central room, get on the platform and die on it, while waiting for one player to run around outside the central room and reach behind the control outside the room to allow him to activate the control from side without taking damage or anything.

As if Dredge doesn’t take long enough yet :p

Another one is the cliffside final boss (not sure if this been fixed :p) — after the boss drop its hammer. Players can bug him by group hugging him and jump on him while the hammer guy hit the seal. By bugging him this way, he will drop the hammer again and again.. w/o needing to fight him.

I like fractals n like doing it the non cheaky ways!! :p

This has been fixed (as also shown in the patch notes). If you like doing fractals the “non cheaky ways” I think you’ve never played high level fractals :p

Finished a post-patch run of Fractals 77 and this is what we found:

The Mossman bug did need a fix, but the amount of times he goes into stealth and for how long is waaay too much. At some point he went into stealth for 2 minutes straight, throwing his axe, 1-hitting us and still remaining in stealth. It took quite a while to get him down because of the ridiculous amount of stealth: you can only hit him with random AoE when he’s in stealth. He really needs to stealth less.

Cliffside boss is the hardest boss in Fractals now, at least at higher levels. The ads he spawns all 1 hit-KO you. We managed to pull it off but I’d even prefer Dredge over Cliffside now :/ It took us 45 minutes to beat the boss alone. The boss needs a significant decrease in health to make it even remotely fun.

Hats off to you anet. U can fix ppl bugging the arch driver but you cant fix the bug where the arm seals go crazy. Basically it becomes unbreakable or even after the health bar on it is gone mobs keep spawning. Its something thats kittened up after one of your previous updates so you cant clear that bug but u wanna clear something that has been around for ages. Seriously cant stop laughing at you guys.

Well done.

Even if the final seal is at 0% and it hasn’t broken you still need to hit it once more, that’s why the mobs spawn.

Time for another bump, this is what makes targetting in GW so terrible. Seems like a really easy fix that would make so many people happy. Considering you can’t mark targets if you’re not in a party either, I really don’t see how anyone ever thought having 2 buttons for the same thing, essentially ruining targetting by losing your target every time you move your camera, was a good idea.

Dredge and Cliffside #1 unbalanced

At higher level fractals you really do need a thief to make it doable at the Dredge fractal considering they are all level 83-84 mobs that one-hit-KO you. We just have one guy switch to a thief for that part and switch back. IMO, this is what makes fractals interesting because it actually requires effort. That said, Dredge does take waaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. I like to think we’re a pretty good group as we beat 70+ in about 90 minutes usually, but the Dredge sub-boss takes MORE THAN 35 MINUTES by itself, of which only 5 is killing the actual boss :/

About cliffside: it’s fine imo, it really is a matter of the right tactics. Here’s a run of lvl 71 on cliffside, even a bad one: http://www.twitch.tv/awsmcelly/b/394760086 , it starts @ around 25:00. You don’t need specific classes for this one.

There’s a lot more to it than the size of the zerg, you (or your commander) just doesn’t appear to use any. Try flanking with a group, build siege in the middle of the field to help you out, portal bomb, veil bomb when flanking, turtle with the zerg.
In towers place your siege tactically, use the gates to flank at the right time, sneak behind them with a few people and build siege there.

The lag is always so bad during big ZvZ fights that you even notice it when standing on the other side of the map. I’ve ran into the same issue, an official response would be most welcome. It’s a great disappointment to be at lvl 50 jade maw only to wipe and not being able to continue. If the developers don’t want people to continue, can’t this be done by just not letting us in at all?

About Xaoc: I welcome them. It’s nice to have another organized guild on the server. I spoke to them on TS and they’re really nice people. You can speculate about them leaving all you want, but in the end they’ll be our allies, so stop being so negative. Some revenge for the 40vs10 on our own borders all the time is in place imo, and Xaoc might be the answer to that.

Amazing SMC fight tonight!!! Win or lose, the craziness was epic!

I agree with all except the AoE cap partially; I think it also promotes interesting play and tactics (as siege weapons don’t adhere to this cap), while I agree it does indeed not reward smaller groups.

What I find frustrating as well is that, if you spend an hour trebbing a keep, you don’t get any rewards while someone walking up to the lordroom and standing in the circle for 1 second gets gold reward.

In short: individual players don’t get rewarded enough based on actual contribution to the fight. This also goes in sPvP where you can hold off 2v1 for 5 minutes and not get any rank points.

FSP/UW/FR (thread #2)

In EB there was some pretty heavy lag sometimes, but that’s no surprise when there’s three 30 man zergs fighting :p Just had an amazing time when we lost SM to FR, with UW and FR fighting over it and recapping it later through some quick portal action. I want to see more of this!

my guild was at T2. waiting to start T3 later this week. having a big guild though i must say the experience was very unorganized. “ping wp plz” “dont start with out me!” “why did you start so fast!” “where do we go” “where do we meet” – people actually leaving guild due to frustration. the guild got it done though.

Pls can you tell me if you can do mission only once when it’s unlocked and how long it lasts?

We also had a massive group, but a calm and logical approach seems to have done the trick. The last few seconds were chaos though, same as when we beat it :p You can do the mission as many times as you want at the cost of (I believe) 200 influence and there’s a time limit of 15 minutes for each tier.

How was it from a player perspective? Was it as good as you expected? What did you like/not like?

It was a ton of fun (coming from a mostly non-PvE player) but also pretty stressful tbh. I’m just happy people managed to stay calm with 70 people in one teamspeak channel :p I liked the fact that the NPCs aren’t always in the same location and that some people in the map chat were sometimes able to help us. The rewards, although only possible to get once a week, were pretty nice too with 2 rares (or something exotics) + commendations + money.

It’s just a nice overall experience to be doing it with a guild instead of random people.

Congrats on completing the guild missions. Some questions I would like to ask are:

1.) Are you able to attempt it again immediately if you fail? Since you guys succeeded, how long will it be before you guys can/are allowed to attempt it again?

2.) How tricky are these guys to find? Do you think that bosses from tier 1 bounties are easier?

3.) Any notable fighting mechanics to be aware of?

1: Yes, once unlocked you can repeat it at the cost of 200 influence each time.

2: Pretty tricky sometimes, but we’ve also managed to find some in a matter of seconds. I guess that was just luck though. The bosses from each tier are the same, but the amount of guys you have to find increases per tier (2-4-6).

3) All the bosses are different and some of them can wipe small groups pretty easily. The most notable mechanic was with I believe Sotzz the Scallywag where you couldn’t damage him unless you pulled/pushed him away from his combofield. For the rest, just be careful for massive damage (and confusion) in general.

Good work DiE! Did it give you enough commendation points to open any of the other guild missions or do you have to run it a few more times?

The rewards can only be reaped once a week so we’ll have to wait a week until we can unlock new stuff
