CALL TARGET when not grouped.

Who’s target takes priority? The problem would be something like the Harathi event where you have three champion rockdogs. If you’re lucky and the group can clump them up then you’re golden. If you have to burn them down individually, who will count as the ranking player? Highest level/Commander/Most hours played/first one to hit the button?

This is more indicative of the need for larger open world grouping. Getting all of the players in a certain area into a “raid” where someone can be designated leader and chooses to make decisions like this.

Yeah, i’m not being very creative here.

It’s not a matter of being creative because Anet wants the dailies to be stuff a large percentage of the playing population do naturally or only need go out of their way slightly to complete.

Champion Kill +1
Diving – make it one trick (flip/twist) and you get my +1
X number of combos would be a great one, if it was like dodge/evade and every heart counted toward the total.

Pray to Gods – you’ll get blow back from hard core non-Human players and RPers.

Visit City Lords – This one is a bit more off the beaten path so my suggestion would be to visit your faction lord (though any would do for completion to alleviate programming issues) as a daily and maybe all of them as a monthly.

Other suggestions:
Dailies

  1. Visit 1+ Vistas – can be done easily and quickly even by those that have completed the world map
  2. Sell X number of items to a merchant (Something we all do with Vendor trash anyway)
  3. Consume one consumable (food, oil, etc.) – Yes, this compels behavior that might be outside the norm and possibly even spending coppers they would not have otherwise spent, but it may introduce some players to buffs they didn’t know they had access to
  4. Alter the color of one piece of Armor – This can be immediately changed back but again may introduce dyes to some that have not tried them yet.
  5. Go to the Heart of the Mists – Not trying to cross PVE and PVP with each other, but again shortcutting to LA might not be known to all and can be done from anywhere

I’m drawing a blank on more Monthlies.

“9/10” of the posts here are complaints? It amazes me that out of 48 posts, if 40 are complaints then it must mean that the majority of players feel the same way? A vocal minority does not make a majority. And hyperbole does not make for rational debate.

New suggestion: Dailies Toggle

Open Achievements tab and choose between the new and the old (default to new). Don’t like the new dailies (or the set of six for the day), set your daily achievement to the old standard 5 with no laurel reward. Not getting laurels everyday because you can’t dodge/help others/craft but still getting karma and coins has to be better than not playing at all.

To those that feel this unfairly keeps them from acquiring laurels then please re-examine the unreasonable nature of wanting it both ways. New currency/rewards should mean new methods to acquire said rewards.

Feedback: Class Evolution System

But its not everyone wants to be support.

So your solution is to pigeon hole 20% of character classes into healer roles and 20% into tanking roles. And what happens to the healer/tank class that wants to run DPS? Tell them there’s no place for them in dungeons? What happens to the pure DPS classes waiting for a group? Tell them to queue for hours for the first available tanks and healers?

The trinity only leads to elitism and encourages bad behavior. Quite the opposite that you are attempting to imply. It forces people to play roles they might not otherwise want to play or even be good at because they won’t get to see some content if they don’t.

Anet has made a very smart move in eliminating the trinity and I hope they don’t get lazy and decide to bring it back. All fights/dungeons can be dynamic and challenging without the need to have one person make or break it. If the group wipes, it’s the group’s fault and they should change tactics to keep trying for the win. No more of this nonsense;

Tank – “Why aren’t you healing me?”
Healer – “Why aren’t you keeping the boss off me?”

/ragequit = half hour queue for new healer/tank that may or may not be worth a kitten.

Back on topic – I’ve yet to really see branching classes done well and again it requires pigeon holing the branches into new roles. Baring something as simple as changing armor class and damage/control/support mode I don’t see how or why it would be brought into GW2.

  1. Dodge is not “dodge”, it’s evade. It’s not hard to get by simply running circles around a mob. Try fighting them while holding the strafe right/left key and you’ll get the achievement in no time. Dodge is also an important part of the game’s damage mitigation mechanics and it’s a skill we should all get better at.
  2. Rezing any NPC will work too, AFAIK (correct me if I’m wrong). Find an area where there’s a constant loss of NPC life (virtually any warzone) or better yet camp an event like northeast Harathi Hinterlands for one or two cycles you’ll easily get this one too.

Thus far I really like the variety. I’m looking forward to tonight’s list.

Last night after multiple DCs and server restarts, we ran this event from Forward Camp all the way to finality and that was the most fun I’ve had in weeks. This is definitely my favorite event chain outside of Orr. I have one suggestion for improvement and one wishlist item.

Improvement: Make the splendid chest despawn when the gate respawns and only spawn upon downing the boss. For the last few weeks we’ve had too many people QQing in chat to let the pre-boss event fail because it takes too long to restart and they’d rather “Fail Farm” the event than play the kitten game.

I’ll grant that it seems the patch has alleviated some of this by making the event spawn faster but not allowing access to the reward until doing the work might eliminate the rest of this farming mentality and get people all working together as intended. – Better ‘splendid loot’ would be nice too but that’s already a topic elsewhere.

Besides, if you’re only in it for quick DE turn around, go to Kessex and run the chain down there. This is a fight that requires work, if not tactics – yet another thread… and it should be more than running a zerg circuit.

Wishlist: Alter the way North Pasture and Southforge camps are held and make it less time consuming to fall all the way back to Seraph’s Landing. IMO this chain, from start to finish, is some of the most fun to be had in the game right now. Falling back and starting from the beginning is much more fun and would actually be more efficient for farming XP and Karma if it wasn’t for the 10 (15?) min fail timer on those two camps. Here are a few of my ideas that up the ante a bit if these camps haven’t fallen to the centaur after five+ (?) tries;

  1. Bring in a boss and decrease the fail time (each success decreases the next fail timer)
  2. Impose a two camp minimum
  3. Impose a seraph morale meter (right now they can all die as long as the centaur do too)

I’d love to hear any further suggestions (I realize this isn’t the Suggestions forum but lets have a thread that’s not QQing for a change )

As one must be invited by a ‘resident’ of the server you are entering and there is no open world PVP, I don’t see how anyone would even be able to commit their “bad intentions.” You are actually asking for a complete revamp of the game into a WvW free for all. Not going to happen, thankfully.

Thief Main-Hand Only Skillsets

Cherokeewill.7504

I’ll give my +1 to weapons free offhand. I think there would be some fluff issues behind the skills when it comes to the various armor classes though. Gut punching a guy in plate mail doesn’t really make much sense. Eye gouge, nerve pinch, throat strike, groin punch, etc. might be better. Designers aren’t only limited to hands either. #4 could be a hand strike and #5 could be a kick. As already pointed out though, we wouldn’t want to get too Bruce Lee with it. Thieves should be brawlers.

I should also point out that Mesmers can use dual swords. MESMERS. If anyone is deserving of getting dual swords at this point, it’s a Thief.

In regard to the above, mesmers don’t wield the second sword as an offensive weapon. Skill 4, is a block and skill 5 is a summon. Seems to me the mesmer uses the second sword more as a shield and a focus respectively.

Keeping with the acrobatic thief motif and dual wielding swords, a block would be inappropriate (no self respecting thief is going to tell a boss “Hit me, I dare you”) and another dodge would be OP. It’s hard to think of a skill choice that would fit and yet remain unique.

Sorry OP, this thread has become less about speculation and more about an analysis of the overall theme of the game.

An expansion level change to refocus the game onto Jormag this early would not bode well for the longevity of GW2. Six months after release we are already onto the second of six ED? That’s what, three and a half years at most before the “greatest threat” to Tyria is annihilated? What do we do then?

There are plenty of non-dragon related factions and politics that can easily keep us occupied for years while ED releases are rationed out. Aside from those listed above we also have currently in game the defeat of the Inquest/Separatists, the Treaty between Char and Human and the Sun Coast needs definite improvement. I’m certain we’ve missed many others.

And just because Zhaitan’s dead doesn’t mean we can ignore and huge problem still facing the continent. Orr needs to be cleansed, Arah needs to be rebuilt and the last of Zhaitan’s lieutenants need to be destroyed. The Zhaitan story is still incomplete.

Back to speculation… Considering the press release, I’d like to see a nearly endless stream of refugees walking the road from the Frostgorge Sound all the way to Hoelbrak (or Fireheart Rise to BC). Some of the groups would spawn some DEs to defend them from local threats, help carry loads, find wandering children, etc. Then setup a shanty town in Hoelbrak or BC (or near the Horncall/Nolan Waypoints) where people can go and hear stories that hint at what’s going on. Nothing conclusive, just bits and pieces that you have to cobble together into something resembling a whole.

The one thing I really hope for is that Wayfarer Foothills doesn’t become so full of new content that starting a Norn toon loses some uniqueness or newness. I’d hate for something like this to happen;

NPC – “Good job winning the great Hunt. Maybe you should head south and fight Dragons.”
PC – “But what about all these kids here from the North?”
NPC – “What? No, they’ll get here after you leave and come back. Ignore them.”
PC – “But everyone else isn’t ignoring them.”
NPC -“Run along…”

Too much new content in a starting area can make new players feel a bit like second class citizens and really pull you out of the experience, especially one that’s story driven. All the action seems to be coming from the north, why is my story driving me south? Luckily heart content and DE are disconnected from the story but if this new content is scaled to take into account level 80 gear, the newbies will never keep up with the stuff going on all around them.

I have both high hopes and deep reservations in my anticipation of how Anet pulls this off.

The Future of the Personal Story

wtf happened to our zhaitan?

The “Zhaitan” killed at the end of the PS is actually another construct like the Mouth and Eye; a ruse created by the real Zhaitan to get the Pact to back off so It could rebuild Its power. Orr is still stuffed to the gills with minions and the war rages on so I find it hard to believe Zhaitan’s actually dead. At least that’s how I think it should be treated going forward. Please Anet, a little retcon can be a good thing. Here are my thoughts…

Note – I’ve not completed the slaying of Zhaitan and after watching the video linked above I’m glad not to. That’s almost as uninspired an ending as the finale to ME3.

Start by adding little hints that the Pact is waning and becoming slightly complacent. Rumors of Zhaitan’s death are making the Orders squabble over how to proceed with the rebuilding and even Trehearne is in seclusion in the Orrian cleansing spring and he keeps muttering to himself.

Eventually Trehearne actually succumbs to Zhaitan’s influence (he’s had the most opportunity considering his five year proximity) or allowing for Sylvari immunity, Trehearne is plagued by the lackluster victory as much as we are and the idea that his calling is incomplete is actually straining his sanity. Our character is required to subdue/persuade him into returning to the Mother Tree where it is hinted that Zhaitan’s death has not actually been achieved. (As ED of Undead Magic, shouldn’t a Life based weapon have been the true death for Zhaitan? What’s with Trehearne’s insignificant sword that was SO necessary to acquire? Are those plot points in the final instance?)

Then, just before the next expansion, create a more epic/“realistic” battle to the death with the Elder Dragon Zhaitan and let us feel that our efforts truly meant something. Make this soloable (this is our story; friends are great but should not be required) with all our allies, including Destiny’s Edge, joining us for the final fight along the way. Allow us to act as commander, choosing tactics and sacrifices and otherwise directing the assault. When things go bad, allies are dying, Destiny’s Edge is on the ropes, and it looks as though Zhaitan may actually gain the upperhand, Trehearne finally steps up to be the heroic character he’s implied to be throughout and throws himself into the fray. End it with Trehearne falling and the player having to wield his sword to give the final blow. Trehearne can live or die but give us the satisfaction of killing Zhaitan instead of the feeling that we are a spectator to his death.

With the expansion replace the War for Orr (maybe even make pre-Zhaitan Orr an ‘overflow’ area for new toons to experience the lead up to Zhaitan?) with hearts for rebuilding the various areas, studying Orrian ruins, cleansing the salted earth, removing the residual undead menace, putting to rest the spirits of a once great Kingdom AND add hints of the next great ED threat and how to destroy It. Anet brags about this being a living game. Life evolves so let us experience the fruits of our labors and bring Orr to life… or life to Orr as it may be.

Finally, go back to the personal story of both the starting areas and Orders. Run them in tandem or sequentially but both are truly lacking at this point. There are already a few great suggestions in this thread but I would hope they would be a way to introduce new content in already existing but infrequently visited areas.

Edit: I like MithranArkanere’s idea, a basic trait slot with stuff like -50% fall damage or coughspeedboostcough would work well too.

I second that as well but lets make it cost skill points rather then trait points as the traits are already well restricted. This would have the added balance of slowing new toons down as we learn the mechanics and level the playing field at high levels because everyone will have spent those points along the way.

Maybe it’s a backup system; in case the pale tree ever dies they may possibly be able to develop a fun way to make a new tree.. ;3 That and it makes it easier for my Sylvari to pee.

As the Pale Tree has more interaction with the other species of Tyria, ‘She’ may evolve her children to become reproductive. None of the Sylvari players are “First Born” so it may be possible that the evolution has already begun.

Or Sylvari may gain the ability to reproduce later in life. As it is, none of them have actually been alive long enough to experience adolescence.

vanishing dye possible?

in Suggestions

Cherokeewill.7504

There are two distinct problems with this idea,

1) Certain parts of the armor should never be transparent, we all know what I’m referring to… Enough said

2) Polygon objects are assigned color zones whereby certain polygons of said object are differentiated from the others. Each new color adds to the file size of the object. Anet’s use of these and allowing the current customization options is brilliant. Each dye box in the Hero tab represents one of those zones with the little details added onto whatever color you choose by the use of a bump map. In order to insure that problem #1 is not a problem, all armors would have to be reprogrammed to assign the naughty bits to a special non-transparent zone and then each customization detail to its own zone. Then the transparent dye would also have to turn off the bump map so that the newly transparent areas don’t accidentally look like scales/thread/feathers/etc. when the light hits them just right. And for reflective materials, that property would have to be turned off as well. Now consider that your computer would need to calculate all of this for each avatar that comes into view. Just because that set of polys is transparent, doesn’t mean they aren’t there. So the render engine (the piece of programming that displays the polygon info as and image on your screen) still has to run calculations for those transparent zones and recalculate shadows for each and so on.

As I hope you can see, it’s not just a matter of turning off the horns or whatever other piece of the armor you wish weren’t there. It’s a nice idea but not one that can be overcome without LOTS of man hours dedicated to reissuing all of the old armor.

Katana: I know the game already has 2 sword types but I think that adding a Katana as a different weapon then a basic sword would both make sense and be cool. What makes a Katana different first off is how much stronger and sharper it is then a basic sword. Lets say you slash someone with a sword in the arm, not only are you gashing their arm but you probably also shattered their arm due to the brute force of the swing. When doing the same with a Katana it will generally cut cleanly through. Also a Katana requires a lot more finess due to being mostly a slashing weapon.

Nunchuks: Who can honestly say they don’t wanna make a theif and beat the living crap out of anything they come accross with Nunckuks.

The thing about these two weapons are that they can be used both one and two-handed and the weapon skills could change to reflect that. i.e. Wield a Katana with an off-hand and the skills would be slashing and parrying (offense) while wielding without an off-hand the skills would be more along the lines of hacking and blocking (defense?).

Likewise with the nunchuks one can wield one set as a two-handed weapon (switching between hands but you get the drift. ) and dual wield for an entirely different fighting style. I’d love to see what Anet could do with this.

I realize that the voice actors worked very hard but a simple auto tune function would be nice, even if it only worked on the in-game emotes and announcements and not the cut scenes. It would make it a little easier to pick my Elementalist out of a crowd when I hear “Fire!” but I know I just pressed “Earth!”

Of course if this ever came to pass I’d like to see a one time free choice for existing avatars and then add it into the make over kits in Black Lion.

But not just underwear. Also the hair accessory if your character’s hair has one should be dynamically dyable with your unlocked dyes…

This, definitely! Colors for accessories that looked good at start-up can easily clash later in the game, especially after we unlock new dyes and discover our avatar’s personality. My elementalist looks great in her new blue color scheme but those red hair bows drive me nuts.

As for dying undies; meh. Easily implemented but not a game breaker. Undergarment variety is certainly something for later down the road.

Like I said, I’ve not explored the build but it seems like the viable option may already be there.
